Food is tasty here, but had a disappointing experience when paying for the bill. This restaurant charges higher prices than what is listed on their menu. Buyer beware! As instructed, I used the QR code to pull up the online menu and placed an order. However, when the bill arrived, the restaurant charged me a higher price than the menu price. I pointed out that I was being charged more than the online menu price that I was asked to use. The restaurant staff member said that the online menu was out of date, and prices have gone up since (which I totally understand). Even after admitting that the menu price was an error on their end, the staff member still wanted me to pay the higher (non-listed) arbitrary price. I understand prices go up, but I'm not okay being charged an arbitrary amount that's more than your listed price. read more

Great fusion Indian food, servIce is slow and inattentive. The curries come with rice, and both our lamb and chicken curries were well seasoned and complex. The flavors were outstanding and meat tender! The servings are such that a single curry and an app could likely feed two people for lunch. On the flip side, service is super slow. We had to make sure to wave our server over when he happened to be running food to a table nearby otherwise he wouldn't come back to check on us. Given that the food is good I'll likely go back, but with hesitation as if the service continues as such I probably will mark this place off of our list of local faves. read more

Was craving pizza but also Indian food so I'm glad this place exists! Ordered a chicken tikka masala curry pie and a side of samosas. The pizza itself just tasted like normal pizza with chicken toppings, I could hardly taste any of the curry flavoring. The samosas were a little bland (not enough salt and spices) but the tamarind sauce made up for it. The cilantro raita was not that great though. I would give this place a 3.5 because it was still good but not exactly what I was expecting and the price was reasonable. read more

We ordered the chaat fries, onion naan, and curry pie pizza. The chaat fries were amazing...definitely would come back here just to eat them. The fries were topped with different Indian-style toppings such as chickpeas, chutney, yogurt, and more...unique and so good. The onion naan and curry pizza, however, were quite subpar. There was little flavor in the naan. The curry pizza was one of their fusion-style pizzas (there were other regular pizza types on the menu too) that could come with either saag paneer or the tikka masala chicken I believe. We decided to fuse them and get the paneer with the tikka masala sauce. The pizza tasted like a regular cheese pizza with some spicy flavor - the tikka masala flavor did not come through well and since the sauce itself is pretty heavy and has dairy in it, it just felt like a very dense pizza without much flavor contrast. Based on just the naan and pizza, I would've given this place 3 stars, but the chaat fries really blew it out of the water. Also the prices were very affordable, especially for a sit-down restaurant in Georgetown (the 3 of us paid $9 each and we couldn't even finish our food despite being hungry from walking around DC all day). I really, really want to give this place five stars, because the food is kickass and totally deserves it (I've already recommended it to several friends)! Of course, that begs the question of why I just stopped at four. Short answer? The service. Long answer? Though the servers were super nice, the place just seemed to be ridiculously understaffed. While this was not the servers' fault of course, it was frustrating nonetheless. When my friend and I first arrived, there was no one to greet us downstairs, even after repeated 'hellooooo's and 'excuse me?'s, so eventually we gave up and just headed upstairs on our own (my friend had been before, so that's part of the reason why - otherwise I would likely have just left and gone elsewhere). Even once we were seated, it took forever to get the servers' attention because they simply did not have the bandwidth to accommodate us all in a timely manner. This resulted in a long wait time to order, a long wait for food, and what felt like an eternity between refills of my quick-to-be-emptied water glass. No bueno. More importantly though, as I mentioned before, the food is wonderful - and I don't say that about Indian fusion food all that often. We got the namesake Curry Pie Pizza (personal size and chicken tikka masala as our sauce) and it was so good. Tasty and filling and I wished I had more room so I could have eaten it all in one sitting! We elected to add on mango as an additional topping (cost us $2) but turned out it wasn't the best complement to the flavors of that particular pizza after all. Ah well, lesson learned - it was still yummy, but I'd defs get it sans mango in the future. In addition to that we got the french fry chaat which was highly recommended to us by our waitress, and though I'm not a fan of french fries usually (gasp, I know, how un-American of me!), this chaat was on point and was gone in no time. I can see why it's one of their most popular orders. We also tried out the stuffed naan (sweet kidney bean variety), which personally I liked, though the naan could have been a bit softer (but largely a matter of personal preference, as some people prefer it crisper). I definitely plan to go back and try more things off the menu (maybe some traditional Indian food like the dal makhani next time - would be curious to see how that is)! Hopefully they've stepped up their game on the service front so that my updated review will be 5 stars ;) read more

Upon walking the streets of George Town a tasty aroma hit my nose. I quickly checked yelp in desperation for a nice spot to eat and I found out that aroma was from curry and pie! This restaurant is conveniently located adjacent to George Town university and a few minute walk from George Town cupcakes which makes it the perfect dinner spot. The restaurant itself had very mediocre service. When my party walked in we were not greeted by anyone for a solid 5 minutes, which let us wondering if they were only carryout. Luckily, the hostess came out and quickly walked us to our table upstairs. The food itself was above average. For two people we had to get leftovers for one large pizza. The pizza was priced very fair. One large is only 13 dollars and can be split between 3-4 people. I'd also recommend getting the French fry chaat as an appetizer to top it all off. The flavors have the perfect level of spice and blend between Indian and Italian food. I will certainly be coming back here in the near future. I'd recommend to anyone looking for a trendy spot on their night out in George Town. Note - this place is not good for any parties of 4+ people read more

OVERALL: fantastic Indian pizza fusion restaurant with a cozy ambience and large menu. Would definitely come again, but lactose intolerant people beware - they put a LOT of cheese on the pizza so make sure to bring some extra lactase pills. I came here with some friends at around 6pm on a Saturday night, and was surprised to be seated immediately. It seemed like the place was an old apartment turned into a restaurant, which was great for me, since I enjoy these sorts of cozy, warm atmospheres and pleasant smells. My three friends and I ordered two "The Curry Pie Pizzas" and it was definitely enough for at least one, or maybe even two more people. The portion sizes are huge, so we ended up sharing and even had leftovers. If I had to describe the pizza with only alliteration - cheesy, curry, chicken! At first, I was apprehensive because the pizza looked extremely cheesy and I don't like an excessive amount of cheese - however, once I bit into it, I noticed that the cheese was cooked perfectly, and instead of tomato sauce, they used curry. It was so good that I almost melted into my seat. I've never had food like that before! This place certainly does fusion food right. I'm not a huge fan of most fusion things, but I would definitely come to this place again and recommend it to other people. I wouldn't come if you're expecting a super authentic Indian experience - I mean, it is pizza after all! Cute and cozy Indian restaurant in Georgetown--yes, please! I had been meaning to make my way to this restaurant for some time and as luck would have it, someone from my Meetup group wanted to come here too. She got there before I did and was going to wait for me outside but I told her to go on up--I had done my research and it was mentioned in several of the reviews that the service is slow. I even had her order my items for me. I ordered two food items (chicken tikka pizza and the French fry chaat) but she went a little crazy (veggie pakoras, stuffed naan with chicken tikka, karahi chicken and shrimp lettuce wraps). Chicken tikka pizza: it was okay, could have been crispier--I took the rest home and put it in my toaster oven and that did the trick. French fry chaat: the fries held up nicely under the weight of different sauces--that being said, it was okay but I wasn't in love. Veggie pakoras: I got to try this and I wish I had ordered my own--perfect crisp and I liked the dipping sauces. Stuffed naan: I got to try this and I liked this as well; I think I would like to try the naan stuffed with kidney beans next time. Karahi chicken: I didn't try this one but she thought that it was okay. Shrimp lettuce wraps: I also didn't try this one but she liked it. I will say that it was quite greasy--it was running down her hand. As for beverages, I got the mango fizz and I would let that one again. It wasn't overly sweet and I love just about anything with seltzer. She got the nimbu pani and liked it but thought it was too sweet; she mixed it with ginger ale (not sure if that helped any). Service: As mentioned, it's slow. That being said, the staff is friendly. When she got there, she waited for someone to greet her but after waiting around, she just went up and sat herself at a table for two. The waiter came around but wanted her to sit at another table (this one seats 4 people) because another party needed space for two more. That actually worked out because between the two of us, we ordered a lot of food and it would have been hard to fit everything on a two-person table. It's not a big space so I wouldn't recommend bringing a large group. Also, pack your patience as you might have to wait. Although, we didn't have to wait long because I had someone place my order before I got there. The restaurant is cutely decorated with Indian artwork/photography and it's quiet--perfect date spot. Also, you won't break the bank dining here--I think our bill came up to $50.00 (not bad for Gtown). If you're in the area, I recommend checking this place out. read more

4 stars for a great Indian spot. Disclaimer: If I was ordering pick-up (as many people do from this venue), this would have been a 5 star review. However, the less-than-ideal in-restaurant experience knocks it down a star for me. My wife and I were walking around Georgetown late one night and decided to stop by Curry & Pie. Located on 34th Street near M Street, Curry & Pie is a rather unique concept in that it offers Indian food and pizza. We went inside, put our name on the list and waited outside for about 25 minutes before a table was finally available. While the venue has 2 stories, it is a rather small space that only has about 10 tables. The venue has also rather warm due to the small AC unit (listed at 60 degrees) trying to cool the entire place. Once we made it to our table, we took a look at the double-sided menu. While the venue doesn't offer alcohol (the other reason for a 4 star), it does have a pretty extensive amount of food options that all sounded delicious. My wife decided to get a curry dish and the french fry chaat for the table while I ordered a medium Curry Pie with chicken tikka masala and mango as a bonus. While it took a little while for our food to come out (makes sense due to the place being packed and all the take-out orders coming in), the wait staff was good about refilling our water as we waited and getting the french fry chaat out to try. Speaking of the french fry chaat, it was awesome! While I would order it next time without the raw onion, it was very flavorful without being spicy and just overall superb. Our main dishes came then came out for us to eat. My wife liked her curry, and I absolutely LOVED my pizza. It was very cheesy and the mango I ordered in addition worked perfectly with the dish. Plus, the medium was only $10 and was big enough to fill me up for dinner and provide a great breakfast. Furthermore, combining the french fry chaat with the pizza made for an even better and flavorful dish! Talk about a fun food experience for great prices. Hands down one of the best places I've ever eaten at. This place can be easily missed as it looks like a house, but is actually a restaurant. It's a hidden gem in georgetown! When you first enter the door, there are two tables set up in a pretty small space. I was confused to why they only had two tables because this wasn't a take out- fast food type of restaurant. The server led us upstairs to a bigger seating area. The upstairs is so cute & modern. The table cloths were classy and there were elephant salt/pepper shakers and cute candle light holders- perfect place for a romantic date! I went with a friend so I guess it wasn't romantic lmao. This restaurant is weirdly quiet though. I felt inclined to whisper because I didn't want to be too loud. You can literally hear a pin drop in here. Anyways, onto the food. We ordered the chicken tikka masala, naan bread, and the french fry chaat. The chicken tikka masala was enough to feed the two of us. It came with a lot of rice and Indian food is usually heavy so I couldn't have finished the dish by myself. The naan bread is amazing..so light, buttery, and fluffy. I loved dipping it into the sauce of the chicken tikka masala. Perfect combo! The real star of this lunch was the french fry chaat. Definitely get this if you come here! It consisted of a french fry base with 3 sauces drizzled on top- some creamy white sauce, green sauce, and sweet onion tasting sauce. This restaurant took french fries to a whole new level. Hey look! An Indian and pizza place, two of my favorite things. What could go wrong? I would caveat this place by noting that it is on one of the main side streets leading to the Key Bridge, and honking from the nearby intersection is likely to be constant. Also, the interior space is a quaint old building, but very echo-y. I am sensitive to noise and eating here was an irksome auditory experience. That being said, they seem to do a lot of takeout business, which I would definitely recommend them for. The food options were pretty much what the name and concept suggest: an array of basic Indian dishes and some pizzas. A few vegan options are marked, but for some reason I ended up with a decidedly non-vegan spinach paneer pizza. This was not bad at all; the spinach was the right amount without being overwhelming. It was extremely filling and I could not finish it. For $8 in this neighborhood you'll not likely find anything better. The more conventional paneer makhani that I shared was offered at a choice of spice levels, and I can say that the medium level was appreciably, if not uncomfortably spicy. The bean paste naan and mango fizz I tried were both decent to try, but not special. The french fry chaat was exactly as delicious as that sounds (or, if you aren't familiar with Indian food, it is a fantastic blend of sweet and savory flavors). On the whole, I felt the food was probably a solid three stars. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't better than what I've had at the other twenty-five Indian restaurants inside the District that I've reviewed (that figure is not exaggerated); nor was their fairly basic pizza crust impressive relative to the thirty pizza places I've reviewed in DC. Price to portion ratio varied wildly with different dishes, but overall for Georgetown was not bad. However, I am persuaded to rate them at four stars because the fusion menu is nice and may allow you to convince losers who do not eat Indian food to come here for the pizza, and because they are a non-chain business in Georgetown. If I were (still) a student here, I would be taking serious notice of this place as food options are not great on or immediately near the campus. read more

As someone who is half Italian and half Indian (Curry & Pie's specialities), I was intrigued to try this place. At first, my friend and I were not exactly sure if saag paneer would fuse well with a pizza. We changed our minds once we saw the pictures online. The restaurant is in a great location near the Georgetown campus, and is one of the only Indian restaurants in the area. We were very impressed with the food tonight. The saag paneer pizza was amazing! I could easily taste the Italian and the Indian influences in the dish. More importantly, I tasted each cuisine fused together as one meal. I've had Indian food in the United States, India, and in Egypt, as well as Italian food in the United States and in Italy. I can safely say that the saag paneer pizza I had tonight ranks up there with the top Indian and Italian food I have ever head. For ten bucks, you can not only get Washington DC's top cuisine, but the dish will also fill you up really well. In addition, we also ordered a Malai Kofta. The malai kofta was very delicious as well, and it is cheaper than the other Indian restaurants nearby (almost all of which have lower ratings than Curry & Pie). Amazing food overall as well as an excellent ambiance. Curry & Pie fills the culinary needs of groups with both food lovers and picky eaters (and groups with Italian-Indian people). We ordered a chicken tikka pizza, chicken momos, french fry chaat, sweet potato samosas, vegetable korma, and aloo paratha for delivery. The chicken tikka pizza tasted fantastic! The dough was chewy and the ingredients tasted good together. That said, if you didn't tell me it was tikka, I wouldn't know. It tasted like a regular chicken pizza--very tasty, but no Indian flavors. The chicken momos were pan fried and pretty oily, and the chaat was very soggy. I really liked the taste of the fry chaat but I wish they packaged the toppings and yogurt separately so that it wouldn't get so soggy. The korma tasted authentic and the aloo paratha and samosas were delicious! Curry & Pie is a unique spot with a lot of variety on the menu, and I recommend checking it out. read more

I've never made a Yelp review but it was so good I had to. The food was delicious and by far the best Indian food I've ever had. Everything is fresh and the naan bread was fluffy and fresh out of the oven. Prices might be a bit steep, but it is in Georgetown so not a big surprise. The food: YUM. The Pizzas are to die for. 5/5 Saag paneer and Chicken makhani are so tasty. I would've never thought the flavors would be so good on a pizza! I got the chicken makhani curry. I'd give this butter chicken a 3/5. It needs to be creamier and the chicken needs to be more tender. However I'm still eating it up. Love it. We also got the chicken tandoor wings. It comes with 6 wings. Also 3/5 rating as the flavors didn't stand out enough to me. They tasted more like lightly seasoned wings. Also had garlic Naan which I needed to be crisperier. This place is awesome!! They have traditional Indian food selections and a pizza menu as well. I opted to get the personal curry pie with saag paneer medium spice. It was absolutely delicious! I finished the entire pie and was completely satisfied. I have had paneer in pizza before, but this was a whole new level. I also got the Nimbu Pani. It is sort of like a spiced ginger sprite. Also super delicious and refreshing. Location wise-this place has a kinda small dining space, so I suggest that you call ahead just to see wait times. Food is deluxe, prices are way too low. What a food experience though. Love curry, love pizza, thought they might just work as a mashup. It doesn't just work, it makes something wonderful and new. I had the samosas ($5), a drink called nimbu pani ($3) and the saag paneer pizza in the smallest size ($8). The drink was nice, cooling, sweet, but not sickeningly sweet. Would have again. Samosas: I had the traditional. 9 out of 10, was salty, warm, fresh, aromatic, one of the best I've had. The dough was light and flaky. Probably should be 10 out of 10 actually. Saag paneer pizza: The pizza was way larger than I expected. I bit into it and was kind of at a loss as to what I was experiencing. Not what I expected at all! It was soft, buttery, creamy in texture. The flavors were not spice-forward. Just very, very subtle, velvety, filling, comforting. I'm still struggling to put it into words. I know if I got a cold I would want this and it would heal me. I can say there was spinach but if I had been blindfolded it would have taken me a while to identify it. There was paneer - firm, toasty cubes. There was another cheese over it all, maybe mozzarella, but not at all heavy or greasy in the slightest. This kind of food experience is what I live for. (I'm currently visiting an old friend of mine in the VA, and this is one of the places he took me to.) Unlike the past restaurants for this series, this one was completely new for all of us, so I will make sure to note their opinions as well! I waited a day to write this review because I wanted to settle the internal and external debates regarding this restaurant before I set out for my final conclusion (and because I fell asleep, forgot about the review, and only remembered just as I was about to fall asleep on the bus). Before we get to the controversy, here are the facts: 1. We ordered the garlic naan, french fry chaat, chicken tikka masala, and chicken tikka pizza. 2. The food came out a bit after we arrived, but I think we got there early, so I'll say that it came out on time (we ordered pick-up) 3. The portions were great for the price - that's just how it was. Now HERE is where the controversy begins: 1. We ordered the curry as HOT, yet there was almost no sense of spice. I don't know if it was an error in the order, if our tongues were just impenetrable that day, or if the peppers were past their prime; regardless, that is how it was, and we were all a bit confused. 2. The food lacked an Indian taste. Yes, it's somewhat of an American fusion; yes, it's catering to a broader audience; however, it seemed a bit too far on the bland side (NOT bland in TASTE - I, personally, enjoyed the food very much - but I'll get to those specifics later). As stated before, I didn't mind #2, but if people are looking for a more authentic Indian cuisine, I would say treat this restaurant as a fusion, not as an Indian restaurant. My friends were a bit more heated regarding this point, but they're not writing the review and I'm reflecting my own enjoyment, so too bad for them. To get into the specifics of the dishes ordered: The garlic naan - I thought it was fine, but my friends said, "It's not garlic naan; it's naan with garlic on top." Again, I thought it was fine. The french fry chaat - everyone seemed to enjoy this dish! It was a bit sour, but that's to be expected from the tart yogurt. The chickpeas were so good: crunchy and flavorful. The chicken tikka masala - very creamy, and paired well with the rice. I just really, really, really wish it had been spicy. However, my friends and I agreed that it could have tasted more "Indian". The chicken tikka pizza - probably my favorite since I love pizza. However, my friends said that "it tastes no different from other pizzas; you'd have to try REALLY hard to notice that there's something different about it." I agree with them here as well: I wouldn't have minded a stronger Indian flair. Plus, the crust pairs really well with the chicken tikka masala, so that was a plus for me. This was my first time getting a pizza at Curry & Pie! Normally I opt for the chicken tikka masala (which I highly recommend). This pizza was a little "mild" flavor wise for my preference (if you're a fan of extra spicy) but still delicious! Next time, I will opt for a different dish but overall have had highly positive experiences here! read more

So good that I came back the very next day when I was in DC for over a week. The food is amazing. We ordered the chicken tikki masala, mango lassi, garlic naan, and a lamb vinadloo curry pie. The mango lassi was divine - they added cardamon and just the perfect amount. Don't be fooled by the portion size in the picture of the chicken tikki marsala w/ rice, it can definitely fill you up. Loved that the chicken wasn't dry, that the curry was thick, and that they were so generous that curry was almost flowing off the boat. I ordered the curry w/ rice rather than the salad - the rice came with several spices steamed and was very filling and not under/overcooked! As for the garlic naan...... I could probably do without. It's delicious - esp. when dipped into the marsala, but to be honest, it was more like they took the pizza crust and made a mini version with garlic & butter baked on top. The lamb vindaloo curry pie. THE PIE. I don't think I have ever had anything like it - DELICIOUS, DIVINE, A MUST HAVE. The personal pizza is a perfect size. The pie was so good, had that kick of spice, and the lamb flavor was not too strong and not completely covered by the cheese. Tip: dip the pizza into a tikki marsala and your tastebuds will thank-you. I took a single star off because the service was extremely slow, but understandable because pies are made to order. Another reason was that when I was in the upstairs seating area, a HUGE spider dropped down beside me (I hate spiders) - but the server immediately came and took care of it. Me and my fiancé were hungry for some pizza and we visited this place on a Saturday night while strolling around Georgetown. We ordered the tandoori chicken pizza and it was really good. They also have other selections as well such as the chicken curry pizza (which I do not recommend). My fiance ate here again and ordered it and it was not good at all. Less chicken and no flavor of the curry! They also sell mango lassi and other great dishes too. They have a lot of tables inside for dine in. Service is pretty quick. Restrooms are clean. Parking might be difficult because it is at the corner of a street which is downslope. I would love to come back again since the ambience is great but I will be specific on what I will order. I might also get me some mango lassi. read more

This is a decent no-frills Indian restaurant in DC. The fusion between Indian food and pizza is cute and tastes pretty good. I would recommend the Karahi Chicken, Chicken Tikka Masala, and Chicken Tikka Masala Pizza. read more

I brought a party of 8 for lunch here after reading the reviews. It wasn't a long wait, 5-10 mins to sit upstairs. It filled up pretty quickly after. We split our party into two two tables. One of the table (2 people) ordered couple of vegetarian dishes (dal makhani and aloo gobi) with a roti and naan. It is now 40 mins since we have been waiting for the dishes. All other tables have been served. No one came to explain what is taking this long. On asking we were told that it will be another 3-4 mins as they are now very busy (so sush customers, don't ask questions as we are busy and you are just one of many!). Then finally the waiter comes with a couple of samosas. Haha! Very funny! Told him to cancel the table's order. One of our party ordered crunchy salad which was just bunch of leaves in a bowl along with unseasoned bitter melon. Wow! What a dish, have it crunchy and bitter with no dressing to speak of! Another haha! Please order at your own risk. I asked him to bring the check and finally the food showed. The waiter was apologetic and requested us to have the food. Supposedly our food ticket did not go through! May be it takes their system the first order to start up! He was so sorry that we decided to relent and have some. Got a 15% discount for all our trouble! Wow, epic! Never coming to this place again. Update: this could be a one-off event. Overall the food was ok and our experience could have been better if not for the wait. Giving benefit of doubt and thus, 3 stars. read more
