This CVS is one of the worst. They don't answer the phone when people are calling and once they do answer you will or placed on hold for hours. It is very disappointing that a CVS is located in an underrepresents neighborhood where there are already multiple disparities and access to food and healthcare services. And when you try to get what you need the services are sub par. They don't have certain medicines, things have to be ordered causing a delay in you taking your medicine. CVS needs to do better with ensuring everyone received the appropriate services no matter what CVS branch you are visiting. read more

The Brookland CVS continues to be understaffed and understocked. They also continue to make errors in a prescription for a maintenance medication. Earlier this year, CVS sent a text message stating that the Rx had been filled. When I went to the pharmacy to pick it up, they told me it was not ready and that they had to order my medication, which would take a week. At this point, I was out of medication. My only recourse was to go miles out of my way to pick up the Rx at a different branch across town. This week, I attempted to refill the same Rx, but the automated systems (both phone and computer) are set to refill the script in September. Someone at CVS keyed in my 30 day supply of medication as a 90-day supply. Again, the Brookland CVS refuses to take any responsibility, even though I picked up the Rx from them. They told me today that I need to go to the CVS across town to correct the error. I called that pharmacy, and left a message for the pharmacist AND called my doctor to ask her to send a new script to the Brookland CVS. This is for a script with multiple refills. This is unacceptable, and although I've complained multiple times, the only recourse I have at the moment is to report the issue here. read more

Inside this CVS is a MinuteClinic that gives TB tests, shots, etc. I scheduled online and the medical professional was ready at the time of my appointment. I didn't have to wait at all! She was very professional and friendly. I was in and out within minutes! Free parking is out front in the large shared lot between Safeway, the library, etc. read more

This CVS is truly a representation of the lack of resources for Wards 7 and 8. The carpets reek of urine, there is often only one cashier available and there are no self checkouts as seen in Wards 1-4. A lot of items are not stocked in the right place, and there are limited quantities of essentials. It's such a shame because it is in a convenient location. read more

On top of me understanding this location, they are understaffed and have me wait in line with no other customers early in the morning. A tech is giving vaccine shots while another is on the phone. This is crazy. One of the two techs said they would help but they just worked two back to back days so she is off doing something else. On top of all this, I have a flight to catch at 10:30 at BWI airport and it's 7:42. This is the worst CVS ever and it's only two customers in line myself and another person and she couldn't help. I have been waiting for someone to answer the phone for more than half an hour. This is absolutely ridiculous.

Just don't go. Stock is low on so many things, smelled like urine last time I was there. Photo machine doesn't work (after I already paid and ordered photos online). They told me to reboot if I wanted to try to get the photo machine to work. (Customer being asked to fix their photo machine???) Got an email 3 months later saying my photos were ready. Wow. Don't ever go to this location (CVS 320 40th Street NE, DC 20019). EVEN IF YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT. Worst ever customer service and dishonest treatment. I live in this neighborhood and this store has a horrible reputation for good reason. I was forced to leave without my pain medication due to their unprofessional pharmacy staff. I left my dentist office and arrived at the pharmacy around 10:30am and placed two perscriptions to be filled. The female staffer told me it would take 20-30 minutes to fill. I said I had to get to work and couldn't wait. I also told her that I could come back later this afternoon to pick it up. The young lady told me my medication would definitely be ready by then. At 3:00pm I go to pick up my perscriptions and am told it will take 25-30 minutes before it was ready. I reminded them of what I was told and demand to speak to a store or district manager. The nasty female tells me it's still going to take about 30 minutes, then she writes down the customer servcie number on a scrap piece of paper, slides it to me and walks off. I go to the front of the store and speak with the manager, he tells me that he would go back to the pharmacy and find out why my perscription wasn't read. He comes back 10 minutes later and tells me it's ready and I can pick it up from the desk. I go to get me perscription and the same nasty piece of work first turns her back to me and asks another staff member if my perscription is ready. The she goes to a shelf and makes a big performance of pretending to look for it. Finally she comes back to the front desk and tells me to wait a moment while she services someone else. The whole point of me coming back hours later was so I wouldn't be late getting back to work. So now I'm back at my desk only one of the two perscriptions (without my pain medication) and charged a different price than was given me this morning. THIS LOCATION NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN!!!!!! I can only speak to the COVID-19 vaccination experience which was very smooth and quick. Apparently this was the first day this location was administering the vaccines, but they were quick and efficient. There was a specific check-in at the front of the store. They walked me back to the pharmacy area where there was a dedicated space to administer the vaccine. That part was done in 2-3 minutes, and then they asked you to wait for 15 minutes before leaving in a row of chairs dedicated to post-vaccine observation. There is a dedicated parking lot. Hopefully it goes this smoothly for dose #2! read more

Pharmacy situation is crazy!!! Not only was the line extremely long, but a lady proceeded to cut in line in front of me (I was next) when her own daughter (probably around 8 yrs old) told her 3 times "someone is ahead of you mommy." She told her daughter to "SHUT UP" and when the pharmacist was ready for next in line, she turned around and started to explain how she had been waiting a long time and she should be next! I didn't even have to go there w/her as the pharmacist pointed at me to come forward because they knew I was next. So just to give you a heads up... This is some of the drama that you may have to deal with coming to this location. Aside from that, you may have to really try hard to keep your balance and not fall, while little kids run circles around you as the line inches along ever so slowly... I must say, if it weren't for the pharmacist stepping in to assist me in the proper order I'd probably have given them one less star, but I do think that deserves some type of props. Also on the up side, it's open 24 hours & has a redbox outside, but those things alone are not enough to really offset the other issues they have. read more

Okay he're the breakdown. Before I moved from Deanwood, this was the closest CVS to us and used this CVS for 18 years. Over the years service has gotten better and worse, however over the past year or two its plummeted severely due to an overwhelmingly amount of people that relies on that pharmacy. Again this is the only CVS in Ward 7 so citizens from Deanwood, Kenilworth, Eastland Gardens, Lincoln Heights, Greenway, Benning Heights, River Terrace, Manning Heights, Marshall Heights, etcc all have to utilize this one, small, and GHETTO CVS because of lack of commercial development in Ward 7 and the rest east of the river for that matter..... read more

I randomly come to this CVS at times..it's not in the best area and a bit rough but it's the only one on this side of town that's 24hrs...I come to this pharmacy for my med needs and tho the lines can be long..they aren't the worst. I've never waited longer than 20 for meds (if waiting), never had an issue with called in meds and if you opt for the txt method, you know exactly when it's ready. I work in healthcare and when people are dealing with pain, loved ones in pain and money you will get plenty of attitude and more. So I understand..I just don't like how all the "inner city" CVS's have to lock up the "brand name" soaps, lotions, detergents and other common needs. Linda the nurse in this office was completely unhelpful. Wasted my time asking completely irrelevant questions about my past and pulled in all my history without my consent. I needed an antibiotic to cure a chest infection I've had for OVER 2.5 weeks. I intentionally avoided going to the doctor thinking it would heal on its own. I have to work and can't keep letting an illness keep me from going Bc doctors and nurses are trying to go "holistic" and avoid prescribing antibiotics. Oh and best part, went to a PCP directly after I left and got the medicine I needed. read more

it's a shame that i live 5 min from this one but i have to the cvs on 20th nw in order to get meds in 20 min or less. you have to go here at 10pm when you think it's not full of people waiting in line for their meds. i usually call 2 dayd in advance cause i know if go during the day the staff is still slow & have time they blame on handling so many seniors but i have been to othercvs stores & they're able to handle a large volume people but this store is full everyday smh. read more
