I'm really surprised to see the negative reviews, which appear to be older -- I have only good things to say about this business. I recently relocated to San Diego from the east coast with two cats who endured 5 days of riding in the car. I didn't move my furniture to save costs, and knew I wanted to get them something (partly out of guilt!) right away. I found Custom Kittys, sent an inquiry via their website, and the owner was in touch later that day. I wasn't keen on driving out to San Marcos to see what he had in stock, so I told him what I liked on the website and he texted me photos of what he had on hand. I chose the one I liked, and he offered to deliver it to me either that same day or the next day (it's all a blur as I had literally just arrived here, but point being it was fast!). I decided to go for it, as the prices were lower than those at Petco/Petsmart, and I'm glad I did. The owner arrived on time and carried the giant, 6.5 feet tall cat tree to my apartment. We placed it by the window, I paid him cash and that was it! The best part is, one month later the cat tree is proving to be really sturdy and well-made: the cats LOVE it and have definitely subjected it to all of their antics (scratching, jumping from level to level -- there are 4 -- and being crazy). That tree is their new little home, and it looks like it's going to hold up even better than anything you'd buy at a bigger corporate store. Extremely satisfied with the experience and convenience of the purchase, but even happier that the cats love it -- this is well worth the cost and I highly recommend this business! read more

I've had my amazing cat tower for 8 years and it's very very sturdy. My 2 big cats have abused its for years and it's withstood it all! The best cat tower around!!! read more

Small business!!! So nice! I had him make the biggest cat tree and my cat loved it!!! He let me pick colors, and make alterations!!! I could not recommend a better artisan! read more

EDIT: In response to the "business owner" (term used lightly): he did in fact show me his work- he sent many pictures. He volunteered the free consultation, and he also told me he wanted to "hook me up" with some really cool designs for cheap in exchange for a good Yelp review. THAT should have been my first clue. The total lack of communication is what turned me off. If you cannot respond to a potential customer, much less cannot even keep an appointment that was set a week in advance, I most certainly do not want your business, discounted or not. This place is a joke! First, he missed the initial consultation, then he doesn't ever respond. ZERO COMMUNICATION. All the negative reviews are completely accurate. Don't waste your time! read more

We can't begin to express how thrilled we and our girls are with our new Custom Kittys cat tree! It really exceeds all our expectations. The tree is everything we could have hoped for and more, and all three of our cats love it. Since this was a custom order with modifications being made on the fly, we had no idea what to expect, but Custom Kittys really went above and beyond to fill our order, complete with an in-home consultation and free delivery. I simply cannot recommend strongly enough what a wonderful job they did and how happy we are with our new cat tree. Ignore all the bad reviews of this company. I was going to buy a cat tree from a retail pet store, and 100% happy that I didn't. The quality of the cat tree I bought today from Cruz, is top quality. He asked me what cat tree I wanted from his website customkittys.com. I chose the most expensive one of course, only the best for my two new kittens. Cruz asked for a down payment, which was quite reasonable. I drove down to Vista from Riverside to pick it up within 1 week. He not only loaded into my truck, but tied it down properly with straps I provided. Cruz is very timely and responds to all text messages within a very short time. He customized my requests and again his work was top quality. I chose to have it the full 7 feet. It is so tall, only the cats can reach the top. The carpet goes inside and up all sides. He even finishes the bottom, with a black lining so the wood doesn't show. I bought a cat tree from someone else in San Diego and it lasted me 20 years. Cruz's quality looks even better than that one. The edges are perfectly straight and I can't see any glue or screws. The best part is my 2 kittens love it. It is a shame that some people have given this company bad reviews. Cruz takes pride in his work and it shows. I have added some pictures of some of the underside work, which is beautifully done. Because it is so tall, it makes a huge difference since that it what I see when I look up at the kittens up top. If you are in the market for a new cat tree, spend your money here. Thank you Cruz for a fabulous cat tree! read more

Cruz stole my cat tree 10-28-20 along with my $60 deposit as he agreed to recover it! No contact, doesn't respond to txt messages or calls, apparently the phone belongs to his girlfriend, mistress or whatever she is. He was 'supposed' to deliver tree mid-November, confirmed by text then didn't show up, said it wasn't finished but he would bring it that following Sunday after Thanksgiving. Haven't heard from him since. I've told him KEEP THE MONEY, I just want my tree back. This tree was built 20 years ago with heavy solid wood and 6" fence posts, I want it back and I'll finish the job. No response, I've sent nasty texts asking for my effin' tree back. No response. DO NOT USE THIS GUY! This seems to be a pattern of his in taking your item, taking your money and then you never hear from him again. read more

If you enjoy a lack of communication, missed appointments, not getting what you paid for, and having to threaten to sue someone to get a refund, then this business is for you! I've been trying to support more local and BIPOC businesses recently, and when I found this local business I was excited about the prospect of getting a high quality item while supporting my community. The price was higher than overseas mass-produced cat trees, but that's to be expected. The first agreed-upon delivery date came and went. A week later, so did the second. I received no contact in both cases, had to reach out to the owner, and waited several days for a response both times. The second time I got a story about a shared phone, an out-of-date website, and a car accident, the last of which is terrible if true, but I'd found this Yelp page and realized that it was highly likely I was getting screwed. The owner told me he couldn't deliver the item, and I'd already told him that I couldn't pick it up, so I requested a refund. THIRTEEN DAYS LATER I sent a message that if he didn't refund me I was going to file a suit in small claims court the next day. I finally got my money back, but I was ready to take him to court. I've never sued anyone before and I've never had to threaten it before, and I hope that I never have to again. Look elsewhere! read more

Extremely disappointed in their customer service! I highly recommend buying from someone else who actually has business ethics! Their site claims to have over 10 carpet colors to choose from, yet when we called he said he only had 3. So obviously we didn't order just yet considering we wanted to talk about whether or not we would settle for ugly plain carpet. In the end we decided, yes, we would only because we really liked the design of the condo. So we call back and order it. We are told it will be done and delivered within a week. We wait patiently and expectantly. We have money burning a hole in our pocket, ready to pay. The delivery date comes and we get no call or knock on our door. OKAY. So we wait one more day hoping we hear something; WE DON'T. So finally we call to figure out what happened, did they forget or something?? Nobody answers, straight to voicemail. So I call off of my phone and guess what?!?! THEY ANSWER. So not only did they blow us off but they are also avoiding our calls. WTF. So I nicely explain I'm so and so's gf are you still going to make and drop off our order?? "Oh yes, it will be delivered in a day" says they. Ok says me. That day comes and no call or knock on our door. AGAIN. I am fucking livid by this point. Do you want business or not?!?!?! If I could give them ZERO stars I would! DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE THEY ARE FAKE READ THE FILTERED REVIEWS!! read more

Just received the custom cat tree I ordered last week. It is awesome! Super quality at a really good price. I am so happy with Cruz's work and so are my cats. Although, they're still getting use to the "new" smell, I know they will be all over it in a day or two. Thank you so much Cruz for your hard work and quality work! I will be ordering more items in the future and telling my "cat" friends. read more

I called in an order and was told it would be delivered the next day. More than a week later, nothing, no call or response to my messages. Not sure what happened. Fortunately, did not pay. read more

Just an update because I was asked. I was told a few months later that my cat tree was finally done. As there was no communication up to this point I had already purchased a different tree. I asked for my money back, and was told he would mail a check. I never got it. read more

I was in need of a new kitty tree for my cat and I heard that custom kitties makes cat trees for a great price. I called them up and I met them the same day and made my order. He said it will be ready in two days and can have it delivered on Friday just have the payment ready when he delivers it. I was so happy and had the cash ready to go. Friday came, I was waiting all day and he never showed up. I called and left a message. After calling several times and leaving messages after a period of a month he finally calls back and asks if I was still interested in the tree. I replied yes and gave him a week to deliver and I would be waiting with the money. Nothing. I'm so fed up I decided to take my business elsewhere. read more

On Monday we gave Cruz two pieces to work on: a 55" multi level condo with 2 ledges, a tube and a half tube; and a 36" scratching post anchored on a big sturdy base. The condo is a piece I've had for 20 years. My cat grew up on it, and it's perfect for her. Try to find someone in San Diego other than Cruz who will re-carpet it. Won't happen - that's old school custom work. Good price, great 2 tone carpet nice and snug, the work was terrific and he turned it around in less than a week! same thing on the scratching post - except that was a carpet job from scratch. Looks great too. He called me in the evening about halfway through the job to discuss some details of the work. He wanted me to be informed, and he wanted my signoff. That's the way it should be done. My experience was great, I highly recommend him, I took some of his business cards, and would use him again for sure. read more

I have had one of these cat trees for over 2 years with 4 cats, plenty of room, well built, and they love it! Highly recommend this.

I just purchased a cat tree from Cruz at Custom Kitty's! Cruz went out of his way to customize the tree for our cats needs and didn't even charge me more! Cruz was running late for his 1st delivery he was half way here and I told him it was too late he was a gentleman about it and came the next morning. The tree is top quality and I would recommend this company to all my friends. read more

This was a pretty good experience. Cruz was a little late to our appointment but he more than made up for it with a great priced kitty tree. He doesn't have much in stock so it's advised you text him ahead of time to have him tell you what he has on hand, he is willing to make one to your specifications as well. All I can say is that the price of the tree would put petco and any other big box store to shame. It's clearly made well and when our cats arrive in sure they'll love it. I would highly recommend him. read more

This thief picked up my cat perch from my home after weeks of discussing what he could and would do for recovering it (this is a unique perch from 20 years ago made with STURDY wood and 6" fence posts - it wasn't cheap back then and certainly wouldn't be today!). He showed up with his wife, mistress, girlfriend - whatever she is - at my house on 10-28-20 where he 'talked the talk' and asked for a $60 deposit, which I paid in cash. Said it would be done in a week or 10 days and I picked out the carpet I wanted from the back of his white SUV. I asked him what number I can reach him at, which he provided - apparently it's a 'shared' number probably that of his 'lady friend.' Reached out to him by text multiple times and finally in mid Nov. and he said it was finished and would deliver it to me, he never showed, never responded to messages for another week. Then said he would deliver it the end of Nov - and from there, all communication stopped despite MOUNTAINS of messages to him. I told him keep the $60, I just want my cat perch back - finished or not - I want it back! No response...FIVE MONTHS LATER and today, still texting and they are reading them cuz my phone tells me that - but no response. I am getting nasty now and will be reaching out to the police as this is theft (and others have also experienced this theft), going to the news, yelping, FB posts, and anywhere else I can to have others avoid this. This was my CATS perch and they've missed it every day since this (bleeper) has STOLEN IT and my money! STAY AWAY FROM THIS GUY - it's a SCAM business!!! read more

BEST CAT TREE EVER!!! The quality really is amazing. All my other cat trees are wobbly and shake like crazy anytime the cats use it. This tree is sturdy and the cats love it. Cheaper than any price online/in store, already assembled home delivery! You can't beat that!! Great company! read more

Cruz makes quality furniture and the cats love it! Sold wood, carpet that doesn't shed, nice neutral colors and good pricing. I purchased a new one, and he recovered an old favorite. It looks better than the original one! I had no problems dealing with Cruz. He was polite and friendly and I will be buying from him again. You should too! . read more

I wanted a custom cat tree. Called and called. Sent email. Finally got the guy to answer. Was promised a call the next day which I never got. They must not want business :-( Their web site looks really perky and friendly but they are not. read more

DO NOT DO BUSINESS HERE......the worst business I have ever dealt with. Irresponsible, lies and never delivers on the product. In this case it was a cat tree. Cruz says that he will deliver it and then never shows up or calls to tell you he blew you off. I gave a 40 percent deposit and can not even receive a return phone call. I am considering a small claims court case against him just because businesses like Cruz and Custom Kitty should not exist. read more

Took a $200 deposit and never built the cat tree. He did return one phone call months later when I informed him I had reported him to the vista sheriffs department. He told me he would get me the cat trees in a week. Since then, weeks have passed and he has not responded to any texts or voice mails read more

We had an old, ugly cat perch next to our kitchen bar, which our 2 HUGE Maine Coon cats use so they can be with everyone when we hang out. The cats had destroyed it so completely, that it was an embarrassment, but we couldn't find another at any price, to replace it. I mean, the combined weight of these 2 animals is 43 Lbs (!) so it had to be big and heavy-duty. I found Customkittys online, and called. Cruz Salazar (cat lover and craftsman), called me back and less than a week later, I have a brand new, made to order, beautiful cat perch that cost me less than the original we bought years ago. I am recommending him to all my friends and family; you can't get a better product or a better price anywhere (and he's a very nice guy,) Oh, and he delivered it to our home and took away the old trashed one, too! read more

I am very happy with the cat tree I picked out from this business. Cruz was very helpful and great customer service. My cats LOVE their new tree and I plan on getting an old tree re-carpeted by him later on. I HIGHLY recommend him if you are in the market for a new cat tree! read more

Extremely happy with our new cat tree (and so is our bengal!). The cat tree is very stable and you can tell it was made well. I told Cruz that I wanted the cat tree to be mainly dark brown to go with our living room and the rest I left up to him. When he pulled up I could already tell that the dark brown & light brown combination he picked out was going to look amazing. Like I said the cat tree is made very well and so worth the extra money buying from someone who knows what they are doing. Once our bengal saw the cat tree she loved it too. She immediately jumped through and loved peeking her head out of the holes. The material he uses is also really soft, so it has become her preferred place of sleeping. You can also tell that Cruz knows what he is doing when it comes to what cats like doing on the cat tree. There are places to play and places to lounge, as well as places to scratch up. Thanks Cruz! I would recommend him to anyone. read more

I am highly disappointed with this company and Cruz's lack of professionalism. I had recently ordered one of his cat trees. First of all, he did not respond to my order when I went through the online process. So then I assumed I had to pay through paypal in order for him to process the order. So i payed for the item through his website. He called me a few days later to say the order was ready and wanted to deliver it either that day or the following day. When I returned his call and left a message, he didn't respond. I called the next day, and he said that he saw that I called but didn't check his messages.. So I asked him if he could deliver it later that day. He said since he didn't check his messages, he made plans already. Nice.. Then we arranged for him to drop off the item on Saturday morning at 9. He then asked me if he could cancel my pay pal order and have me pay him directly in cash, because he didn't want to fill out the paperwork for paypal.. Ok, then why does he have the pay pal link on his website to begin with if he doesn't want to use them?? Saturday morning comes and goes.. No delivery!! I call and text him several times to see when he is going to deliver the item, and he doesn't even have the decency to return my messages! I'm now trying to get a refund through pay pal or have him deliver my item, but so far he continues to not respond! This company is a joke! read more
