HUGE used book store and well worth the drive!…read more Their trade in process was really straightforward - when you walk in there's a trade in counter where they ask you to put your books into bins. I had one large bag that I sorted between two bins, one for books and the other for single issue comics and DVDs/non-books. About 45 minutes later I got a text that my trade-in was ready. I came back to the same counter after browsing the store and they offered me in-store credit or a lower amount in cash. They also returned the items they didn't want and I had the option to take them with me or leave them as a donation. I think it was a fair deal for what I donated, and I opted for the in-store credit. The store has a great mix of used books, dvds, comics, vinyl, and more that's pretty well organized. I will say there's a fair amount of duplicates of certain titles and it was interesting that some were priced higher than others - so check all the labels! In general the prices were reasonable with a few exceptions - I saw a really worn copy of a new hardback that they were selling for the list price ($35!) even though it had been out long enough that other books sellers were discounting it already. But then I also got a box set of dvds for $10 and a bunch of kids books for $0.50-2.00. It was easy to spend that in-store credit!

I have been shopping at this store for years now, unfortunately todays trip will be my last. Mckays…read morehas always had inaccurate pricing, but today they were so bad that I almost thought I was dreaming. Tell me why I saw Star Wars the Clone Wars: Lightsaber Duels for $18... Currently this game goes for $3.67 on pricecharting, heck when it game out in 2008 its peak was only a measly $5. Multiple gbc/gba shovelware games all overmarket, by around 10 dollars as well. In general the amount of 3-5 dollar games that they are trying to pass off as 15 - 20 dollar games is dis gracefully disgusting. The point of traveling to these stores are to get the good deals. All of the inventory they have are traded in for or donated so it makes NO sense! It seems that the employees make guesses when it comes to prices, that or they are being told to overprice by upper management. By the gaming section there was a sign that claimed that all of the consoles and equipment is tested beforehand by "gamers with over 30 years of experience" whatever that means. I got an Xbox One Kinect from them back in December, and worked normally. A couple days later I wanted to try using its mic functionality, was not functioning. So it was never fully tested by "gamers with over 30 years of experience" lol. The worst part is that they give you a 3 day warranty... it's not like people have kids, jobs, or other commitments I guess. The media (dvds and blu rays) were also overpriced per usual. Usually only by 5-10 bucks. My main discrepancy today was that I saw multiple dvds and blu rays with dirt and filth smattered on the covers. Your telling me that they have the audacity to up charge, and still refuse to even spend 10 seconds wiping the cover with a lysol wipe? Is it that hard to do? Disgusting! I can't speak on their book pricing as I am not well versed but pretty much everything else is overpriced in this store. It really sucks because these type of stores are supposed to be for lower income families who can't buy new. And instead is being treated like a greedy gaming convention booth. I genuinely feel bad for kids nowadays who want to start growing a small gaming collection post pandemic. With greedy "thrift" stores like this, even the shovel ware games are off-limits.

I have been a patron of the Manassas Music and Arts store for many years. I've come to know Mike…read morethe manager and Wes as my go to's. They know through our interactions when I'm looking to make a purchase. In this case to upgrade my tenor sax. They are not pressure salesman. If they were, I would not be working with them, trust me on that. I bought a very nice, professional tenor sax at their Horn Showcase in December 2023. It seemed like the perfect choice. But as I really dug into it at home, I noticed one quirky thing. I informed them about it. I took it to my technician twice and talked to their technician as well. They heard and understood what was happening but nothing showed that was wrong to fix it. I informed Mike and Wes about this "thing" and they brought in another horn for me to try to see about an exchange. It was a more expensive horn, but the horn I bought even with the very annoying quirk played so much better. While I haven't decided if I'm going to return the sax or not, I will say how much of a pleasure it is and has been working with Mike and Wes over the years. They have been consumate professionals and consultative through this whole process as well. I am woodshedding the horn now, putting it through its paces. It seems to be working out, hopefully, as I adjust this and fiddle with that. One of my sax friends has the soprano model of my tenor and and alto by the same manufacturer shared that is a quirk in his horns as well. But he loves them all the same. I get it. The long and short of it is, this is my store and they are my dudes. In an age of rapidly declining customer service, I have nothing but the highest praises for them and the culture they've got going on over there. I will not look to work with any consultants other than Mike and Wes and the Manassas Music and Arts team. Go check them out. Bravo and thank you! As a P.S. I discovered with my repair tech the screws on the octave mechanisms on both necks needed to be addressed. They werent allowing the pad to stay completely sealed with that one fingering. That seemed to do the trick. I'm glad.
