Pharmacists were so much more friendly and helpful compared to the store at the Irving Park Target.

With the exception of the Vietnamese pharmacist this is the absolute worst Walgreens I have ever been to. I placed my order on the Live Well AP for 2 meds on 05/20/24. I went in to pick up my order after being told they were ready. So I went in and what a surprise they weren't there. When I arrived they told me they had to special order my one med so why did they tell me it was ready. The other med I paid $40 for 90 doses @ the hospital pharmacy. Walgreens wanted $324 for 30 doses. I DONT THINK SO. NO EFFIN WAY JOSE. This one blonde pharmacy assistant was getting very snotty & bitchy. NEVER AGAIN. I'm so done and out of this Walgreens. I called my doctor a few days ago to get me scripts sent back to the other pharmacy. The nurse told me they had lots of problems with/this pharmacy too. It took me 11 days to get a med that ran out on 05/20/24. Theres absolutely no excuse for this

Service has gone completely downhill at this pharmacy ever since Pharmacist Patel left. I am considering trying another pharmacy especially if I have continuing difficulty getting prescriptions in a timely manner.

They share a parking lot with Starbucks so that's something to consider as well. The store itself is what you'd expect from CVS, spread out in a logical manner and the aisles are always stocked. Here is what happened: Jacob says hello, and I say hello back and he immediately starts ringing up my items. This interaction occurred while he was scanning and bagging the items. Me: "Hello, I need to buy these using tax exempt status please." Jacob: "We don't do that here." Me: "Tax exemption? ... yes, you do." Jacob: "NO, we don't. I've never heard of that." Me: "Ok, let me speak to the manager please." Jacob: "I am the manager." Me: "Then you should know how to do tax exemption." *Jacob has finished ringing me up, and goes to the payment screen, tells me the total and I respond, "did you take the tax off?" He swings the screen and points that there is no option for him to do that and says: "That sounds like an IRS PROBLEM for you." Me: "I'm sorry? You mean for the NPO I work for that does hundreds of thousands of dollars of transactions per year? That it would be an IRS issue FOR US because YOU don't know how to do it?" Jacob: "I've never done it before." Me: "So because you've never done it before, means it doesn't happen? Ok. Cool. Just ring me up, I'll deal with it on my end." Jacob: "I'm sorry but it's NOT something we do." Me, exhausted and still doing my job at 6pm on Friday night, working since 7am, experiencing the worst customer service I've had in years: Me: "No, it's that YOU don't know how to do it." I pay for my items using my NPO card. I will now have to go through many hoops to fix his ignorance. I also had some personal items to buy, so I used self-check out as I can just use my own debit card. Jacob is on the phone, sees me and waves me over. I go back to his POS, and he doesn't say a word to me, but speaks to the person on the phone, but I didn't know if he was talking to me or the person on the phone, so I say, "Are you speaking to me?" Jacob, points to the phone and looks at me like I am interrupting HIM. I walk away because I am a middle-aged white woman and I tend to only "Karen" out to protect other people, but this guy is pushing it. I go back to self-checkout, and buy my *personal* non-tax exempt purchases, because I know how to do my job. Jacob, from the counter, about 15 feet away: "HEY! I am on the phone, I called and they told me how to do it!" I'm exhausted and I can't. Me: "GREAT. I'm so glad you are learning your job on my time. Glad you are doing it now, please don't treat the next person the way you treated me, JACOB." I wanted him to know I knew his name, and yes, I e-mailed corporate. I do not want Jacob to be reprimanded for his ignorance. I would like to know that when a customer approaches him and the rest of the staff with something they are not familiar with, to not treat the customer like a complete idiot. I worked (and still do, essentially) in client services, so I know how it is to work with the public/clients. I just hope that the managers and the associates at CVS stores learn how to do tax exempt, and not treat customers in this manner. I am giving one star to get this noticed, but I also want to add that the pharmacy techs at this location are so kind and very fast. They do their job incredibly well. Also, any associate I've interacted with on the floor is also very nice and everyone is always working to make the store look and feel welcoming.

For pharmacy only: I have NOT signed up for auto refill. Yet…read morethey still refill. I have called and they check. Yes, I am not signed up for auto refill. This time I get a notice that they are auto refilling my prescription. They are refilling it for 21 pills rather than 90 as usual. Once again I call to find out what is going on. I am told that I am on "Save a trip" plan. That way all of your prescriptions align so you only have to come in once rather than a number of times for all of them. I explained that I did not sign up for save a trip plan and I did not want the save a trip plan. So to "save a trip" I have to come in 5 times for that one prescription. Why would Walgreens make it that inconvenient for the customer. I understand that some of this may be corporate. Problem is Walgreens makes it so tough to contact them for complaints. They have contact me somewhere on Walgreens website. When it is finally found it loops you all over never getting done what you need to. Shame on you Walgreens. Charles R. Walgreens would be shamed by your lack of concern for customers.

So, I decided to do the whole 6 AM online Walgreens stalking for appointments. I was able to rock two appointments for my parents, one right after the other, and was able to do the same for their second appointments. They walked in, presented their already filled out paperwork, and were in and out before their scheduled appointments. There were no crazy lines and no overbooked appointments. They raved about the politeness of the staff, how the pharmacy ran like a well-oiled machine, and the painless shots. Following their rave reviews I also booked my vaccine appointments here, and everything they said was true. Staff were even super appreciative that I previously filled out my paperwork (which you need to do, people - they are rocking all these vaccine appointments on top of their already busy schedules!). They've also kept us updated on booster info as it comes out. If you're looking for a seamless, smooth vaccine experience, go here!

Though I'm in Park Ridge, they're near enough that I decided I wanted to give them a try and I like that they're an independent pharmacy. When I gave them a call, I think it was the owner herself that answered (though don't quote me on that). She said that they could do all the transfer stuff to get my prescriptions from Walgreens, and she confirmed that they took my insurance before going too far into the transfer info so that we'd be on the same page. She said that they'd be able to fill my prescription within a few hours once my insurance confirmed it was time to refill, and that was great since there are times I've had to wait a day or more to get it from Walgreens even though I think it's a fairly standard prescription. Then the thing that really surprised me is when she asked if I wanted it to be delivered--and then when I asked the price she said it was free. Another thing Walgreens has done away with in the last year or two is free delivery, so another point in the Five Star Pharmacy. They sent me a link to make the payment, so it was super easy. It was somewhat more expensive than what I paid at Walgreens, but I also don't know if the price of the medicine had increased a bit in the last few months. At any rate it wasn't so much higher that I wouldn't pay it for the quality of service an dot support an independent, local business (and pharmacies are particularly hard to find in the independent variety anymore). Once I made the payment, my prescription came within the next day (it may actually have been a few hours but I just can't recall when I made the payment). I was very pleased with the help, quick response/delivery and follow through. They are testing out a new type of prescription bottle in an effort toward sustainability and that is fantastic. Minor annoyance that the inside has some of the plastic folded in and because of that it makes it nearly impossible for me to just tip out a pill onto my hand since it gets stuck, but obviously not something I'd stop using them over even if they decided to switch to these permanently instead of the standard prescription bottle. I highly recommend them and really suggest that it's worth your while if you want to support a small, independent, women-owned business.
