Ari, who seems to be the senior person at CCP, seems to know what is needed for pools. But the people sent for weekly service were, for us, terrible - didn't bother to open the pool cover completely when "cleaning" and left piles of debris still in the pool. They also added a horrifying amount of chlorine to our salt pool after their poor maintenance left it cloudy and we'd called about the cloudiness. I could go on, but it was so very bad, and disappointing because Ari did seem very competent. Giving one star for Ari and a second star only because they calmly and quietly agreed to refund our final month when we left their service (and paid about $400 for the new folks to fix all the disasters they created); it was the bare minimum of what they should have done, but they agreed quickly and so - second star for their person who made that decision. read more

We had problems with our pool equipment not working and our exterior lights. We thought it was an electrical problem so called an electricion. He could not fix the problem, so we called the Crystal Clear Pool service. They responded right away and fixed everything in a matter of minutes. They were polite and efficient. I was referred to them by the fellow who usually helps me with pool issues. The reason being he did not have a drill powerful enough to handle concrete/slumpstone. One of the anchors to the pool cover roller had broken away and needed to be re-set. I called Crystal Clear and the owner was very ambivalent. When I told Carol the owner this was a one-time repair issue you could sense she could careless. She said someone would get back to me "next week" when in the neighborhood. I called back the next week after not hearing from anyone and got "oh ya I remember" and still not commit to a date or time to inspect the job. You could tell by the silence she was blowing me off. I would never do business with these people. I got someone to do my job. Have been spreading the word about the rude owner and her business. read more

Wow, I've received not only quality service for my pool but also educated by Steve and Carol, the owners, on pool maintenance and available options-being a "first-time" pool owner I had no idea how to care for a pool. Steve and Carol have been very helpful with my many questions that keep coming up and I appreciate getting my questions answered without pressure to purchase additional equipment. I tried a salt water pool @ a friend's house & was curious to know more, so Steve came out to explain "just the facts" without a "sales job" and that impressed me. Since I received great pool maintenance service I felt confident having Crystal Clear install a salt chlorine system and I love my sparkling pool! I reached out to multiple "well known" pool companies in Marin County to obtain quotes for solar. In many instances they were weeks out on being able to provide a quote (or came out but couldn't schedule the job for weeks). Crystal Clear made my decision easy by providing a competitive quote and also fitting me into their schedule quickly since we had ongoing construction in our yard and we wanted to get the job completed ASAP. Steve the owner was very responsive with a quote and Ari and his team were even faster when it came to the installation itself. The guys arrived on time, were thoughtful with the installation and the system is performing well. Crystal Clear Pools resuraced our pool in May 2018 and did an excellent job. They applied a pebble surface, new tile and coping and replaced the old plumbing. They completed the job on schedule and stayed within the written estimate. The crew was excellent and cleaned up the job site every day. I used Crystal Clear Pool for 3 months after I moved into my new house. I had no experience with pools and for three months the technician complained that my pool was "high maintenance". The boss (who never showed up) constantly tried to up-sell me on services or equipment (which I know today were not required). I finally ended up with yellow algae - The boss (who never bothered understanding the issue and never showed up) sent me a cancellation of service letter. I was shocked by how this was handled - walking away from a problem and not being accountable for their work, but I assumed that my pool was indeed high maintenance... well it is not. I tried to understand what was going on. So I went to Don Johnson's store in Novato. They were very helpful, asked me to bring a sample of the water, I also brought a picture of the green pool (yes, yellow algae makes your pool look green if you have a bluish bottom). They told me what kind of algae it was and what to do to get rid of it. They analyzed the water - there was no chlorine (2 days after Crystal Clear came by). So I bought a case of chlorine and a small test kit. They told me what to do and how frequently. Within 2 days, the pool cleared up from the yellow algae, it did require some elbow grease brushing the pool, adding the proper chemicals and running the filter for 24 hours. I decided to keep taking care of the pool on my own, which I have been doing now for 2 months. At first I was testing the chlorine every day as I had turned paranoid, then once a week. I am proud to say that my pool in now crystal clear, and is not high maintenance at all. Chlorine does evaporate slightly but it is normal, so I keep the floater supplied with chlorine tablets and add a gallon when the chlorine level goes down. I also bring a sample to Don Johnson's pool service every other week or so, they double check my testing and make sure that I do the right thing - plus they check for the other stuff (like conditioner...). I buy my chlorine there and they are not cheap on free advice and recommendations - they will also test your water free and tell you what you need to add. Net of it, Crystal Clear did a horrible job and was not accountable. The work required to take care of the pool is minimal, although I like to brush it weekly so I probably spend an hour a week. I became knowledgeable in the last few months - knowledgeable enough to know what a good and bad pool service is. read more

I have a 35,000 gallon lap pool in Marin. I have had 1. A pump 2. solar heating 3. a pool sweep and now 4. a new salt generating system installed over the past year by Crystal Clear Pools in Novato.. I have experienced a number of different pool experts and consultants over the years but none with the integrity and thoroughness of Steve, Ari and George at Crystal Clear Pools. I am a busy attorney & generally do not write reviews but after reading the lousy review on this site I felt that something was called for reasons of balance and accuracy. These people are fine! I've been using Crystal Clear Pool Service for over 13 years, and have always been so pleased with the service. The owner, Steve, has always been available any time. I needed him. In 2000, when we bought the house, they installed a salt water chlorination system that has been absolutely fabulous. My kids' blond hair doesn't turn green; you can swim with your eyes open. This spring he resurfaced the pool with Pebble Sheen, and installed a small gas heater to supplement our solar heating to prolong the swimming season. I especially want to acknowledge his employee, George, who is so conscientious and good-natured. Not only does he do terrific work, but he is a pleasure to have around!
