It had been so long since I went to Crostini, and it's still a lovely little local spot that now seems to have more seating (yay!). We were having a work "philly cheesesteak" dinner but needed a good spot to get takeout. We came to Crostini - ordering was super easy and our food was ready and waiting for us upon arrival. Staff was very friendly in our limited interaction. I don't love steak, so I got the philly chicken cheesesteak, and holy moly was this sandwich massive. I could barely even hold it together there was so much chicken going on there!! I ended up keeping all the chicken that naturally fell out of the sandwich as leftovers and put it over rice for a meal the next day. I loved that the sandwich had mushroom and peppers on it, having some veggie interaction made it feel healthy :) Especially considering I got a small french fry with it too (which was actually somewhat large). Ketchup was extra so I went without it and was perfectly happy eating my french fries without condiments. We placed an order for pickup including a sub sandwich, a panini, and fries. Everything was ready in advance of our pickup time which worked out great for us. The online ordering system is a little clunky but they were able to handle our requests (no tomato). And the ability to see your order status was very nice. Our food was still hot (that should be) when we picked up. The actual restaurant is a little awkward when you get inside. There's a small alcove to the left where you place your order. And you have to ring the bell for service. Everyone was super nice and the place looked vibey from what I could see. Not a ton to say since I just picked up. The food was excellent. The sub sandwich comes rolled kind of like a wrap which I wasn't expecting but didn't impact the flavor of experience. The panini was huge and easily 2 meals. Fries were soooo good. Like stadium quality. And don't skip the nacho cheese if you like a classic cheese fry. Overall I'm sad we haven't tried them sooner! read more

My wife and I were shopping around Madison and decided we wanted carry out sandwiches for lunch. We called our order and were advised it would be ready in 10 minutes. We arrived about 10 minutes later and were served quickly. Person who served us was friendly and they appeared busy. Small areas for inside and outside seating, so mainly carry out. We ordered a spicy chicken panini and an Italian panini which we shared. Both were large and delicious and came with whole dill pickles. Glad we didn't go with a chain store. Crostini has become a go-to for a quick lunch pickup order. Their menu has a lot of variety so I can find whatever I'm in the mood for. Recently I've tried the pepperjack chicken, the brisket reuben, and the farmer's market panini. Once in a while they're a touch greasy but it usually just adds to the flavor. :) I give Crostini a quick call and the sandwich is usually ready in 5-10 minutes! They've really saved me a couple times when I forgot that I didn't really have anything ready to go during a busy work from home day. I was hungry for a sandwich and soup and knew I could find that here. Ordered the chipotle turkey sub and the chicken noodle soup. Sandwich was delectable, but I didn't get to taste the soup due to a food allergy. Didn't think to ask if zucchini was an ingredient since it's not a typical chicken noodle soup addition, in my experience anyway. Total bummer town. They were nice about it and I swapped out for a bag of chips. Not a super fair trade on my end, but I don't need to hassle anyone over a few bucks for soup. They did offer me chili instead, but I wasn't feeling that today. Staff is super nice. The place could really use a facelift which is why it's getting 4/5 here. It's so dark and the seating is odd, but the food I did eat was great and came out fast. It has the potential to be really cute inside and brightened up a ton. Hoping today that I'll be blown away by the Italian Beef I've just ordered. 9 years ago I was first called to this address to correct some wiring problems. That was only memorable enough to cross my mind as I was approaching this place today. I think I had something all those many years ago, but perhaps not. Thinking as I'm writing these words, he wasn't yet open for business. Quite often when I visit some eatery that has something that really works, an indelible memory is etched into my tastebud center in my brain. Two such places spring to mind: Morels and Magnus. Each have a memory and a specific meal as well as actual date, what I wore, the entree itself, the cocktail and when this memory suddenly revisits my consciousness I'm suddenly both pleased and disappointed. Magnus because of the simplest of items: their rustic bread. It was over 20yrs ago and it marks the last time since I left Seattle that I've found bread that was as amazing as the main course. In Seattle I learned to make a rustic Italian crusty bread from a baker that was from another world. No one to date in the Midwest that I've found has this level of what I presume is a starter that might be decades in age. I'm sure that same chef is somewhere at a high end kitchen, but I haven't come across this masters work. Too much emphasis on that embellishment. The owner of Crostinis today etched another notch in my brain that will demand a repeat performance much sooner than another 9 yrs. I ordered a simple and unassuming Italian Beef with mozzarella and hot giardiniera that I really was looking forward to. But because I was enroute to a destination that needed to put in my wake, I had the meal packaged to go. It was about 40min before I was able to open the package and view what smelled heavenly. Went in there for a quick bite, ordered a steak sandwich with all the works and fries. It took about 10-15 minutes and I was the only one in the restaurant. The place has a real cozy atmosphere feel to it with arcade games at the back and vibrant decorations that makes the place feel like a retro diner sorta. When the food came out it was in a basket (guess I forgot to order to-go) and the fries were fresh out the oil. Generous portion of fries and the sandwich was thick with meat. I'm not playing, its a pretty big sandwich! Food could be enough for 2 if you're not a big eater. Yummy lunch would definitely come here to try more items. Man oh man I found my new favorite lunchtime hangout. This is a small, hidden gem on Madison's east side. I had no idea that they existed, but I'm super glad that my fellow yelpers guided me this way. I was not in the mood for another subway type of joint and luckily for me Crostini had a large variety of options. They have pasta, salads, soups, sammys, and plenty more. It took me a good ten minutes to even decide what I wanted to order. (I'm even told they cater FYI) The service was so great! I told the lady that it was my first time and she was very helpful in guiding me around and showing me what they had to offer. My only constructive criticism would be that the place itself is a little unclean and dark. There's a sitting area that is firmly lit (during lunch time) that has televisions and an old video game plugged in. There is also a window bar for those who don't want to stay long. On their counter were two drinks that I'm assuming were old because they had dust on them (advertising their fresh lemonade and iced tea). Stopped in here a few weeks ago for lunch and couldn't have been more impressed. I ordered the Chicago-style Italian beef with a side of fries. The sandwich looked -- and tasted -- better than a beef you'd get in Chicago. (Seriously, skip Portillos in West Madison and make the trip to this place for your Chicago cravings). The fries were some of the best I've had here -- crispy but not overdone. This place has a huge menu, so you're sure to find something you like. This place was alright. I was really hoping for it to be amazing as it's a sandwich shop... like better than Jimmy Johns or something like that but it was just okay. The cheese curds were alright, the breading didn't really have much flavor. I ordered buffalo chicken Panini but I got BBQ chicken Panini. It was a huge Panini but I really wanted buffalo chicken. I ended up giving it to my boyfriend and took his spicy chicken sandwich. My daughter ate her grilled cheese up with no complaints so that's a plus! The fries reminded me of Culvers fries... you have to salt them yourself. Which is fine. Better no salt than too much salt. I got my order delivered a lot faster than expected so that's a plus! I would try this place again as they have a few other sandwiches that I want to try. read more

Currently have a pick-up window during COVID and they did a nice job of shielding it off from the elements. This was my first time at Crostini, but I will certainly be back! The menu is quite large for a sandwich shop. I ended up ordering the Cuban as well as a bowl of chili. You can tell they use fresh ingredients and both items were delicious! Next time I might add some spice to the Cuban, but really no complaints! read more

Bummer of an experience here today. Years ago, we loooooved this Crostini's and no one could top their food. Today, my guy's meatball sub was bland, dry & crazy messy (toasted bun & cutting in half would've helped). The fries tasted like oil from other foods, and the rice pudding had curdled in the making and shouldn't have been served at all. The back dining area was dark and dirty, with unwiped tables and sticky floors. We left thinking "what happened to thIs place?" We're willing to give Crostini's another chance because of their fantastic history, but really hope this was just an off day. read more

I had one friend tell me this place was amazing. I had never heard of them, so next time I was at the barbershop I asked around. If you've ever seen the movie Coming to America, or, well, Barbershop, you know everyone at the neighborhood barbershop is an expert at everything and nothing. The consensus there was that it was ok, but way overpriced for small sandwiches, so I didnt bother for a while. I dont know why I listened to them fools. Yesterday I was in the mood for a deli sandwich and my usual spot closed early, so I decided to give them a try. They didnt really have deli sandwiches, but what I did try was great. First thing I tried was the spicy chicken sandwich. I ordered hoping it wasnt a buffalo chicken sandwich. It was definitely their take on a buffalo chicken sandwich, but different and better. I got it grilled. It has a hint of cajun seasoning in it as well. I also got an Italian combo, as I havent found one I LOVE in Madison since Deli Roma closed. Well, now I have. It was well seasoned, full of flavor, dipped without being so soggy you cant pick it up. Sandwiches are $6-9 and average size so, yes, not fast food prices, but not outrageous. How much do you spend on a sandwich at Applebees anyways? About the same and it's not as good. Going back tonight to try more things. UPDATE: I tried more things! Some sandwiches are indeed small. The reuben had great flavor but I expected more for an $8 sandwich. Same with the club supreme, although I'll probably get the club supreme again. If I want a big reuben I go to BBQ Joint, if I want a small one I go to Sliced. Biggest "miss" I tried so far? The chicken pesto panini. Also kind of small, but more importantly, their pesto is not pestoy at all to me. It looked and tasted more like mediocre guacamole. I did not enjoy this one at all. Both the chicken parm sub and the philly cheese steak were excellent. The price is pretty good for the size of the sandwiches. They are not huge but perfectly filling. Recommended Dish: The Philly Cheese stake sub is delicious. It is slightly more like an Italian beef sandwich than a true Philly Cheese Steak. It has peppers, mushrooms, and onions on it. When I heard a knock on my door, it didn't even occur to me that it would be the delivery guy because the time was cut in half. I ordered enough for a small family - fries, a house salad, fettuccine alfredo, a slice of their chocolate cake and iced tea. It would suffice to say I had leftovers. The salad was small but very delicious. The greens were fresh and the house dressing was delicious. I don't know what exactly is in it, but I would buy the dressing in bulk. Fries were fine, your average fries. The alfredo was good but extremely heavy. The sauce tasted kind of just like cream. It wasn't overly flavorful but not to say it wasn't bad but it did make my stomach hurt. I added some salt and pepper to give it some more flavor. I would go again for a sandwich! read more

I have never experienced a sandwich with potato as the main part of it before. It was tasty and definitely filling. The sautéed peppers were also very yum! Based on the menu, this place can stand toe to toe with any chain sandwich shop in both price and offerings. There's plenty of classics and unique items to choose from. The staff was super friendly and really helped me feel welcome (they didn't know I wasn't in a great mood), which made me much happier. There's plenty of seating, but it's not fancy and seems kind of underutilized. I'd say overall it's worth stopping in to grab a quick bite or take something home, and I would consider catering with them, but it's not gonna be a place you'll want to sit and stay for a family dinner. read more
