it would be selfish of me to gatekeep the best puerto rican food in wisconsin. it's my first time being able to make it, and i have no regrets standing outside in the cold for 45 minutes, and i would do it over and over again! they sold out of the pastelon about half way through our wait, but still had the garlic chicken and all of the sides available. the owner communicated with the line to update everyone on what they had available despite them being busy, and they were SO SO kind. i STG if they ever open a brick and mortar, i would be their #1 customer. make sure to be nice to everyone, and expect they may sell out if you're waiting, so to ensure that you get a plate, get there EARLY. read more

I was recommended El Wiscorican by Bonnie's Balls owner, Bonnie and it did not disappoint! No carry-out meal has wowed me to this degree with quantity, texture, and FLAVORS! Puerto Rican cuisine isn't in my usual food palate but it will be now! El Wiscorican usually operates through a food truck but they also have family meals that are announced early in the week and then you can pick up either Thursday/Friday at FEED (Food Enterprise & Economic Development) between 4:30-6:30. What's really great is that that you can pick half of full orders. The half was more than plenty for me (and a few days extra). You call them when you are in the parking lot at FEED and they bring the the food to you car. The week I ordered, I decided to get the Skirt steak, Arroz griego (bacon n beer rice), yuca mofongo, Chimichurri, house made bread (pan sobao) full 45$/half $25. Let me tell you, I was totally blown away! The arroz griego was super light and fluffy in texture, a bright orange color, and packed with flavor (without being salty). I was surprised how large the pan was and impressed how fluffy the texture was. It had a bit fo sweetness to it which was amazing. The yuca are fried upon arrival so when you get them they are nice and crispy on the outside with a soft inside. The spicy aioli that accompanies them have the perfect kick of spice! On the main, the steak was sliced into bit-size strips and was so tender and juicy. The chimichurri sauce was delightful and just drizzled oh so nicely over the steak. My last shoutout that you do not want to skip on is the pastries! The guava cheese pastry was incredible! Outside was nice and flakey but the guava jam shined through so well and couple perfect with the cheese filling. Best and most convenient food to eat while driving (yes, I frequently eat dessert first). Don't walk, RUN to try El Wiscorican, because it really is just that good! read more

El Wiscorican is an excellent food truck. Everything they make is delicious. I'm so glad that we have some Puerto Rican cuisine here! They are also such nice people. We have always loved them - their involvement with the community, charitable contributions, etc.. but during this pandemic, I feel like they've done an even more excellent job at catering for the community, safely too. The tripleta is one of my favorite sandwiches here in Madison. There are 3 meats: pork, chicken, and beef with some mayo/ketchup, chimichurri, and crunchy fries (almost like sticks). The meats are so juicy... The best, however, is that all of this is enveloped in a homemade bread bun. It is just the perfect sweetness with a nice chewiness to it. So good! read more

Yum!!!! The only reason for the 4 stars is that the stuff was no longer warm by the time hubby came home with them. Although the flavor of the Tripletas is fantastic....add the chimmichuri and WOW! I bought the a full order so got 4, nearly foot long sammiches stuffed with beef, chicken and pork with so much awesome flavor your mouth gets happy. The bread is so perfect! It soaks up the juices but stays in tact without getting soggy. Just wonderful. We also bought the quesitos....I am used to them Being about the size of an egg roll. Not for these people! They are a little longer than the sammiches. And just the perfect flaky, sweet crust and yummy cream cheese filling. We can't wait to try out all the other things on the menu! I admit I'm a big newbie to Puerto Rican food, so when my co-worker told me about El Wiscorican, I decided to forego my usual Friday lunch of Vietnamese sandwiches to try it out. The food is really damn good. They are really good about posting their specials ahead of time on Facebook, so I've had pasteles (food wrapped in plantain or banana leaves, similar but not the same to tamales) and pastelon (similar to lasagna but with a base of sweet plantains instead of pasta). Both were great, but I especially was blown away by the pastelon. It had great flavor and texture with the crispiness of the sweet plantains. On their regular menu, they have a garlic chicken/pork platter with sides, as well as a tripleta sandwich. The garlic chicken goes really well with the green sauce that they put on it, and I like the hearty texture of their tostones (savory plantains). The portions are also massive so you definitely get your money's worth. That's probably the only downside...that after such a satisfying lunch I always want to hibernate in a cave because I get so sleepy haha. The guy who runs the truck is also super friendly. He always accommodates my horrifyingly bad spice tolerance although I'm sure I'm committing a mortal sin by not getting it spicy read more

I've returned a dozen times over the last year to this Dayton Street staple. Their Puerto Rican rice is subtly different every time but the essential composition is the same and its amazing. It's a great Spanish-style rice with the inclusion of green olive, bacon, other vegetables. Their fried pork is amazing, tender, even though maybe unhealthy a little bit (cuz... fried). The chimichurri while spicy... is AMAZING. Go spicy if you can take it. it's worth it. read more

I was at Madison Night Market last night pigging out at various food trucks. I came across El Wiscorican and a Costa Rican food truck with very similar offerings next to it. I had a hard time choosing between them, so I flipped a coin. I gotta say, I am so glad it landed on tails. El Wiscorican was serving a combo plate of the day and a sandwich call La Tripleta. I got both: The plate of the day was pork with Puerto Rican-style rice and a choice of a side (I picked savory fried bananas AKA tostones). For $9, I got a big clamshell filled generously with rice, pork, and tostones. The rice was deliciously savory and salty and also had some green olives and what appeared to be lentils. The pork was meaty and chunky with the perfect amount of fat. The spicy, creamy sauce on top gave the dish the moisture it needed. My only complaints were that the pork was barely too salty and that the tostones were too thin, dry, and sweet. I'm not going to lie, I was really looking forward to good tostones, so I was pretty disappointed. La Tripleta is absolute perfection. Let's start with the foundation of any good sandwich, the bread. They claim to bake the bread fresh every day, and I believe it! It was perfectly soft and sweet. It was like Hawaiian bread and amaroso rolls had a baby on steroids. The meat mixture of beef, pork, and chicken with mayo ketchup had a great meaty and saucy texture. The crunchy potato sticks provide a nice textural contrast. If you're a fan of philly cheese steaks, you can't afford to pass up La Tripleta. It's a shame that El Wisorican is mostly a lunch truck that I won't have access to. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for when it's out for dinner time. read more

El Wiscorican catered our company picnic yesterday and they were a huge hit with everyone. The food was served quickly and was very fresh. The two men running the food cart were extremely professional, friendly and helpful. I don't have much experience with Puerto Rican food but I can say all of the dishes served by El Wiscorican were fantastic. Everything was very delicious. They also offered both vegan and non vegan options so all of us could find delicious options. I'll definitely be looking out for the El Wiscorican food cart in the future during my travels around Madison and I recommend them to everyone who loves great food and exemplary service. read more

Fan-frickin-tastic. The pork is ridiculously flavorful, and the fried plantains were addictively delicious. All of that served on a bed of amazing rice and beans with olives mixed in. I've been to Puerto Rico a couple of times, so while I'm far from an expert-- I have to say this place is the real deal. As good or better than anything I got on the island.
