Today my husband and I were saddened by the news the owner passed away on July 29th. We have been coming here to Cully's since 2018. The biggest reason that kept us coming back was the staff and the owner who were always consistently there. They felt like home and familiar to us especially during covid. We loved coming in and seeing the owner sitting at the same seat with the staff always being the same loving faces. The food was great and always felt homemade. The different options and the homemade salsa is just perfection. We love the staff and food here. We will see it sad to go if that happens and we are praying that it doesn't. My boyfriend and I came here for breakfast while we waited for our cars to be serviced at Toyota. As soon as we walked in, we're greeted by a man who I am assuming is the owner? He was very friendly and told us to sit wherever we wanted. The waitresses were very attentive and the food came out fairly quickly. Overall ambience is very welcoming and comfortable. I ordered the huevos rancheros which were delicious! I chose O'Brien potatoes as my side. A great choice! Their homemade salsa is also very good! Stopped by here while waiting for my car to receive service down the street. Ordered from the menu. I got two eggs over hard with hash browns and sausage. It also came with toast and I got sour dough. The breakfast was average. The hash browns were bland yet crunchy (that's a bonus!) the sausage I'd give a 4-super tender and flavorful. They did make the eggs correctly and they were hard. This was a happy thing for me because that does not always happen. Overall, it's a friendly sit down eatery and I'd come again. The interior is old the walls look dirty, this was definitely a no frills kinda place. The service was good and and the food came out fairly quick. My wife got the eggs Benedict and hash browns. There was nothing spectacular about this dish the sauce had no flavor the hash brown was a nice portion. I ordered the veggie omelette I added spinach which was not included and I added egg whites only. This was actually really tasty the veggies tasted fresh and the portion was big enough for me and the wife to share. If your looking for a sit down home cooked breakfast this is for you. Plenty of parking with some outdoor seating mostly for those waiting for a table. I ordered a corn beef hash with eggs and hash browns. Hash browns were pretty good. I pretty mush finished them. Sometimes I do not depending on how they are cooked. Some places tend to undercook them. These were cooked all the way through with a nice crunchy edge. Corn beef hash with eggs was also good. Service was decent. Staff was friendly. It was not crowded with plenty of tables and a lot of locals as the wait staff seemed to be know many of them. Came here and got the corned beef hash with hash browns, eggs over medium and an english muffin. Its a good deal at $8.95. The eggs were a perfect medium, the corned beef was the canned type which I'm fine with, i just wish it was grilled harder and had more of a crust. The hash browns could have also been grilled harder. What i also like is the large water glasses, it allows you to not run out of water and also lets the servers pay attention to other things like coffee and your food. It really makes a difference. There is lots of parking in the strip mall that its located too which is also a bonus. Overall a nice old school diner with reasonable prices and friendly service. It's located in the same complex as O'Reillys--if you're on Poway Rd., and reach Community, you have already passed it. It's near the community theater. Plenty of parking, not a busy lot. The menu selection is concise. It looks like they make their own sausages and burgers, but if they run out of something, you'll have to try and order next time. Our first visit, I had french toast which came with 2 eggs cooked how I want them and hash browns. (Other options are breakfast potatoes or potatoes o'brien). Husband had the grilled pork chops with 2 eggs, choice of potatoes, and toast. He also ordered a side of kielbasa. Portions sizes are generous. Our second visit, I had country fried steak, husband had kielbasa plate and a side of hamburger patty, and mini-me had the Mickey pancake. Total hidden gem! This place has such good food at such good prices! I have been coming here for a few years and every time i go I am greeted with a smile, food is delicious and I never have to sell some jewelry to pay for my meal. We ordered omelettes and a side of biscuits and gravy and corned beef hash. The omelets were stuffed full and pretty good size. I got the home fries and wasn't a huge fan. Personal preference but I like them crispy and smaller. These were soft and big chunks, i only ate a few. The corned beef hash was very well made and cooked. It was crispy on the edges and delicious. The star of the breakfast was the biscuit and gravy. As good as everything else was, the gravy was so delicious! You have to try it if you like B&G. We planned on meeting friends and needed wheelchair access which is the only reason I chose this place. Parked and walked right by the entrance...ha As we entered there was only one couple at a table that noticed we walked by and gave us some good natured ribbing. We had eaten here years ago and decided to try it again since my sons had come for a visit. The food was nothing amazing, especially considering the prices. It was just okay. All of our plates cost $16.50 each. For three of us, the bill showed up at $73.79 including tax! This is more than $24.50 per person before tip. Breakfast is usually not this expensive. I was literally shocked and manually added it up to be sure it was not a mistake but unfortunately, it was not! They charge $4.40 for coffee-regular potted coffee, not a mocha or anything. Soda was $5.50, and a glass of orange juice $4.50. One of my sons wanted something warm to drink, so also got a hot chocolate-for another $4.40. I did not notice the drink prices or expect them to be that high or I would not have ordered anything but water. Another strange thing was a couple of our plates came with toast and we asked for sourdough. The server said it normally comes with two pieces but did we just want one so they wouldn't have to throw it out if we didn't eat it all. We had some errands to run in Poway yesterday and as luck would have it... at Lunch time. We fired up Yelp in the "Lively Center" parking lot and the first thing that popped up was "Cully's"... right behind us in that Center. We could not tell if they were serving inside dining... so I parked and went in to ask. Just two other couples were there and the owner cheerfully invited us in. This is not fancy... a plain "meat and potatoes" type of Breakfast/Lunch diner... and that is exactly what we had in mind. I ordered the "Chili Cheeseburger" (served stacked open face and smothered in Chili. My wife ordered a Grilled Ham and cheese with Onion Rings. Perfectly grilled and a huge portion of onion rings. I actually exclaimed out loud "Oh My God" when the gal brought my Chili Cheeseburger. It was HUGE. The big worry with Chili in a restaurant is everybody makes it differently... and you never know what the taste is going to be unless you try it. This was an excellent Chili. Served on top of a 1/2 pound delicious meat patty... and smothered with grated Cheddar Cheese. My wife was not fond of the breading on the Onion rings... but they were beautiful. My fries were dusted with some type of seasoning salt and were very good. Again the portion size on the fries was HUGE. We both agreed if we come back we'll split an entre. When I was younger I could know this off with ease... but not these days. But I did give it hell... and left only some bread and remnants of chili. I only could handle about half of the fries. The prices are amazing for today's world. This is excellent service, excellent food, and fantastic value... all in one. Can't wait to get back over to Poway to try their breakfast. read more

Parking is pretty readily available in a shared parking lot that a number of nearby establishments share. The prices are reasonable, so breakfast won't break the bank here. We stopped in while waiting for our tires to be installed at Evans Tires (where Barry was awesome but that's for another review) on. Saturday early afternoon. It was a toss up between here and Swami's but this place had 1 more star and one less dollar sign. We walked in to the hole in the wall decor and were instantly excited because we're always looking for the mom and pop shops with delicious home cooking! He got the big biscuits and gravy and I got the Italiano omelet. His biscuit was so fluffy, it was a sheetpan style biscuit. The gravy was perfect. I ordered their "Chicken Fried Steak" ($9.95). Once I sliced through the crunchy coated beef, I noticed its two layers of meat inside, so it was thick enough to fulfill my craving. The thick white gravy on top tasted rich and slightly peppery. This tasty meal is served with eggs and I went with the hash browns. Also, you do have a choice between biscuits or toast. The "Veggie Omelet" ($9.95). If you're in for a hearty meal this is for you, Its bedded with grilled bell peppers, mushrooms, onions, avocado and cheese. The scramble eggs are soft and fluffy. I believe salsa is included with your order, which helps to give it an added flavor. As soon as we walked in we were welcomed with friendly service and I was happy that there was no wait prior to seating during peak time of breakfast. What I like here is the big platter portions of food, that we ended up with leftovers to go.
