    a pickle and a sandwich

I was hungry for a sandwich and soup and knew I could find that here. Ordered the chipotle turkey sub and the chicken noodle soup. Sandwich was delectable, but I didn't get to taste the soup due to a food allergy. Didn't think to ask if zucchini was an ingredient since it's not a typical chicken noodle soup addition, in my experience anyway. Total bummer town. They were nice about it and I swapped out for a bag of chips. Not a super fair trade on my end, but I don't need to hassle anyone over a few bucks for soup. They did offer me chili instead, but I wasn't feeling that today. Staff is super nice. The place could really use a facelift which is why it's getting 4/5 here. It's so dark and the seating is odd, but the food I did eat was great and came out fast. It has the potential to be really cute inside and brightened up a ton. Add some plants and get rid of the games!

My boyfriend and I were in the area and decided to find some place for lunch. We were pleased to try this place. It looked closed but they were taking orders at the door/window. It had a good selection. I went with a sandwich- which was amazing and he got a philly. Both were great! Mine filled me up perfectly! Will def try this place again!

Hoping today that I'll be blown away by the Italian Beef I've just ordered. 9 years ago I was first called to this address to correct some wiring problems. That was only memorable enough to cross my mind as I was approaching this place today. I think I had something all those many years ago, but perhaps not. Thinking as I'm writing these words, he wasn't yet open for business. Quite often when I visit some eatery that has something that really works, an indelible memory is etched into my tastebud center in my brain. Two such places spring to mind: Morels and Magnus. Each have a memory and a specific meal as well as actual date, what I wore, the entree itself, the cocktail and when this memory suddenly revisits my consciousness I'm suddenly both pleased and disappointed. Magnus because of the simplest of items: their rustic bread. It was over 20yrs ago and it marks the last time since I left Seattle that I've found bread that was as amazing as the main course. In Seattle I learned to make a rustic Italian crusty bread from a baker that was from another world. No one to date in the Midwest that I've found has this level of what I presume is a starter that might be decades in age. I'm sure that same chef is somewhere at a high end kitchen, but I haven't come across this masters work. Too much emphasis on that embellishment. The owner of Crostinis today etched another notch in my brain that will demand a repeat performance much sooner than another 9 yrs. I ordered a simple and unassuming Italian Beef with mozzarella and hot giardiniera that I really was looking forward to. But because I was enroute to a destination that needed to put in my wake, I had the meal packaged to go. It was about 40min before I was able to open the package and view what smelled heavenly. In a word: GODFOOD OMG I'm blown away

Went in there for a quick bite, ordered a steak sandwich with all the works and fries. It took about 10-15 minutes and I was the only one in the restaurant. The place has a real cozy atmosphere feel to it with arcade games at the back and vibrant decorations that makes the place feel like a retro diner sorta. When the food came out it was in a basket (guess I forgot to order to-go) and the fries were fresh out the oil. Generous portion of fries and the sandwich was thick with meat. I'm not playing, its a pretty big sandwich! Food could be enough for 2 if you're not a big eater. Yummy lunch would definitely come here to try more items. Paid a decent amount, typical for these types of restaurants for a meal to be at least $12-16; no bev too.

As always this place hit the spot. I love this place, it's a hidden gem. The salads are huge, the sandwiches are superb, and the customer service is good! I'd have to say this is one of the best sandwich shops in Madison but they have a lot more then just sandwiches. Get a panini, PLEASE GET A PANINI, you will not be disappointed! I promise!

Over priced for the type of food and cheese fries should be smothered in cheese, not on the side as a dip.

Amazing. For new customers you order at a window inside and then it's free for all seating.

We tried about two months ago on a Sunday and there was quite a line so we tried somewhere else new to us. It was worth the trip back here! Marigold is a really cute place inside. We were between the breakfast and lunch rushes so we easily found a table after ordering. We noticed there was a steady flow of customers and the tables turned over at a decent pace so maybe we should have stood in line last time around. Hard to know sometimes. We ordered the breakfast burrito, avocado toast and buttermilk pancakes. Service was quick and friendly. The pancakes were fluffy and they looked good. The avocado toast and the breakfast burrito were delicious! We will definitely stop by Marigold when we're in town again!

After we reviewed the menu, we passed it to the people behind us who said they didn't need it, to the person behind them who said they didn't need it, etc. Let's just say a lot of locals like to come here! We ordered the pancake and the two eggs scrambled with bacon, potatoes and sourdough toast. Though the pancake was not my husband's favorite, I thought it was very nice , except it didn't come with any butter. The potatoes are unusual, almost like they're braised, not crispy. The flavor was pretty good though. The eggs and bacon were good and I loved the sourdough toast, even though I didn't see that they provided any jam. It's a nice atmosphere and the staff is friendly.

You're able to ask if the dish is savory or sweet and that's it. You can ask what the dish is but then the price will go from 10$ to 15$. We made a 12:00 PM reservation, which was definitely necessary because the place was full. Right off the bat, our server asked if anyone had food allergies or dietary restrictions. When I mentioned I have celiac disease, he confidently assured me they could absolutely accommodate it, which immediately gave me peace of mind. I ordered a strawberry spritz and we shared the gluten-free donuts to start. A huge win for the celiac community is that they have a dedicated fryer, so we also safely shared the truffle fries. For our main entrees, I had the fried rice which was excellent. My husband ordered the skirt steak hash with gluten-free toast and loved it, though it is worth noting for others that it packs quite a lot of spice. Our server was incredibly knowledgeable and attentive regarding the allergy protocols. The overall service ran a little slow, but it was understandable given how slammed they were for the Sunday rush. As an added bonus, the restaurant has its own parking lot, making the logistics seamless. We will definitely be back and highly recommend this spot, especially fellow celiacs looking for a safe and delicious meal!

Since it was nice outside we opted to eat on the small patio which was nice. Our server was was very good and kept things moving. It was happy hour so we ordered two of their spritzes which were $6 each - they were both good (strawberry/ limoncello). Appetizers were supposedly $10 each during happy hour - we got the tempura veggies which were very good. We also got the chicken wings which we later found out when we got the bill that they were not considered to be an appetizer covered by the happy hour pricing (they should make this clearer on the menu.) The wings themselves were good but six wings for $18 was a ripoff. I get it that inflation is high but that is ridiculous... My wife got the fried chicken sandwich which was very dry. This was the same result last time we were here - I guess we should have read our review and avoided it. Overall it was just an OK experience - disappointing.
