Very reasonable pricing.. called a day ahead and brought my vehicle in right at opening the next day. Had me out within an hour. Very quick and quality work! No problems so far. Did a muffler delete myself and needed a pipe/ tip. I recommend. They do have a nice selection of tips.

Quality, customer service, and professionalism... Tom and Mike, definitelyy meet those standards.

Tom thank you for allowing me to hear the muffler right for me. It definitely doesn't sound like ur typical Tocoma I've gotten several compliments on it, and it's my pleasure to let them know who's responsible... The price was great and exactly what was said over phone... There was no extra charge for shop talk either Tom is great and definitely knows what he's talking about... You can trust ur vehicle here. Thanks again Tom and Mike.

Waiting area - A small, single-story building with a ramp leading to the entrance, situated in a parking area with three vehicles parked in front: a white sports car, a black pickup truck, and a beige minivan. The background features leafless trees and a partly cloudy sky, indicating a late fall or winter setting. The scene appears to be in a suburban or semi-rural area.

Ask the Community - Muffin Muffler

How much does a smog check cost?

    Do they offer Muffler deletes?

    Yes. Getting one now 😁

Do you do work on lowered cards?

yes we do as long as it goes up high enough to go on our lifts.

How much for a resonator and muffler delete on a Focus ST? 2.5 diameter.

We would have to take a look at the exhaust before we can give you an accurate quote on that one. When can you bring it in so we can have a look at it?

IMO, Frank is the worst "Shady Tree Mechanic" I've dealt with in Austin in 17 years of living here…read more Coming up on two decades, I've owned an average of 3 to 5 "steeds" in my "stable" and need reliable service and repairs on cars from vintage, current models, and everything in between. That all said, I don't often write reviews, but when I do, they're likely a 1 or 5 star review. This is... unfortunately a 1 star. I'd give him a zero if possible. For some context, I'm an IT professional with more than 25 years of experience, as well as a "car guy" since I was was 5 years old, and have wrenched on my own vehicles before I even had a learners' permit. I called Frank on Wednesday March 5. He said he personally would be coming to my home on the following Tuesday morning, which would be March 8th at 10am. I told him exactly what I needed, we sent several texts back and forth and we agreed on labor per hour. As I was providing my own parts, he said there would be no warranties and I agreed on that as well. After I mentioned I'd been here since 2008, he asked for, and I sent him personal opinions about various in-person mechanics in Austin. I sent him a long list of great (and one not so great) mechanics. I then submitted to take time off work to be at home to help out and/or learn about installing a completely new brake system on the following Tuesday. I could _probably_ do this project myself, but I would rather have someone who was certified and had a good reputation to make sure it was successful--and that I wouldn't kill myself due to a brake failure. On the scheduled date of arrival on Tuesday at 8:43AM, Frank text me that his guy "Josue" (instead of Frank) will be arriving an hour late. Fine by me. Shit comes up every once in awhile, no big deal. On Tuesday at 10:21, he sent me a text along with a picture that said "Josue's" truck had broken down (in my opinion, not a good sign of a "good mechanic" having a breakdown) and "bunch of oil", but he would (AGAIN) personally come to help me out ASAP after finishing a job in Georgetown. My spidey scenes started tingling a bit and I suspected Frank or "Josue" might be lying. Mechanics do regularly have a bad reputations, which I don't think is always deserved, but in this case--it most definitely was. As previously mentioned, I am a Senior IT professional. I inspected the meta-data of the photo Frank sent me and found that it had been taken the previous Friday, and not when he was arriving, which was Tuesday. At that point, I KNEW for certain either "Josue" was lying (by proxy) or Frank was jerking me around. I sent him a text with that the photo wasn't taken today. I received no immediate reply. I waited a beat, then called Frank and explained how I knew that story about their truck breaking down was a lie. Frank said "Josue" was not replying to texts, but he would (AGAIN) personally come to help me fix my car as soon as he finished a job in Georgetown. At 1:00 PM, Frank said he was on his way from Georgetown. That's normally a 45 minute drive, even in bad traffic. After waiting over two 2 hours for his arrival, I was fairly concerned that something may have happened, and was not quite pleased in the lack of communication. Again, I had taken the day off to make time for him to arrive early in the morning.I called Frank to find out what was going on. When he picked up, I said "I don't know if you've lied to me once or twice at this point, but I am not interested in your services going forward." Frank said he had just arrived and was, "right outside my house." I asked why it had taken more than 2 hours to arrive instead of reasonable 45 minutes, and Frank replied "Traffic was crazy." I checked Google Maps. Traffic was NOT crazy. At that point, I knew he (or "Josue") had lied to me at least three times at that point, and I politely informed Frank of the facts. I said he had broken my trust and to leave and go away. He insisted that he was right outside my house and could get the job done. He even described the color of my house to convince me. I said "No Frank, you don't understand, you, or your employee have now lied to me more than several times. Please leave. Your services are no longer wanted." He replied, "Okay.", and hung up. I would suggest you look for anyone else other than Frank. He (and/or his associate "Josue") are liars and fundamentally responsible for the "good guy mechanics" having a bad reputation out of the gate, which is quite a shame. My opinion is to avoid doing business with Frank. As a "car guy", I've been swindled before, but you can likely find far better than this business. Please look elsewhere! If this ass has the balls to reply to this review, he'll definitely deny, deny, deny. Look at my review history. I don't tell tall tails. Thanks, Wayne

Luu Auto Repair - My quote for parts way overpriced. He said the RESISTOR was the problem but quoted me an entirely new fan unit beneath that.

But the prices are more than fair considering the quality of the work. To put it in the simplest terms possible: from the moment you sit down to talk to Danny, you just know that you're in good hands. He is just so proficient in every detail of the job; and the actual work his mechanics do bears it out. A true Austin gem.

They are honest...but they are honest about how they are going to overcharge you for work. In this economy, it isn't right. I recently brought my 2019 Buick Encore here for an electrical issue with the cooling fan and relay. The owner was polite and responsive, which I appreciated. The hourly rate of $110 is fair and standard, but what I can't overlook is how the shop calculates time and parts costs. The estimate showed over 2.5 hours of labor for a job that takes about 30-60 minutes to complete. When I asked for clarification, the owner said their pricing comes from a software called PRODEMAND, which sets "national standard" labor times. That may sound official, but it doesn't reflect how long the work actually takes. It's a flat-rate billing system that inflates labor on simpler jobs. In other words, you're paying based on software, not the real effort or time spent on your car. The parts markup was also steep. I was told that I needed a new relay sensor and that the cooling fan ***RESISTOR*** was the problem in my quote notes. But I kept reading and on the list below the notes he quoted me the cost for both a relay sensor fuse (way over the market price) as well as a FULL COOLING FAN/ ASSEMBLY ***way*** over the market price. Not simply a resistor. What? Let me rephrase: A relay sensor/fuse that costs $15-$20 at retail price was quoted to me at $42.82 by this shop, and when I asked for transparency on the "local cost," I never got a clear answer. Likewise, I was told the sole cooling fan resistor part couldn't be replaced separately and that I would have to buy a ***full brand new fan unit*** even though RESISTOR replacements (only) for this model clearly exist. When I asked why? That's a shop policy, he says. I even TRIED TO NEGOTIATE a lower price by offering to BUY THE PARTS MYSELF, but he was unwilling. Here was his response to my questions: "To answer your question, 1. Any part you search online will always be cheaper than the local cost. The price you are quoted is the local cost plus shop mark up. 2. The resistor has failed, and the resistor is connected to the fan motor. We will not be able to use your parts. -Every shop works differently, in regards to replacing parts. For us to do this job we would replace the full fan assembly. We cannot replace the resistor independently. 3. We charge $110 per hour and the calculated rate is based on PRODEMAND which is a national software estimating guide. 4. Replacing only the relay will not fix the problem. You have two separate issues. Thanks," I'm not saying they're dishonest; I believe they follow their own internal system. But customers should know how those estimates are built, especially when money is tight and car repairs are essential for work and daily life. I would search for a different mechanic if I were you. However, If you go here, ask for the PRODEMAND labor hours up front, ask for the part's pre-markup price up front, and confirm whether a part is truly unserviceable or just replaced by policy. The transparency matters...because without asking, you'll pay more than the repair actually costs. I don't like it one bit. You shouldn't either. Good luck.

The technicians did thorough diagnostic work and the repairs, while expensive, were legitimate and necessary. I want to specifically thank Ike and Martin for how they treated me as a customer. Ike was friendly and went out of his way to help by giving me a ride home and later making sure I was able to get the loaner car when it had been made unavailable. Martin was also professional and supportive throughout the process. My main issue was with the service management, specifically Deon. The loaner car option was not brought up when it should have been, and after a frustrating phone call about the situation, Deon immediately called me back to ask if I wanted the loaner. From a customer service perspective, that follow-up was poorly timed and escalated the situation instead of de-escalating it. When a customer is already upset about communication and options not being presented earlier, calling back right away without acknowledging that tension makes things worse, not better. The shop clearly has capable technicians and helpful front-facing staff, but the way the situation was handled at the service management level added unnecessary stress to an already difficult and expensive repair. With better communication and timing from management, this could have been a much better experience Sincerely, Andrew Johnson
