Took the inlaws here. Told father in law to get the brown stew chicken. He didn't listen. He got brisket. He said it was eh. Mother in law is smart. She listened. He tried hers and said he should have gotten that. Why don't men listen to women?! My son LOVES the Jamaican rice and peas. And the macaroni and cheese. Or maybe I love to make him get it so I can steal bites. Go to order - brown stew chicken with Jamaican rice and peas and macaroni and cheese. Order it. Trust me. Actually don't. Cuz sometimes they run out of the brown stew chicken, and my whole day is ruined. My whole week. And I'm not me when I'm hungry. They added lamb chops to their appetizer menu and those are so flipping good. Probably the best best best lamb chops ever. WARNING. They are spicy. My father in law is the biggest weenie with spice and they were definitely too spicy for him , but he kept eating them anyway!!! Please keep these forever. read more

Cutlass Grille - Caribbean Near Me - Chesapeake, Virginia

I was craving some Jamaican/Caribbean a few weeks ago and we were in the area and decided to check this place out. Initially the hostess sat us down and told us our waiter would come by in a few minutes to take our drink and food order but a few minutes later the same lady came by to take our drink order so maybe they were busy during the lunch time. This place was fairly full for a late lunch; it was around 2PM when we arrived. When my water came out it had a fly in it.. i informed our waitress and she just took my drink and didn't apologize until she gave me a new one.. To start, I got the mini beef patties and these were very delicious. The crust was light, flaky and crispy and the beef was just so tasty and juicy. It came with a some sort of island dipping sauce which was great as well. For my main entree I got the curry goat which I thought was okay; the only I remember was that the goat was a dry and I couldn't finish it bc of that. The service was okay and the prices were reasonable. I would definitely come back and get those beef patties again. The parking lot is a shared lot so parking can be hard to find during peak times. read more

This restaurant started off with good food, good service and a great atmosphere. The last couple of times we visited the food was simply okay. The prices have increased but the quality and taste of the food has decreased. read more

This is one of my favorite places to go! The jerk chicken is my go to and I always have to get the macaroni and cheese. The staff is very friendly and the restaurant is very clean than most. I would recommend this place to everyone! read more

Cutlass Grille - Oxtail with 2 sides and extra side - Caribbean Near Me - Chesapeake, Virginia

Cutlass Grille is a great place to eat. I love their curry chicken. It's so tender and flavorful. They also make a wonderful carrot cake.

Man me and my girlfriend went everything and the food to music and vibes were great definitely going back.

The food was delicious and very tasty. You receive a nice portion and the service was quick and the food delivery was beautiful

We celebrated my nephew's birthday at Cutlass Grille. Food was excellent and portions were very generous. Service was awesome. Our server was Jalen. She was so patient and knowledgeable of the menu. One of the best servers I've had in some time. read more

Everything is good. No complaints on any of the dishes I tried thus far. I recently had the jerk lamb chops and they were juicy and delicious. read more

Super friendly staff. Love the food. Owners are super nice! Never had a bad meal for lunch or dinner.

This grille is the staple in my "let's get meat" places. They serve the best ribs, brisket and burnt tips. The appetizers are amazing as well. I have a hard time deciding what I want because I want it all every time! The only solution is to go as often as I can so I can have variety :) The sides are just amazing: Mac & cheese, rice dishes, green beans and my favorite place to eat collard greens. Ohhhh and the dessert! Yes! Definitely try the banana pudding! read more

I recently came here for my sorority's Founders' Day celebration. There was about 16 people in our party. I think our servers did a good job with such a large party. The food was excellent! I enjoyed all the dishes. I tried the mini beef patties, shrimp tacos, hot wings, oxtails, cabbage, rice and peas, jerk chicken, fried whitening, and the mac and cheese. Needless to say, I tasted over half the menu and everything was well seasoned and hot. I really enjoyed that Sean had special pink and green drinks for us for our special occasion. I thought that was a great touch! The drinks by the way are delicious. I had the pink martini. I couldn't taste the alcohol, but I definitely felt it. Overall, this was a great restaurant to host our celebration. I highly recommend this place for big parties. read more

Went to this restaurant yesterday what a disappointment! The hostess was rude made us feel very unwelcome and there was a sign that stated the dining room was closed 2 hours prior to the restaurant actually closing. There was a long line of people making take out orders due to this. I which establishments in Virginia had better preparation and friendly staff for everyone to experience. I have been to the restaurant before they moved and have been coming for years! Brought my family to have god Jamaican food read more

Everything was perfect. Literally everything. I mean, yes, the service was excellent. The ladies that helped us really made us feel like family and one of the managers came by and confirmed that we were now one big family. Our 70+ year old mother celebrated her birthday and they didn't make a fuss to embarass her but made her feel incredibly special. So the experience was amazing...but Oh-Mah-Gawd the food! Everything was seasoned perfectly. Please know that it probably WILL be spicy so if you are a wimp when it comes to spice, tread lightly. But even as my husband sweated through his shirt he ate every single bite because it was just soooooo good. We had curry goat, rum glazed pork chops and the BEST beans and Mac and cheese I have ever tasted. Everyone take note - THIS is what all Mac and cheeses aspire to be! Also, enjoy some delicious drinks! I had a Jamaican mule and it was lovely! read more

The atmosphere, the specials, the authenticity! OMG, and the food is always on point. There were periods early on where the service was lacking but they've overcome whatever was causing that. I am always blown away by the new specials! read more

I'm a self-proclaimed OX tail Connesiur! They have THEE best! I have had oxtails from all over and real authentic ones from jamaica this is the best. (don't tell my grammie but theirs is even better) the beef patties I was hassitant about because for one they were Minnie patties and they didnt look traditional. YALL....lemme tell yall it was BOMB especially the sauce with it. read more

Good food but of course overpriced for very easy cooking of Jamaican style food. Same food is literally $3 in Jamaica and other islands but Americans can't help themselves. read more

Gave the Cutlass Grille a try with a party of 20, for lunch today. I had the brisket with green beans as my side. The brisket was seasoned well, although the meat was quite fatty, but that didn't stop me from devouring my entire plate. The green beans, oh the green beans, were fantastic! Sautéed and grilled. Absolutely delicious. I'd make a meal out of just the green beans. Others in my party ranted and raved about the pulled pork and the collard greens...with several of the others taking another order of collard greens to go. The service was great, even for a group of 20, and each plate came out hot, which was great for a group this size. I'd definitely come back to try something else on the menu. read more

Food on point. Customer service was awesome!!! And we had a live band! I really had a good time. I can't wait to go back!!!

Accommodates large groups well. My work sets up events here often... never any issues. Personally, not my favorite kind of food, but according to my coworkers it's great! read more

Awesome food and great customer service. The food is very favorable. This place will not disappoint.

After being told of this place and hearing the high praises it received I was so determined to eat here! I made it a mission. However, the food was simply "okay" which was super disappointing. I had the red snapper which was my first time having that fish. I wouldn't say it was nasty, it just wasn't as great as I thought it was going to be. I sampled some of my friends rice and peas and that was amazing, which was the best meal item between the both of us. My mango margarita was also perfect. I don't think I will personally drive back here again but if someone asks me to accompany them I would, I would just pick something different off the menu. read more

The location is pretty nice, and customer service was great. I got a dark jerk with two sides ( Mac & collards ). The Mac was 7/10 good flavors but gave me cafeteria style vibes, was still good though. Collards was a 9/10 really good also really flavorful. The jerk was 7/10, has a nice smoky/Spivey flavor however I am used to the chicken being sauced which I did receive, so that was a bit different. Overall I would come back again. read more

Food always taste delicious. The service is exceptional and highly recommended.. The ambiance is nice as well.

This place is beginning to become one of my favorite places to eat. I constantly crave their Sweet Fries- in my opinion, one of the absolute best places for sweet potato fries! My go-to order is their hot wings as an appetizer and then their seafood combo of whiting and shrimp with one side (usually sweet fries). The wings are awesome- crunchy and always cooked right; it's basically a buffalo sauce, but there's just an extra kick and flavor to it that takes it to another level. The seafood plate is always fried to perfection and not overly salted or seasoned- just right! In the past, I've had their brisket (sooo good!), jerk chicken (a staple here!), macaroni and cheese (love!), and potato salad (also great!). I always look forward to coming here! read more

Food was decent. Service was poor considering the low number of folks at tables and at least six servers who were more interested in socializing among themselves versus serving. Automatic 20% tip "due to low staff" was unacceptable. Ambiance was poor with a table of three partying it up with loud foul language making my wife and I uncomfortable along with a couple of ladies at a table next to us. read more

Went to visit the new location last weekend. Almost made up for the time that they had the 'happy hour' appetizer special ...buy one , get one half price. I ordered the jerk lamb chops and the waitress advised me that i had to eat there. I did so reluctently (ate the first order only while seated there). The bill came and i had to tell the waitress that the second order did not ring up as half off. After the waitress spoke to the manager as to why it did not ring up properly, he said that the special didn't apply to the lamb chops! I pointed to the special that was posted on the chalk board that advertised the special and noted there were no exceptions noted. She again spoke to the manager and he would not waiver and insisted that I needed to pay full price. Even the waitress admitted that this was wrong. The waitress offered to pay out of her pocket for his mistake and he allowed her to do so. She apologized profusely. I vowed never to support the business again, but a friend insisted that I go last weekend. Food was good, but quite expensive and didn't quite make up for his poor customer service / managment skills. Additionally, auto gratuity for any size party is indicative that he doesn't trust the demographics of the people that supports his business (by the way, the place was fully staffed, so cannot use short staffing as the excuse). His greed will be his demise. read more

The potions are HUGE! *lol* This is my favorite Jamaican food restaurant in the Hampton Roads & Tidewater areas. Each time I've visited, I've ordered the Oxtails (w/various sides) and at least one other dish for me to pick at... I mean, for someone else to try. -.- The mac & cheese is a must! It's creamy, not eggy. You can see the white cheese melted in with the yellow as you pull the fork up and out. So drool-worthy! So yummy! The green beans taste like they're marinated and char-grilled. I've had a few people exclaim upon their first bite that the green beans are surprisingly good. They don't belie their looks. It's just that, who really expects much of green beans? Well, these are noteworthy. The rice and peas are, also, a must. The coco bread... omg! Tender and buttery! Upon biting into it, there's just enough texture to remind you that you are biting into something physical (as opposed to metaphysical or divine). The jerk chicken is grilled and smoked. This is so basic and so often overlooked! Dear everyone else, jerk chicken is supposed to be smoked! In fact, it's supposed to be smoked using pimento bark. But, at a minimum, just smoke it using what you have. This is where you're making me set the bar, folks! :( I digress. Cutlass doesn't cut corners here by simply slathering it with somekind of black pepper sauce. They actually smoke the chicken & it makes a huge difference! Yes, I would drive 18 miles for this chicken. It certainly helps that I can also pick from any sides and my beloved oxtails and be uber-satisfied! I'm not gonna get into details about my oxtail experiences. Somethings are deeply personal, spiritual even, and beyond words. Oh, service has been quick and friendly and great and the place is spotless. That food, though.... woooh-wee! read more

I live locally and have eaten at Cutlass Grille numerous times, the fact that I keep coming back should say enough. I am a creature of habit so I always get the jerk chicken (white and dark are both delicious). The chicken is super consistent, from the juiciness, seasoning, quantity, spicy level, freshness. My favorite sides are Mac and cheese and greens. The ox-tails are also very good but not as filling as the chicken. The cost is descent, I'd recommend for a 2nd or 3rd date lol. Also, if you are visiting VA this is definitely a go-to spot. If I ever move away, Cutlas would definitely be on my list to dine at while in town. read more

My favorite new restaurant! Hands down! I stopped in here with Fred B. a couple of weeks ago. Being my first visit I had no idea they had recently moved into the location, etc... The owner Sean came out and greeted Fred and then introduced himself to me and we were quickly seated at a table. The facility is brand new and impeccably clean. When you enter you see a bar on your left and then booths, with the open kitchen in the back. Then there's another more general dining area on the other side, which is where we were seated. I decided to fully immerse myself in the culture of the meal and when it came time for drinks to be ordered I selected a Jamaican Kola Champagne which tasted like a creme soda. It was very good on a hot summer evening. After going over the menu I had a tough time narrowing things down. There are so many good looking choices here. I ended up selecting the Curry Shrimp with Rice and told them to make it hot. I have to say that I was not prepared for the steak platter of wonderful that appeared before me a short time later. There were I think 7 large butterflied shrimp on a bed of rice and vegetables. Folks this is food perfection and Sean is on top of his game. I ate every last bit of it and frankly being the glutton that I am could have had some more. You have to try this. When we were finishing things up I inquired about a lunch menu and the said that what they normally do for a lunch special is take one of there dinner entree's and make a lunch sized portion and price. That works for me. I haven't been back for lunch yet... But I will be... Soon.... Very soon... read more

I had a long morning and was hungry for something with a little spice. It's in the plaza strip mall along battlefield Blvd. nearby Maymar Filipino restaurant. The atmosphere of the restaurant gives u a taste of the Caribbean. You get the island vibe with the music playing, and the Place was decorated with an island beach theme. I sat myself down at the bar to have me a fresh cocktail. I had some signature drink they made with pineapple, coconut and rum. Came by here to try their lunch specials they had to offer. I had the jerk chicken with collards. definitely had a kick to it. They gave me a lot of rice and beans. The lunch special was worth it for $8.99 The jerk chicken had the kick u needed. It was spicy! The collards were ok, it lacked a bit of flavor and they added a ton of rice and beans. I sure wish that there was an even ratio of chicken to rice. I had more rice then I did with the chicken. Great meal for the lunch valued price. read more

The owner Sean is very pleasant and attentive to his customers. The waitstaff is very knowledgeable and understand the menu very well. I ordered the Oxtails which were wonderful, tender, and full of flavor. The curry shrimp was also full of flavor and the shrimp themselves were very large and tasty. The macaroni and cheese and baked beans w/brisket is extremely addictive so be careful not to get hooked. The atmosphere was nice and the establishment was very clean. I will definitely return to this place and I highly recommend Cutlass Grille to those that are looking for great comfort food that is truly authentic and fresh. read more
