Cookie butter chai
Sydni K.

I've been seeing Cupcakes Boom a lot on my Instagram feed, and I really wanted to give it a try. Came in on a Saturday morning before 8am, and it was fairly empty inside. There were lots of treats out, including discounted pastries from the day prior. There was ample parking in the lot, including designated stalls for Cupcakes Boom customers. The shop is very clean with seating inside. I got the cookie butter chai latte. The chai flavor was good, but man this drink was sweet! I generally have a sweet tooth, but even this drink was way too sweet for me. I don't know what I was thinking getting an already sweet drink and adding cold foam on top. That was definitely on me though, and I need to come back to try the same drink less sweetened without the cold foam. Overall, I could tell the drink had good flavor, but it was just really sweet.

Macarons

Cute space. We got there a little so the display case was empty. They just macarons and some pies. We were hoping to try some cupcakes or other goodies. We ended up with just Mac's and they were all delicious.

Cute cupcake, and macaroon store across the parking lot from where we're eating dinner. We stopped in quickly before they were going to close and bought some macaroons, a red velvet cupcake, and a stuffed cookie. Ambience was nice and bright inside. Loved the vibe. It was pink and white. Service was fast and she was very nice are looking forward to eating all the goodies!

I'll try this next time

Such a cute place! I love this cupcake saloon. They also have macaroons in generous sizes. Right next to the candy factory too. Team was extremely helpful to help us out and answered all our questions. We tried the red velvet, the Lilikoi, and the strawberry cupcake, they were amazing. The texture and the cream reminds me of Susie's cakes, but with more flavor. We also ordered chai, matcha, and a tea latte, also yummy, but next time I'll ask for a less sweet version, yes we will be back for sure.

Super cute hole-in-the-wall bakery with awesome cupcakes, macarons, cookies, various desserts, and specialty drinks! This is a business that I'm happy to frequent because of quality products and great service. Cupcakes, Boom! is local-owned, woman-owned, and Kanaka-owned (Native Hawaiian), and their products and service are AMAZING! I love the fun colors and designs, and the shop is very clean. I tried a no-bake ube cheesecake in a cup. This dessert uses monk fruit to sweeten, and I loved the thick and creamy texture. My dad got a macaron, which was delicious too. So many interesting flavors to try! My cousin got an apple pie chai, which I was cautious of because it was after 7pm, and I can't handle much caffeine. But WOW! They literally blend down their house-made apple pie filling for this drink, and it was indeed BOOM!

BOOM! This place is so good! Family stopped in for the first time and walked away with a some great treats for our ride back to Kona. I got the Banana Cream Pie! It was awesome! Must stop when in the Hilo area.

Mango Sticky Rice Smoothie... Didn't make it out of the parking lot, had to turn around to buy another.

Open only 3 days a week, this has become one of my favorite stops on the way to Volcano (from…read moreHilo). In fact, except Madam Pele does NOT necessarily keep to the same schedule as the bakery, would try to time my Volcano drives to coincide with Friday, Saturday, or Sunday! Hahah. Today got a sampling of Mediterranean scones (savory with olives and delicious seasonings), croissants, danish, and my favorite... the ube cruffin. Holy Moly Batman... that one item was worth the drive alone! Since there really wasn't any real estate in our tummies, we split everything 3 ways... over the course of the next few hours. Two weeks later, still thinking about that ube cruffin! Would definitely do a repeat on that as well as the Medeterranean scones while trying other items. And as the nice couple infront of us in line mentioned, will have to return for the sister deli across the parking lot. Heard it was featured in Guy Hagi's food vlog. And if its good enough for Guy Hagi its where I want to be my next mealtime!

Thank you for making such an amazing pastry.

Two Ladies Kitchen - Getting our mochi fix

Great mochi! Best…read moremochi I've ever had. The mochi skin is soft and and chewy, not tough at all. The skin is the perfect thickness to not break and encapsulates the fillings to not spill out whether that be red bean, whole fresh strawberries, or brownies. The mochi is super fresh and bouncy. The texture bounces back when you bite into it. Every single mochi flavor was delicious. The lilikoi had a slight tartness from the passion fruit but was still plenty sweet from the mochi itself. The butterfly mochi was beautiful. It had red bean and a sweet crunch bar in the middle. Very tasty. Any of the fresh fruit mochis are a win as well. The mochis are whole fresh fruits (e.g. strawberries, grapes) encapsulated by mochi skin. It sounds weird but super delicious. Honestly, you can't go wrong with any of the mochi flavors. They are all delicious. A fan favorite in my party was the brownie (the pink one in the photo). Pro tip, you can order ahead over the phone instead of waiting in a line. Please visit this shop the next time you're in Hilo.

Strawberry mochi: 8/10, definitely the best one they have, we had about 4 but half were not ripe and the azuki bean did not help that much. The two sweet ones we did get were fantastic. Purple potato: 8/10, delicious! Perfect balance but we only got one :( Strawberry shortcake: 7/10 good, bit messy but tasty Brownie: 6/10 good, but really rich Mandarin orange, grape, persimmon - 3/10. These had no flavor, than mandarin was terrible bitter, the persimmon and grape were crunchy and didn't taste like anything The inside was nice but it's more of a walk in and go. It wasn't terrible but if the fruit was sweeter it would have been better. Maybe next time ^_^

At the rate people were buying, this house of flour, water, yeast, and salt would be out of bread in no time. We got two focaccia slices: goat cheese roasted pepper basil and an ali'i mushroom garlic. Both were chewy but airy at the same time. The mushroom was spicier than expected requiring bites of the goat cheese slice to cool the palete. The roasted peppers and basil added extra flavors to the richness of the goat cheese. Both were delicious, large slices of bread, and you should absolutely make a stop here, just make sure they're open. And get there early. These Hilo natives love their bread and there may not be much left if you get there late! For those of you familiar with Honolulu's famous Breadshop in Kaimuki, this may be slightly better, but don't take my word for it. Parking in whatever street parking you can find.

Their store is only open on Wed and Sat, so you should definitely plan ahead to visit this store on those days in the morning to have a better selection of bread choices. I tried their Asian Pear foccacia and it was absolutely amazing; pear, honey, and manchego cheese was a perfect harmony of sweet and savory flavors akin to well-balanced charcuterie board. Pane Nudo is a must try in Hilo. Highly recommend their foccacia bread!!!

Cute inviting Island atmosphere with perfectly baked sweet treats. I've stopped by 3 times so far and they have yet to disappoint me. I have tried a few of their selections and my favorites are the Lilikoi Cheesecake, Lemon and Butter Bars. If you are a fan of Lilikoi Cheesecake you need to try 808 Sweet Shacks version. Different than most that I have tried in a good way. The ratio of Cheesecake to graham cracker crust is perfect and Lilikoi was not too sweet or tart. I also love that the Lilikoi wasn't just a glaze added after. Consistency more of a gelatin. My favorite by far is the Lemon Bars. So so good. Tart lemon filling with the perfect I'm going to guess Shortbread crust with a little sprinkle of confectioners sugar to cut the tartness. Love it. Long story short, if you're in Hilo give this place a try. Fresh baked goodies made with the freshest local ingredients at a good price.
