Amazing, local service, great food. The plantains and pork roast were both amazing! Highly recommend.

Puerto Rican cuisine isn't in my usual food palate but it will be now! El Wiscorican usually operates through a food truck but they also have family meals that are announced early in the week and then you can pick up either Thursday/Friday at FEED (Food Enterprise & Economic Development) between 4:30-6:30. What's really great is that that you can pick half of full orders. The half was more than plenty for me (and a few days extra). You call them when you are in the parking lot at FEED and they bring the the food to you car. The week I ordered, I decided to get the Skirt steak, Arroz griego (bacon n beer rice), yuca mofongo, Chimichurri, house made bread (pan sobao) full 45$/half $25. Let me tell you, I was totally blown away! The arroz griego was super light and fluffy in texture, a bright orange color, and packed with flavor (without being salty). I was surprised how large the pan was and impressed how fluffy the texture was. It had a bit fo sweetness to it which was amazing. The yuca are fried upon arrival so when you get them they are nice and crispy on the outside with a soft inside. The spicy aioli that accompanies them have the perfect kick of spice! On the main, the steak was sliced into bit-size strips and was so tender and juicy. The chimichurri sauce was delightful and just drizzled oh so nicely over the steak. My last shoutout that you do not want to skip on is the pastries! The guava cheese pastry was incredible! Outside was nice and flakey but the guava jam shined through so well and couple perfect with the cheese filling. Best and most convenient food to eat while driving (yes, I frequently eat dessert first). Don't walk, RUN to try El Wiscorican, because it really is just that good!

The lady that took my order was very nice. I ordered the.Jibarito De Pernil which was made with shredded pork. It tasted pretty good, but the garlic kinda gave it a different taste.. I had the Puerto Rican rice on the side, which also was very good. I ordered a Alcapurria and a Relleno De Papa. The papa is a mashed potato ball with ground beef in the middle, which tasted really good. The Alcapurria is a smashed plantain with the ground beef in it and deep fried. At first, it seemed a little greasy then it dried up and it tasted pretty good.! I will definitely return and try some different food. They have specials for lunch every day that rotates different food . The restaurant was very clean!

The Cuban style jibarito is no longer on the menu, but they still make it for me by request and it is my favorite sandwich of all time. Plain pork jibarito (no lettuce, tomato, or ketchup/mayo sauce) with ham and Swiss cheese, then add mustard, pickle, and American cheese. If you like a Cuban sandwich, you must try it. The place is connected to a gas station but don't let that stop you from trying. Everything is made to order, so don't expect fast food, but I always get friendly service.

So good I came back within a week to try something else, which honestly, I never do…read more I've been keeping an eye on this place on Lake Street for some time. I initially thought they were a Cuban place (given that a Cuban is the first thing on the menu) but no; they do Puerto Rican food. And they do it really well. First time around, I *did* order that Cuban. If you haven't had this before, it is an odd mix; cheese, ham, mustard(?), panini bread, pork, and... a dill pickle? Yeah, this works, and the reason it works is because of the lechon: the most seasoned, flavorful, tender, and moist pork I've had in a long time. I could order it separately and bring my own Mang Tomas sauce and dip it, it's that good. I also got a side of madruros (fried sweet plantain) which was delicious. They will make patacones but I don't think they had any unripe plantain today. This was all so good that I came in again after I learned they wrap sandwiches in plantains. Of course I was going to try this. The jibarito was delicious. Toothy-tender plantain as bread is a winner, it turns out. I got ropa vieja, and the beef was shredded, tender, and moist. It was served with a ridiculous amount of Puerto Rican rice, which... I'd never had before, but liked a lot. Service was friendly, although I wish there were pictures to go with the menu. (I would've gotten a jibarito the first time and to be honest I'll probably never get another main). Plenty of places to sit, and the seats are comfortable. As a bonus you'll hear a lot of Latin American hits over the speaker.
