This CVS has the worst pharmacy staff. They are unfriendly and rude, and there always seems to be an issue with prescriptions when you go to pick them up. The employees often talk down to customers as well. If you can, choose another place to get your medication. This location was the closest for me, but I've had enough. Where do you go when you are in a pinch? That was me, when I forgot birthday candles and my card. Then, the light bulb went on. I knew there was a CVS about 5 minutes away. This store has a strange layout. It is on a diagonal, but very long. I asked where the cards were and I was directed to the back. They did have a nice selection of cards. But, I will say the prices were high. Then, I asked about candles. They only had fancy gold candles. So, I bought them too. I was happy to get what I needed. Service was great. I love the people that work at this pharmacy. I got a new form of insurance recently and have been having trouble using it to fill my prescription. The pharmacists have been very patient while explaining to me the information I'm missing. Today I was missing a specific number but didn't understand what it was that I needed. Worst pharmacy I've ever used. They are unfriendly and not helpful. They have repeatedly shorted me pills from my prescriptions & when my PCP send over a new prescription to remedy this, they denied it. This has happened more than once, including only giving me half of a prescription for a 30 day supply on a drug that is very likely to induce seizures at worse, and extremely high heart rate and paranoia if not taken as prescribed, among other side effects. I'm transferring my prescriptions ASAP. I've tried speaking with them about the differences between what was filled and what was prescribed and they very rudely told me I was incorrect. My doctor confirmed that I was correct. DO NOT USE Plaza America CVS. I wish I could give it negative stars. read more

Came to this pharmacy just under 5 minutes to closing. You would think this means they are still open... but not the case for us. The pharmacist told us it was closing time. 5:55pm = open 6:00 = closed This may not seem like a big deal to some but when you need medication to get through daily tasks and aren't able to grab it, it can be extremely frustrating to have to deal with a very unavoidable situation like this. Making sure to change our pharmacy, not what I would consider great customer service! read more

Even with changes in pharmacists their ability to stock basic drugs is non-existent. For almost 8 months my families standard rx have been out of stock and take days or weeks to arrive. No explanation is given other than "I ordered it but it didn't come in so maybe it will be here....[fill inday] ". This is no way to run a business. read more

Very dangerous pharmacy. Do not go here. 1) They told me that my mediction does not renew anymore (when in fact it should renew for another year.) 2) On another occasion, their automated phone system says that my medication is available. But in person, they told me to come back in three days. 3) When I told them that it should be ready now, they told me that actually I should come back in 15 days. The supervisor finally corrected this person and I got my mediation. 4) They put my medication in a bag which said "These are chemotherapy drugs" which they are not. SHOCKING. INCOMPETENT. STAY AWAY IF YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT MEDICATION YOU ARE GETTING. read more

Today's experience wasn't bad and I was greeted upon entering the store, but the item I was looking for wasn't available. The store was very empty at the time I was there. The employees were unboxing a lot of new merchandise; as well, as restocking. I've now been on hold for one hour and ten minutes...and counting. I wish I could say this was a one time thing, but it seems to be the norm at this location. I had a flu shot appointment with them last year, got there and they said they had none available and ran out before I ever made the appointment. The customer service is terrible, they never have my medication in stock, and it's nearly impossible to get them on the phone to begin with. Go to the CVS near Safeway/Starbucks or the new CVS across from the Reston metro. This one is not worth your time. read more

Yikes, I had to call the pharmacy about a problem with my prescription and the woman who "helped" me was about as rude as I've ever experienced. I won't rehash the entire conversation/experience, but needless to say customer service is probably not her best skill. I immediately called my doctor and they were able to send my prescription to a different pharmacy and I'll make this my last experience with CVS. read more

It's usually more convenient for me to go to the CVS directly across from my office in Arlington, but I come to this location occasionally. Truly, I don't have an opinion of it either way. Nothing has impressed me, nothing has enraged me. The pharmacy techs do their jobs; I haven't had any issues. I will say that the pharmacy here gets way more packed than the one in Arlington, and I wouldn't recommend going during weekday "after work" hours (5:30-7pm) unless you have to. There might be better pharmacies in Reston, but I always just default to CVS because it's where I've always gone. Habit, subconscious/probably undeserved brand loyalty, etc. read more

Called in to have my prescription transferred from a Safeway. Gave them all the info they needed, was told they'd need 24 hours to process it. Trip 1 (3 days later) - showed up, they didn't find anything in the system about me, gave them the info all over again, and the Safeway number. They told me to come back the next day. Trip 2 - came back the next day, pharmacist admitted to forgetting to call Safeway, did it while I was there and told me she was waiting on fax from them, but since they were about to close told me to come back the next day (not once did she apologize) Trip 3 - came back the next day, she said they were "really busy" and that she didn't have time to follow up with Safeway (and that they didn't get the fax as expected). No apologies, told me to call Safeway and follow up myself (that's their job...) and left empty handed yet again Trip 4 - TBD... going back tomorrow. All of this so that I can get my active prescription switched over... So yea, that's how great my experience has been at this CVS. Go somewhere else if you can. read more

To the pharm tech with the nose stud: I get it. I really do. You hate your job, you hate the after-5 rush crowd, you hate the dumb customers who shoulda-woulda-coulda. But your visible attitude is reprehensible. Your customer service skills are crap, and have driven me back to the Elden CVS with raging finality. Asking you to confirm that my doc called in an Rx I don't want to fill yet shouldn't induce visible eyerolling. The CVS is part of the Plaza America lot, sort of along the right side closer to the business quarter. I only point this out since during green seasons the foliage in the parking lot is positioned strategically to hide shop signs and give unfamiliar shoppers maximum walking experience. Stopped by to drop off my scrip before my eyebrow waxing appointment at the spa at the other end of the strip, said I'd be back in half an hour to pick it up. "Okay, no problem." I come back 40 minutes later and am told it will be another 30 minutes. Thirty minutes of wandering around later, I'm still waiting. What is this, a ploy for impulsive shoppers to buy nonessential essentials? Well it worked but I'm not happy. :P Stocked back up on beauty goods, picked up a new hairbrush, and still had time to mutter angrily. What's up with the aisle listing bread not having bread? Chips and cookies are snacks, don't give me false hope. Dispirited as I was, I couldn't resist $10 wine, ha ha. Worst service I've experienced with a CVS Pharmacy. I've called and most of the times have had to wait a while, just gave up and went to the store. One of my prescriptions should've been filled yesterday (Tuesday). I was there Monday picking up other prescriptions and they told me the other prescription couldn't be filled until Tuesday due to my insurance, fine. I called today (Wednesday) because I hadn't gotten any notifications. The lady had to put me on hold to figure out what the status was and said it'll be ready after 5 today. I only started getting my prescriptions from this location about a month ago. I waited on the phone for someone to pick up many times. One time I decided to drive there and ended up hanging up because I made it to the store before any answer. Maybe they're under-staffed, I don't know, but like I said, compared to the several cvs pharmacies I've dealt with, I've never experienced all of this waiting. Comment on CVS Pharmacy in general.. I've had an ongoing issue that CVS has 2 accounts for my name. I asked them to merge it two or three times, hopefully now the problem is solved but idk. Idk if CVS needs a better system or training for the staff and more staff.. but this issue caused me to find out that 2 of my prescriptions were sitting at my past location for weeks and I had no idea because it was under my other account. I talked to my doctor and a few cvs locations to figure out what was going on. I feel bad I thought my doctor forgot to send in my prescription, but he did.. so frustrating and tiring. I will be changing locations after I get my last order. Maybe even change pharmacies all together, sucks because cvs is so convenient and there's locations nearby everywhere! Just filled my first prescription with this pharmacy. My primary care physcian really screwed up this prescription, even though I provided all of the information to her. The pharmacist recognized the two issues, called them to my attention and also called and spoke to my physician's nurse to get the issues resolved. The pharmacy kept me informed all the way through the process. They also have a great text messaging system that alerts you throughout the process. They let me know when the prescription was ready to be picked up. Super system, makes it so easy. Highly recommend as they go above and beyond and make things right. This adds to my original review, as that was another 5 star review. I'm very happy this CVS is literally right around the corner from me. read more

Literally the rudest pharmacy EVER. I transferred from a different CVS because this one was closer. A few days before my refill was needed, I called to ask what the status was because I hadn't heard anything. I was greeted by an extremely rude attitude. They proceeded to tell me they needed to order it. I need my new medication tomorrow, so I just called again asking the status. They rudely told me that they sent the wrong one. I politely asked if they had any intention on calling to let me know, because if I hadn't called, I would've been out of medicine tomorrow. I was basically told it was my fault and then was hung up on. What pharmacist HANGS UP on a patient!? I now get to drive to a further CVS to pick up my prescription. The best pharmacy I've ever patronized. The wait is usually very manageable and they are very quick to call with any questions, concerns, or problems. And most importantly: They really seem to care about their customers, particularly Grace, who is terrific and a credit to her company. So I think the two issues here need to be separated. Yes, it's a busy pharmacy in an awful, busy location (the Plaza America parking lot is one of the worst in NoVA - nevermind this place being next to a Whole Foods, Starbucks and a gym -- getting in here after work is near IMPOSSIBLE) - but that could be excused if the service inside was good but slow due to the busy nature of the place. The pharmacists themselves are good, but the techs and other people working there just don't seem to care. Every time I have to call in about a prescription, it's like pulling teeth and I'm on hold for 10-15 minutes. Part of this also seems to be due to the clientele. I'm not sure if there's a retirement community nearby, but there always seems to be a couple of old people at the pharmacy counter, and man, do old people love to sit there and chat about their drugs and aches and pains. Don't even try coming in here between 5-7PM on a weekday. If you find parking, you'll be standing in a line almost back to the front registers. Take your prescriptions to someplace like Target down the road or the CVS in Herndon. Yeah, they're both busy and slow too -- but at least they pretend to care. read more

A cashier at CVS, 11670 Plaza America Dr Reston, VA 20170 refused to sell me Tylenol on August 18 at 12:30pm, because I didn't have a CVS card, and that was against the CVS policy to sell an over-the-counter drug to people like me. I called the CVS customer support next Monday, and a nice lady on the phone was flabbergasted. She said she would send my complaint to management, which I believe she did, and someone will call me within 2 business days. Today is Thursday, still waiting... read more

I'm not a fan of CVS usually, so I was pleasantly surprised to find the staff here to be extremely friendly and very competent. While in line, I noticed the pharmacy staff greeted each customer by name and remembered personal details, and I only waited a few minutes each visit. When I came back to change my Rx for a name brand rather than the usual generic -- I hadn't noticed at checkout -- the pharmacist handled my request efficiently and courteously. I had been wary of this place from past experience a few years ago and from seeing the reviews here. But it seems the negative reviews are pretty old -- it's true I wouldn't have complimented this CVS branch a few years ago, when the service was frankly terrible. But having been out of state for a few years, now I barely recognize the place: it's efficient and friendly. I never thought I'd say that about a CVS, but I actually enjoy coming here now. read more

In the horse race between the "big three" drug store chains in Northern VA (CVS, Rite Aid, Walgreens), Rite Aid is the winner - just try finding a Rite Aid near Reston. Walgreens is decent but I've read how poorly they treat their employees. CVS is bottom of the barrel bad. No surprise that their stock is worth the most of the three. They jam as much as they can into their aisles. That is their model - more more more, how do you hate it how do you hate it. Their check out counters are "anything goes," and I've seen my fair share of shouting matches between people who didn't know where the line started, and those at the end of the line (usually halfway down the toys and candy aisle) yelling at the would-be cutter, who simply didn't know where the line started (I HATE European-style check out lines - see Starbucks for more examples). And the staff at this particular CVS - refer to aforementioned bottom of the barrel comment. If only we could go through life without having CVS to gobble up independent drug stores, or take over classic movie houses in Washington DC. The world would be a better place. read more

I didn't realize how harshly criticized pharmacies were until now. It's a pharmacy... they are always busy. Is everyone that hard up for their drugs, no offense. The main pharmacist lady told me, Thank you for coming in. Who says that?! I felt welcomed even through the mess of their rush of disgruntled patients. She was even happy to give out flu shots, laughing and making small talk with an elderly gentleman. Oh yea, and they gave me the correct prescriptions, I thought that was important. Horrible experience at this CVS today at 6:00 pm. I had been in @ 1:00 pm earlier today to purchase a few items, two of which were the exact same lip liners in the same color because they are always out of stock and since I was fortunate to find 2, I purchased both. The cashier was nice but the line was long and he kind of slid my items into the bag so they tumbled off the counter and I assume into the bag. I put the bag directly in my trunk, ran more errands amd got home at 5:30. I emptied the bag on my bed and there was only one lip liner inside. Looked everywhere and I mean everywhere. No lip liner. Checked my receipt, yep, I paid for two. Went all the way back to CVS on what should have been a relaxing Sunday evening before the work week, told them what happened. The clerk who rang me up was gone for the day. Instead the rudest, most insolent young Indian man told me I must have lost it myself. I couldn't have lost it, I said, it never made it into the bag. I paid for it, I came all the way back, I wanted another one since the clerk did not bag the first one. No, come back tomorrow and talk to the manager. Oh, because I have so much time on my hands? Why do you think I'm here NOW? Like most people I work all week. Then call the store, we don't know what happened, we don't know what YOU did - insinuating I was lying? His tone was utterly unprofessional and patronizing. I never call people racist or sexist but this guy had all my instincts going straight in that direction. I am disgusted and furious at the way the customer was blamed for a clerk's mistake. I didn't bag those items, he did. That lip liner could've rolled right onto the floor, under the counter, into the next waiting bag, who knows? And yet this guy had zero care, zero thought to the time, gas cost, effort and cash lost on an item they didn't even send me away with. I never want to see that person's sneering, rude face again. I have been with this pharmacy for more than 6 yrs. I live next to a Giant pharmacy but I go to this CVS because they have been terrific, I never have had to wait, I call in to set the refill and it's there. I get two prescription that ate renewed every November after my yearly physical. This year, a screw up everytime since last November. Each time I am asked do I want to be set up for auto fill, each time I say yes and it has never been done. This time I called yesterday, said it was due to be filled July 1st, today is July 6th do I want it refilled, said yes and put in the info to be picked up today at 11am. It is 12:29pm, my husband gets there, it is not filled. I called and the pharmacist while my husband is there wsiting, she said it was denied, WHAT??? it' a routine yearly scripted that is noted on the bottle. She said yes, it is a mistake I am filling it now. If I could put no stars I would. I am changing pharmacy back to Giant. DO NOT go here, they went from 5 stars to zero. Prices are always too high, even with coupons. At this specific location sales are not always advertised near products. Older gentleman who cashed me out didn't tell me if I paid 1 more cent I could have gotten another item so I basically paid for one when I could've gotten two. Yet again this is a NEGATIVE 1 star. Work has been somewhat slow here and there so on really boring days I run errands and get lost at Starbucks... on this one particular day I decided to go to CVS to pick up a few things I needed for the weekend trip. Like always I get side tracked by shiny things or bright colors. I found myself oogling the new nail polish colors by Orly. I shook one bottle (Buried Treasure) to see it's actual color - because everyone knows that nail polish needs to be shook up. Out of nowhere - literally - a tiny little maybe 18 year old stock girl gets about 4 inches from my face and says in the nastiest attitude "can I help you?" I smile politely (a bit confused too) and say "no thank" she proceeds to tell me that they can't sell nail polish if I use it, EVEN though I hadn't opened the bottle! I put the bottle down out of disgust with her attitude and she grabs it off the shelf and while walking away says "we can't sell this". I felt like I was in the twilight zone. So I went and grabbed my other items..... still in shock. So beware CVS shoppers. There have a little blind troll monitoring the nail polish and making accusations of people USING it. I was so angry at this point but still really liked the color I was trying to look at, so I went back to the aisle and grabbed another bottle and went to pay for my stuff. Unbelievable. I didn't even have the energy to complain to someone at the register about her behavior BUT it definitely was enough for me to never shop at that location again. Every negative review here is spot on -- this is THE worst CVS, period!!! The women who work here are the most uncaring people. I came in with a simple generic prescription and told Clerk #1 that I'd be in the waiting area, which is three dirty chairs to the right of the cash registers. I naively assumed that she would actually remember me. I sat patiently for about 20 minutes waiting for my name to be called. Meanwhile, another customer stood at the cash register and chit chatted with CLERK #2 for a good 10-15 minutes. Of course, the whole time I was being ignored and I got this nagging feeling that they had forgotten about me. I got up and stood in front of the registers, in plain sight. CLERK #2 at this point -- having finished her social time, looked right past me at another male customer who had come in after me, saying "Sir, you've been waiting for awhile ..." I then spoke up and pointed out that I had waiting even longer. She finally acknowledged me and said she had called my name, which was a lie since I had been sitting right there and would have heard my name. Meantime, CLERK #1, who knew I would be waiting, stood nearby and didn't say a word, pretending like she didn't know anything. What scum these people are. To add insult to injury, there was no apology or even a thank you. These two women should be FIRED. Time for CVS to clean house and hire caring people. AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE! read more

This pharmacy is the WORST. As for the store itself I have no complaints, but the pharmacy itself is horrible. I moved to Reston two years ago and made the terrible mistake of choosing to fill my monthly prescriptions here. At least three times I have received an automated phone call that my prescriptions are ready, only to show up within 1-2 days and be told that they were put back on the shelves bc I didn't show up in time. Really?? I wasn't aware I had to show up within five minutes of the phone call. I switched a medication last year, and they STILL keep trying to fill the old one and give it to me. Lines are always ridiculous. Customers always having issues and having to argue with the pharmacy cashiers about them, which holds up the line even more. The old man who works at the cashier is consistently arrogant and rude towards me. At least twice, he has loudly announced the names of the medications I'm buying in front of other customers. Beware of this guy, he's a jerk unless you're a 60+ woman, then hell waste everyone's time sweet talking you. The last straw was today, I called to see if my (supposedly automatically refilled) precriptions were ready for pick up before I went there (they weren't of course.) woman on the phone informs me one of my scripts has no refills. I say can you fill it, and when I get there in 10 min I'll give the new script? She says "no problem." Guess what wasn't filled when I showed up bc they didn't have the new prescription in hand? Seriously, go elsewhere. I am DONE with these idiots! read more

I want the guy or gal who know their job and take time to make sure the medicine I get is right and that I understand how it is used so it doesn't kill me.
