On a Saturday evening, we found plenty of parking on the street and there's a nearby garage as well. This location is near the train tracks in downtown Kirkwood so you might even see a train rolling by. We received a friendly greeting upon entering, and the staff was very quick to bring us our food. They have a great selection of soups, salads, sandwiches, pizza, and appetizers. I love the warm goat cheese appetizer. They have suggested salad combinations, or you can build your own, which is what I chose on this visit. They have a wide selection of salad dressings and several that I have tasted have been quite good. I always get the cornbread croutons. For beverages, they do have alcohol, fountain soft drinks, and three different types of fresh brewed tea; including regular tea, green tea, and a tangerine orange iced tea. This was my first time at this location. It's really easy to get into and there is tons of parking nearby. When we walked in, it was easy to order and place our order for the food. I will say if you never been there before I take a look at the menu beforehand. Because when I walked in, the guy asked me three separate times, but I was ready to order and I was still looking at the menu. The prices are OK for the economy that we are in. There's a lot of seating, but a weird vibe. Is it upscale because of the decor and wine? A cafeteria because you place your order at one end and pay at the other? Fast food because you have to pick up your salad, or a casual restaurant because they being the pizza to your table? Salad was good, but the "large" could have used more greens in it to make the bowl look full. Pizza was undercooked and floppy with a TON of corn meal on it! No worries about the pizza sticking to the tray, but you will have a mouth full of grit with each bite! Toppings on the pizza were good, but hard to get past all that grit. Sadly, this place used to be much better about 10 years ago when it first opened. We used to go almost weekly to Kirkwood and really enjoyed dining here. You can really taste the decline in quality and the portion sizes are significantly smaller as well. The atmosphere is still clean, with lots of seating, and the service wasn't an issue either. Unfortunately, nobodies food was as good as they remembered. My "Queen Margherita Pizza" was just flatbread with a tiny bit of basil and cold tomatoes on top. The Iconic BLT was decent, but mostly bread. We spent $50 on lunch and left still hungry. The atmosphere and service are still fine, but don't expect good or fresh food like in the past. The portions are smaller, the food is not as fresh, and the restaurant is definitely not very clean. The last time we were there, we sat at an indoor table that had lots of flies, and it was only April. One of my favorite sports to grab lunch! We used to come here all the time, but for some reason COVID threw us off our game of frequenting! I went to workout on the coldest day of the snow storm that piled in before the holidays, and I really wanted a good salad after my workout! Be prepared to do a lot of work for your food. You stand in line to order the food inside the door. Then you move down a bar to where they make the salad. They ask if you wish anything added or delete from the salad at this point and chop up the salad as you watch. You are handed the salad and then you shuffle down to a cash register where they accept your payment. To my surprise, there was a tip added to the bill that I had to manually change. Good concept, fun decor. We went to Crushed Red for lunch during a neighborhood gathering or event of some kind. Although the patio area and sidewalks were a madhouse the inside was fairly empty. The portions were decent and the food looked fresh. A couple small notes... My pita was quite tough to bite through, and my plate was so narrow that as pieces kept falling off they went directly to the table...and since I don't eat off the table everything that fell off was lost. Went for lunch and to get some work done. The salad was very good. The bowls are a little annoying because they are not designed very well for the function but that's a small issue. My problem happened when I pulled my laptop out and tried to work. Tried to get on their network and the connection kept going up and down.
