They're pretty popular so be prepared to find a line in front of their truck, but have no fear the line moves speedy fast! Tip 1: They have two windows. One window to order and one order to pick up (don't get confused)! A lot of people will be waiting on the pickup line thinking it's where they order. Once you order they'll give you a ticket that you'll trade in for an order of curds. Tip 2: You can ask for condiment cups. Ranch and Siraccha aioli sauces are both free. We visited Madison for the weekend and heard a lot of hype about the Curd Girl food truck, so we decided to check it out at the farmers market on Saturday. Honestly, it just didn't live up to the expectations. The cheese curds were good, but they weren't crispy, which was pretty disappointing. I mean, they give you a decent amount for the price, but it just wasn't what I was hoping for. With all the hype, I expected something better. I'm not sure what the big fuss is about, but it didn't quite hit the mark for me. They're usually at the farmers market all summer long, but I don't think I'd get them again. I think this cute food cart has the best cheese curds downtown. If you're a local you should try these immeditely and if you're a tourist you can try these after your morning at the farmers market. The cart is usually located right across from Lucille's on the square. The curds were cooked to perfection and not too over cooked. My favorite part was the sauce options that the girls offered. These are some 'aspirational' fried cheese curds, right here...For folks not local to WI or immediately adjacent, what you may be able to find at your local Culvers or Dairy Queen doesn't hold a candle to Curd Girl's oooey-gooey, pull-able, perfectly battered and fried, flavorful cheesiness. I've been enjoying basic cheese curds since the 70's - I know quality, simple curd. Nothing in common with factory-flash-frozen, packaged, and sold frozen cheese sticks, except the concept, I guess. I honestly don't know how to respond to complaints regarding product being greasy. It's cheese. And they've deep fried it in wonderfully delicious batter. The curds have a thin crispy batter and taste "lighter" than other curds, which I consider a good thing. They do melt in your mouth! you can choose one of several different sauces, including garlic aoli, ranch, and some others. My only complaints are that the ordering system was very unclear; customers were supposed to line up at one window to order then stand in line in another for curds, but no signage indicated where to go. I tried their amazing fried cheese curds at the Willy St Fair. I did not experience the problems that some other reviewers had with the curds being too greasy. The batter was very light, almost like a tempura batter, and the inside was nicely melted. Both the ranch and sriracha dip worked well with the hot curds. The first time I tried Curd Girl was at Taste of Madison 2014 and BOYYY WAS I MISSING OUT! These are the best curds I've had since moving to Madison. I found out that they are regularly posted at the farmer's market after stalking--ahem, finding their Facebook page. I never really paid attention to the food trucks whenever I browsed around. The curds themselves are made fresh and I like the light and airy batter, a perfect complement to the tasty cheese.
