I ventured over to Curry Point Express on a Sunday staying in the area and needing some food. I like the premise of the place, a kind of fast food Indian establishment. I figured I'd give it a try. The service was great, I navigated the menu and had a sample which was delicious. I ordered the 2 entree and 2 side special. That included some Naan bread and some veggie rice. The food is tasty, but lacks some refined flavor. It certainly was welcome when I needed to find food outside of the hotel I was staying at. The service was 5 star. Not a bad little cheap budget tasty nice wet Curry House (nice and wet, hmm) in the Triangle area, and one which just about deserves five stars for the tasty curry which could have used a little extra spice - and also for the excellent service. I'm a big fan of Indian food, especially British Indian style, but I do not like the U.S. bland Americanized variety. I am new to the area coming from Houston, TX, where there are plenty good authentic Pakistani/Indian restaurants and I wanted to see what they had over in RTP. I went here to today for lunch and I was honestly very disappointed. They were out of chicken in the chicken biryani. Not a huge problem so I went for the lamb one instead with the chicken tikka masala. My friends didn't get any naan because they ran out after me. I went to get a fountain drink but both the tea containers were dispensing water. Okay, not another huge issue, I'll get a lemonade instead. Nope, water again. I tried the Pepsi next and there was no carbonation in it so I settled for the water unfortunately. But my food was absolutely awful. The rice was crunchy. The naan was as flat as a roti and burnt and was tasteless. The chicken tikka masala tasted so citrusy it felt like I was eating a horribly cooked orange chicken dish from Panda Express. You can look at the picture below, the goat was completely black with a terrible texture and had no flavor to it all. I couldn't eat this food and just threw it away and wasted my money. DO NOT EAT HERE. I am Pakistani and I can tell you that this food is not authentic at all! Just look at the other recent reviews if you don't believe me. Came here on recommendations from friends. I wasn't disappointed. They have a really good selection of different dishes. Nitesh was very helpful in giving me samples to try. I wanted spicy and hot, so he let me try the Chicken Vandaloo. It had a full-bodied curry flavor, but I didn't think it was that hot. For about a minute !! It made my nose run. Really kicked in. The butter chicken was sugary sweet, the biryani was full of whole peppercorn and cloves and had a very bitter taste, and the saag paneer was so bland and flat. I love the point-and-serve concept for Indian food! It's fast, hot, and fresh, which I love in a lunch place. This place is pretty scarce on atmosphere, but come noontime on a weekday it's packed to the gills. Nevertheless, they get you through here fast. You can do a 1, 2, or 3 entree lunch plate, or a trio built around a biryani and naan dish with 1 entree. Something to note here, I suppose it's Western vs Eastern - *veggies are not sides*. For example, Okra curry and Cauliflower korma are entrees, not sides, and rightly so. The okra curry was my standout favorite, far and above any of the chicken dishes I've gotten lately. Sides only include rice, naan, or steamed blah vegetables (it seems they very likely microwaved a bag of green giant steamables here). So to get a true sample, you'll want to do the three entree to get a Western plate of meat, one yellow veggie, and one green veggie. "Fast Indian food, cafeteria style" Came here with my family on a Saturday night for dinner after having read the many positive reviews. The location looks like a standard strip-mall fast food place-- like a Japan Express or equivalent-- with perhaps just a bit more seating. The dishes that are available are in tubs behind glass, and the hostess serves you a plate of what you request. There were dishes of 1 entree + 1 side, 2 entrees + 2 side, and 3 entrees + 2 sides ($9.99). There were also even larger "thali" choices, and one can make any meal a combo (with drink and dessert) for an extra $1.99. Since it's cafeteria-style, there's no tip on credit card purchases, so the prices are pretty low. I ordered the 3 entrees + 2 sides as a meal with aloo gobi, okra curry, chicken tikka masala, naan, and veg rice, as a meal (thus with gulab jamoon and a fountain drink) for $11.99. There were many other choices that looked good, too, so I'd happily go back to try others. They also had mango lassis for $2.99, though I didn't get one. Positives: Speed-- assuming what you want is ready, you get your food on the spot. No waiting at all. Quantity-- a ton of food. I didn't quite finish my dinner, and I was stuffed. Value-- what I got was quite cheap for a dinner. Affordable for smaller portions, too. Cleanliness of store-- mostly fine. Tables all seemed clean. Men's restroom was clean but out of soap, but I think she refilled it when I brought it up. Quality-- decent. Not the best Indian food I've had, but certainly not the worst either. The dishes I had were all a bit spicy-- not so much to be painful but enough to give some zing. Negatives: Temperature-- some of my dishes were not as hot in temperature as I would have preferred. The naan was barely warm. Dessert / meal-deal-- I thought this was not as good a deal as the rest of what we bought. We each got literally one gulab jamoon ball (small enough to easily fit into your mouth in one bite) and a fountain soft drink for an extra $1.99. The picture on the wall showed a bowl with two gulab jamoon balls for the meal-deal, and even that would've been on the small side for dessert. Maybe pass on the meal deal, get water, and then try the new doughnut place next door that's opening soon. Synopsis: If closer to where we lived, I'm sure we'd go back a lot. I have eaten here 2-3 times and I truly love their food. Up until this past weekend I had only eaten here for lunch, but I got to take my husband here for dinner after using Yelp for a 'nearby' search and realizing they were open for dinner (!!!) (This is hard to find in RTP,...everyone closes up shop at 3pm like everyone who lives here wants to eat at Cheesecake Factory.. girrrrlbye.) Anyhow, they are very reasonably priced and they have most menu items out on display (like this used to be a Subway?) in bins so you can SEE what you're ordering, which for me, is nice. It's like a buffet but not a buffet. The reason I'm deducting a star is for ambiance. The ambiance straight up sucks. They have pendant lights but rather than use them at night they just keep those nasty fluorescent overhead lights on (eww, again, I think it used to be a Subway or something). I thought the express lunch/dinner would be a good option because prices seemed very reasonable. Your options are one entree and one side for $7, two entrees and two sides for $8.50, and three entrees and two sides for $10. I went with the first option and got rice with veggies and saag paneer. (Other "sides" include plain rice and naan.) Portions were small to medium size, but closer to small. Even for $7, I didn't feel like I was actually getting a good deal because my saag paneer was only filled three-quarters of the way (barely) and in a small styrofoam bowl. (The amount shown in the photo is how much they gave me.) So I wouldn't recommend the one entree one side option if you're really hungry. The two entree two side option is probably the better deal, but again, don't expect large portions at all. The samosas were large though and only $1.50 each. We've eaten here a few times and it's a hit or miss for me. The chicken vindaloo, butter chicken and Tikka Masala are great. The palak paneer is pureed to the point of baby food which disturbs me. If I could do 3.5 stars, I'd give it that. The lunch options overwhelm me. How many items? Do I make it a meal since I'm getting a drink? Does the Thali only add pickles, raita and dal? Is biryani a meal option or side? The lines are long so I always feel like I need to decide quickly. I wanted Dosa today and had gotten it before at lunch but today they were to busy to accommodate it. Understandable, I suppose. We had a nice pakoda with our meal and Naan which we enjoyed. I miss the onion relish of the buffets as well as salads. It's a different and very popular Indian dining option and seems to stay busy. We will be back but not during peak times. I've been here a few times now, as they are close to my office, and the food seems to be reasonably solid. Everything I've had has been flavorful and well-spiced, and the value for what you get is pretty good. Portions are reasonable at about 8 fl oz for each "entree" portion, and each of their "express" meals includes up to 3 entrees and 2 sides (naan, rice, veggies). The dining area is simple and perfunctory, with little in the way of ambiance or decor. Fine for stopping in with some friends or coworkers, but not a place to take a date or client. On my first visit, I discovered that they don't generally have everything on the menu available for purchase. Seems that they have rotating availability on the entrees, so don't expect to be able to get chicken korma just because it's on the menu; you won't know what your options are until you're standing in front of the counter. I'm generally satisfied with the food, but I did encounter something odd with the goat curry today: bones. Maybe I'm just ignorant, and maybe its traditional to cook and serve goat curry with bits of bones in it, but I found it a little off-putting as I chomped down onto things that were very much unchewable, and I can't help but feel a bit cheated as these bones were taking up valuable space in the cup that to-go entrees are provided in. I'd give them a solid 3.5 stars, but I'll round up to four given that maybe my dissatisfaction with the goat curry is the result of my own ignorance. Who knows. Hidden gem that I didn't realize existed literally 2 blocks from me! Had a craving for Indian food and naturally jumped onto Yelp and discovered this place. This place is essentially a place of fast (and good!) Indian food. All of the dishes are pre cooked and laid out for you to see behind the counter. For 3 entrees and 2 sides it cost $9.99!! And each entree is a pint of food! Saag paneer is one of my favorite dishes of all time regardless of where I get it from, and it was very good here. It could be a tad bit creamier. Chole had a nice kick spice to it and was sweet as well. All the dishes I had were very well made and by no means have that watery texture to it. The sauces were rich but not too buttery or heavy as tasty Indian food can have a tendency to get. I don't know if the great price is biasing me to believe the food is better than it is, but regardless this has just become my go to place if I want solid Indian food, and I want solid Indian food fast!! read more

I was picking up deliveries here pretty frequently so I decided to give the restaurant a try and the food for the quality and the price is outstanding. The value is actually unreal in my opinion. The food is incredibly flavorful, the staff are so helpful especially if you aren't familiar with their menu, I haven't had anything that wasn't delicious. I've taken a couple of my friends here and they are all so impressed with the food quality and price. The service is amazing and Covid precautions are definitely in place. I recommend this restaurant for anyone who is in the triangle! It's actually become one of my favorites and Im now a regular. I do agree that the place is clean, service is friendly, the combos offer great value for money, and the spice level is appropriately high, but unfortunately I was disappointed with everything I ordered: the naan was flat and stale, the tadka dal had way too much garlic, the aloo gobi was all aloo and no gobi, and the lamb rogan josh was definitely mutton and not lamb! I've dined in or had takeout from Curry Point a couple of times. For quick, convenient Indian food, this place definitely hits the spot. It's not bad...but it's not great either. It's just okay. Personally, I find some of the curries too sweet, and the naan bread is always tough and stale. Mango lassi was meh. The food temperature could be a hotter, too. When I order the 2 entree 2 side combo, I'll typically have leftovers, so it's not a bad value at all. I'll keep going here as I want to keep exploring their menu. read more

If you're looking for filling portions of Indian comfort food in a hurry, Curry Point Express does exactly what it says on the tin. You can be in and out in as much time as it takes for you to decide what to order from their many meat and vegetarian prepared choices, or you can linger and order off the extensive full menu instead. The food is flavourful without having enough heat to disturb a more delicate palate (I wouldn't mind a bit more, honestly) and unlike some places it isn't too salty. If you're in a hurry or can't decide what you want, they offer express combination meals with your choice of 1-3 mains, 1-3 sides, and a pakora on top! The place isn't fancy - it's very much set up for quick, convenient meals and takeaway - but it's clean and the staff are patient and helpful. Of course there will be restaurants that are more elegant/more 'authentic' to one person's culinary experience/more whatever, but one could say that about almost anywhere that serves food. I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food here. The name of the restaurant might make you think of bastardized Indian food that you'd find at a mall food court. However, the entrees are actually on par with what you'd get at other sit-down Indian restaurants in the area. I came at lunch when they offer various combos -- I selected the 2 entrees and 2 sides. For my entrees, I ordered the Saag Paneer and the Spicy Chicken Curry. The chicken curry was actually quite spicy and certainly spicier than you'd expect to find on any buffet. The Saag Paneer was thick and flavorful (not watered down like you find at some places). The choices for sides are naan, veggie rice, plain rice, and steamed veggies -- I ordered the veggie rice and steamed veggies. They also offer some free sauces/chutneys. Food is pretty good. I much rather eat at a place like this as opposed to a buffet for two reasons. One, you don't need to tip the staff (good for keeping lunch tabs in check), and second because you fall into that "I got to get my money's worth" trap with buffets, and end up in a food coma by 2pm and a highly unproductive afternoon in the office. Curry Point Express is my savior in a sea of sad lunch options near my new office park. I love Indian food, so any Indian restaurant would please me. But this one makes lunchtime even more magnificent by offering incredible combo deals that allow you to sample an array of entrees, dished up on demand, at a killer price. All of this would be merely lackluster if the food were akin to a Chinese mall counter service stop. But the distinguishing fact (and reason for my five stars) is that the food is unequivocally awesome. I've had the chili chicken, saag paneer, curry, vindaloo, and korma -- each of them has a mild-to-moderate heat level that does not distract from the rich flavor profiles. If I had a bone to pick, it's that I'd like a bigger helping of rice with the combo, and that the saag paneer is very scant on the paneer. Okay, and that they use styrofoam to-go containers. But this isn't a place that I mind eating in. Clean, fast, friendly. Tried Curry Express today for the first time with a friend. This place is not fancy by any means, but the food was tasty, well seasoned, and authentic. When I ordered, I was under the impression that my two entrees and two sides would fill one plate, but the entrees were each served in their own bowl and sides filled an entire plate. I thought Curry Point Express was good for what it is which is basically fast casual Indian food. I visited recently for dinner take-out and predictably the place was almost empty. I say predictably because I am sure with their RTP location, most of their business is done during the lunch hour. CPE is fairly small and very casual. I wouldn't compare it to one of the fine dining Indian food restaurants in the area, since that is not who they are trying to compete with. They offer a pretty extensive menu and they have it all very well displayed in an overhead, very well lit digital menu. I ordered the Tikka Marsala with shrimp. It is also available with lamb and chicken. It came with rice, but naan is extra, which I guess it typical. The dish was good, but the spice level was pretty naan existent (a little Indian humor there), so if you dig your Indian food really spicy you might need to tell them to crank it up a bit.( They probably assumed I was a spice tolerant wimp and they would be more or less correct in assuming that.) I enjoyed the over-all flavor of the spices and they served the dish with plenty of shrimp, and a ton of rice. When dining in you can choose an express meal with rice, naan and and an entree for a set price. They also offer lasse in several different flavors. One stars are reserved for terrible/snooty service or issues with hygiene - CPE delivered on the latter. The employee wasn't wearing plastic gloves when handling the food (ok, don't really care), but then I watched as she sneezed while holding my naan in the backroom, and proceeded to bring it out. That is so disgusting and made me completely lose my appetite. I didn't know how to broach it either as I was with fellow coworkers... "hey I saw you sneezing into my naan, can you replace it with the same hands?" A customer of a food place should never have to say anything like that. The curry was great and above average in terms of spice (maybe too much for those who have minimal tolerance) and around the same price as any other Indian place for lunch. BTW Indians, I can tell you that you'll probably be a bit disappointed by the food here, so temper your expectations appropriately. But we're in RTP, what can we do? Who has time to drive down to Morrisville? Even though I absolutely love Indian food and was ecstatic about discovering this little place not far from work, the scene of that woman sneezing into my naan replays like a nightmare preventing me from eating here again.
