I typically get one of the combos and swap out one of the items for another with an upcharge for more money. I'm totally fine with it, however they ring it up. This evening when I asked for it, the server (blonde lady who was training a new hire), told me no and shook her head. When I let her know kindly that I have done this many times and noted that they just upcharge which I'm cool with, she shook her head no and said "they've never let me do that when I try." There was no "I'll check" or even a we may have to ring it up separate, etc. she literally was telling me no and willing to do nothing about it. So I ordered a smaller, one main dish and moved on because she wouldn't let me order more food however they wanted to bill/upcharge it. We were a party of 7. I totally understand not making changes for the same price, but I'm simply trying to order the food I want and willing to pay for it however they wanted to charge it. I've done this 10-15x there before. The waitress cost the business money this evening. She could have rung them up separate, whatever. She literally just told me no.

This restaurant is a nice upgrade to Main St. The sleek dark exterior is cozy and inviting on the inside. The restaurant features an ice cream bar and a coffee bar. Both of those menus look great! It was one of my grandparents' favorite places, and I have fond memories of coming here when I was younger and having their roast beef sandwiches. So we came in tonight specifically excited to have that experience again. The restaurant was far from busy -- only a handful of people appeared to be dining -- and we saw the roast beef sandwich listed on the menu as a Sunday seasonal special from 4-8 PM. When we tried to order it, however, we were told it was unavailable. To her credit, our waitress was very kind and even went back to ask the chef whether they could prepare one for us. Unfortunately, the answer was still no. That's what makes this so frustrating. Roast beef is what the Red Osier is known for. For a long-established restaurant in a small community, you would think there could be some effort made to accommodate a customer asking for one of the restaurant's signature items -- especially when that item is actually listed on the menu for that evening. It wasn't an unreasonable special request or something completely off-menu. We simply wanted to order the roast beef sandwich that the menu said was available. Maybe this seems like a small thing, but when you return to a restaurant because of decades of family memories and nostalgia, it's extremely disappointing to walk away feeling like the place you remembered no longer has the same sense of hospitality or customer care.
