First Thursday. (Photobombing a row of shinier things with a dirty bone stock Lancer.)
Stef S.

This is Cobb's headquarters--a primarily R&D office full of genuinely cool people. They may not work on customers' cars here, but they still have a First Thursday, which is one of the best car nerd meets in town. They're always on the first Thursday of every month, and they're somewhat of an open house/meet-and-greet type event. Best of all, it's a lovely diverse crowd that brings everything from hellaflush to hellafunctional (with more of the latter!). It's not rare to see at least one or two actual race cars out in the parking lot for First Thursday. Me gusta. There's also free food and giveaways as well. If Cobb made anything for my car (their focus is primarily on turbocharged imports) and I felt like being un-lazy and actually modifying it, I'd buy their stuff in a heartbeat. I've been impressed by the way the engineers take feedback not just from what comes in to them, but what's said out on forums and in other venues about bugs that need to be fixed or features people would like to see. I got to drive a friend's Evo X that's had plenty of Cobb mods done to it, and "wheeeeeee." Yeah, that's about all I could say in between giggles. Many of the Cobb guys track and autocross their cars, too, so if you don't meet them at their office, you might meet them at the track. I can say the same about a large number of the guys who show up to their First Thursday nights as well. Best of all, it's a very friendly crowd. If you'd like to play with your car and have questions about driving events or performance mods, this is one of the best places to meet people, get advice, and find fun things to do.

Cobb open house. First Thursday every month.

Can you buy an accessport by walking into their HQ shop in Austin or do you need to go through an authorized dealer or online?

You can definitely walk in to purchase any of our in-stock items (we usually have everything available, always a good idea to call ahead though). Our hours are 9am-6pm Monday through Friday. - Marshall@COBB

Guy said he'd install it since they offer the service for free. Before the new battery the battery was dying on us and was supposed to be replaced long ago. The new one would not start unless he jumped it. Tried to start it again with just the battery, still wouldn't start. We went back in to receive a core refund for our old one. Went back out and we got a jump to go home. Mid backing up the car completely turned off on us. Came back out and gave us a jump. Hooked up the machine and told us we'd need a new alternator. He tried to sell us one inside but I told him our mechanic replaced the part not even 6 months ago and it was under warranty. He asked if I trusted my mechanic and I said yes. We left. He told us we'd have to drive back through small streets with our headlights off since the lights drain the battery so much. We drove it home and it was already dark. Had my mechanic come out and he said someone tampered with the alternator and he showed me, it looked like it had been smashed in and some pieces had been broken off. You could also see greasy fingerprints all around it. He then showed me that the battery was not even properly connected. Said he wouldn't be surprised if the battery gave out a few months later from being put in improperly and driving it that way. He fixed the battery connection and replaced the alternator that was still under warranty for no charge. Never trusting another O'Reillys again. Shady people.

I was on the hunt for parts to complete a fuel line fabrication on my project car. After several stops and time wasted, an employee at a competing store mentioned that North Lamar NAPA is the place to go. So off I went. Admittedly, every time I walked into the other auto parts stores, the employee's looked lost, even prior to my parts inquiry. One employee at a competing store, walked me over to the fuel filter section after I specifically asked for brass fuel line fittings, he had no clue what I was requesting. I guess all he understood was "fuel". Upon walking into this NAPA store, I immediately thought to myself finally, I have found home. This place was spot on. Several parts on display, large stock in the back and upstairs, and the employees looked like they were on their game. After a brief explanation of what I was attempting to fabricate, the employee searched for the fittings and we were able to piece together parts for my fuel line with success. This location has become my go to auto parts store, without fail.

Upon leaving I decided to fix my car issue right there in the lot like so many others do but I realized I didn't have any tools as I needed to disassemble some parts to fix the issue. An employee named William was quick to help me. I mean he literally did everything while I just watched. I was so appreciative of his service. Although the customer service through the phone felt obsolete, the in person service was stellar!
