Imagine ordering smoked Gouda in your cheeseburger that neither tastes smoked nor tastes like Gouda. That pretty much sums up Custom Burger. It seems so unique from the outside. Then you actually taste it. Then you realize you're paying an extraordinary price for ordinary fare. The fries weren't bad. Their ordering system is more trouble than it's worth in my mind. read more

Awful spot to eat and waste of money. Do not get the chili dog unless you feel like sitting on the toilet all afternoon. The chili doesn't even look or taste like chili- went straight to the garbage. The fries were cold, and when I asked for fresh, hot ones , I got attitude, waited about ten min only to be served another order that was the same as the first. Very disappointing- and wish I had read the Yelp reviews 1st read more

I like TOASTED buns, and I cannot lie. They do not toast yo buns here.. Located in Terminal C! There's actually a variety of food to choose from! (hot/cold buffet by weight, Italian sandwiches, Asian food) But I was attracted to Custom Burger because of the large crowd in front of it. After ordering from these places, you get a receipt and scan it at the check out near the snacks. Cards with chips in them were not accepted at the time because that part was broken. FOOD They have a pre-set Vegetarian Burger: black beans patty, tomato chutney, mozzarella sauce. I don't know why but I decided to customize my burger. My customized burger: Black beans patty, tomato, pickles. The burger was alright..It was not bind well together because I remember how the "meat" would fall apart and I would have to pick up the pieces to eat it. The pickles and tomato were free add-ons! Their pickles were A+ I was impressed by the order system. You can input your phone number and it'll let you know when your food is ready! Took about 10 minutes, but you can go pay during that time! I think there are better options to try in this terminal! read more

What a disappointment ! Cheap and cold bun. $1.55 for caramelized onion which came with just 2/3 small pieces. No taste to speak of whatsoever. Wish I did not have to finish eating the burger but I always hate to waste food. No more! read more

Avoid at all cost. People who are making the burgers have no interest in what they are doing. Save your $$ and buy something else

Employees hanging around and not cooking anything. Don't waste your time if you need something quick.

Looooong wait for omelette. Omelette a two. Wait a 1... Ended up not finishing it. Not worth the meh taste. Also their box leaked and they didn't provide napkins. read more

If you're in a rush or looking for a GOOD burger, then this is NOT the place for you. Order for yourself on an iPad (make sure to specify "no thanks" if you DON'T want fries... they conveniently just add it on for $3.75) and then pay at ANOTHER kiosk before waiting around in a very disorganized mass of people waiting for their orders. Oh yeah and the Wabi-Sabi next door is doing the same thing... make sure you actually get handed the right food. Burgers are below average... at least it was cooked? Good airport food is hard to come by... this definitely isn't the place to find it. read more

I had a layover here in New Jersey. This restaurant looked like a great idea. While they are cooking your burger, you pick the toppings you want. It's real similar to Subway. If it catches on, this could become a major chain across the country. read more

I would have given it 4 stars but the order system and payment systems are separate. An employee stands around directing people from the order system to the payment system which is several feet away. The payment system doesn't take ApplePay so one more merchant now has my real credit card number. The mushroom burger was adequate. Irritating that drinks can't be purchased at the same time as the meal. An incredibly inefficient way to conduct business. $21.43 for a single patty with mushrooms and side of onion rings. I was willing to pay the price but fix the flow of business operations. I watched several customers come up with mistakes that were made to their orders. read more

I didn't get a chance to take a picture before I devoured my meal! I got the Avocado burger with a veggie patty and fries. Hands down one of the BEST veggie burgers I've ever had. The patty was humongous and so fresh including the hamburger roll, avocado and other toppings. The fries were also surprisingly good and could have stood alone. The up charge for the fries was very reasonable. Overall, I was VERY satisfied. This didn't just taste like airport food but like an actual stand-alone restaurant . read more

Custom Burgers or is it burger? I can't figure out what the actual name is but (insert correct name here) serves a very solid burger for being an airport stand. I had the Americano burger which included tomatoes, onions, lettuce, ketchup, mayo and American cheese. The patties are grilled fresh, a very nice surprise. My biggest issue with this restaurant is the price. We ordered 5 burgers and 3 fries and ended up paying north of $70. Very very pricey. The fries while not bad taste wise were a couple degrees warmer than ice cold. If I could do it again I would just order the burgers and maybe get a bag of chips from somewhere. The iPad ordering system is a pain in the ass to deal with and we ended up accidentally ordering an extra burger with nothing on it, just a patty on a bun. That being said Custom Burgers offers a very solid burger at a pretty inflated price. Solid airport find. read more

I'm usually the harsh critic when it comes to burgers or even at most places. I guess the 1.5 star rating had set my expectation low. In any case, this burger was surprisingly solid for an airport venue! I had a burger with American cheese and bacon. The bacon was actually thick cut decent tasting bacon. I expected the subway style, paper thin, chemical smelling bacon. This was far from that. The burger meat itself was not gourmet or fresh but certainly was decent. I'll take one of these burgers any day over In N Out. read more

Really good burger w a fresh taste and ingredients w quick service. Use the QR code platform to quickly order and order was correct. Great tasting burger, def better than a fast food alternative...this was definitely good food quickly! read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. You order at the kiosk and then you pay at a different machine. I paid with my card, and I put my name in so they could call my name instead of my ticket number when my order was ready. So I must have not printed out my receipt, assuming there would be no issues. I went to the restroom, and rushed back, to find my order was not ready. Someone else probably took it. And evidently they did not call out my name, they call out the order, so they called out mushroom burger. Management couldnt refund me, and when management went to see if my order was ready, the worker said he didnt know. Do not eat here. You will either miss your flight, or lose your shit over this unorganized no-system bullshit. read more

I don't come to the airport for a good burger, but if I were to find one at my home based airport, I'd be happy. Maybe even happy enough to have something to look forward to when my flight is delayed for 3 1/2 hours. $13.75 is what you're going to spend for a burger, fires and a soft drink at a place like Burger-Fi, Shake Shack, or maybe even 5 Guys. You'll spend it here, too, but it won't be nearly as good. I don't like what the Port Authority has done with the food vendors here in Newark. I'm all for offering some better options for travelers and trying to give the airport a cooler vibe, but not all "upscale" additions make sense. Customer Burger would make sense if there was better execution. Fries had been sitting around, the burger was undercooked, the ordering system really stinks (you self order on a tablet, but you still have to hand your card over, and there's no obvious order to the line for ordering or waiting for the food to be ready). I wish i could say there were better options in this section of Terminal C, but this might be your best bet. read more

As other reviews have said, please expect airport prices for a basic burger and fry joint. Due to the wait time, I assume all menu items are made to order. Hot and fresh is definitely what you will get. The only thing I do not understand is the honor system surrounding the accoutrements at the counter. Because of the self serve technology, patrons place their order and make their payments at a kiosk. I saw some people picking up drinks and such and just walking away. Maybe they paid for them, maybe their didn't but I just don't get how that is managed. read more

So...this isn't really a 5 star place...but it might be considering its fast food airport food. I'm honestly giving it this rating to bring up the aggregate score because it's a perfectly decent place for what it is. The place is exactly what it purports to be--a basic burger place. The iPad ordering system IS NOT complicated. If you can figure out yelp you can figure out the ordering process. My burger took maybe 5 minutes, but it was not busy when I arrived. The central payment system is somewhat odd, but I might appreciate it if I had a family with people ordering from different places within the food court. Since it was just me, it wasn't ideal. read more

Miserable experience. If you have a few hours, order here. It took over 30 minutes for 3 hamburgers. You are standing with everybody else. They just bring the food or and dump if on the counter. Take what you want. 3 burgers and chicken fingers $75. Never again. read more

A friend of mine tried submitting a feedback form on their website, and for some reason it refused to submit. Here's what he had to say about it: The ordering process was extremely confusing and nobody seemed to know what I was supposed to do, except for one individual who was rather rude. The Coke Freestyle machines were out of everything except for Powerade. The people working there didn't even know what the drink prices were as there was no clear signs. The "Custom Burger" was out of the custom sauce but didn't bother to tell me until after I had paid. Prices are ridiculously high... $8.50 for a tiny burger that would be $1 at a fast food restaurant, and the food quality was clearly rushed. The music was far too loud and overwhelming for someone like myself who has an anxiety disorder. Overall I would have rather just gotten something at McDonald's because this felt like something out of a cyberpunk nightmare, a whole lot of style with practically no substance except to make me feel incredibly stressed. Also, [the] website is poorly designed as well, the receipt did not tell me which location I was at and the "rate your experience" section reset randomly while I was typing this. read more

Newark Terminal C. Ordered a basic burger, fries, and drink. Waited about 50 minutes. About 20+ customers waiting similar if not longer times. There were definitely more than 10 workers at the stand. Workers from other stands got priority and were served within minutes. read more

This place is a sad excuse for a $9 burger. First off they didn't get my order and it wasn't even custom. I ordered avocado bacon burger and what came out is meat and avocado inside a bun. It's missing onions bacons lettuce tomatoes. I'm filing a rejection through my credit card company. This is absolutely ridiculous. unfortunately my gate was too far away and i wasn't able to have them rectify my order. Obviously they don't care. I want my $9 back please. read more

This was a horrible ride on a Sunday morning before boarding. We placed our order at 9:25 am. Via the app because that's all they allow. Received our receipt and order confirmed. 10 minutes later, still standing there with no cook in sight and 3 others placed orders too. Finally, they come out and start cooking. Four people received their food even though we placed our order first. This is where it gets fun. At 9:45, we ask about our order and they claim they didn't get it. We show them the order and receipt. The customer service associate said they didn't even have bacon, which is clearly not true since it's sitting right there. No offer to actually make our food. Then they walk away. When they come back, we ask how they are going to rectify yo no answer. We ask for a manager- who refuses to come over. We ask for a refund and they text the manager for the refund saying it will happen. I'm supposed to trust that?! The manager still refuses to come to the area. Most importantly, the associate put on gloves but was touching her phone and scratching her head with the gloves on then grabbing potatoes to put on peoples plates. Disgusting. Neither interested in working for their customers or resolving issues. read more

Garbage service with attitude. Messed up my order and wouldn't take it back. I clearly didn't pick anything they put on my burger. I didn't order cheese but they put it on. I demanded to speak with the manager which I rarely ever do. No one ever showed up. Staff just shrugged their shoulders and said the manager would take a while. Don't waste your time. read more

Very slow service. And they double charged me for my meal. Either someone got a free meal or they are just a bunch of crooks. The worst fast food restaurant every. At insult to injury, it took 40 mins to complete my order. Not worth the wait. Go anywhere else you would be better off. read more

One star because the following: i never complain about food nor pricing but this place is not good. literally gave me a Wendys size burger with cheese and bacon on it for 8$. Itconsisted of a bun, tiny burger , cheese, bacon , bun. Also I never care for rude cashiers cause well it's fast food but because burger tasted like a cheesy piece of cardboard for 8$ I'm gonna have to throw in rude cashier also. 10/10 would not recommend to friends traveling through the Newark airport. I'm also downloading yelp and trip advisor so as many people possible are informed that this is not a food place to go eat. Small quantity of food, high price , bad service, it's all automated (you order on a machine ,pay somewhere else, get your food and then walk somewhere else to get your drink, cashier didn't even tell us that we needed to pick up our drinks elsewhere so when we asked for our drinks she got upset.) The only decent thing about this place was the milkshake. And it wasn't even all that, small , pricey, too thick. I want to reiterate I never complain about food or price. I downloaded many apps and accounts were made to inform my fellow burger lovers stay away! read more

Typical of Newark airport. They half ass everything and misrepresent what they offer. Overall burger was not bad tasting so I'm giving it 2 stars, but description says fire roasted jalapeños and avocado. Instead it was jalapeños from a can and some guacamole. I bought this for the fresh slices of avacado and fire roasted jalapeños. Clearly this is not what I received as you can see from the picture. read more

DO NOT GO HERE! I repeat - DO NO GO HERE. I stopped here yesterday to get my son a burger and all I can say is WOW. the first five minutes was watching a staff member do whatever while yelling to someone in the back that her sister better pick her up on time. Literally five minutes of here just talking and completely ignoring customers. If that wasn't the kicker - the Staff was yelling at customers - and I mean YELLING at customers. There was only one woman making food in the front who abruptly left in the middle of cooking because a severely pissed off customer who had been waiting for over 30 minutes tried to ask her what the holdup was, and she started SCREAMING AT HIM and then abruptly left the food line and never came back.... If you did yourself the lovely favor of looking at the food line in the back of the restaurant there was an employee who took a sandwich (no gloves) and was opening ketchup packets with her mouth, and them SPITTING THEM ON THE FOOD LINE and using those packets on the burgers. People were ordering fries only to have their meals come out without fries and when asked where the fries were the employee yelled, it aint working today... however the lovely lady behind the counter never mentioned of word of that and when asked she said "not my problem". DO. NOT. GO. HERE. I would give it zero stars but you can't. This business should be closed by the health department. read more

Fucking gross. They only have iPad and QR code ordering so basically a shit ton of people waiting around for 30 minutes plus for what's meant to be fast food while they shout out orders completely absent of any chronological order. About what you'd expect from airport food. I tried the custom veggie burger, which comes with marinara and mozzarella cheese. It was pretty awful. Veggie patty thrown on a grill (but still cold by the time I got it), with an untoasted bun, a chunk of mozzarella, and some awful marinara sauce. I didn't even finish it. My expectations for airport food are low - I wasn't expecting much...but I was disappointed. Yuck. read more

The entire set up makes you really really want a burger. And the snazzy ordering system where you select what you want via tablet and can make customizations to your burger is pretty on point.... But the delivery? Man oh man do you feel deceived afterwards. They show you a picture of onion strings with thin batter and what you end up with are those huge breaded onion rings that come from some big frozen food producer. The burgers look so much better in the picture compared to the half-assed burger that's lop-sidedly put together for you. The tablet gives you the option of ordering your burger medium vs well...well, I ordered a medium and THAT didn't happen. I think this is a case of overselling and under-delivering. And the price point was ridiculous -- had they delivered on the menu, then it'dve been worth the $10 i paid for the burger and $5 for the tiny portion of onion rings, but nah. read more

It was alright. Not great but I guess it was good enough for being airport food. Nothin stood out about the place. Nice people, but a small burger that was just ok. Fries were ok too. Overall it filled my gut....but I wouldnt get it again most likely. read more

Nothing special, again. Typical airport food. The fries weren't bad, but the burger bun was kind of dry and the burger itself a little overcooked, again. The bacon was crisp though, which was nice. The feta cheese was a nice touch as well. Again, Terminal B/United has a very automated system going on and it was kind of off putting ordering and only interacting with a human once when accepting my food, but I guess that's the way society is headed. Again, probably better food to be found in Terminal C, I just haven't found it quite yet. Love the cafeteria area, though! Well designed and sleek. read more
