I had one of the worst shopping experiences at CVS on my last visit. I was there early in the morning so it wasn't busy yet. I was there at about 8:40 and I was doing some shopping while waiting for the pharmacy to open at 9am. I had trouble locating an item and asked the cashier up front for help. She was new and wasn't familiar. I asked if there was anyone else available to help. I was then led to a young man who was on his cellphone leaned over the portable AC unit. He was dressed in a dirty white t-shirt and jeans. He was so unprofessional I would never have assumed he worked there. Instead of getting off his phone and helping me find the item he told me to go back to the aisle I had already looked. Eventually, I as able to locate the item on my own but it was locked. I pushed the service button 3 times over a 5 minute time period and didn't get any help. When I went back towards the front, the cashier was occupied. I went back to the same young man and asked him if he had a key and was told by him that only the cashier has it. I waited another 5 minutes and eventually the young man came with the key. I was finally able to get the item I was needing. I purchased the item and then went to wait for the pharmacy to open. The pharmacy opened almost 10 minutes late. The pharmacy staff arrived late and didn't even offer an apology for the inconvenience. The service in this particular store has gone from bad to worse. I plan to change to a different parmacy company all together. I feel the CVS staff at multiple branches could really use some additional training on customer etiquette. read more

Bought $116 worth of Halloween decor. Kept everything except 1 defective $16 item not functioning. They refused to refund the 1 item with a receipt and were cold, unprofessional, apathetic, rude as well as condescending, "well did you try a battery?" ( that line of interrogation). Shopped here 28 years, a downhill slide to literally combative verbally with customers. It's as if they are incensed to be asked a question. Unfortunately, each time I go to CVS in D.C., they can't process my requests. They have excellent flu/covid vaccine service. However, when my veterinarian called in a new order for my dog, they weren't able to fill three of her urgent meds. I'm not sure what the issue was because Safeway had a hard time at first too but ended up processing them. I had to establish myself/dog at a new place (Safeway) because they couldn't get the order from the vet. read more

I wish I could give no stars, one star is too good for this store. I pretty much stopped using this store years ago, staff is surly and rude, it's regularly trashed by smash and grab thieves, pharmacy doesn't believe in customer service at all. Went today to get booster vaccines, against my better judgment, made an online appointment, did everything I was supposed to do, checked in when I got there, only to be told they weren't authorized to give me the vaccines. They said they'd call me when they could give me the shots, I told them don't bother. I'll never go back to this store/pharmacy again. read more

The pharmacy staff does not answer the phone so in order to clear up a CVS computer generated error on the web site a customer has to physically go to the store, wait in line, and then be told there's nothing they can do about the problem since it was generated by the web site over which they have no control. I am now left without a refill for a prescription that I need. The store is regularly trashed by thieves who come in and steal whatever they want. Many ordinary items are under lock and key including deodorant, tooth paste and other essentials and require a customer to call and wait for staff to open the case to obtain a tube of tooth paste. The pharmacy staff turns off their phones and there is no way to reach a pharmacist or staff by phone. I once walked into the store with my phone live on hold with the store and was told that all their phones were working. When I showed the staff the phone that was still calling on hold she sniffed and walked away. The staff is rude and insulting and barely competent. Some do not speak English. I am transferring my prescriptions to the local Safeway since they can't possible be any worse. There are no circumstances under which I would recommend this store. It should be avoided. Amazon Health would be a better alternative as would Safeway or GoodRX. Regrettably I am limited to one star and cannot rate it less which it deserves. read more

I wish you could give zero stars. I'm assuming it is a staffing issue but this location has gotten worse in recent months and they were already pretty bad. I tried calling the pharmacist today and waited on hold for over 2 hours. No one ever picked up the phone. The staff are unprofessional and unhelpful. They take days if not weeks to fill a prescription and are always out of antibiotics used to treat common infections (ex: amoxicillin). This CVS is particularly terrible and should be avoided if at all possible. read more

I recently switched to their CVS because the one on 6th Street SE is so small and often so crowded, especially at the pharmacy. Also, I have been upset with that one because a lot of the staff weren't wearing masks as they should. Meanwhile, this 12th Street CVS is larger, cleaner, with all; staff wearing masks, and the pharmacy staff were wonderfully efficient and friendly. Sadly, this CVS has to deal with a lot of theft from the crazy homeless guys who wander in, so there is significant stress on the staff. From what I can see, CVS has a corporate culture problem. My history with CVS is riddled with difficulties with prescription refills (timeliness issues, in one case they got the prescription wrong); this morning I was in just after the 9:00 opening to pick up a prescription that I had ordered yesterday. The clerk a the counter found it, but when she tried to check it out, the computer was down and I couldn't check it out. Here's where the corporate culture thing comes in. I usually go in in person because if I try to call, I'm typically placed on hold, generally for 45 minutes or more. Today, staff unsuccessfully tried several times to reboot the computer before calling corporate headquarters for assistance. The response from corporate was exactly the same telephone response I usually get as a customer--several prerecorded messages followed by an interminable wait, only to be informed that the entire system was down. In fairness to the local staff, they were apologetic; it was clear this situation was embarrassing to them. I don't have a choice in which pharmacy I can use (my retirement plan has a CVS/Caremark carveout for medication prescriptions, so I'm stuck). But be aware, the problems at this store are not restricted to this store. If local staff can't get the support they need, we can't expect good service from them. July 26th 2023, I Walked in with burned hand and so much pain to get burn relief. I walk directly to its section, and unfortunately it was very complicated and unorganized, I couldn't find it so I went to the pharmacy and asked the lady to show me where can I find it since I had so much pain . She denied to show me where its located and asked me to go to the line since it was seven people there. I explained for her that that I have an emergency and showed her my burned hand, she started to yell on me and call me rude! Actually the manager guy with long hair was also next to her, behind the counter and he didn't care also. I walked to the register and my good luck the guy was nice enough to walk with me to show the product. Unfortunately he neither could find it. He went to pharmacy counter and made the manager to address him where to find it. The burn relief was right by where the lady was standing and she could show it to me just with her finger. Finally after about 20 minutes I was able to put medicine on my burned hand and got calm. This cvs is a business center and the worker on its pharmacy have no human sense. read more

If I could give this pharmacy zero stars, I would. I refilled a prescription by phone a week ago, it was promised to be ready at 3pm. Three days later, they shooed me away because they were closing for lunch . The next day, I came back, they said it would be ready in 15 minutes. I waited 45 minutes and gave up. Today I waited another 45 minutes because it still wasn't filled. Last month, I came in at 9am (opening time, for a different prescription), waited until 9:45 but no one showed up. The cashier said someone was stuck in traffic and they had no idea when they would open. How does this place even stay in business? read more

For the second time CVS 12th St SE failed to properly fill my physician's prescription. Twice my physician sent in a prescription for twice/day. The first time CVS only provided sufficient tabs for 1/day even after the physician corrected the prescription. The latest time, CVS 12th NE failed to record the prescription at all. The store inconveniently locks up a host of products even though the nearby Safeway keeps them readily available. The store is poorly lit and places greater emphasis on candy, cheap foods, and hard good than it does for health related products and prescriptions. The prescription counter closes at lunch time that many customers have available to pick up prescriptions. There is no point for customers or physicians offices to call the pharmacy since the pharmacy not only does not answer the phone but shuts off its phones so they don't hear it ringing. I've called them on it while I was at the pharmacy counter and they rudely told me I was wrong. When I returned, the phone was ringing but no one ever answered it. The staff leaves customers waiting in line for long periods of time while they perform minor ministerial tasks; even though there are two registers only one is in use. Were it possible to give this store less than zero stars I would. Regrettably I am only allowed the minimum one star. The nearby Safeway is far more efficient, better lit, has products not under lock-and-key, friendlier and more competent staff. I will be soon transferring all my prescriptions and health needs either to Safeway or Amazon, both of which are more efficient, provide better service, and are more responsive. read more

This is my go-to pharmacy on Capitol Hill. It's a bit off the main area of Barracks Row, but that means it's far less busy. It's large and there's never a wait in line at the pharmacy or the check-out area. Also, you can usually get parking out front. read more

I came in today with a fever of 101.4 and a kidney infection. I left after almost 1hour with no prescription. My doctor called it in 3 times, pharmacy hung on his staff 2 times, put them on hold 3 times. I was totally ignored as if I didn't exist. I've been using this pharmacy for 23 years and never been treated like today. All new staff act like they don't care. Truest neglect in its worst form. I called corporate office no help either. Was on hold for 55 minutes. Is it time for me to choose another pharmacy? read more

Be ware of Protus Ukeomah, the pharmacist at CVS store 1344. In multiple instances, Protus lacks customer service, is dismissive, and refused to share the required information to fill my prescription. Pharmacists with this nonchalant disposition should not hold positions assisting patients whose medication contributes to their livelihood. read more

I'd give this pharmacy 0 stars if I could. The lightskin woman with the glasses was extremely rude and nonchalant, complaining about having to her job that she applied for. My prescription was sent to this CVS at 1pm YESTERDAY. so there's no reason why at 1pm THE NEXT DAY that my prescription isnt filled. Not to mention the ridiculous closing for 30 minutes, so now I have to be inconvenienced even more because of the stupid policies as if I dont have to be to my job at a certain time. I can honestly say I've never had a problem with this CVS location. You aren't going to find the same selection as the Harry Teeter or Safeway, but that's not its purpose. It is meant to be there for a quick run in, or a stop off on the way home from work for basic necessities, and it does pretty good at that. The location has always been clean, and the staff have always been helpful when I was looking for something in particular. I have not used their pharmacy or photo processing so I can't speak to that, but I definitely appreciate that a pretty much fully-stocked drug store is just a couple of blocks away. read more

I was thinking about how this CVS doesn't have Self-Checkout but the Eastern Market one down the street does. Then I remembered that the one on Bladensburg Road does so I won't go any further. I usually stop here if I have a long long wait at Potomac Ave. or if I need to get pictures from a disposable camera developed. This is something I've done with about 3 cameras and I really liked the retro look of the pictures and the surprise of not knowing how they turned up but at $15.00 I think I'm done with that. I applaud CVS for moving away from tobacco and for being a place where you can get a flu shot or get your pressure checked but this is hyperinflation compared to what my mom used to pay at the lil drop off parking lot kiosk. In defense of CVS, I costs money to do something so obsolete. It's my Streetcar. Other than all that. Everybody that works there is nice and helpful. Especially when they got a long line (no hay Self-Checkout) and I'm being country or being a millennial and dropping off a disposable camera. read more

I WILL NOT fill another prescription or spend a single solitary dollar at CVS again! I returned a call after a message was left about a prescription that would not be covered by my insurance. After speaking to a rude staff member, I was transferred to the pharmacist who was far more disrespectful. After trying to offer a solution, I asked the pharmacist if she could call my doctor to get it changed. The next words out of her mouth were "Like I already said, we will call in the morning..." In the rudest, snappiest tone. I am currently undergoing radiation and am in a considerable amount of pain. I needed this prescription. All she would have had to do was CALL my doctor so the prescription could be adjusted. And that was just beyond her. Past month, my prescriptions have totaled over $16,000. I went in to buy a sympathy card. Either there is a serial killer on the loose in DC, or this store does a terrible job of restocking the shelves. All of the slots were empty, except for "I'm sorry your pet is dead," which wasn't quite right for my needs, and some funny birthday cards that were put in the wrong slots. (It was reassuring when I glanced around the store and saw completely empty coolers in the beverage aisle, and many other bare spots in the store as well. However, I did triple-check to make sure I locked the dead-bolt on the door when I got home.) read more

Bad but not the worst ever. If you need a greeting card, don't come here. If you need cosmetics, forget about it. If you need your prescription filled, they may or may not have it in stock. If you just need to run in quickly, grab your items and head out, won't happen. I still don't understand how lines can be long for a place that is always low on inventory. Despite all of the negatives, the people who work at this location are pretty friendly and make the experience not-so-awful. Their Pharmacy is awful!!! I was a CVS customer for years (in South Carolina) and I thought it would be great to keep the same pharmacy when we moved to DC. With my many bad experiences at this pharmacy, I have stopped going to any CVS pharmacies, and try to avoid the chain entirely. Customer Service is terrible at the pharmacy. I have never met ruder Pharmacy Techs. I have gone many times and it is systemic. Not just one person. Across the board, they are rude and mean to customers. I saw a pharmacy tech literally shut the window down on a customer, 5 minutes before it closed. The guy had to move so he didn't get hit by the window. The worst was: my 2 month old son need a medication for a rash. Day 1: I drop off Rx. They say, come back tomorrow. Day 2: They GIVE ME THE WRONG MEDICATION! I notice it, but they can't find the hard copy I dropped off. They call the Dr. but they can't get it ready until the next day since it is a lotion mixture. Day 3: They forgot to fill it, no one is there who can mix it. They tell me to come back the next day. Day 4: They still haven't mixed it, so the Pharmacist mixes while I wait (the actual mixing takes less than 5 minutes). With each of these days, add at least a 15-30 min wait and technicians and pharmacists who are just plain rude. Plus add three extra days with a sad infant with a rash. I refuse to ever go back. The thing that bothers me is that I am younger, educated, and am willing to advocate for my needs. But many who use that pharmacy are older or not as knowledge about their medications. read more

Since I live nearby and it is a PHARMACY store, I've been coming here for the past 5 years. However, I have had so many miserable experiences at this store with their employees and even customers that I now go to Harris Teeter a block away. 1). About a year ago, they gave me another person's prescription. She had the same last name as me, but a different first name and a different address. I went back and scolded them for giving me another person's medication. They just took it, said nothing, and gave my prescription. I was expecting to file a situation report, speak to a manager, or something. Instead, nothing. I should have complained to CVS HQ when it happened but that was a year ago. 2). One night, their computers froze so I couldn't buy anything. Great.... 3). One time, I lost my CVS extracare card and apparently I didn't give them my phone number so I had to sign up for another one. The customer behind me didn't want to wait while I filled out the form so he volunteered to have me use his Extracare card. I said I wanted my own (collect points). Short fuse. Apparently that pissed him off and he proceeded to call me names. When I left the store, he was out there waiting for me, just staring me down, trying to intimidate me. Holy crap. Piece of work. I guess it didn't help that I didn't shut my mouth and I threw it back at him. Hey, I am from Jersey. 4). There is always a line, especially at the pharmacy. The line is always long because the customers are always fighting with the pharmacist. Sometimes they are legitimate complaints, sometimes the customers are just batsh*t crazy. read more

My favorite pharmacy in the city. The staff is great but two people in particular stand out--- Kisha and the Ethiopian gentleman who used to have braces (his name escapes me). He always has a pleasant and jovial demeanor. Kisha is so kind and patient with the elderly customers and just great at her job overall. The lines can be long but the staff is efficient. The rest of the store could (and should) be MUCH better (always short staffed, crazy long lines) but the pharmacy is top notch. Keep up the great work! read more

There are worse CVS's, but this one wins distinction as the worst new CVS. lines are always long, tons of stories of mixed up prescriptions (not just Rebecca C!), staff is unfriendly and slow. They have an enormous checkout counter, but never more than two people working (with one person blankly staring by the photo section), and always at least 5 people lined up in an aisle full of seasonal junk and crap that's in complete disarray and full of items that have been discarded as people have given up waiting in line. The cashiers never make eye contact or talk to you, which is actually a step up (possibly worth another half star) from the CVS on 7th St SE, where the cashiers are rude and obnoxious. I recently wondered why my downtown CVS seemed so remarkable, and I realized: they have self-checkouts, which enables me to completely avoid interfacing with CVS employees! Well, they had what I wanted and since I had some coupons, I tried to use them but they only accepted two of the three and the sole cashier had a big difficult time with all this. Then a manager appeared to help out as the line was getting long but I got the feeling there's "issues" here. Other than that, we got what we came in for. However, this is a CVS that needs a big update --no self-serve cash machines, the layout seems crazy and it seems like a warehouse with stuff in it. I seriously hate this CVS. The only good thing about his location is that when we decide to sell our house in good ol' Capitol Hill East we will use this as a selling point. "Close to amenities such as CVS!" I can see our glittering home listing now, but I digress. The shelves are often bare and not replenished. They are often times short staffed regarding people manning registers. One time I bought some shampoo that had a sale price on the shelf, but when I went up to the register to pay for it, it wasn't charged the sale price. When I asked the cashier why I didn't get the discount (there clearly was a sale tag on the shelf) they said they hadn't gotten around to updating the prices yet. I don't think that's my problem and they should have accepted the price that was advertised or updated their damn prices on their shelves before the store opened. Avoid at all costs. read more

Horrible experience! Went in to purchase a prepaid debit card as a gift, attempted three times with a cashier whom was very helpful to no avail. The register kept declining the transaction and NO ONE including the manager, Wale (whom seemed uninterested in assisting a customer in need) could provide me with reasoning outside of grabbing another card. Needless to say, I left and went down to the street to the CVS on Penn Ave, where I received better assistance and support!
