Visiting relatives in Jackson, they recommended Broad Street for takeout lunch so I treated and…read morepicked up the order. This review is strictly based on my Shrimp Po-Boy which had the worst fried shrimp I've ever experienced. It was cooked beyond belief and felt like chewing rubber. Breading was probably tasty had the order been properly cooked but could not tell. I had my wife taste a piece, she confirmed my opinion. Bread was buttered and grilled but did not have the feel of a real po-boy bun as if it were on the old side which is strange as the place is a bakery. I don't know what dressing was used, tasted like plain mayo. This is a strong do-not-ever-order recommendation. Fries were good, probably cut fresh. If I ate in, the order would be sent back to the kitchen. My replacement would likely have been better but QC on the takeout was lacking. I understand it's a popular spot in Jackson and was certainly full when I picked up the order. My meal, sadly, was quite forgettable. Other meals that were part of the order seemed OK but, in my eyes, uninspired. Edit: Heard from the manager with with an apology and offer to make up for the issue to my local relatives since I'm only a visitor to the area. I'm convinced that this was a one-off issue and greatly appreciate the manager reaching out. I'll give them another try on my next visit and will update things accordingly.

We order Newk's all the time for our six-person office meetings, and let me tell you, every single time I'm thrilled, NOT!!! Out of the 20+ orders we've placed, they have impressively managed to get every single one wrong. Truly a talent. And of course, we never have time to go back and fix their "creative interpretations" of our meals--because who doesn't love surprises, right? I'd only recommend this place if you enjoy receiving the exact opposite of what you ordered. Oh, and the French dip with no au jus? Adorable. That's just a sad little roast beef sandwich pretending to be something it's not. And with more bread than meat, no less! A real culinary masterpiece.

Almost nothing but bread. 1 and 1/2 small slices of meat. That's it. Like so little meat that it's sad. Just really sad because I picked this location for just that....it's location. I asked for no creole mustard. Of course it got put on there anyway. The lady at the counter was nice and friendly and did her job. But unfortunately the kitchen was a miss this time. Again, I had to eat it and go because I just didn't have the energy to make complications, so I choked it down. Service: The actual service was fine. No complaints. Atmosphere: Fine. No complaints. Restroom: Disgusting and filthy with a leak problem or a lack of cleaning problem. Horrible. Clean it up. Overall: I give 2 stars only because of the tea, which seemed good, and the soup I guess. And the politeness. Maybe the other food is OK - but the french dip was a miss. This location needs help. I do feel like the value was cheated from me this time. Value was not there today. $12.99 for a sandwich with measley portion of meat? Owner - how would you feel if I served you that? I want you to order it and see what I mean. Really just.....disappointing. This is not a french dip how it's supposed to be. Newk's, you let me down this time.

I got the strawberry chicken salad, which is usually one of my favorites. This one was by far one of the worst I've ever had. To start, the little bit of chicken that was on there seemed like the leftovers from what they had after they made sandwiches. It was very lacking in flavor. The balsamic vinaigrette (which I usually love) was very bitter and had the worst flavor. They really need to change that recipe! The pecans were supposed to be "candied", which really elevates the flavors of a strawberry salad. There were very few, and they were not candied, but just regular salted tiny pieces. Overall the combination of all the flavors just didn't work, and made for a boring tastebud experience. IF I ever go back I'll try something else. As far as the service, that was disappointing too. The young lady at the register was very nice, but everyone else could really use some customer service training. After eating, I went back to the counter to get a to-go box. I stood there for 3-4 minutes, and had numerous employees walk right past me and not even make eye contact. Even the manager that was in the kitchen making food looked over at me and said nothing. I was trying to wait patiently, but after a few minutes, I finally flagged someone down to get the to-go box. It doesn't seem like they care much about the customer experience, and that usually makes up for lackluster food.

The country fried steak was crispy on the outside and hot on the inside and had plenty of gravy on top. Also, the gravy was exactly the right consistency. The coleslaw was excellent and the green beans were hot as well, and both were seasoned well. The unsweetened tea was very tasty and fresh. The burger was cooked to medium as requested. The bacon and cheese were great toppings as was the crisp lettuce and what tasted like local tomatoes. One of the best things about the burger was the homemade white bun--(also served with the country steak). It tasted like buns my mom used to make. What a great accidental find. Rooster's is absolutely awesome. I had the burger and onion rings and both were damn good. The burger was simple, cooked right, and exactly what a burger should be. The onion rings were thin, crispy, and really good. My daughter got the chicken tenders and they were massive. I mean actually massive. More importantly, they were delicious. The fries were hand cut and just as good. Service was friendly, the place had a cool neighborhood feel, and it filled up fast. Parking is definitely at a premium, so get there early if you can or be prepared to wait a little.
