While we were in Culpepper visiting from Fredericksburg, we stumbled across this amazing gem! My boyfriend and I looooove cheese and just had to go in. We were immediately greeted with smiles and samples of a cheese the owner was cutting for a patron. I forgot what cheese he handed us to try but it was delicious! We were eyeing the brownies and then also handed a sample to try. They had so many amazing options, meats, and quiche. They even had a cute seating area tucked in the back for you to sit down and enjoy food and beverages. We ended up walking away buying half a Brie and a brownie. We just finished half of our Brie at home and it was honestly so good. We will absolutely be back to try some more of their cheesy goodness. read more

Incredible store/eatery in Culpepper. They have an amazing wide selection of cheeses to choose from along with wines and other craft goods. We settled in after ordering some cheese to take home and had a grilled cheese sandwich. It had this amazing tomato pesto like spread that really sealed the deal on the flavor. Was almost like it was dipped in tomato soup without the soup. Really enjoyed our visit here, will definitely be going back when we're in town. read more

This place is incredible. Super friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable staff. The interior is cozy and packed with cheeses, meats, crackers, wine, and more. We were offered samples at the counter as soon as we came in, but the staff is super genuine and not overbearing at all. The cheese is delicious and they have a huge variety. The real gem is their food; they have a rotating menu of specials, we got the toastie, turkey and Gouda sandwich, and the Italian sandwich. All of it was delicious, we went completely silent as soon as the food was set down and stayed silent until it was finished. Side note: the cheese toastie was genuinely one of the best things we've ever eaten. Went to the Culpeper Cheese Company during the week for a sandwich and conversation. Had a most delightful tete-a-tete with the owner, Jeffrey. He knows a lot about cheese, the cheese industry, and pairings and it was so much fun to see his energy and enthusiasm for his chosen profession. We love to visit this store when we're in town! The cheese selection is lovely and there's always something new to try. On our most recent visit, Jeffrey was excited to give us a taste of 3 different cheeses. We purchased sizes that he custom cut for all three, then we added a longtime favorite. So happy with our cheese choices, we stayed for lunch. The store has a couple of small seating areas, to the side and back. We sat in the back and felt set apart from the store so we could enjoy our lunch without shoppers all around us. We took our time and enjoyed a chatty, leisurely lunch. For lunch we chose 2 sandwiches- both of which we loved. The Italian had a beautiful selection of Italian meats and cheese. It was served on a ciabatta roll. The flavors were outstanding - so much nicer than typical Italian subs. The Chicken Curry Salad was a show stopper. The salad was perfectly flavored with curry, topped with a yummy plum chutney, and served on toasted sourdough (bread was our choice - it was the right choice). We savored each bite. I was visiting a dear friend in Culpeper and I'm so glad she introduced me to the Culpeper Cheese Company. During my 5 day stay, we visited the shop 3 times. The Sweet Potato and Gouda grilled cheese is so delicious and I'd also recommend the 5-cheese grilled cheese and the Parisian. Super cute little wine, cheese and beer store. I stopped in here with friends for lunch yesterday and was pleased with our experience. I was able to sample a flight of 3 local beers ($6) and purchased a panini. My friends went with the cheese board (see pic) and thought it was exquisite. We found the Culpeper Cheese Company last weekend by accident while walking around town after staying near a winery nearby. We had a lot of fun in the store- we got free samples of several different (delicious) cheeses. The woman working the cheese counter clearly loved cheese, and she gave us lots of instructions. We swung back here on our way home to pick up our favorite cheeses, a baguette, and some Italian meats and had a great snack when we got home. They also had a large wine selection, but I didn't look too closely (the cheese must have distracted me). Fun place- I wish I had somewhere like this near me! read more

My friends and I were recently visiting Culpeper and ran into the Culpeper Cheese Company for the first time. We love beer and were excited about the selection and the ability to taste local / regional offerings on tap. As my friend and I were sampling some of the available beer, one of the employees approached our two year olds (my daughter, his son) and asked them if they wanted some water. Like all two year olds, they enthusiastically replied "yes!" and were each rewarded with a bottle of water. They both drank about a sip and then continued doing whatever it is two year olds do. Much to our surprise, when we went to pay for our flights of beer, we saw two bottles of water tacked on for about $6. I have two problems with this 1) I would never pay for "spring water" in a place that has reasonable municipal water 2) If you want to sell my daughter a bottle of water I would never buy for myself, and which she won't drink, ask the person who's paying for it (me), not her Anyway, this really pissed me off and ruined what would otherwise have been a four star experience. read more

After an early morning juant out of the city, we made a spur of the moment decision to investigate downtown Culpeper and took a little detour. We were originally just trying to find a place off the highway to grab a bite to eat, but as we got into the small downtown area, we were a bit overwhelmed by all the options so we parked in one of the lots and began wandering around Davis Street. I had checked Yelp! but none of the restaurants listed jumped out at me. This cheese shop was the first store we walked entered. We were immediately greated by friendly faces offering us samples of various cheeses as well as background about the cheesemakers behind each bite. They also had wine available for sampling towards the back. There was quite a selection fo wine, bear, and a few mixers. As we were checking out, we asked where a good place to eat lunch was and were alerted to a Fondue for 2 special. I explained that my one previouse experience with fondue had left me wanting, but the gentleman (who I definitely believe to be the owner) explained that his was nothing like that and was quite good. I acquiesced, feeling a bit adventurous and decided, "Sure, I'll try eating at a sort-of-restaurant with no actual menu." So we did. First, we had the sandwich special which they called 'Sumptuous Spain' that had olives and chorizo as well as, duh, cheese. This was nothing compared to the downright delicious baked/fondue Camembert that came after. It had thinly sliced garlic, rosemary, and fresh cracked pepper which matched wonderfully with the crackers. It was too much even for too people. Talk about richness overload. In looking up the place later, I discovered that this lunch-thing was a bit of a pilot program and that they hope to have full kitchen hours and a menu soon. This place definitely has promise. They seem to have hired thoughtful staff which is a great first step. Keep up the good work, guys! Kudos for having such a local focus too! read more

This reviews is purely for the cheese buying experience. We stopped in Culpeper for a quick bit on our wine tasting weekend. After touring several vineyards, it finally dawned on us to take our own cheese and crackers to enjoy with our wine. And that's where the cheese shop comes in. We walk in and are immediately greeted cheerfully by Ruth, who was manning the cheese station. After tasting the offerings of the day,we told her that we'd like to assemble a cheese sampling to take to a vineyard. She made some excellent suggestions and even let us taste the cheese before buying. She helped us pick out crackers and made sure we had plates, knifes and napkins (none of which we thought to take). If I ever made my way to Culpeper, I would stop here again. And the cheeses we bought : Saint Angel and English Cheddar, both incredibly delicious. read more
