About what you'd expect from airport food. I tried the custom veggie burger, which comes with marinara and mozzarella cheese. It was pretty awful. Veggie patty thrown on a grill (but still cold by the time I got it), with an untoasted bun, a chunk of mozzarella, and some awful marinara sauce. I didn't even finish it. The entire set up makes you really really want a burger. And the snazzy ordering system where you select what you want via tablet and can make customizations to your burger is pretty on point.... But the delivery? Man oh man do you feel deceived afterwards. They show you a picture of onion strings with thin batter and what you end up with are those huge breaded onion rings that come from some big frozen food producer. The burgers look so much better in the picture compared to the half-assed burger that's lop-sidedly put together for you. The tablet gives you the option of ordering your burger medium vs well...well, I ordered a medium and THAT didn't happen. I think this is a case of overselling and under-delivering. Below average burgers. I've yet to come across any restaurant in an airport I've wanted to rave about because of their awesome food. This place supports my case that you can't really find anything good to eat in an airport so be sure to set your expectations low. I ended up getting the burger with blue cheese & bacon and tater tots. The burger itself was pretty small and was relatively dry. There was only a skimpy portion of blue cheese and the bacon was really thin, flimsy and pathetic. The tater tots, however, were actually pretty decent. They were a little too oily but still had a nice crunch. The food is definitely overpriced for the value/what you're getting. But it doesn't seem like the other restaurants around here are any better. I probably won't be back. read more

Decent burgers - my personal favorite is the Ciao Torino (it's veggie). Service is rather poor (minus two stars). You have to enter your order in their station containing a row of tablets. After that you pay to the cashier presenting your order ticket. Then the wait begins ....... 5 to 20 minutes : depending on how many customers there are and how motivated the grill crew are. I've have also tried their staple burger - the Americana which is really just a glorified Micky D burger. Looks like a cool spot to order a burger! The user interface for the app maybe didn't actually do any testing. I had tried to make a burger from the menu display and it was not working out. Got my food order texted in 7-8 mins, just walked a few steps away after collecting it and noticed the bun was stone cold and the patty was barely luke warm. I showed the lady at the counter and she made a big deal about it, rolled her eyes and made excuses. I was really quite irritated with her behavior and felt like explaining the ABC of customer service. They took it in the back and heated it up, it took maybe 3-4 mins and the lady at the counter told me to wait at the back of the queue. When she called my number again, no eye contact... No apology. It's an edible if sloppily assembled burger (mine: single patty, cheddar, lettuce, tomatoes, ketchup, mayo, mustard). Fries are elementary school grade. Raspberry lemonade is ok. All this for $21 and change... If you don't order a combo toppings are extra, from $1 for cheese slice to $1.50 for bacon. Not worth it even for airport food and if your starving the single party barley does it. So a little La Guardia Airport Terminal C tip. Keep walking past the food court with the Biergarten and Custom Burgers, just past all this was a much more edible smelling Italian spot called Cotto, looked like decent portions for a similar price as my $21 burger and lemonade. read more

I can almost see how this began... a visionary with a dream of affordable cooked-to-order burgers. He/she came up with an interesting menu with some classic favorites and interesting foodie combinations, secured a spot in the Newark Terminal C location, applied a solid Manhattan aesthetic, had someone code an iPad-powered burger ordering app for the front end, and as the final touch, organized an impressive array of condiments, turned the cash register on... and walked away. This place could be awesome if anyone behind the counter could be bothered. But there's no wayfinding, so customers are milling about, blocking the order kiosks, trying to figure out where the line is among all the people waiting for their orders. The kiosks don't allow you to order anything actually custom, unless you can hack in and reprogram it. The drone working the register only processes what comes out of the kiosk, but can't/won't do substitutions or add-ons. The guy on the grill probably got fired from his previous job as a zombie movie extra because he was moving too slowly. I felt so bad for him, he looked like a lost soul bereft of hope, trapped in slow-time, unable to multitask or do anything beside the next single process. Final result? Order from a list of ten burgers, watch it be prepared in slow motion for the next 25-40 minutes, try not to miss your connecting flight. Probably the exact opposite of the original intent. This place is okay by airport food standards. The set up is nice. One walks up to the counter and places one's order on an iPad. A ticket is printed and then one steps down to the cashier to pay. Food was ready pretty quickly. I had the Swiss cheese and mushroom burger which was okay. The bun was a little dry. The burger was not very big (about the size of a shake shack burger but not as good). The crinkle fries were a bit old (not freshly made) as they were a little dry as well. If I were to compare this place to shake shack, this place does not compare. But it is okay for airport food. read more

Please for the love of God don't go here if you have any brain at all. The food is overpriced. It may look cheap but everything you add is an additional $. You want tomatoes? $1. You want lettuce? More money please. The food isn't that great either to warrant the money. Oh and I haven't even gotten to the workers. They don't pay attention to you, they just talk to each other about their pregnant friends. Not only that but they refused to give me tap water claiming they ran out of cups for water. They can't give me a drink cup because you know, I could potentially hop the counter and steal their drinks from the drink fountain behind the counter. Worst place ever. They don't have the one items on the menu, keep taking orders and changing them to what they want, and are super slow. Avoid at all costs. I think at large this is a failure of the automation happening at this terminal. Badly organized and incredibly slow. Several people walked away after waiting in line to order, because they hadn't noticed the 3 iPads stationed off to the right, and you can't pay or order at the cash register unless you've ordered at the iPads. Line flows right-to-left (iPad to cash register to waiting area for order pickup), which only adds to the confusion because in western culture things tend to flow left-to-right in these situations. But hey, who am I to second guess when the chaos this place has created might be some subversive kind of art form. I finally walked away without my milkshake AFTER I'd paid for it, because they kept telling me "just a couple more minutes." Had a plane to catch, and never thought a shake could take 10 minutes to create. Won't be back. read more

Worst experience I've ever had at an airport, after initial confusion on how the order and payment process worked they took OVER 30 mins to even start making my order. After asking and them screaming to the kitchen the person working the front just stared at me and moved to finish another order thy was after mine so I had to leave because I was about to miss my flight. This review is for food only. I thought long and hard if the food is 1 or 2 stars. I am giving them 2 stars only because they use Martin's potato buns (just like Shake Shack). Everything else is one star. Possibly the worst burger I had in a very long time. I ordered my burger medium - which is an option when you are asked to build your custom burger. The patties were burnt hockey pucks. Almost inedible. Horrible. I observed the line cook pressing the living soul, with a spatula, out of, what appeared to be, already over-done burgers. The meat was under-seasoned (I would even go so far to say not seasoned at all), completely bland and tasteless. Other ingredients were also mediocre at best. Good looking menu but not executed well at all. Order system was fine and a minor annoyance to pay and just have the person ask if it was indeed what I wanted. Ordered the green chile and avocado burger. A quarter of an avocado came in the burger but not sliced, so that went poorly. Forgot the green chile on my burger as well. As noted in other reviews, only one person does frying and dispensing orders. So my burger sat for 10 minutes before my fried pickles were ready. They had to "go find someone" who could fry pickles. The pickles came straight out of the fryer and into the container so when I got them to my table they were swimming in oil. Tasty once I got them drained. Burger was ok but not great. The ordering process at this airport is really convenient with tablets that you can order whatever is in the terminal and they'll deliver your food. I only wish I had read the reviews before spending so much money on burgers that were small, lukewarm, and improperly made. We ordered three custom burgers, and they messed up the order three times. In the end the kids didn't finish them, and I was tired of sending them back. Who manages this place? Good burger! Horrible Service! If you are at EWR airport Terminal C at 6pm on May 27 avoid this place. Made the mistake of asking the "chef" how to make simple changes like adding sliced onion to my avacado burger (not allowed). He made it clear he really had no interested in dealing with the public he was cooking front of. He indicated mostly through gestures (I'm not sure he ever actually uttered a single word or answered a single question with words) that I could do it all on the tablet where you place the order. Wrong! Told me to get an attendant to show me. Nope they couldn't figure it out. Then one of the workers who puts the burger together came out. She was able to prove my point for me. She agreed with me that you have to ask the employees (who look and act like they are being totally put out) if you need anything like ketchup, peppers, pickles, lettuce, whatever). It got a little loud. I yelled "Tell HIM (the chef) how the process works." All the customers around me started agreeing with and saying "your right" it's Not at all possible to make a "custom" burger at Custom Burger. This one anyway. To the chef who has zero interest in customers service, dude...if you hate your job just quit. But don't take it out on people who are already stressed out at the airport. When we placed an order and printed it, an item wasn't available. Our choice? Redo the entire order ourselves. Staff was very rude to almost ever customer.
