I'm not just coming in for the same old cut every time--I feel comfortable enough to let him do whatever he thinks will work best, whether it's a seasonal update or just something new. He's got a great eye, and I always leave looking clean and confident. The shop itself is in a super convenient location right off Washington Ave, with a solid-sized parking lot (rare in this area!). It's also right next to Catalina Coffee and Dark Horse Tavern, so whether you need a quick pick-me-up or a drink before or after your cut, it's all right there. Cutthroat even offers a complimentary drink before your service, which is a nice touch--even though I'm usually rolling in last-minute and don't take full advantage. Been coming here for years and always use the same barber, who is fantastic at what he does and very personable but also understanding on the occasions that I'm not feeling as chatty. As others have mentioned, they are pretty rigid when it comes to tardiness so....don't be late. Just as an adult and as a general rule, don't be late. Leave early and allow for unexpected delays to arise, this is Houston after all. If you're 15 minutes early, you're on time. If you're on time, you're late. They offer free beverages to enjoy while you wait for your appointment to begin, these vary from local beer to whiskey. If you're interested, you may need to request it, not all of the receptionists proactively offer but it is included. Not a bad offering and is appreciated as these aren't the cheapest services you'll find, but they're in-line with other moderately upscale men's barbershops ($40 beard trim etc) and my experiences have always proven worth it. read more

My only qualm was I wasn't offered a drink while I was waiting which is advertised, but I be looking young as hell so it's not even an issue. Adele was so fabulously herself and allowed me the opportunity to tell her my thoughts on what I wanted to do while allowing her some free range. Good haircut, can't complain. Was hoping to get more haircuts done there but due to my experience today, I will no longer go there. For the estimated ~$50 per session (decent haircut and liked the guy so meh) I have been paying for the past 2-3 sessions the customer service could have been better. What happened? I took off time from work for my 3rd appointment at 12:30pm. I arrived on time on my previous appointments. Today, I was already on the road (driving for 30 minutes already) when noticed per GPS my ETA was going to be 12:37 (7 minutes late). I call 10 minutes BEFORE my appointment to notify: "Hey, letting you k now I'm on my way but I'll be arriving 5-10minutes late" Their answer: I was read the 10 minute policy something around that after the appointment time , it's up to the barber to decide and asked to Re-Schedule (probably they'll clarify with nicer words what the policy is about). I clarified, I could arrive within the 10 minute policy because my ETA was only 7 minutes. STILL, I was asked to still re-schedule. Yup, at that point, the lack of flexibility with that 3 minute difference made me realize they are only doing it because they have your money already upfront and the whole "friendliness" shown in previous appointments is crap. They'll still charge me the $50 of today but happy I won't be contributing anymore of my money in future visits. 2 points for haircut 0 points for service 1 point for the beer they give you -1 point for the costs read more

Cutthroat located at Skytower in Dubai Marina is a new (12 weeks old) Barbers shop for the Group. The shop, like their work, is well styled and it's a comfortable place to spend a little time on yourself. Their offerings for male grooming are extensive. I was there for a haircut and was warmly welcomed by Owen with a coffee of excellent quality and some easy Irish banter. He is very competent and clearly a master of his profession. I made an appointment for 11:00am. I called at 11:05am to let them know I would be 15 minutes late for 11:15am arrival. They said it was too late and that the latest I could come in was 11:10am. Then the receptionist told me I would most likely be charged the full amount for a haircut but they said I wouldn't be allowed to come in because I was too late? I understand having to pay a late fee or having to reschedule and paying for the time but wouldn't I still deserve the remainder of the timeslot to get my hair cut since I paid for that time? Terrible customer service. Most haircuts are 45min-1 hour long and she said they only reserve 30 minute slots for haircuts. Lies. Anyways, the receptionist said I could come back another but that I'd be charged for 2 haircuts and at this point I said no. Don't use their service. Not worth the headache if you're 10 minutes late to an appointment and even give them a courtesy call at the 5 minute mark. P.s. she called me back and said they would be charging me. Came in for a simple trim and taper...got a terrible cut and paid extra for it, this was truly disappointing I expected way more for something that cost me about $45-47 before tip. I requested a simple trim not for a majority of my hair to be botched and as for my taper it wasn't even blended properly which is disappointing you'd expect a lead barber would be able to blend. Have been in the hunt for my go-to barber in Houston and tried this place out. I'm sure others have had a good experience here, but I can't say the same. The shop itself is nice and has a good feel to it. However, for the $37 plus tip, I expected a far better cut and service than I received. They have a strict cancellation and arrival time policy on their website, but it apparently doesn't work both ways. When I arrived two minutes prior to my appointment, I was barely addressed and then waited almost 10 minutes after my appointment time to be sat. The barber, while friendly, seemed rushed throughout and within 15 minutes, I was being shown the back of my head and the cut was complete. The cut is uneven and it is definitely something I could have received for half the price with better quality at a chain shop. After one day my girlfriend noticed just how much hair was left on one side versus the other, and how ridiculously high the neck line is. Moreover, the barber failed to blow dry all of the hair off my face or comb it so that it at least looked clean walking out. I do not normally complain, so I simply paid and immediately decided to never return. Ended up needing to go somewhere else three days later to fix the awful haircut I received here. Seems like a place that probably treats its regulars better, but considering the cost, the service/experience was horrendous. Definitely will not return. read more

I have curly hair. I am not a hair stylist. At other places I tried in Houston, the stylist was always asking me what I wanted, specifically. Like, I don't know, I'm not the expert here... I can't tell you how to execute it. My wife was sick of me coming home with sub-par cuts, so she put in some research time on Yelp / Instagram and found Cutthroat for me. Specifically, I went to Danny. I gave him a general idea of what I was looking for, and told him that I'd seen his work on Instagram so I trusted his professional judgment. He was happy to take it from there, and gave me without a doubt the best cut I've ever had. I've been getting cuts from him for about a year and a half now. Apparently there are several others like me, because he told me a ton of guys with curly hair have been seeking him out. When Danny has been unavailable (mostly due to me making a last minute appointment), he's recommended I see Aidee. She's stepped in and done a great job as well. read more

Cutthroat is exactly what you would expect from a high end barbershop. Regular haircuts are at the high end of the spectrum ($35 plus tip) but there is real quality behind the cut. The place is always busy and reservations are a must (usually book 1-2 weeks in advance). Every barber in here appears busy and to do excellent work so you couldn't go wrong. You'll see all kinds of haircuts going on from pretty standard ones to cuts that require multiple visits and months to complete. If you want that super complicated/special cut or just want to step up your quality of life, this is the place. I come for a pretty standard cut, but I think the work here is superior to other cheaper places and I'm willing to pay a little more for it. The environment here is better than the 19th street location. The room is brighter and the chairs are facing each other rather than a single line. Stopped in on a Friday afternoon recently. First time hitting Cutthroat but I already knew the aesthetic of the shop & wanted to solidify that. Sat down in Ryan's chair. Extremely professional & cool gent. I was very pleased with my initial experience & enjoyed everything about it. He offered me a cold Modelo while I sat back, exactly what I needed after a long work week. Met a few of the other guys as I gendered upon this timeless & classic shop. It's original in a way that it stands alone with their own style & vibe. Nobody around is really bringing this type of flavor with the barber services. I loved the wood grain fixtures & Americana vintage vibe. Pricier than most places but you spend more at a bar in mid town in a single outing. Spending a fine amount on my dome is perfectly fine by me. I like keeping up with my fade so thumbs up to these guys. I've now found my new barber shop. read more

This place really deserves 5 stars, but hair was everywhere and that drives me bonkers. After being there for 45 minutes a barber finally swept up the side we were on. The vibe is laid-back and chill, almost hipster. Completely unpretentious despite the $35 price tag. I'm pretty sure I saw some deer antlers. On to the good. Aidee is awesome and gave my hubs the best haircut I have ever seen on him. He had no idea what is 'in' so he left Aidee and I to our devices. We came up with a fade that did not show the scalp and a side part. He looks dashing, if I do say so myself. The place is a real "Guys place", the seats are vintage, and the service is great. I was immediately seated at Thomas' chair and asked if I would like a mans drink. Been coming here since last year. Great group of people work here and they have created a super chill atmosphere to get your haircut. They all are very skilled in barber techniques, care about hair/beard styling, and are so willing to make your hair look exactly how you want it. Always great music too. It's so bad that I didn't even get a haircut because well.....they had to cancel my apt less than a day before because Brent made a mistake with the apts. I had high hopes that I would see an awesome barber with several years of experience since I had to book my original apt over 3 weeks ago. Instead I was asked to either reschedule (3weeks later), get a cut with someone I didn't want or inconvenience myself/work to get in with another barber whom I still didn't want. Completely unprofessional and disrespectful (canceling my apt via text). Oh and Brent did nothing to render the situation, I had to email and make phone calls myself just to find all this out. I do not recommend this place. Response to management. Yes Brandy, you asked me to try and come in at 3 pm on a Friday where I explained to you that I could not leave work to ACCOMMODATE your schedule. I replied with 3 days and several times that worked for me and was told you couldn't meet any of those cause you had prior commitments and clients. To which I replied with "so you are unwilling to rearrange your schedule but expect me to? How is that fair to me?" and if I remember correctly you agreed with my statements. Lastly, we want to talk about "rude"???? How about getting told that your apt was cancelled less than 24 hours (knowing your staff is typically booked 3 weeks in advanced) and the best you could do is work me in with your Walk in person or take a 3pm on a Friday or reschedule for 3 weeks later. Ya, im going to be upset and yes, im going to tell people to figure it the Ef out because I booked my apt the correct and right way. Yall/Brent failed to be detailed and customer oriented. As I told you in our exchanged, I don't wish failure on anyone, but I hope my reviews push others to STAY AWAY FROM CUTTHROAT. Many friends of mine had recommended me to visit Cutthroat and I had no idea that it was right next door to Catalina Coffee. One day as I was fueling up on espresso I figured I'd walk into Cutthroat for good old fashioned men's cut. Welp, that didn't happen! They were booked solid for the day so I set up an appointment. I figured if this place is booked solid like that then they must be pretty darn good! I came back with my brother who just so happens to sport a full beard and pretty burly hair. I wanted to see how they'd trim him up, so it was a day of brotherhood with coffee and a cut. We walked in and within 10 minutes we were seated. My barbers name was Shane and he was really cool n laid back. Gave me some ideas on what he could do with my hair and I told him "my hair is your canvas. I trust ya." So we talked about barbershops and about memories I had growing up watching my Dad get a shave and haircut at a local barber and buying cokes out of the old vintage coke machine and then getting his shoes shined by they barber's son. It was great conversation and before I knew it I looked up and I loved what he did. Super clean cut lines, symmetrical consistency and styled it to have a look of both classic and contemporary. I was very impressed with his work. I was done and I walked over to my brother and they did a great job giving his hair a nice trim and shaping his beard. Looked much cleaner and neater than before and he was very happy with the service. Sure you can walk in to any hair salon and pay less for an avg. cut but if today's precision barbershop cut experience is a peek of what else they can do then you can bet we'll be back again. I am curious to let some of the other barbers there work with my do. Who know's what kind of new looks they can suggest, but I am sure I will be happy with them. Just bad service and/or bad haircut I would be a little annoyed, but this guy acted rushed and not only was I a bother but that I personally offended him somehow. At the end he shoved a mirror in my face and said "hold this". Couldn't wait to get out of his chair. All the other barbers seemed to be friendly and the customers seemed happy. I would call ahead so you don't have to wait, if you do go next door the Catalina has some of the best coffee in town.
