We were looking for a bakery to order from for a small wedding. We found Walker Bakeshop nearby and decided to give it a try. All of our communications with the owners have been stellar. We stopped in to try a few items and were blown away by taste and texture of everything. My partner even hates carrot cake, but I forced him to try it since it was so good and even he loved it!--the cream cheese frosting was unbelievable! We are so excited to have them at our wedding. As avid cookers and bakers at home, it takes a lot to impress us, and this bakeshop certainly did. And to address the 1 start review I see from someone, most bakeries have been around the $8-$15 price range for fresh loaves of bread for some time now. Considering this is still within the "DC" area I'd say that's average pricing. No prices on the website? --a lot of places don't list prices because they fluctuate too much. The moment you walk in, you are greeted with this amazing bakery aroma and see bakers hard at work making fresh pastries/pies/etc. their open kitchen layout allows customers a sneak peak of their baking process. You can see everything is homemade with quality ingredients and this translates to some of the best pastries I've had! Bacon and cheddar scone ($6.25) - real chunks of bacon (not just bacon bits) and delicious cheddar cheese infused into this biscuit/scone. It's a bit flakey while also having a soft + fluffy interior. flavorwise, the bacon, cheese, and butter-y scone blends so nicely together. Burbon pecan scone ($5) - delicious scone base mixed with some currants and big chunks of pecans topped with a burbon glaze. What's not to love? Soft, buttery, flakey, and not too sweet. And the burbon glaze adds a hearty and deep flavor that complements the pecan/scone nicely. I would come back for this!! Whiskey and rye cookie ($4.25) - 80% chocolate chunks mixed with a rustic cookie base. You can really taste the whiskey in the cookie dough. It's a fun cookie! Wow, yet another hidden gem of Sperryville! Try to get to the Bakeshop early--the smell of freshly baked the sourdough rye was intoxicating. I opted for the cheese and sourdough onion bread (amazing!) but the true test for this Jersey boy was the everything bagel. So legit! Tried their goods for the first time and we will definitely drive the distance for more delicious treats. Had the ham and cheese turnover and it was excellent. It tasted of Paris! Took home a loaf of the Virginia sourdough and broke it up as soon as we got home. With some good butter on it, wow! So happy we have a gem like Walker's in our neck of the woods. We stopped at this bake shop on a whim after camping at Shenandoah and it was absolutely incredible! The whiskey rye chocolate chip cookie was divine, and so was the lemon blueberry scone. A few friends and I stopped by here after camping in Shenandoah for the weekend. Lovely shop with delicious bagels and baked goods. The service was excellent, and the employees so kind! Located in a really cool market area so we browsed art shops and picked up coffee as we munched on our baked goods. We will absolutely stop by again if ever in the area. The lovely new Marketplace in Sperryville's River District is home to Walker Bakeshop, a charming family-owned local bakery that combines premium ingredients, old family recipes, and hard work to create the most delicious baked goods. We had long been patrons of Walker Bakeshop at the Rappahannock Farmer's Market and were ecstatic when we learned that they were finally opening a brick-and-mortar location. From the very first visit, it's clear that owners Doug and Dori Walker's high standards are met through the care they put into every loaf of bread, pastry and bagel that comes out of the oven. Their bread selection includes wonderfully chewy fresh bagels, fluffy challah, hearty wheat loaves and tangy sourdoughs. As a native New Yorker, I'm a total food snob when it comes to these kinds of things and I'll be the first one to say that Walker Bakeshop knows what they're doing and does it well. Their moist babkas and babka muffins are overflowing with chocolate, cinnamon, and jam that simply melts in your mouth. Whenever we have friends visiting from out of town, the babka muffins are the first thing we stock up on. Fruit jam is another specialty, made in small batches with berries and other local produce for tasty spreads on the bakery's freshly made breads. And the bakery tempts even more with yummy black-and-white cookies, flaky scones full of lemon and blueberries, and my kids' personal favorite - "morning glory muffins" chock full of raisins, shaved coconut and nuts. But my all time favorite is their almond croissants - truly exceptional and a great weekend treat slightly warmed up with a cup of tea. The quaint café seating inside is a peaceful place to relax with their exceptional pastries, a cup of coffee, and a good book. Walker Bakeshop is an outstanding neighborhood treasure thanks to Doug and Dori's incredible attention to detail and their use of fresh, quality ingredients.
