One of the best Mexican restaurants in the 815. They will make you fresh guacamole at your table. Their salsa and chips as well as their queso is all some of the best you'll ever taste. SO many tasty authentic dishes on their menu! read more

Very good! Really authentic and the guac is made tableside- super delicious. I had tacos which were above average. I had just had some of my favorite ever the night before so a tough comparison. I would go back for sure! read more

My sister and I both enjoy Mexican food. A friend recommended Mexico Classico and I'm very glad they did! The restaurant's outward appearance shouldn't be a basis for judgment. The place is surprisingly large inside. We got seated right away. Our service was very friendly and responsive, and we both really enjoyed the entrees that we ordered. Definitely give this one a try! read more

What happened to your food! We got a steak borrito tonight and it was terrible. No seasoning, covered with tomato sauce, no flavor at all. Gee so disappointed in this. You need a new cook that can actually cook authentic mexican food not Americanized mush. Gee Toco Bell would have tasted better. read more

We went to Mexico Clasico on Friday night with a table of four. Our server, Andrea, was very friendly, attentive, and really added to our enjoyable dining experience. Everyone loved their food, and the margaritas were excellent. Overall, it was a great experience--I highly recommend them! read more

Could be the best Mexican restaurant in Rockford, at least among those accessible for Americans. It's easy to find a lot of real authentic places around here, but this is among the best for families and groups. Mexico Clasico has the favorites such as margaritas, burritos, and tacos. Good prices on most items. There's also a few vegetarian friendly items with their own menu section. At lunch it wasn't that busy. It may get busier later. This place isn't that authentic but it certainly beats Taco Bell and whatever. Maybe about as authentic as it can get for American preferences. This is kind of like the Tex-Mex in style. Has all the favorites you can think of. The drinks, the food, all that stuff. It's about $6 for the House Margarita. This is made with gold tequila and Grand Marnier, good stuff. A lot of good vegetarian items. It's $12 for the Burrito Vegetariano. Big one. This is a rolled spinach tortilla filled with grilled mushrooms and onions, served with black beans, guacamole, lettuce, sour cream which I left off, tomatoes, and rice. Good value for all you get. It's certainly okay for around here. There's plenty for meat eaters as well as vegetarians. read more

I am thoroughly impressed. I've tried many Mexican restaurants in the area, and have always left disappointed--UNTIL NOW. We had a party of 6 adults and 4 teenagers. My husband got the fajita skillet and loved it enough to take leftovers home. He made juevos rancheros in the morning. As for me, I tested the waters with what I consider as staples--chile rellenos, rice and beans. You can usually tell a lot by the rice and beans, and I knew immediately this place was legit. I forgot to check for flan. Doh! The place is CLEAN too. We stayed until closing and they were mopping up--properly. And with Fabuloso to boot. Felt like I was back home in SoCal. I'll be back! 10/10 recommend! read more

Great food and service. I have never been left there unsatisfied by the end of the night.

The food was so good! We were sat right away and our waitress was really friendly. We ordered a few different dishes but the guacamole stole the show. They have a guacamole cart that comes to your table and you can watch them make it fresh. I've never seen anything like it. I ordered a combination plate with a carne asada taco and a tamale. Both were really good and very flavorful. The portions were pretty big. read more

We decided to try this place for dinner on Sat evening. We arrived around quarter to 6pm, the parking lot was getting full. When we got to the hostess, she said it would be 40 mins wait for a table for three. Luckily there were some seating at the bar area, so we found a high top. Shortly, we were met with a friendly staff to take our drink order. The menu has typical Mexican fair but also some more unique items under la Cocina de la Abuela such as parillada, which was a combination grilled meat served on a tabletop grill (portion for two). We opted for the following: - Tableside Guacamole: freshly made in front of you. It's flavorful with garlics, onions, cilantro, and jalapeños, and served on a stone bowl that it was prepared in. - Combination plate with enchilada and taco asada. The taco was prepared well and topped with cilantro and onion. - Combo Fajita: steak+ chicken with bell peppers and onion on a hot plate - La Abuela Fajita: combination meats (Steak, chicken, chorizo, and pork) with bell peppers and onions. The food was flavorful. Meats from fajita were tender. The rice and bean were delicious. Finally, the portion was very generous. The fajita was probably enough for two people! Check them out and I would suggest to make reservation. read more

This is one of our favorite places to eat! Absolutely delicious! Friendly staff. Reasonable prices for the amount of food you get.

Food was good but the servers could have been more friendly. Our family didn't feel welcomed at all.

We got 2 burritos and a guava margarita. I loved how many margarita options there were. The burritos were both juicy and delicious! I will definitely be back. The server was very nice, helped me decide what to get, and price was reasonable. No pictures because I couldn't wait :) read more

This is the "tacos de asada". I must have gotten a batch with unseasoned meat because I had to use all the salsa given to give these tacos flavor which is kind of ridiculous considering the price. I brought my mother and youngest son here for dinner last week. We've been here before and it's turning into a family favorite. Due to the location, during heavy traffic times it can be difficult to get in and out of the parking lot. Just keep that in mind when you go. The restaurant has a nice, festive decor. The seating is spacious, you're not sitting shoulder to shoulder with the next table or packed in so tight that you're constantly bumping into your neighbors... which seems to be a trend in so many restaurants. The entrance can get crowded if it is busy. The food here is really good. When we went I had the Enchiladas Suizas. My son had the Enchiladas Rancheras. Mom ordered the Chimichanga de Mariscos. I think the Enchiladas Suizas are some of the best Enchiladas in town. In fact if you like enchiladas and don't order them, you're doing yourself a disservice. My son loved his Enchiladas Rancheras... He think's they're the best, but he's a teenage boy. They think what ever they're eating is the best. My mother, who is not a fan of Mexican food, actually requested Mexico Clasico just so she could get the Chimichanga de Mariscos. She raves about them, and is surprised anyone would order anything else. The service was good. Our waiter was attentive, but not intrusive. We had no complaints. read more

We ran across the restaurant several years ago. We live about 70 miles south of Rockford. Every time we head to Rockford for dinner and shopping, we say we are going to try something different. However, we always seem to end up here! When you pull up to this place, it definitely looks like a hole in the wall. With over grown weeds and trash in the flower beds, seems like a big mistake. But once inside, it's an authentic Mexican restaurant. All the staff are very friendly. The margaritas are great. And the food is out of this world! Never had a bad experience or meal here yet. Definitely 5 stars! read more

We love it here! My son also approved. Everything we have ordered from here has been really good and the horchata is the best we've ever had!! read more

Mexico Classico is one of my top favorites for Mexican food in the area. The place can seat large groups inside. Get the cheese dip and tableside guacamole to go along with your complimentary chips and salsa. I have tried the steak tacos (amazing), the Fajitas and the Coctel de Camarones. All are worth trying! The Margarita with the Corona in it is a must! read more

After being outside for hours this place is a great cool down. My Aunt's recommended that we get some ice cream and we ended up here lol afternoon snack kinda ;) I've never been here so my cousin said it was a good spot. We shared the ultimate nachos (2 platters really big one chicken and one beef), we also had margaritas with tequila not corona (it's better with tequila), and 2 fried ice creams. The restaurant is clean and bright with vibrant art work. The food tasted delicious, but the service was kinda slow. There's 2 floors as well and they offer fresh guacamole made right at your table side. Next time I'll try the tacos or burritos when I visit Rockford. read more

I eat there regularly. Today I ordered a margarita and my meal. The waiter delivered my drink. I told him I usually get brain freeze from these frozen margaritas. He acted confused like he's never heard of brain freeze before. Next thing I observe is my waiter has a different waitress take over the rest of my service. Are people this naive in Rockford? read more

The food was amazing, especially the fresh made at your table guacamole. Waitress was very nice.

Easily some of the best tacos in Rockford! Everyone that works there is also very nice! They make the guacamole table side and ask how you would like it prepared. Super fresh and good. For dinner we got steak, chicken, and fish tacos and they were all so awesome. The sauces for the steak and fish tacos were spicy and great! Margaritas are also awesome! read more

Food was average Tex-mex - and the service was absolutely HORRENDOUS! Server forgot my cheese, forgot my limes, forgot my hot sauce. Had to wait an extraordinary amount of time for my refill of sprite. I'm sorry, but for $50 my wife and I expect good service - that's not too much to ask. They've made their last dollar from me. NEVER GOING BACK! They lost a customer! Food is overpriced...they nickel and dime you for everything, and the service sucks! If you choose to go anyway, don't say I didn't warn you. read more

Just left a pathetic place for a restaurant!!!! Gabriel was rude, service was terrible!!!!! Good luck first and last time

You cannot go wrong here! This place never disappoints. I frequent Clasico with a work mate and he and I are both Vegetarians and they have great selections to accommodate us. They also have the freshest salsa! I highly recommend you try their habanero salsa. It is very spicy but made so well! They also make their tortillas fresh which is always a bonus. The restaurant is so cool inside as well, very unique. The Staff is always extremely attentive. I cant say this is my favorite mexican spot in Rockford, but it is absolutely one of them. Rockford has so many great Mexican restaurants that all have things i love about them. Mexico Clasico has the best salsa hands down. I have never had drinks here, but hope to so i can compare theirs against the competition lol. I give this place very high praise though. You should absolutely give them shot. read more
