I thought this location was one of the nicer drug stores in SF. But they lock almost everything up -- including the M&M candies. Ridiculous customer experience that is frustrating and feels like you're in a prison or sterile lab where you can't touch anything and actually shop. I ended up spending way less than I would have because I don't want to ask them to come unlock every time I want candy or toilet paper. Staff was helpful and pharmacy has been good when needed, but what a bizarre and dystopian shopping experience. read more

It's seems like I was trapped in time inside this CVS . Items are locked up aisle by aisle. This is 2024 not 2022 and for what I remembered more items are locked up today. It also seems you have to do your shopping along side an CVS employee or keep pushing their button ( Customer Service Button) since they will have to open every display at your request. I value having freedom to roam but it's seems others take advantage of their FreeDumb(Freedom) and make it more difficult for others . Items like shampoo are locked up. I do enjoy the discounts especially when you get those surprised discounts on the receipts. This is the alternative to going to a Walgreens. You have to shop with patience when you come to this CVS. Worst pharmacy ever. Do yourself a favor and go literally anywhere else. There is always a line, yet somehow they still can't keep anything straight. The customer service is awful--unhelpful, dismissive, and completely disorganized. I went to pick up a prescription that, based on their own communication, should still have been available, only to be told they already returned it to stock. When I pointed out that I still had another day, they shrugged it off and said, "We do it in the morning." Maybe try waiting until the day actually passes before making that call. I'm getting ready to go on a cruise, and wanted to stock in all potential needs, Dramamine, laxative, aspirin, etc. With everything locked up this was going to take awhile. One of the clerks noticed I was working off a list, and stayed with me, walking me to each item. She was friendly and made the collecting fun. And, everything on my list was in stock! Amazing experience. My local CVS just closed, and Bayhill is way out of the way for me, but worth it. The pharmacist is also on my list "favorite people" list. I have a bunch of prescriptions, all with different dates. She was able to juggle them so that every three months I. A get all of them in one trip. Amazing. We'd been trying to do that for awhile! The last two times I was here the place was robbed while I was in line at the pharmacy. One time they just announced it on the loudspeaker "Attention there is a robbery in process" as if they were telling us that there was a 2-for-1 special on cold cream. Now 90% of the merchandise is locked up. How am I supposed to make a guilty pleasure purchase of Toffifay and jelly beans if I have to get the store clerk's permission first to open the glass door? I always come to this cvs because it always in my route. Today I bought a bag of mangos and I was at the self checkout. The machine took long to give me my change and I forgot my mangos there. I got in my car and drove a block before I realized l forgot it.. went back and asked the cashier if she saw it or if anyone turned it in. I still have my receipt from about 3 mins ago and she didn't seem to care. It was my fault I forgot them at the check out but she didn't bother to assist me to even ask any of the other employees if they put it back.. read more

The people that work here are rude and close the store before the posted closing time. I walked up as a worker was locking the doors a couple minutes early. I get it you want to get home. But I've arrived before you close and should be able to get the one product I need from the only drug store in this area within business hours. They literally walked out within 2 minutes of locking the doors. I was at my car and rolled down my window and called out that 'you really should've waited until your posted hours to lock the doors on customers' the lady that locked the door on me flipped me off as a response. The only problem I have is they seem to be out of stock often on the items I'm looking for (sunscreen, hand cream) but I do enjoy shopping at this CvS. With the exception of a particular young man who works there in a zombie mode and not especially warm and fuzzy, the rest of the staff are pretty nice and helpful. The store opens around 0800 but the pharmacy opens 0900. Better to call to confirm the hours. read more

I probably won't go to their "Pharmacy" section for anything again. When one is here for a vaccine or prescription, the customer is the "patient". That means they have a reasonable expectation of privacy as allowed under HIPPA. Even if they are paying for the service, the customer is still the "patient", so while the cashier is instructing the patient to "text" ok on their phone, because CVS has been flagged by banks for potential electronic fraud purchases - #sigh - the cashier should not attempt to take advantage of the patient's distracted state by taking out their phone to hit a button and point the camera side towards patient only to retract and retreat when the patient starts taking or will take notice. For you 20 year old beginning professionals, recording or taking a creep shot of the patient for personal amusement and exploitation or even giving the impression of such action as a form of passive aggressive threat message is a BIG NO NO. All employees in the pharmacy section are regarded as part of the health care process and under law, should follow HIPPA and professionalism accordingly. read more

The pharmacy lacks any professionalism when working with people. I was in line and heard another person remark after an interaction with a clerk "I am going to Walgreens, they know what they are doing" and the clerk made a sneering remark as the person walked away. I didn't think they would be as rude with me as I watched the "manager" ask another clerk to train someone. But, I got the dob wrong and asked if she could look up any other way. Nope! Then she asked if I had insurance for my client and I showed her the two cards I had. She wanted a specific number that was not on the card and I asked her to tell me what the acronym meant. She didn't know but kept loudly asking me to provide it. I told her that yelling the three letters didn't answer my question. I'm one of those people who actually likes the 7 foot long receipt, but I hate how they are always coupons for things I already bought. I got some gripes about this store, mostly the size - it's tiny and the pharmacy area is too small and not private enough. Given that it's why people frequent this store, they should allow a little more space. Despite this, the pharmacists and staff are nice. CVS Pharmacy - Damn girl - Drugstores Near Me - San Francisco, California

Stay away. Not only does CVS provide awful customer service, but their pharmacists either don't know how to interpret basic CDC vaccine guidelines, or else they just make up their own. Last week, my doctor encouraged me to get Dose 2 of the 2024-2025 covid vaccine before an upcoming overseas trip lasting over a month. I scheduled an appointment at CVS for 5 days later. Two hours before the appointment, I received a text telling me the appointment was canceled and also telling me I could schedule a new appointment. If someone is going to cancel your appointment with only 2 hours notice, you would think they would at least have the common courtesy to explain why - but not CVS. So, I called to find out the reason. Of course, CVS never answers their phone, so I had to leave a message. A short time later, CVS called back and told me the cancellation was probably a glitch and I should just come in without an appointment. It took me an hour to walk over there. When I arrived, they told me that according to CDC guidelines I was not eligible for the vaccine because I received Dose 1 of the 2024-2025 covid vaccine 4 months earlier. However, these are the actual covid vaccine guidelines for people over 65 and previously vaccinated before 2024-2025 vaccine, copied directly from from the CDC Website: "2024-2025 Dose 1 (Moderna, Novavax or Pfizer-BioNTech): At least 8 weeks after last dose. 2024-2025 Dose 2 (Moderna, Novavax, or Pfizer-BioNTech): 6 months (minimum interval 2 months) after 2024-2025 Dose 1." The pharmacist insisted that the 2 month (8 week) minimum interval applied only to Dose 1 and that Dose 2 had to be given 6 months after Dose 1. Clearly, that is not what the CDC guidelines say. Do you really want a pharmacist taking care of your health if they don't know the difference between the recommended interval (6 months) and the minimum required interval (2 months)? They wasted my entire morning, but they couldn't care less. They will apologize and then refuse to do anything to resolve the problem. So, I went to the nearest Walgreens pharmacy and with no appointment I received Dose 2 of the 2024-2025 covid vaccine in less than 10 minutes; plus, my insurance paid for it. I know my doctor would not have recommended Dose 2 and my insurance would not have paid for it if the interval didn't meet CDC requirements. Never again will I rely on CVS for any of my healthcare needs. read more

No wonder this place has such bad reviews. I was at self-checkout and my coupons weren't being applied. I ask the attendant for help. She basically came over and said the coupons have been applied. I asked for help understanding how much discount I am getting and she lost it. Started yelling at me asking to prove that the total was incorrect. I said the numbers look out of whack to me and she basically voided the transaction without asking me and told me to start over. I start over and ask her again why the savings don't show up as advertised. She lost it again and voided my second transaction too. I was being very polite throughout but she kept getting angrier. Just read all the reviews after coming for years. Here is the deal: Paul the pharmacist really cares about customers. And they solved the understaffing issue. They may not have a lot of time to chat, but I've had many complex meds and they come through ever time. I use carepass to deliver: sometimes Shipt is a little finicky but it's not the fault of CVS. -1 star for the company just giving up and leaving the plywood front door. I've been short with some newer staff members and later realized they were right and just trying to help, with good advice (use the barcode to pick up.) Yup, I hate lines too. I typically swing by for some take home dinner or lunch or walk to Mollie Stones for a tiny bit of overpriced groceries to get more done in a trip. read more

I had extremely bad customer service when visiting the pharmacy today. I came at 8:56am because i thought the pharmacy opened at 8am which it often does on certain days. I asked a worker if the pharmacy was open and she said they opened at 9am. I said ok and waited. Once they opened I told the older male pharmacist that I just had a prescription sent down and he answers me with "you know we just opened right?" Quite rude, I'm literally sick and need my medicine i don't know what i did to deserve attitude. After i got my prescription I went to look at the hair care isle right next to the pharmacy and i could overhear the pharmacists calling me stupid for not knowing they opened at 9am. Made me really sad so I dropped everything and left. Very unwelcoming people. :/ read more

The one I went to is located 17709inside Target store. 233 Winston Drive SF CA. This CVS is. Nightmare from hell. . Always an issue and always has an excuse for their short comings. Phone never get pickup. You can be on hold for half an hour. Their come back " we are short staff " If you have a closer Walgreen pharmacy, switch it. Save you a lots of stress. I mean come on, it's a drugstore for Pete's sake! I can't speak to other CVS stores but this one is pretty sorry. The floor always seems messy but that's probably due to the type of flooring they used. The place needs a makeover! I'm sure they carry all the usual items but the pharmacy is a MESS! CVS on Portola has gone downhill. I rarely leave reviews, but hope that their management will see this. I've been going there for many, many years. Recently the pharmacy has undergone staff changes, and it's a minimum of a 45 minute wait to pick up a prescription. I have some physical issues and can not wait in line. There is no one to answer the phone to speak to a pharmacist. Brian and Lia were the only people holding it together. Without them, it's fallen apart. Moving my prescriptions to Walgreens. read more

this place is a disaster in every way. they tried to give me a partial refund on some reading glasses that had blurry lenses because i didn't have a legible receipt, because THEY GAVE ME A MESSED UP RECEIPT when i bought them. And this is just one small, recent example. Their system decided to refill prescriptions without any request, then starts calling numerous times a day to come pick them up. At the worst point their system called at least FIFTY TIMES in a day to pick up a prescription. All anybody there could say was to call the main line to discontinue messaging, WHICH I ALREADY HAD DONE a long time ago. read more

Call three different pharmacies. One of them didn't pick up, but this pharmacy picked up and really assist me in getting the medication that I needed delivered to me as well as ask my doctor for other prescriptions that I needed transferred. Overall the pharmacist was very humanistic, kind, and patient. I would recommend this pharmacy over others. read more

Pain. That's what brought me here on a recent Friday evening. Not mine, but my dad's. How bad was it? He asked me to drive him to the UCSF emergency room. Fortunately, he reached his diligent family physician who called in a prescription for this around 8 pm. Having just finished dinner, I quickly threw on a sweatshirt and headed here. Checking their Yelp listing, I confirmed the store's 10 pm close time but later learned that the pharmacy closes at 9 pm. The pharmacist was very kind in having my dad's meds in about 20 minutes. She carefully gave me instructions for my father and efficiently completed my transaction... and with a smile. Oh, did I mention, with a smile. Without me asking the contact my doctors office asking for refills to be added. I'm guessing this is legal but it is horrid business and medical practice. I went to this CVS today @ ~3:50pm to get a STAT Rx filled. While I was waiting, a person w/ a super-rminie dog (NOT a service animal!) allowed it to poop on the carpet. The owner was walking away until I told her to clean up the mess her dog had caused. She said that she hadn't expected this to happen. I told her that dogs are NOT ALLOWED IN STORES THAT SELL FOOD. The pharmacy personnel (who, too, witnessed this gross mess) didn't call to have the carpet sanitized, and the CVS salesperson at the door (checking masks?) had no idea dogs were not allowed. Obviously, this CVS needs some major training on hygiene and the law's requirements for keeping their customers safe! read more

The people who work outside of the pharmacy department are wonderful, but my experience with the pharmacy has been miserable. There have been multiple times when I've been told a prescription will be ready in 10-15 minutes. but it really takes much much longer. Today, I took my daughter to the pediatrician, who entered a prescription into their computer system before 12:30 PM. I phoned the pharmacy repeatedly, and even at 2:30 they had no record of it, saying their systems had been down, and that I needed the prescription to be re-sent. The pediatrician's office is very busy, and it took about an hour for this to happen. I waited and called the pharmacy again and got an automated message that the prescription would be ready after 7 PM. Is it so unreasonable to expect an urgent prescription to be fulfilled within an hour or two or at least not to be totally lost? Unfortunately, my health insurance requires me to use CVS. If you have a choice, go elsewhere. Update: Even after they called me at 5:30 to say the prescription was ready, it wasn't ready when I got there. They told me they don't mix it until someone gets there. I just don't understand how they do business here. read more

Moved to the area six months ago and have received consistently good service at the pharmacy. Today I called in a refill a week early due to me being out of the country next week when the auto-refill is set to occur. Requested meds be ready at 8:00 PM, and to my DELIGHT, I received the ready to pickup text at 8:00 ON THE DOT. Now that's great service. Thanks CVS Portola Pharmacy! The pharmacy at CVS on Portola Drive is not user friendly. Avoid it! Today, I stood in line at the pharmacy "Drop Off" counter for 5 minutes, while the pharmacy technician addressed people standing in the "Consultation" line. He saw me and knew I was there but completely ignored me. I spoke up and asked if he was going to take my prescription. He pointed me to the "Consultation" line without a word. In the past I have found him to be passive aggressive unhelpful and rude. He spent about 5 minutes entering my 3 new prescriptions. Then he talked to the pharmacist who came out and said he refused to fill the prescriptions because it looked like I had a copy of each, not the original!!!!! This was the original my doctor provided. I asked him to contact the doctor to verify them and he gruffly refused. And the pharmacy is frequently out of my prescriptions when called in. Last time, they sent me to the 19th Ave CVS for a pick up as they could not get the prescription in stock! Clearly, the pharmacy is overwhelmed, mismanaged and hostile to customers. *0* isn't an option! I've tolerated being a CVS pharmacy customer at 701 Portola, however, tonight was the breaking point. Customer service is WEAK at best. In the past week, I've talked to 5 people (someone was supposed to followup-HA), none of which have listened to details or they were unable to comprehend what I was saying, including tonight's pharmacist who hung up on me. OK, I yelled at him after a week of frustration trying to have a RX ACCURATELY transferred from mail order to retail. The consequence is that I paid $15 for a 30 day supply when I should have paid $20 for a 90 day supply. Save yourself the frustration and go elsewhere. read more
