Just completed my first of 12 lessons. I've taken lessons in the past but nothing stuck. Many of my business associates play golf. Needless to say, it's mandatory for a businessperson to have a proper golf swing. As many reviewers state, Mr. Crowley's approach to teach begins (and spends quite some time) in the mind. If you're looking to tweak your swing, he can help. If you are a beginner looking to confidently play a full round within the next couple weeks, this may not be the route for you. Or it could be - it seems as a complete beginner, this game takes time to build the skills necessary to effectively practice. But if you are going to commit to becoming a better golfer, I can guarantee that you will leave from your first lesson with a new mindset, a solid grip, and an understanding of stance, posture, alignment. My wife and I have no experience as well as we are not athletics but for beginners, he keeps us going and slowly, we are making progress. My gut feeling is that you may have to take about 12 lessons for those who have no basis of golf. He is a great instructor. read more

I was given a golf lesson from Danny as a birthday present. Danny is amazing at breaking down concepts into ways I could understand. It didn't take long for me to see improvements. I'm just a beginner, but he regularly trains my step dad who is a 0 handicap and often wins local tournaments. He helped me with my swing and my short game. Couldn't recommend this guy enough. As a formerly single digit handicapper, I had five foot surgeries that ended with the amputation of my left big toe. I was completely house bound for 2 and a 1/2 years. I literally had to learn to walk again. My muscles had atrophied and golf was only a dream. I finally was able to start playing again but I had lost so much distance and consistency I was at a loss. I found Danny on the Internet, booked a lesson (despite on very bad review) and all I can say is WOW. In minutes Danny was able to recognize my problem, share with me the necessary corrections and BOOM. I was working my way back to my old form. As a senior player, I have no doubt that I will soon be able to shoot my age as my score......74! Booming drives, crisp iron shots and my confidence is back. What I liked most about Danny's teaching style is his ability to relate to me in terms that I understood and made perfectly good sense. And, as a result.. I SAW IMMEDIATE RESULTS! This instructor has no idea of how to capitalize on strengths and improve weaknesses. He is canned - sticks with a few basics and is uncomfortable outside of those basic drills. After 4 lessons, my friend said he had given her no pointers on lining up to the target or pointers on which club to use when. Just mainly the wedge and while she's hacking away with her wedge, he's practice swinging with her clubs. At $150 per hour, I would say this is an overpriced instructor for the little he is willing to impart and unprofessional and lazy to boot. read more

I initially received a lesson with Danny as a present. He has a very clear teaching style and instantly improved my game. I now play off 7. He works with what you have and does not try and make you swing like a professional but focuses on what works for you. My long game, irons and short game are all much more solid as a result of his instruction. He also improved my putting and I now enjoy golf more and I am more consistent. I have had two playing lessons which were valuable in helping me with my course management. Sadly he is no longer at Memorial Park, but I highly recommend him. I started taking golf lessons from Danny about 2004. This was also my first attempt at golf, and I didn't want to pick up a club without instructions. I describe Danny as "a teacher, and NOT a salesman of lessons!" Danny really understands the golf swing and was very patient with me as a beginner. I have also referred several experienced golfers to Danny and they have told me that he was able to help them improve their swing and their ability to score. I'm not big on yelping but I had to write this review to fellow golfers or potential golfers so they might avoid what I went through. Dan Crowley is probably one of the worst instructors at Memorial Park let alone Houston. When reading his website he explains that he teaches feel under his philosophy which is further from the truth. I picked up golf about 2 1/2 years ago and went to Dan for lessons which I bought a pack of 5 lessons. After about our 3rd lesson Dan became very frustrated because he could not teach me how to loosen my arms. He even went to the extent to tell me I should pick up another sport. As you can probably imagine that's not something that someone wants to hear coming from an instructor about a sport you are passionate to learn. I can tell you to present to this date that I was able to break 100 using other instructors after one year and now shoot in the mid to high 80's. I think the only thing that Dan probably did for me was fuel the fire to reach those goals. I recently saw Dan at Memorial and thought maybe I'd give him another try and when asked to see if he was available for a lesson he spoke in a condescending manner of "May I help you with something" I saw him around the greens speaking with another gentlemen not realizing he was in the middle of a lesson because I watched him talk for about 10 mn without any instructions so I'd assumed he was just speaking with him. I apologized for interrupting and his reply back was "you can go online and set up an appt or wait a couple of hours until I'm finished". I'm sure reading his reply doesn't sound as bad but the tone was definitely not of an instructor looking to help others. The problem might be is some of these so called "pros" once had high hopes of making it on tour and to realize that their career ends up helping beginners to play golf is almost a demoralizing effect to them. Let me be clear that there are a lot of great teaching pros who love what they do and are good at their career who I greatly appreciate but Dan is not one of them. I've taken many lessons from many instructors around Houston and some were amazing and some not so amazing. At the time I thought it would be a good idea just to take lessons from different coaches to learn their style of teaching. What I realized is that you have to stick with one so you can work on a long term goal to your swing. I guess to me finding an instructor with a good attitude especially when confronted with challenges in the students swing is crucial. This is what I think Dan definitely lacks the patience and skill to work through adversity during instruction. He acts as if he expects every student to have a tour caliber swing to begin with and unfortunately that's not the case because otherwise there would be no need for a coach besides minor tweaks. I'm pretty sure Dan may be a good coach for someone on the intermediate level but I definitely would not recommend him for any beginner. I get that every coach has a different way to teach the swing but having a bad attitude should not be one of them. I play at Memorial at least once a week and have gotten to know the instructors very well some I've taken a lesson from and some just speaking with them. I would recommend you try any of these pros before Dan. Chuck Silva, Todd Eccles, Robert Olsen or John Gibson any one of these instructors have the important things needed to teaching anyone which is a the right patience and attitude to guide you through one of the toughest sports to learn. read more
