This is one of the only two restaurants in the international B terminal. It has a super cute ambience and it was quite packed. There were only two employees working the entire restaurant apart from the cook, and I am so impressed by their hustle and good attitudes. Belgium beer cafe is a place to order mediocre food, eat and await your flight. The window seats gets a decent view of planes taking off and it's close to gate B. ( At the time of this review, it was one of two restaurants for terminal B). The food is not excellent but edible. The service was prompt and polite. One lady sat and staggered ordered a beer, a coffee, and fries. And she sat there for two hours. Do this if you want your waiters to hate you and you have time to kill. The Food: The beef stew was rough bits of beef chuck, and rubbery baby carrots. It tasted like someone made a 5 min stew with precooked beef and beer and dried herbs. It tasted better with salt. The sausage was decent. It was the best part of this meal. Salad was ok, but some pieces were limp. Potatoe salad had bits of tomatoes in it. Despite the food, this pub/restaurant was packed and it took us 15 minutes to hunt down seats. Definitely come for the people watching. Don't expect the best quality food or best priced. Highway robbery; only two restaurants here in gates B53-58 (you can't access the rest of the terminal) so not much of a choice. I ordered a turkey club that was supposed to come with bacon on multi-grain toast. They literally gave it to me on untoasted white wonder bread. No bacon. The food at the Belgium Beer Cafe is extremely overpriced and absolutely horrible. $22 for a Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich that had no peppers, mushrooms or onions, a meniscal amount of meat and cheese on a hard piece of bread. The French Fries were served cold and soggy. There is nothing to like or good to say about this place. Do yourself and the HMS Host company a favor and don't eat at the Belgium Beer Cafe in Terminal B. The food quality sucks, staff non-existent and high prices. We had some time to kill before our flight & wanted to grab some food & drinks this place seems to be one of the only restaurants available. the place was packed but we got lucky & found a seat towards the back part better than at the bar only because u get to watch the planes. Drinks I started with a Duvel beer good beer nice taste, next I had the La Chouffe also great as well. Food we had the Cheese plate & Beef skewers , beef skewers were very good nicely season beef great truffle mayo dipping sauce. Cheese plate was good as well, delicious beer cheese & good salami good with the bread but a little on the filling side would be better if they used crackers instead of bread. This place is sad. This is exactly why airports have bad reps for food spots. The menu was lacking. Everything sounded just disinteresting enough to make you question what you read that made to pick this spot to eat at in the first place. Settled on their seafood bisque. Inedible. I tried. I got a couple scoops in and I had to tell the waitress to take it away. I told her I know it's not her fault and to let the kitchen know it's horrible. All cheese, no flavor, consistency was comparable to vomit. Blended up no bits of any decipherable fish. Her response: "well they don't cook anything back there. It comes in a bag and they just microwave it." Oh good. Thank god. Ok glad I paid almost $15 for microwaved vomit slop. read more

My flight to Iceland got delayed 3 hours so I decided to stuff my face at the first restaurant I saw. Here are my thoughts. Pros -Near your gate (if your gate is B50-B57 -Decent selection of Belgian beers on draft: La Chouffe, Duval, Palm, Leffe. -Grilled chicken sandwich and fries were ok. Cons -Our waitress dropped our food off and then disappeared (In her defense, she owned up to it and apologized unprompted). -Mussels were a bit rubbery and many of them were not fresh. -Expect to pay around $15 for a sandwich and $12-$16 for a beer or a glass of wine. BEWARE. My tip amount was increased! I almost always leave 20%. I used to be a waitress so I understand how little they are paid in base pay - and how much one can earn with enough customers who order enough food :). Anyway, it took forever to get service and I was served my $30 (low-quality, overpriced) meal with plastic cutlery so I felt like it was more of a mix between fast food and restaurant service and as such, I gave a tip of 15% (which also included my $10 canned beer). This bar is the worst! The prices are ridiculous and the staff is beyond rude. All beers are differently and overly priced although the Stella is bigger than the others. When asked to change the channel on the tv, one employee said he didn't have the expertise (!!) and another said the remote batteries are dead. Wow. Pretty lame. I don't even know how you fuck up a rib-eye steak. It was entirely tasteless throughout, and the texture didn't convince me that it was a steak. You can argue that they're understaffed but the fact of the matter is that the service just simply disappears from the entire restaurant for 15 minutes at a time. The Unusual Times down the hall has equally awful reviews (even though I've never been) so I recommend the Hudson News. Normally I get extremely irritated when my flight is delayed., but a couple hours in this Belgian themed haunt, and I was smiling ear to ear. You get what you get with airport food. That's to be expected. Regardless of the name or the menu items, it's still half-assed food from the lowest bidding contract and you're grossly overcharged. It's a fact of life. Accept it and let's move on to what makes this place decent. First and most important: I love Belgian beer. The existence of an airport restaurant with a very respectable Belgian beer selection, on tap and in bottles, is amazing. It sets them apart, and made this the idea place to spend a 4-hour layover before an overnight flight to London. Second, this is the only place in this arm of the terminal where you're going to find any quiet or secluded area. All of the other food sources are in the large open circle near the gates. For a bit of quiet, adequate food, and a glimpse into what Belgium has to offer, this is the absolute best option. read more

I ordered the Carbonade - welsh beef stew. They also didn't give me potatoes...which are supposed to go with the stew. I decided against asking for them because I wasn't that hungry but...they hopped me on their own. The service is friendly but relatively absent. The beer list is pretty good with the exception that the one beer I wanted on draft wasn't available...of course. Anyway I'm typically a sucker for Belgian beer and food unless I can create the same meal from a New York deli for 30 dollars less. Very solid burger. They claim it was Wagyu now that's definitely a stretch but it was certainly angus at a minimum. Came on a decent brioche bun with what I call "freezer fries". The burger was quite good considering EWR may just have the worst food selection of any international airport I have been to. In the B terminal this is definitely the best eatery and prices are fair - $26 plus tip for burger and a glass of screw top cabinet Sauvignon wine. read more

Expect 12-20 dollar top notch Belgian beers given to you at room temperature! It's an airport bar, so don't expect much in the way of service, other than a complimentary fondling (searching) if you're being too rowdy. They're just outside of the TSA/customs checkpoint and the only place that serves alcohol. Get drunk before you fly. It makes the experience better. Especially in steerage class. read more
