How am I the first to review this AMAZING hole-in-the-wall?! I'm adding plenty of pictures with…read morethis review, so enjoy!
First, let me say, I'm a foodie. Love food with spices, and love spicy foods, so naturally "Spicy Hut" seemed like a good fit when my gf and I were looking to experience a new restaurant together. Well, we were expecting "new to us", we got "new to Yelp" and here I am.
tl;dr? Stop reading, start ordering. The food was PHENOMENAL and the pricing was great for what you get!
Spicy Hut's location is a hole-in-the-wall. Walk up, order, sit, wait, get your food, eat. It's quaint, and convenient for conversations.
We had Nikhil take our order. He was super nice with a brilliant smile and was very patient with us. Menu has no descriptions, but there are *some* descriptions on their website. If you've had Indian food before, you know it's all good. If you haven't, the unfamiliarity can be intimadting at first but it's totally worth it!
My gf ordered the Buttered Chicken, a curry. It's like a "safe zone" dish for people that don't eat Indian food often or are trying it for the first time. It was absolutely delicious - rich in flavors, savory, impactful spices and a heat of spicy that slowly, slowly built up (she wanted it "hot").
I ordered the Goat Korma, also a curry. Mine was equally good, but diner beware this is genuine goat and as such expect a few bones and exercise caution when devouring this delicious curry. I had a few bones in mine, but I was aware there could be some when I ordered. Others may not be so fortunate, so fair warning, expect a few bones in the goat curry.
We also ordered a Mango Lassi and a water. The water was great, no "city water" taste, and the Mango Lassi was sold out, so Nikhil gave us the Sweet/Salt Lassi and an extra on the house. This was my first time drinking Lassi and it was delicious. Like a yogurty drink with enough liquid to slurp up through a straw. They're small, so don't expect a thirst quenching experience, but they're perfectly paired with the food.
Onto the breads: the Malabar Parota was our favorite. It was light, flaky, crunchy, crispy and delicious all at the same time somehow. The Pulka was also good, and its buttered brethren the Roti was also good, but hands down the Malabar Parota was absolute FIRE!
The food is not "instant"... The restaurant, despite its small facade and limited seating, is not a fast food place. They cooked everything from scratch, including the breads, and it was piping hot and fresh and so mind boggling tasty!
Bathroom was clean, baseboards could use a good cleaning but overall the restroom was clean.
It's hard to describe just how tasty Indian food is. If you've never experienced it before, you're truly missing out. And if you've had it several times before, add Spicy Hut into your restaurant rotation because it's truly a diamond in the rough!
HUGE "Thank you!" to Nikhil for taking care of us! Good luck, Spicy Hut, I've done my review, now you do you!
