STAY AWAY FROM CUSTOM BURGER!!! Please, please, PLEASE find another place for you to eat. Not only the food is bad, but they are pricey! Over $14 (including tax) for the small, burnt burger combo??? Even if the fries were awesome (which they were NOT), it does not worth $14 at all. Very disappointing... Don't let the beautiful photo on the touch screen fool you! read more

Custom Burger - Slippery Jack combo. Does not look anything like their photo. - Burgers Near Me - Newark, New Jersey

1 star for fried pickles (which probably had spit in it... Here's why:) 1.) They have a terrible system where you can "customize" your burger on a tablet by adding your own combination of toppings, made to order medium or well done (which is totally fake because they just cook all their burgers at the same time with no regards to who order which). Anyhow, this broken system allows you to add your sides, drinks, etc. Which would have been great... IF the customers can pay at the tablet after placing their order. INSTEAD you take a ticket and deal with dimwit #1 behind the counter to pay for your order. 2.) now you wait for your food after waiting to pay for your food. You can watch the other 2 dimwits make your food. By the way, I apologize to all the real dimwits who are probably smarter than these 3 stooges. I should have known that after waiting to pay for my food, I saw a bunch of people standing waiting for their food to come. 3.) after waiting for 30 minutes to get my food and now only have 15 minutes to make my flight, I now told dimwit #1 to pack my food up and forget whatever they're waiting for (THE FRIED PICKLES). She threw the biggest and nastiest attitude telling me that she needs to serve the customers waiting to pay for their food. 4.) the inefficiency of this place and the attitude scores this place a negative review. It is truly unbelievable that instead of getting an apology, I received a major attitude. 5.) the burger is dry and small and tasteless. GO ELSEWHERE. the fries and fried pickles were good. The price was reasonable. 6.) TO MANAGEMENT: your 3 dimwit today served 5 orders within 30 minutes. You might wAnt to send a secret shopper. Your cook could give a flying heck about the orders that people were putting in. There was no teamwork. The cashier person gives more attitude than service. You should really watch what goes on in the shift. It's an embarrassing attempt to calling it service. I will never eat at this establishment ever again! read more

Avoid! 35 minutes for chicken wings and a cold burger. A vending machine should be a better choice. Nobody knows what's up with orders, all out of order. Sad cold burger stuck to its wrapper for $10. Never again. read more

Looked like affordable option in food court, on way to gate for boarding. QR code required - annoying when on a call for business. Pre-paid, then burger (ONE BURGER!!) took over 20 minutes. Disappointed. Got my order wrong, and was slow. I watched as my burger sat, getting cold while the crew looked for buns in the back and/or tried to sort out orders. Finally they got around to adding g the fries and handing it to me. Will not go back. read more

Bad food, bad service, rude people, extremely expensive. Ordered through the togo qr code and waited for 15 min to get the order. The lady serving the food missed my order so i asked her about the order status after 15 min. She just looked into their computer and didnt respond. When I asked again, rudely replied "WAIT MY HANDS ARE BUSY". Didnt even bother to apologize that she missed my order. Then after finally getting the food, it was bad, the fries were cold and sandwich was burnt. And this was for 20$ . DO NOT EAT HERE, there are plenty of better options here read more

The computer froze. Then my order wouldn't print. Then got to the cashier and she rang me up for fries and I didn't want them. My total was damn near 18 bucks (first meal on vacation) NOT OK. Waited for my meal wrong cheese, gave it back, then they did it wrong again, and then they gave me shredded cheese (btw they charge for that). Soooo mad! Are my food and it was Ok. Mind you I had 6 Burgers and two fries for 22 bucks? It was delicious, tasty, life changing (dads)! Check it out. Oh and I needed pepper NOT salt and she told me to go to the condiments! I walked over and nothing. Mind you this was after the damn LONGGG wait. No pepper and that sucked BC now I'm waiting for pepper for my fries I didn't even want. Ahhhhhhhh I won't be back. Not tasty. Not a good burger spot. They guy needed to season the patties. read more

It's crazy here. Order at an iPad, get a ticket, find a drink, self check out on the other side of the room. Very robotish. No one even says "hi", much less welcome. I ordered the cod sandwich with fries. The crinkle cut fries were OK, not wow. The breaded codfish was underdone and the breading doughy. Yuck. Just an average frozen breaded piece of fish they dipped in hot oil. The bun was good as was the avocado, but the pico de gallo was tasteless. The picture looks much better. I won't try that again. A McDonalds McFish sandwich is much better and less than half the price. to top it off no place to sit and eat your meal. Next time I guess I'll have to try one of the upper crust places. read more

I can not find the location we ordered from on yelp. I posted the receipts below. THIS WAS THE WORST EXPERIENCE MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE EVER HAD!!!!!! We have never used the iPad ordering system and the two girls behind the counter didn't even greet us as we tried our best to figure our way around the system. My husband ended up ordering the wrong burger. We asked for lettuce and tomato, which I guess is called a "custom" burger. We apologized for not ordering the correct one because we had never used that ordering system before. The lady "picture posted below" responds with "I guess you did!" The other burger that we wanted instead WAS THE SAME PRICE! She was not willing to fix it and while she was giving us attitude, the girl next to her was laughing and smiling. We had been flying for hours and were not in the mood for her attitude. So we asked for our money back, gave the food back, and asked for her name. She responds with, "I DON'T HAVE ONE!" Then we asked for a manager and our money back. With my husband's $20 in her hand she says she needs to wait for a manager before she can refund us. While all this was going down another lady stood next to us waiting for her order. She told the girls working that she had never seen such horrible service and that she will not be giving them her business. She walked away in shock how we were being treated. The manager came..... at a snails pace. And did not apologize!! She gave us our money back and that was it. Horrible. Horrible. Horrible ! I literally still cannot believe how we were treated... STAY AWAY! Especially if you see this girl. We never got her name of course. read more

Avoid this food option/restaurant. The employees look bored and totally just interested in what they're doing. My chicken sandwich had a cold bun with a frozen chicken patty and had absolutely no flavor at all. For over $10 you should be able to get a decent basic burger. I found Newark Airport extremely lacking in customer service. The whole system of ordering on an iPad and having to go to another location to pay and then back to the restaurant was totally an annoying. read more

I had an unmemorable cheeseburger here once. But I was passing through Newark recently and had a fried chicken sandwich here that was not bad. The bun was average, sure, and the sauce and pickles sloppily piled on. But the chicken itself was good-- juicy with decently spicy breading. Prices were high, but not as bad as some of the other Newark ripoffs. Employees are slow, indifferent, and borderline rude, but I probably would be too if I was subjugated by iPads. read more

There is nothing custom about "Custom Burger." I ordered a burger and fries without a drink for $14. You have to order on an iPad, so after placing the order I asked them to add pickles to my burger. They said it didn't come with pickles and I could not add them. They should rename it Our Way or the Highway Burger. The burger itself was awful, overcooked, dry and really small for the price paid. Ordered a crispy cod sandwich, they told we don't have fish, so went ahead with chicken sandwich. Had been waiting for 20+ minutes and when I asked them about the order, they took another 5 minutes to tell that they will be working on it now. With my flight leaving soon, I requested cancellation, for which a worker clicked a photo of my receipt and told I would get a refund within 24 hours. However, it has been 5 days, and I have not been refunded a penny. $20 for fast food (sandwich + fries) which takes 30+ minutes to prepare, added with pathetic customer service - This place should be AVOIDED at all costs. read more

WOW!! I read the reviews and yeah, the people working at Custom Burger aren't very social because they're working as fast and best as they can making food for what I saw, at least 30 customers, waiting. I actually had to Google 'Burger Joint in the Newark Airport', where I found Custom Burger, to give them a review after my wife and I ate there, 3 weeks ago. I had to give a review because this was the BEST BURGER we have ever had, besides the 'Cougar Burger', when Cyrus O'Leary's was open, in Spokane, Washington. We had thier BBQ burger with bacon, it was SCRUMPTIOUS!! Again, yes, after we received our order, we had to ask a waiting customer where the condiments were, the workers at Custom Burger were definitely doing everything they could to keep up with all the orders. PLUS(!), with it being hard to find employees now a days, thank you to all of you at Custom Burger for showing up!! I'm eating there every time I stop into Newark! Thank you Custom Burger. read more

Waited over 20 mins for a hot dog. Employees intentionally try to ignore you when you try to get their attention. At first it seems like typical airport food. However, this place is very slow and their staff are untrained. Operation seems to be a mess. The cooker seemed to confuse multiple orders and cook wrongly or serve the wrong order to the customers. My burger took forever to be cooked as the cooker seemed not to know where the ingredients were located at... Definitely not worth ordering from this place! read more

The fries were cold but still edible; they were just sitting in a metal bowl at the back for who knows how long though. Even worse, the lady making the burgers (completely charred black on the outside) forgot half of my toppings. I'd kinda understand if it was a custom burger, but the only customization I did was removing mustard. Who forgets pulled pork from a bbq pulled pork burger?! And I'm pretty sure there was supposed to be bacon, too. All I got was a charred patty, American cheese, fried onions (like the canned ones), and bbq sauce. The fact they're charging $14.50 for that is ridiculous, even for airport food. read more

Well whaddya know, THIS is a GOOD burger! The options for chow in Newark Liberty Int'l (EWR) have considerably improved since my last visit years ago. If ya do the yelp thang, though, you'd think the eateries in Terminal C, C79-99, ALL need the Gordon Ramsey shock therapy. Rumbly tummies still need to be fed, so me & the little man settled with this spot. The other joint with crowds in front in this area was Wabi Sabi. A lil irritating with 3 lines to move through. One for touch screen menus to place your order, then another for the cashier, and finally, shift over for a bit of impatient hovering before the food arrived at "pick up order here." Lookin' around, it appears these touch screens are how a lot of the food vendors here, "interact" with customers. Wave of the future, I guess. We sampled a few things... *BUILD YOUR OWN BURGER: We gots lotsa choices hur!!! Question is, "Are you willing to try it???" Lots of negative yelp vibe to ponder. We put together a single beef for lil man and I rocked a double beef patty. Eerily similar request for caramelized onions and fried egg for add-ons, but he had to have a bit of mushrooms like his moms. I'll pass on the fungus, thanks! ;) Unlike previous yelp reviews, our thick patties were juicy and flavorful , thankfully! Our add-ins were prepared just like we wanted, and together it turned out to be some mighty fine burgers! Surprisingly good for Airport options. :) *CRINKLE FRIES: Its the classic version, with a crispy exterior and flaky soft innards. Yum! No greasy sogginess with this batch. It's a good size for one, but NOT when you share with 5 mouths! *FRIED MEAN BEANS: Beans were a little on the greasy side, but the batter was still crunchy. Nothing special. *DOUBLE STUF OREO & CREAM SHAKE: My young squires could not keep their traps off this! Skull veins were poppin' out, cuz they were trying to get as much as possible on their turn, sheesh! The REALLY cool part about our experience here, was the customer service. Lil man is entering his goofy klutzy adolescent years. So as he's picking up his burger for the first bite, the WHOLE THING DROPS to the floor!!! Parents give the "WTH?!?" face, he's got the boo boo face, yet fortunately, the other witness was the CB staff member who was bringing our Oreo shake to our table. Without hesitation, this cool chap says some comforting remarks, then shortly after, returns with another burger of the same design!!! What a pleasant surprise with this act of kindness IN Newark, NJ! Was not expecting that! THANKS for the hook up! I'm a fan now! read more

It's very pricy for a burger but it's at the airport so I guess it's on par with other restaurants in the food court. You order on the iPad and pay at another station, all computerized. Top 3 worst airport food I have ever eaten. Top 2 worst chicken wings I have ever encountered anywhere. Stand in line to make your order via the iPad looking screens in the counter. Once you make the order, go to the cashiers who rather talk to each other or, even better, talk or text in their personal phones while screaming (and I mean, screaming) "anyone in line to pay!" By the way, when you pay the cashiers, they are supposed to give you the drink you order and already paid for but because they are so busy chatting, texting or screaming, they skip that step. More on this in a moment.... Then go and stand at the end of the counter where one lonely guy yells your order number. As he is the only guy dispensing the food, the burgers are coming out fast but he can't keep up with the pace. And because he also has to get the fries, onion rings and side dishes (which are located in the other side of the counter from where he is standing), everything gets backed up even more. Burgers keep pilling up and he has to go to the back room to get more supplies.... And the burgers keep pilling up.... And when you don't hear the number, he screams even louder. However, I noticed that Customers keep coming back with problems with their orders. More of a backup. Finally, after what it seemed an eternity my number gets called. When I picked up my order I said "I need my Mountain Dew" to which he responds "you got to get that from the cashier". I go back to the cashiers and said "can I have my Mountain Dew?" to which they both say: "wait a moment" and both scream "anyone else to pay?" Another 5 mins or so I get my drink. Made to wait unnecessarily. Custom Burger has one of the worst and most horrible service etiquette I've experienced in a very long time. While the food had good flavor, the burger was no bigger then the palm of my hand (about $8) and got only 5 onion rings ($5 or about $1 an onion ring). You won't find me here anytime soon... Or ever.... read more

I placed my order and stood around watching the line cook make the food. He grabbed the raw hamburgers and separated them on the grill, then without removing his gloves, flipped other burgers with the spatula, then went over to the vegetables and added the tomato, lettuce on top of the hamburgers, without removing his gloves. I told another employee in the food kiosk area and she had me mention this to the manager. He thanked me for bringing it to my attention and walked over to his employee and said something to him. The manager asked if I still wanted my order and said he would make it for me himself. My flight was leaving in a few minutes so I said that was fine. The burger itself was actually pretty decent and considering it was an airport and under $10 was probably a better deal than most other airport food. It wasn't until I got on the plane that I realized the manager didn't swap out the vegetables, so the lettuce and tomatoes on my burger were the same that had been handled after the line cook touched the raw burgers. Not sure why the super low rating. It's airport food, so going in I had pretty low expectations. But this place was alright! I ordered a bacon cheeseburger on the iPad at the counter. I didn't mean to order fries, but I did. So watch out for that. I wanted tots, so I added those. My food took a solid 5-10 minutes. During my wait I went to another iPad to pay my bill, I collected mustard, utensils and napkins and I was even able to get the attention of the cook and request that my burger have no bun. The burger was nothing life-changing, but it came out hot and as I ordered it. Both the fries and tots were very good. read more
