Came for an art opening last night. The space is small, but manages to use all of it's wall space so that it could show many works. The space fit at least 30 people at once and it had an open bar. Loved the work by the featured artist, Anna Bondoc, too. During regular hours Curve Line also frames art work, so I'm going to check it out for that next time I need something framed. Tim Yalda is the man here. During the day, Curve Line is a top of the end framing shop. With his sharp eye for design and detail, he can make anything you bring in comparable to the Mona Lisa. (without the bullet proof glass....) During the night, this becomes the Curve Line Space, where the hottest music that's been brewing in LA come, and rightfully so, blow your mind. While listening, take a gander at the current artwork hanging up (this changes daily). Nick Mancini who is in charge of the musical end of this does a fantastic job emceeing and running the show. Make sure to check out the line up online. Get there early, because seats fill up fasttttt! All events are donation based, and there's free wine and beer. (yes...free), but please do go out and support the local musicians. I can't imagine having artwork framed anywhere else. Tim is not only a master, he is *so much fun* to work with. I've engaged in friendly argument with him about color, tone, etc. -- and dangnabbit, he's always right!! His son and colleague Cyrus is an exceptional person who is equally talented, with an amazing work ethic. My only beef with Tim is that he should charge more! But I'm so grateful for his generosity. There are too many good things to say about Tim at Curved Line Space. His pricing is fair and honest. He never tries to upsell. He works with you to design something beautiful that will fit your art and your budget. He has a fantastic eye for what goes well with a piece and offers excellent advice as to matte colors, frames and glass. Framing art is an art itself and he really knows his stuff. For example if a particular piece is bottom heavy he'll cheat the matte ever so slightly to give it better balance. And of course everything they do at Curved Line Space is quality workmanship. I'm updating this review because Tim followed-up with me after reading my yelp review. I was not expecting that at all. I have to give credit where it is due. Tim sincerely wants to provide 100% satisfaction to me (and to all of his customers). He addressed my frustration and clarified the miscommunication. He offered to rectify the situation by giving me a few options that would make me happy. I appreciate his gesture and will accept one of his options that I think is fair for both parties. He did offer an option that I think is definitely more to his detriment; however, I'm reasonable and don't want to take advantage of the situation. But just the offer alone goes to show his good character to make a customer whole. Again, his woodwork is definitely excellent. I am so glad that I followed the advice of the other yelpers here and took my art to Tim at Curve Line Space. First of all, Tim is incredibly friendly and immediately puts you at ease. He makes sure to give you and your art his full attention so you can find the absolute perfect frame for your piece. Really, I don't think he would be satisfied until you find THE one. And you will know it when you do! Plus, he has an incredible amount of stock to choose from, so there's no reason why you wouldn't find "the one." When I picked up my piece, it was absolutely perfect. Everything. He had even offered to cut it slightly so that the border wouldn't be wider than the frame. And he did. Tim Yalda is a artist himself so he understands it is about the artwork. 2. No cheesey frame finishing, overly decorated or elaborately faux thing-a-ma-giggy that is glued onto the frame as part of another elaborate decor 3. It's right across the street from Trader Joes 4. No cheesy matt colors or matting decor, you know, those crazy elaborate matt cutting that has a million layers before you see the actual artwork. 5. Because Tim is an artist himself and having exquisite taste, he is one of the few that I will entrust my art with. 6. Tim sees the beauty in each artwork and tries to compliments the piece with sophisticated hues on both the frame and the matting so the primary focus is your ARTWORK not the freaking elaborate matt cutting technique, the crazy frame style or the constrasty matt color. 7. Tim is so detail oriented that he will take in consideration of the width of the frames to achieve a harmonious presentation between your artwork and the framing. 8. Tim is really creative with his framing techique. For example if you have a really cool nice little 4x5 sketching or pencil and ink artwork. He can float the image on the backing of your frame with no matt board to help accent how precious this little gem you've purchased and show off it's real beauty. I made some new work that I wanted to frame but I wasnt sure if I needed a window matt or a metal or wood frame or what style, I called a friend who reccomeneded Tim, he described Tim as having a keen aesthetic and that maybe he would advise me on how to present my work. I called him and brought the work there to show him. Tim showed me options and clearly talked about the pros and cons of each. I learned a lot at that meeting. I agreed with his suggestions he was right on, I left 2 pieces to get framed, they looked great! perfect craftmanship and very clean. 2 days later I left 3 more pieces great job. I was so pleased with the results that I ended up bringing in a bunch of pieces I'd had framed elsewhere for him to redo for me. Now nearly all of the art in my house has been framed by him. I'd feel confident just bringing him a piece and trusting him to design the best frame and matting for it without any input from me - he has a great eye. I went to Tim on a professor's recommendation to get my senior show professionally framed. Not only did Tim spend a generous amount of time with me to come up with the proper frame options, but also he worked with my budget. In the end, I decided to even go a step up in the quality of the work that I was doing by deciding to double the thickness of the mounting material for longevity. Tim wasn't the cheapest -- but not by much. Yet his technique, materials, and process were all far superior to what the competition was offering. The best part? I had a deadline in two weeks and 30 several-foot-long panoramic, irregular-sized pieces to have custom framed, mounted, laminated, etc. Tim did everything in four days once the materials came in -- well, he and Alfredo, of course. While visiting just to see Alfredo is well worth it, you can count on the work, too. More than impressive.... Try finding that hustle elsewhere... Just took a gifted photographic print to him this afternoon to have framed so it would stay nice. Tim knows I'm all the way down in Orange County and all but insisted I stay while Alfredo fixed it up for me so I could take home the finished piece in 20 minutes without having to come back! I went there after reading the many reviews posted in Yelp; also, they are very close to where I live. So I took my newest print there, picked out the frame and mat. It was much pricier than I anticipated from the listings. The piece is about 2' by 2', and I expected the total for framing would be more in the $300 range (especially after framing many Dali's, Howel's, Pena's etc over 20 years. I was surprised at the almost $500 price for framing, staining of the wood, mat, acid free paper, etc. But I wanted to see it thru. They did explain that they were running a bit behind; but after over a month, I thought it best to check to see how it was going...if it was going... I finally picked it up, and the work is really good. Not sure it's worth 5 big ones. I would change that $$ to $$$. Just saying. And they are QUITE hard to reach. read more

Highly recommended! We feel lucky to have a local artisanal framing shop with amazing customer service nearby. We had some older prints that were in dire need of new mattes and framing glass but we wanted to keep the frames which were very unique. We had called around to other local framers who turned us down flatly, telling us that it would take too much effort to keep the old frames. When we approached Tim, not only was he willing to try restore the frames (which did take a lot of effort and time) but his design and archival recommendations were spot on and the final results were spectacular. Tim is friendly, knowledgable, fun to hang with, and above all, is serious about his craft. I gave Tim the unusual task of framing a butterfly specimen I had been keeping and though the poor thing had a hard time surviving the framing process, Tim's care never faltered. We met a couple times to discuss how best to showcase it, building the frame a little more each step of the way. He always listened closely and offered his own perspective. You know how you read a bunch of 5 star reviews on Yelp and you wonder if they're written by family members? Well, I just met Tim for the first time and i couldn't be happier with his service and his good taste. Following a glowing recommendation from a co-worker, I brought in a print that needed to match an existing pair of framed prints. Tim spent an hour with me finding just the right frame, and when the perfect fit didn't seem available, he offered to take an existing frame and treat the color slightly. I was already happy with his service, and then was blown away by the price. I was quoted $285 MORE at Fast Frame for a similar frame. And if that weren't enough, when I picked up the finished piece yesterday, Tim had even built out an additional border around the frame so the width would match the others.
