We had a terrible experience with the Hostess at this restaurant, after using the "tock" app to make a March 21st dinner reservation. We stayed at the Riverhouse Lodge for 2 nights and made a reservation using the "tock" app that was advertised in the room. When making the reservation, we had asked for a booth and answered the question about what we might be celebrating, which was a "birthday". I had just finished a 4-year battle with Cancer, so it was a big deal to be celebrating another birthday. From the moment we walked in the door, and had to interface with the hostess, we were disappointed. She was having a conversation with someone from the bar, which seemed more personal than professional, and she never acknowledged us until that chat was done. We felt like an inconvenience from the moment we walked in, and she never even attempted to suggest that "she would be right with us". She seemed put off when we told her we had a reservation, and after taking a quick peak at it, proceeded to walk us to a table. We told her that we had requested a booth, and she said that she did not have any booths available at the moment. No apology, just a statement of fact. We asked if she read the entire reservation, and she claimed she had, so we relented to sitting at a table. Our next mistake was assuming that she had in fact reviewed the reservation and shared with our server that we were celebrating a birthday that evening, but she had not. At the end of the meal, my husband asked our server whether the hostess had shared with her that it was my birthday, and we were all shocked that she had not bothered. We wrote an email to the Restaurant Manager and copied the Riverhouse Lodge management team and heard back from the Restaurant Manager. He apologized and suspected that there was a problem with the "tock" app, where the data entered by the customer did make it in its entirety to the restaurant. While he was pleasant, our expectations of the restaurant dropped several notches, especially since the food was nothing special, and he failed to address the issue with the attitude and lack of professionalism with his hostess. This lodge and restaurant were written up in Northwest Magazine last month, however, our overall experience was very disappointing. The photo spread shows the beautiful river scenes, however, right across the street from the lobby is a Hobby Lobby and an almost completely shuttered old Mall. We copied the Riverhouse Lodge Manager on our complaint and never heard anything from them. We visit Bend around 4-times each year "off season" and there are dozens of other restaurants to choose from where you will not be let down like we were here. read more

Don't come hungry, or expect to eat before your given your overprice bill (waffle and little chicken tenders $22, eggs Benedict on a paper thing hard biscuit and overcooked egg $18). Not the best after :45 minutes. One positive is the service was nice and friendly. read more

First: our waiter was nice... but the restaurant/bar/patio was severely understaffed (even the manager admitted this)... so our server was doing his best while in the weeds. Second: not a good thing to tell your table that one of the entrees was out of stock (after appetizers arrived). We understand, but would have made much different choices on appetizers and entrees... but who runs out of chicken?!? Third: waiting 12 minutes + for a second cocktail? Fail. Especially when one arrived and the other didn't. Forth: asked for cracked pepper on salad. Wait 10 minutes for a pepper shaker. Then manager says "we don't have a pepper mill." Again, we would have made different choices, but to string along with waiter, manager, and busser trying "to find" the pepper mill??? Fifth: sense of urgency??? Sixth: wrong appetizer delivered, waited to long for the correct order. Seventh: when chicken entree was "out" the replacement entree came missing a key ingredient. Seriously??? I wasn't sure what to expect from these mixed reviews, but we were staying at the hotel and decided to hope for the best. The food and service were excellent. Five stars. We shared a few appetizers, including striata bread, roasted cauliflower, and a beet salad. I had the blackened rockfish (ask for the BBQ sauce on the side because that would have messed up the dish in my opinion), another person had the half chicken, which was a huge portion, and two people had the elk rack (it is not a rack, it is two small chops from the rack). Everyone loved everything. Even the cocktails were delicious, creative, and priced about the same as most bars. No problem with food or service. The big con of this restaurant is the prices. They are offensively high. I've been in plenty of expensive restaurants, but these prices are out of line with the area, with the type of restaurant it is, and with what you're getting. It feels like gouging, and I suspect this has something to do with those 1 & 2-star reviews, because it's just plain offensive. We were treating another couple, and they were so uncomfortable and didn't order what they really wanted because of the prices. We also had breakfast here, and those prices weren't quite as egregious (except for the $6 for 1/2 an avocado). My Denver omelette was tasty, and again the service was excellent. If I came back to the hotel I'd probably eat breakfast here again, but I would not eat dinner here unless they make the prices more reasonable. read more

Ordered warm almonds, warm olives as an appetizer, both came in a small cast iron pan, main course was fondue. Meat was tender, chunks of bread perfectly toasted. Currents has a beautiful location. The sound of the river was very relaxing. They have heaters to keep you warm during the cooler months/days. Very friendly staff too. If they only served better food, it would have been perfect. Came here for a weekend breakfast. We were seated right away. We had bloody marys, hot cocoa, buttermilk pancakes, Currents Breakfast(2 eggs, bacon, toast, home fried potatoes), Dungeness crab omelette, and corned beef and hash with poached eggs. The bloody Marys were good, the hot cocoa was very watered down. Food wise, only the Currents breakfast was good. The rest disappointing. The pancakes were crunchy, the Dungeness crab omelette lacked flavor and the corned beef and hash was bland, mostly potatoes and whatever meat was in it had a weird greasy flavor. They give military discount but location and discount are not enough to entice us into coming back unless they cooked better food. read more

Great View and good food! My wife and I went out for dinner and sat on the patio. Although we were not able to be seated next to the railing, we could still clearly see the river and hear the rapids, which is one of the main reasons we visited. We started with the Blue Cheese cake, which is served like a dessert cheese cake, with a corn cake crust - pretty tasty. My wife ordered the filet for dinner. Although it was way overcooked (she ordered on the rare side of medium, the steak came out almost entirely gray), she said the flavor was great and it was still tender. I ordered the braised pork shank, which was incredibly tender and had a great sauce/gravy. Overall, we will def return. I may call ahead to reserve a spot directly next to the river though! read more

My manager just told me no more orders it's almost 9pm and the kitchen closes at 9 pm. Then why do your hours in YOUR website say closes at 10pm. I said are you sure you can't even do mashed potatoes I know how restaurants work. She said no I'm sorry, but we can do anything from the appetizer/bar menu. She didn't even ask or check. *Updated* We came back for my birthday in February and it was still incredible. Best duck I've ever had and our server Autumn was truly exceptional. We continue to have amazing experiences here! We had an amazing dinner for New Years Eve, great service and the food was delicious. They put together an amazing pre fixe menu! The manager or owner greeted us at the door and was so warm, kind and welcoming it really set such a great tone for the experience. Our hostess was super nice, our waiter was fun and attentive and the food was *awesome*. We had the prime rib from the pri fixe menu and it was incredible. The only dings for me were that whereas my spouse and I got our cocktails out fairly fast, my mother in law waited a little longer for LEMONADE, you would think it would have been the other way around. One of us got the soup and salad combo but only the soup was brought out (which actually turned out okay because the soup was huge) waitress was awesome to take the salad off the meal because of that. First time visiting Bend in many years. Happened to be staying at The Riverhouse Lodge. After a long day of driving, I broke a long standing personal rule of never dining at a hotel restaurant other than for breakfast. Currents, the Riverhouse Lodge's in house dining establishment, was excellent. The dining room itself is beautiful and relaxing with high ceilings, a wall of windows, and lots of natural wood. my server, a young woman named Hailey, recommended the fresh beet and burrata salad as an appetizer. It was top shelf, as was her attentive service. For main course, I selected the "Ralph Cramden" special-Meatloaf. It was perfectly seasoned and flavorful, accompanied by al dente fresh carrots and a complimentary bed of buttery mash potatoes with mushrooms and a light gravy mixed in. Even the coffee was well chosen sand perfectly brewed...from Stumptown, one of Portland's best specialty coffee roasters. My conclusion was that the decisions made for the cuisine and decor for this restaurant have been carefully made as the quality of their food and service is profoundly evident. It is traditional American comfort food, elevated and done extremely well. Kudos. read more

We arrived 30 minutes early for Thanksgiving dinner and checked in with the hostess saying "sorry but we're really hungry". She was quite rude and snapped back with " well you're just gonna have to wait because we are fully booked" even though there were several empty tables. We went to the lounge where we told our server,Becky, that we had to wait for our reservation. She said "we have a table right here, same menu and no waiting" so we did, spent close to $400 for four only to come home and see a $100 cancellation fee on our card. The food was good but very sparse for a $40 Thanksgiving dinner. Good portion of turkey but just a smear of sweet potato, a teaspoon of cranberry sauce and small serving of stuffing. Becky's service was excellent but the hostess needs a few lessons in customer service. Rather than her rude approach she could have taken a different approach and said, "Have a seat in the lounge and we'll see what we can do". We felt she cancelled the reservation and applied the charge deliberately as she knew we were there. What a Happy Thanksgiving at Currents! What a classic location! The deschutes river flows by just outside the glass wall, very beautiful there is a patio as well . It was too cold, but o can see it would be fantastic in warmer weather. I was one of the first customers of the morning. And they were just getting underway. My omelette was very good, the potatoes were a great concept . They were smashed baby reds. Mine were kinda burnt but there were a few that were pretty good. I had to try to copy them when I got home. Mine turned out pretty good. The bacon was pretty overdone as well. The service was pretty good, like I said, being there early . The kitchen was just getting started, so understandable. Not cheap, but it was a treat on my last day in Bend before I flew back home. read more

This rating is solely based on the service and atmosphere. The atmosphere/design was wonderful (hence at least the two stars), and we didn't get an opportunity to try the food. Background: We arrived 15 minutes before our dinner, checked in with the hostess. We were told to come back in 15 minutes so we grabbed a drink at the bar. The drinks at the bar were both just OK, I think perhaps the bartender helping us may have been new or pulled in to help so it is what it is. We went back 15 minutes later to the hostess and were seated promptly. We immediately ordered bread and some other appetizers. Then others started getting sat around us. 15 minutes go by and others around us are finishing their breads and salads, and we never received ours. The waitress checked in every 10 minutes and kept saying it's still coming. 46 minutes later, folks around us are finishing their main courses and we haven't even received our bread yet! We just finally left and told the hostess on the way out what happened. This was a very, very, poor experience. We were sitting in the middle of the main (bottom) floor so not like we were hidden off in a corner. read more

We arrived to the bar and the male bartender made it very obvious that he didn't want to be working. Every time a ticket printed he mumbled about it. He also got my burger wrong with it was an average burger but no flavor. We had to move because both bartenders had rbf. I also didn't finish the burger. The bartender noticed I didn't finish the burger but didn't even ask if anything was wrong with my burger. I asked to sub mayo on the burger and the mayo came on the side which for $24 dollars is it really that difficult for cooks to put on the burgers. Especially with how much cooks are paid these days. We usually stop in around 3pm and the service has always been great. Tonight it was the opposite. Not sure if we will return. read more

It was a bit too chilly to sit at a riverside table, so the hostess moved us inside with no problem. Tables are spaced and staff all wore masks. I had salmon with mushrooms in miso broth. Salmon was delicious. I didn't get much miso taste in the broth. My partner had steak on a potato salad nest. Steak was medium-rare, cooked perfectly. Service was excellent: prompt and courteous. The ambiance is wonderful - dining on the back patio on the Deschutes River is amazing. The staff couldn't be more accommodating and pleasant. That being said, the food (I can only speak to breakfast) is average and unimaginative at best. I won't even address the coffee... So, go for the atmosphere not the food. Beautiful setting outdoors by the river. However, several problems. We had a 4:00 reservation for an early dinner before the Neil Young show nearby. There were only 3 tables filled; the rest of the restaurant was empty. It took 20 minutes to be served a beer on tap and a cocktail. The server apologized and said the bartender had disappeared. Then it took 40 minutes for our dinner. I had a salad, side of polenta. Those 2 dishes were good, hence the 2 stars. My husband's duck came out lukewarm; it obviously had been sitting too long. Too bad, because the hotel is great. But won't come to this restaurant again. read more

This use to be the place to go for New Years. I checked it out on line today and it was a bit confusing. On the website they said they'd have a DJ in one of the ballroom. Appears that isn't happening or the employee wasn't informed. Wanted to make reservations for New Years. I called and was told that they are serving dinner at the convention center $169.00 PER PERSON! What you get for that includes entry free, live band, voucher for a drink, dinner and a glass of champagne at midnight. I asked what they would be serving and was told that the "executive chef" is still working on the menu. I really don't care what they are serving at that price. Won't be attending. Lately, the service has been slow and we have decided we no longer need to patronize this establishment. Also, they are doing turkey dinner for Thanksgiving at $79 per person. That's very expensive and you need to buy tickets online and they charge a fee even for that. read more

BREAKFAST DINING ONLY: During our stay at the Riverhouse lodge, they comped our breakfast due to some issues we had with our stay. Anna, Myla, Brianna, and Jackie were our servers. I must say the breakfast menu is amazing. With so many options. My fav was the Brisket Hash with house hasbrowns on the side with extra spinach. The service was impeccable and all of the servers were attentive to our every request. The restaurant sits right by the river creating a peaceful experience. Very disappointed in restaurant. A family member is visiting and staying at hotel. Decided to check our Currents. Menu items were not that appetizing and Way to pricey. Half chicken dish was priced at $39 and one of the least expensive items on menu. . They were out of it, so I never tried it. Got a Cesar salad with Salmon. Awful. Dressing was very sparse and bland. Cheese didn't feel fresh. While waitress was pleasant she didn't check on us after serving us, so I nibbled at salad until manager came by and I asked for more dressing. It never got satisfying for me. Was told hotel and restaurant are in transition to new owner. Maybe new owners will step Things up a bit. read more

We're in town from Tacoma and staying at the riverhouse lodge which has also been a treat. Would absolutely stay here and eat here again :) read more

I made reservations for a party of five to sit on the patio. When we arrived they sat us inside and when we inquired about the patio reservation they said they didn't have any available seating on the patio at this time despite us making the reservation the day prior. After we were sat at a table inside, we waited fifteen minutes before leaving. nobody greeted us or even served us water. read more

Horrible service. Not once did the waitress come to ask if our food was ok or to refill our drinks and it wasn't even busy at the time. I ordered the Caesar salad which had too much dressing and the lettuce wasn't crisp. My husband ordered the trout which was quite good. Horrible service. Hostess did not know the difference between sun and shade. Asked to sit in shade outside. We were sat in the direct sun ( we did have reservations, there was a shade table available that was given to a couple 5 min later). It was almost 90 degrees. All she could say was "we will have someone move the umbrella ". Well since there are bushes and flowers the umbrella could not be moved. Tried to get moved but hostess just said the umbrella could be moved. Horrible service. Never saw a waiter so don't know if service would have gotten any better. read more

Went twice in one week for their Happy Hour as it's wonderful! There were 2 of us the first time and 4 of us the second time. For a starter both times we had warm mixed olives. I never want olives any other way now (except maybe in a martini ;). They were so good, and the servings were huge! The first time i had the crispy chicken sandwich and my friend had the burger, both were very good. Second time, one friend had the grilled grape and olive bruschetta, another had the pork belly mac and cheese and the other had the burger. I had the proscuitto and fig flat bread. Everyone was very happy with their meals, the portions were large and the service was excellent! Would highly recommend. Happy hour goes from 4-6pm every night. Regular menu looked great as well but my budget only allows for happy hours. read more
