Grumpy's Sourdough Pizza Co. 522 Saddle River Rd…read more Saddle Brook, NJ 07663 Hot Honey Heaven Grumpy's Triple Threat Multiple people have reached out to me and suggested I explore this locally owned pizzeria located in the heart of Saddle Brook. As I entered the parlor, it is a hole in the wall with minimal seating and no AC unit. Regardless that it wasn't fancy, I still had a very gut instinct the quality of their pies was going to be on the money. When I arrived a weekday afternoon to place my order, the cashier informed me there will be a 40 minute wait. For the fact that the wait is this long indicates there are in demand and their pizza is top quality. I also saw framed plaques along their table counter showing they received positive media recognition from The Record, northjersey.com, and bestofnj.com. Hot Honey Heaven: I was initially skeptical about the appearance of this pie because it looks kind of messy. However, I took a single bite and was immediately hooked. This pie was topped with pepperoni, crispy chicken, and ricotta cheese. Mike's Hot Honey was generously poured over the top. It has a combination of sweet and spiciness. I never anticipated honey would enhance the flavor of the pie; I wish I requested an extra cup! Grumpy's Triple Threat: Named after the restaurant, this pie is prepared with pesto, grandma sauce, and pink tomato sauce. The sprinkled parmigiano reggiano added a nice touch. I especially liked the artistic appearance. The three colors were visually appealing, especially with the swirls of pesto. All pies are prepared with their signature sourdough pizza crust. Each slice had a perfect undercarriage and a firm crunch. Customers have the option to bake the pies may light, medium, or well-done. I chose medium because a majority of the customer base prefers this style. As a bonus, Grumpy's offer complimentary crust upgrades. I opted to add garlic butter brush; the outer crust edge was literally brushed with hot, garlic-infused butter. While it is common to throw away the top portion of the pizza, the upgrade is definitely an incentive to eat the crust. San Marzano tomatoes are the primary ingredient for the sauce. It's not overly sweet and has a light tang. This pizzeria is geared for take out, but there are plenty of benches only minutes away at Saddle River County Park. You can enjoy your pie while admiring the beautiful scenery of the park. The parking lot has limited spaces, but you can easily find a spot on the street. Grumpy's may be a hole in the wall, but the pizza was outstanding. I'm really exuberant that I had a pristine experience exploring sourdough crust for the first time! I was far from "grumpy" after dining here! #grumpys #grumpyssourdoughpizzaco #grumpystriplethreat #hothoneyheaven

A heads-up if you're driving: parking can be a little difficult. There's a sign pointing to parking in the rear, but the lot is pretty small. You may be better off parking on a side street and walking over. I went just before the lunch hour, and the line was already out the door. They were also getting plenty of phone calls, so they definitely seem to have a busy business going. As for the pizza, the taste was good overall. The dough was a little tough and seemed possibly overdone, and the type of cheese they use made the pizza feel a bit greasy. That said, I'd be willing to try it again. Next time, I might skip the personal pie and try a different size or style to see if that makes a difference. Staff were very kind!!!! * I didn't see any slices on display, but people were ordering by the slice.

I would've liked to try a nacho slice. The worst slice I tried was the vodka. It was so dry and hard to chew. My guess is that it was overcooked. (It felt like I waited a while for my slices to be warmed.) I unfortunately got a chicken chimi slice even though I ordered beef. I asked what was on the chimi slice before ordering and the employee started listing so much I forgot! I think the beef would've been better than the chicken; the chicken didn't add much flavor. My favorite slice was the salami and plantains. Never would've thought this would be good! The plantains were really sweet, very good! They have tables inside and outside for eating there. Parking is right in front but it's a small lot.

Located on the busy West Pleasant Avenue in Maywood, my partner, our friends, and I decided on Amici's, translated from the Italian meaning "friends." Upon arrival for some of us as first-timers at this family-owned BYOB neighborhood establishment, we were greeted by the staff and got a table for 5 inside one of the dining rooms by the window for a celebratory dinner. Outside dining is available, weather permitting. Their menu features authentic Italian staples such as wood-fired pizzas, classic pasta dishes, and homemade comfort food. As appetizers, we decided on the Rice Balls with vodka sauce. For our main meal, we opted for the Flounder Francese, Eggplant Parmigiana (one with spaghetti and another with linguini), Paccheri with Seafood, Roma Pizza, and Tossed Salad. Some meal accompanied by a side salad. Complimentary bread began our meal. Everything tasted fresh and well-balanced. One can tell they take pride in their ingredients and preparation. The pasta especially deserves all the hype, rich, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The portions were healthy and suitable for a second meal. The prices were reasonable. The owner, Rosario, would personally visit each table for small talk. The entire staff was warm, attentive, and genuinely cared about making our experience special; our server was Dawne. So, the next time one sits down to eat, take a moment to appreciate the experience. Savor the flavors, yes, but also relish the connections that form across the table. In a world that sometimes feels divided, food serves as a reminder of our shared connections. This is exactly how a business needs to be run; therefore, we highly recommend Amici's to anyone looking for true back-home dining.

I had been wanting to try the Oxtail pizza for a while when I used to pass the Edgewater location…read moreso I traveled to Englewood. I ordered the oxtail pizza and it was delicious!!! The crust is thin with a sesame sprinkled crust and it was so good that I even ate every single bite of it, which is unusual for me. The oxtail was so flavorful and rich with the cheeses (mozzerella, Parmesan and goat cheese), meat, hot honey and spinach. The ladies asked if I wanted cilantro on top, which was the perfect add of even more flavor. They were so sweet and welcoming. Parking in downtown Englewood can be tough but I took the side street behind the row of stores and found the back entrance to Wahizza. I'm not sure if that's allowed but it made the pizza pick up a very quick and convenient experience. I plan on eating in next time bc the inside was so cute and looked very comfortable. I am definitely coming back.
