Not super big place but a comfortable spot. Owner is super nice and down to earth as well. Makes it easy to come back! Had my favorite Pulp beer from Fieldwork. Also had a mozzarella and pesto sandwich from them and was much better than expected. Bread itself tasted/felt fresh with a good little toast. ( im sure it's packaged but still really good) I haven't tried the bahn mis yet from them but they do get them from Duc Huong who is very well known in the bay for bahn mi. Next time!

Unfortunately, the customer service, particularly when it comes to pickup orders, consistently leaves much to be desired. Nearly every time I place a pickup order, I'm left standing there without so much as a greeting or acknowledgment from the staff. Even a simple "We'll be with you in a moment" would go a long way. What's especially frustrating is that my drink is often already prepared and sitting there, yet no one calls out names or makes any effort to let customers know their orders are ready. The entire purpose of ordering ahead is to save time, but that convenience is completely lost when you're left waiting unnecessarily for a drink that's already been made. This isn't a one-time occurrence; it's happened consistently enough that it's become incredibly frustrating. I enjoy supporting this business, but the lack of basic customer acknowledgment and an efficient pickup process is disappointing. A little attentiveness and communication would make a significant difference in the overall experience.

Nothing fancy inside. I arrived too late in the afternoon when most items are already sold out, but not disappointed. Good menu selections and standard coffee/tea beverages. Cool. I ordered a mix of pastries/donuts/croissant. I tend to go for the chocolate coated stuff, plain croissants, jalapeños cheese ham pastries, etc. Wow, each peach were like giant donut pastries to me, probably about 4-5 inches big/good quality big donuts here. Nice. Purchase a minimum of $5 and you'll be able to use your credit cards. I paid in cash. Happy donuts. If I visit much earlier, I'll definitely go for coffee/tea, bagel sandwiches, and more. There aren't many tables and chairs inside, but you can still sit if you want. Tiny store. Happy employees. Parking lot is narrow, shared with other neighboring retailers. If you really want donuts and coffee or bagel, you're getting big pieces for sure. Love it.

They have quite a bit of seating. All their mochi doughnuts are displayed in a glass case. Unfortunately they did not have all the flavors available when I was there. I decided on the mango, biscoff, and fruity pebbles doughnuts. I also ordered a coconut pineapple smoothie and a peach green tea. I really liked that you can pick your level of sweetness. The young lady helping me was very kind. I asked her when the best time to come when all the flavors are available. She said in the early morning. Next time I'll stop by a little earlier so I can try some of the other doughnut flavors. All three mochi doughnuts were delicious. My favorite was the Biscoff flavor.

In addition to mochi donuts they sell hot dogs, coffee, and fruity tea. I was in the neighborhood so I stopped in for the first time on a Saturday afternoon. The shop was empty of customers; they must be busy in the mornings. They sell three donuts for $10.50, but they seemed to be out of quite a few flavors, so I ordered two chocolate and one Nutella. They are pre-made and stored in a glass case, unlike other places like Modo Hawaii that make them when you order. The donuts come in a nice box. They are large and dense and chewy, but weren't to my taste as I like them smaller and lighter, but that's just a personal preference. I'm not sure if I will go back, but I hope they do well at the Cottle location.

Located directly at the corner of S. Second St and E. William St, this family owned-and-operated coffeeshop is in the heart of downtown. Parking here during any given day can be quite challenging; especially during the workweek as there are various offices around here as well as being in close proximity to San Jose State University. Business hours are 7am-4pm seven days a week. I came here during the morning of Friday 9/4/2026 at around 10:00am. Fortunately I was able to find a nearby parking spot but as a reminder, meters are everywhere. The exterior of the business showcases their business name complete with several planter boxes, colorful outdoor seating, and umbrellas to shield out the sun. The interior is small and quaint yet there is still ample seating for roughly two dozen customers. It is one of the smaller coffeeshops I have been to and can get quite loud. So if you're focused on studying or conducting a virtual meeting, this may not be the place for you. Since I was saving my appetite for breakfast somewhere else, I ended up ordering a drink. And to those that have been here highly praised their "Pandan Latte". This is Asias answer to a vanilla latte as they use sweetened pandan-infused extract to give it a very unique taste. I chose 2% milk and wanted to go with an iced version as it was a relatively warm summer morning. This place does offer many more unique offerings that include lattes made with banana cream. Piloncillo coffee (widely known as café de olla), and Madagascar flavors. Keep in mind that this place does not accept cash so make sure you have your cards ready to go and of course, they take Apple/Google Pay. I will say that my Pandan Latte was made to absolute perfection as the taste was not too sweet and not too bitter. The service was also above average as this small business had a very festive vibe to it. I also wanted to add that they sell a nice assortment of whole bean coffee, teas, and other various merchandise on their website, https://www.academiccoffee.com/ as well as in their brick-and-mortar stores. Furthermore, they opened a second location on Winchester Blvd/Forest Ave right near Valley Fair Mall in Santa Clara. With excellent service, prime location, and delicious beverages, I am giving "Academic Coffee" in San Jose a perfect five-star rating.
