Came by on a Saturday just after 11am opening to try and sell some items. First time at this location. Previously have been to Pac Heights location which always seems so busy for selling. No one in the queue when I arrived so I was called up first. When you enter, there's a sale counter directly on the left. If you're selling, walk around the store to the far left side of the store to another counter. The store itself wasn't too busy either, though it did pick up around 11:30am. Well stocked inventory and also much larger than Pac Heights. Products on sale were in good condition and the store itself was also clean. Also was able to successfully sell a few items! Definitely go for store credit as you get more value from it than cash. read more

I went in looking for some clothes because I've been displaced because of a fire and all of my items are in storage, The floor staff wasn't helpful kinda rude and by the time I'd gotten to the front to pay I was depleted by poor customer service..this isn't a thrift store it's also not Nordstrom I get it ... we are in a time where customer service it's in demand, needed. I won't go into hard deets but I was done , I gave back all my purchases...BUT being in a service industry myself and the store manager tried with me but I was far gone with my disgruntled attitude, then I went back in after I decided I wanted those clothes and had a absolutely wonderful turn around of my experience with Earl Peoples the senior store manager, we had a conversation after I'd realigned my own attitude around what I do for a living and what I think is good service, he was extremely compassionate listened aware of what was, is, and needed to be ! All I know is that the way Earl Peoples handles customers is stellar service and rightfully and exactly the person who needs/is a guiding force within that companies location, don't lose this gentleman. For my own personal behavior it made me take a hard look at how to approach those people who just don't get the nuances,I could have been more patient, not making an excuse but if it had been smoother from the beginning I wouldn't have been so upset by the time I'd gotten to the checkout area and I was fired up,for this I apologize. Staff is friendly. I sell clothes to the store every so often when I'm clearing out my place. They are always kind and helpful whenever I have any questions. They price their items fairly IMO. If you are driving, it may be a bit difficult to find parking as it's on Market Street. It's located right by the MUNI stop though so that's an option. read more

Hey y'all, I came here for the first time to sell stuff recently. Came with two bags full of nice clothes, waited nearly 2 hours, and they took 3 items for a total of $12. I was disappointed because a majority of the items I brought had never been worn and some even had tags on still. The staff were polite and helpful. They told me it was actually primarily a men's store, (I assume they meant they would more likely take menswear because the store is clearly half/half?) and that they were really full. They pointed me in the direction of buffalo exchange. If you're a girly looking to sell clothes, I advise you to go elsewhere. My next stop is buffalo exchange. Hopefully they take more. read more

The iPad check in process and text message notifications make things easy and let you wander the store or nearby businesses when you wait for your turn to be called. During my visit to sell some clothing I had a very unpleasant experience due to them mis counting how many clothing items they actually took. The employee told us 6 items and when I got home to check my inventory list it was 8 items so not only did they take two extra products but they actually gave us really unfair prices for the 6 items for 38.00 for J crew, Madewell, and Hill House. I have proof that this is what bactually happened so I say this please people make sure you are paying attention to the employees when they are looking at your stuff as this particular employee went on the floor below the register like it was some big secret this place is unethical and I seem to think sometimes rasicist and unfair in their processes. They are basically stealing from the community and then charging them double for the same products. Its a very dirty way they play the game and quite frankly that will come to an end soon. It is up to us to make sure we as customers are getting the same treatment no matter racial background or ethnicity. The employees spent way more time with the customers beforehand than me. They didn't even wanna look at my stuff it seemed like. It is very unfournate that this happened but Crossroads is a rip off and is using little tactical forces to get extra clothing pieces and charging you like nothing. I had a really quick and easy first selling experience today (6/29). I came in as soon as the store opened at 11 and was first on the waitlist. The process is simple enough - you sign in on the tablet around the corner from the entrance and wait to be called. The employee asked another employee to cover the front while they helped me, so I was really happy I didn't need to wait so long. The rules for selling were explained very clearly to me, and I was recommended to browse the shop while they looked through my items. Happily four items were taken from me, though I came in with two bags. Completely understand that they are very particular about what they take (the brands they did choose from my pile were OAK + FORT, Abercrombie & Fitch, and Wilfred), and summer style. I opted for store credit instead as I am a frequent shopper at their San Carlos St and Blossom Hill locations. The rest of my clothes they could not take as donations, but that was okay as Goodwill was just a few blocks away for me to drop the rest off. Thank you for the efficiency! Both Security guards are amazing. It's not their job to great and say goodbye but both the guy with the locks and the girl today are just so pleasant to deal with. Also, the store manager Earl is amazing. I love dealing with him weather in buying or selling. He knows the clothes better than most in the biz and he's just extremely personable. I don't usually leave yelp reviews for non food place and usually it's because I had such a bad experience that management didn't handle that I even feel the need to do so, but I have been selling clothing for the last couple of weeks and have been here 5-7 times in this period and it's been nothing less than and exceptional experience each time. The 1 star is for the one nice human they have at the cash register. AWFUL customer service otherwise. From the moment you come in contact with the person who's taking the trade and help around the store. They have a horrible selection of clothes and are extremely picky about what you're trading in. I brought brand new items that are in season and definitely in fashion, yet they have clothes hanging on racks that are faded, out of season/style, dirty and basic. One of my new favorite place to shop. I sold a lot of my clothes in the past few days and found a few new items that I purchased with the store credit in exchange. Not only does Crossroads leave a small environmental impact but it gets you a new wardrobe. You never know what you find here. The other day I bought myself a pair of Levi's Strauss jeans for $22, looked brand new. This location really cracks me up. Clothes are cute and it's pretty clean for the most part, but selling here is kind of a pain. We all know you can bring in the sweater you get complimented in every time you wear it and walk out with 5 cents in cash (or $5 in store credit!!) That's nothing new and not the problem here. Let me paint you a picture of why you shouldn't sell here (and this situation has now happened twice to me in 6 months). You're the only person sitting in the waiting area, and you've successfully checked in with no one in front of you. Your presence is known, because you've asked "can I leave my bags here while I walk around?" to someone behind the counter. There are at least 5 employees kind of strolling around the store, occasionally walking by the sell area. After about 15 minutes someone finally sees that your name is on the wait list and asks to anyone, "is ______ on break? We have someone checked in!" Two people arrive, and start sorting through your clothes, having a loud conversation about how "millennials" just don't get it. As someone on the cusp, leaning more towards Gen Z, I don't really have any insight on this topic. The pattern repeats itself when you go to the fitting room so you don't have to feel a little hurt that most of your clothes are being sorted in the unwanted pile. There is no one manning the fitting rooms, so you find an employee strolling around the store and ask for a room. Once again, the question is asked, "Did _____ go on break?" This Crossroads location must have a great employee policy for breaks. I've sold at the College Ave. location in Oakland many times and never played the waiting game, so maybe try that one or just donate all your clothes to Goodwill. I hate writing bad reviews but this is another time when stuff at this location is treating you like you don't exist. They have a system of adding you on the waitlist when you want to sell/trade your clothes. So I did it in advance.. I checked in by the station when I arrive and they told me I'm next in the line. 5 people after (about 40 minutes later) they called my name. Ok I like this store. I find a lot here and lately have spent a fair bit of money outfitting myself for a new job. But this review is for a really bad management decision that led to this experience. Today I spent over $100 which entitled me to spin this wheel they have for a "free gift." It landed on the $10 gift card. I assumed I would not be able to use it for this purchase and would have to save it for next time. What I didn't expect was what the manager then told me - that I did not actually win the gift card but would be entered into a drawing for the chance to win it if I filled out a form with all my information. What complete bullshit! Either give me a thank you gift or not. Don't mask it in some bogus marketing ploy that anyone probably could participate in without buying anything. I don't consider the prices at this store high and I have no expectations of special deals. But this was just super tacky. And the employees I was dealing with just got silent when I confronted them about it. During our crawl through this neighborhood, a girlfriend and I got distracted and decided to check out Crossroads. (The boys joined us in our retail therapy session as well.) We stopped by on Saturday, September 16th around 6:15pm. I was actually looking for a jacket, but I couldn't find anything I liked in my size. I ended up getting a little black dress instead. For some reason, I picked one of the few new items in the store. It was a Blaque Label LBD for $37.50. Everyone else ended up getting items for less than $20 each as they were all second hand. Except for a pair of designer shoes my gf got which were more than that. The selection here is okay. I didn't see a lot I liked in my size, but at least everything was organized pretty well. Recycled fashion is cool! I have long been a fan of thrift stores & the majority of my clothing is second hand. It doesn't make sense to buy new all the time. It is much more eco-friendly & economical to buy used. So upon entering Crossroads in the Castro recently I was pleasantly greeted by a sign on the door wishing the Castro's patron saint Harvey Milk a happy birthday as his birthday was May 22nd. Milk is synonymous w/ the gay rights movement & was nice to see the homage to him. The clothes here are a bit more costly than other thrift stores yet there is less filler it seems. Besides clothes they also have shoes yet for kicks I always opt for vegan new ones. The staff was friendly & welcoming. For the warmer months Crossroads will have a focus on selling for Women: floral prints, lace, fringe, pale blue, sportswear, & minimal sneakers to name a few. For the warmer months Crossroads will have a focus on selling for Men: denim, bomber jackets, athletic inspired, patterned tops, simple sneakers, & slim fit shorts to name a few. For those doing a Spring cleaning of their wardrobe know that Crossroads pays 33 percent in cash or 50 percent in trade of what they price items to sell in store. They also consign high-end items. I have always felt the Market location staff is short, unfriendly and very impatient. Today I had an exceptional experience with one individual. So my rating is based on this specific visit only. I engaged with a young woman named Paige (forgive any misspelling of name). She had an immediate smile and warmth as I approached to ask her to read the brand name on a crossover bag. I wanted to be sure it wasn't the same as a previously purchased one that broke. She was so sweet and we chatted for less than a minute about the med for the bag. Also, acknowledged how I just took a chance to pop in today and there it was on the rack. It was the perfect design for my carry needs. Paige showed interest through her verbal and nonverbal presentation. A wonderful experience today! read more

I'm kind of embarrassed writing this review, but this is the worst experience we had at an otherwise pleasant history of visiting Crossroads to sell and buy. First, as we were checking out, we were assisted by a cashier (very tall woman), who clearly was more concerned about closing the store than helping customers. She tore the pants hanger off a pair of pants we were buying. Then, after we communicated that we did not need a bag, she still charged us for one. There may have been some miscommunication on our part, but when we reiterated we did not need a bag, no correction was made. We only realized this after having left the location. We don't mind paying the money, but the dishonesty does not sit right. We respect the staff and understand how difficult it can be to work at this time. In turn, we make an effort to support local businesses and expect the same level of respect from your staff. Respectfully, just be honest with customers. read more

This used to be my go to thrift spot in San Francisco unfortunately now I will never return. After coming in routinely over the course of a year or so as not only a patron but a vendor everything changed when I went in to sell clothing one day. After dropping off the bag I brought the for sale items in I decided to look around like normal and wait for items to be inspected. After about a minute or so one of the employees rushes over to me and demands that I check my bookbag at the front. Now I do have to say Market Street is notorious for that sort of behavior since the world is made to wear masks I see how P.O.C. are now viewed in an even more negative context being that not only are they minorities but you also can't clearly identify them. After asking the second employee if it was fine to just sit next to my items waiting to be processed I decided to leave and have not returned since. This coming on the heels of me selling items several times at the location that requires your ID and other personal information I am assuming they have stored.... Does it have a decent and varying selection of clothing.? Yes. Would I ever go back even if Lars Ulrich and M. Shadows were doing a free concert? Absolutely not. My money isn't a huge loss since I am selective about the items I purchase but the small amount I do spend I will definitely spend elsewhere. To be clear this is only this location not any of the others in the Crossroads chain. Overall this place is not the best place to go if you're of African decent. Online shopping is unfortunately still the best route to take as it takes profiling out of the equation. However there are other Crossroads and thrift shops in The City who value not only your business but will treat you in a respectful manner. I write these reviews based on my experience so that others will not have to face the same obstacles that I have. But always do your own research! read more

COVID review: I've been coming to Crossroads in San Jose for a few years and love their store! The concept is amazing and as somebody who shops and then donates a lot of clothes, it was perfect. I take all my gently worn clothes over there and chose to trade it for credit. You get more money back in credit than cash which is fine for me because I use the credit when I'm broke (don't judge) but still want to shop a bit! They have awesome clothes and accessories for men as well. They have a wide arrangement of clothes from H&M to free people to Louis Vuitton on consignment and all for great prices! Don't expect goodwill prices but definitely A LOT cheaper than actually going to Zara. A plus side is sometimes you find treasures from brands you didn't know existed. Now since covid... You have to make an appointment ahead of time to sell. It's honestly even better than before because sometimes there would be a line of 4 people selling/waiting when you'd get there. This cuts that back by a lot. Crossroads has an app that they used before but I believe it's been useless since Covid and you have to call to make the selling appointment. They have hand sanitizer at the front door and ask you to sanitize before coming in which is pretty cool because you know everybody is walking in with sanitized hands at least! The checkout line is spaced 6 ft apart from others. You will occasionally bump into somebody while shopping but they have mask on and it's inevitable. They seem pretty strict on their rules. read more

I've been selling and buying regularly at many Crossroads all over California for years so I know of what's trending, in season and in good quality. Everyone can recognize basic customer service and one buyer in particular rarely shows any interest in their job. My partner and I weren't greeted as we approached the selling table, just was told to make sure our names were on the waiting list. My partner was called up and never heard a "Hello, how are you doing today? Have you sold with us before?" etc. Super standoffish attitude, rude, and bored. Just "Call you up when I'm finished." Another buyer called me up at the same time and was sweet and attentive to my items. Carefully inspecting each piece of clothing, front and back etc. That other buyer doesn't really seem to enjoy their job or know what's trending in fashion or even care about their own personal style. I've brought items to them that they turned down that another buyer bought on another occasion. We've given the selective excuse before from them yet the store rarely has any good selections on the wall. read more

My partner stopped by the Crossroads on Market St, SF today and not only was treated HORRIBLY but the lady "helping" her stole the Ray-Ban sunglasses she'd left on the counter. The horrendous customer service this woman displayed was enough for her to just walk away and never want to return, but, when my partner attempted to retrieve her sunglasses, this woman smirked and winked while saying she had "no idea where they were". Considering the fact that the only other people in the store at this time were employees, the pool of suspects is very small. The issue began when my partner opted to try and donate the clothes that the store did not want to purchase- we did not know that Crossroads doesn't do that. Apparently, this line of questioning was beyond the pale with your employee who practically threw my partner out of the store. She followed her out, yelling that she's now "86'ed". 86'ed for trying to donate clothes to a used clothes store...?! I don't understand what the problem was. It was a misunderstanding and all the woman had to do was explain the store policy. Unfortunately, that's not what happened. When my partner got outside, she realized she'd left the sunglasses on the counter where she'd been speaking with your employee. Being gone less than 20-seconds, the sunglasses mysteriously disappeared. As I mentioned, there were only other employees in the store but the woman helping my partner LITERALLY winked and smirked when pretending not to know where the glasses were. At this point, my partner just leaves. This is beyond unacceptable! Not only did your employee STEAL her sunglasses, but she also treated her like trash. Dropped off $400-500 worth of clothing in a large duffle bag. Short blonde haired girl working rudely directs me to the other side of the store upon seeing me walk in. I tell her I'm here to sell my wifes clothing, she instructs me to put in my number into the ipad never looking up at me. Never making eye contact with me and annoyed at the world. I do so, trying hard to get her attention telling her I'd like to leave my bag but she prefers to continue socializing with her coworkers instead. She tells me I can't leave my bag near the window but they can take it on the other side of the counter and hold it for me until they're ready then I'll get a text, probably an hour since nobody is in the store (it's pouring rain this day). It's holidays and we go on vacation, thinking it's strange that we never got a call or text from them we head back to the store. They donated all our clothes including a $50 bag we just bought. No call, no text, nothing and no money from all sorts of nice scarfs, boots, shoes. I can't describe how upset we are. They also blamed us for their mishap saying we misunderstood them. We did exactly as they requested! Yet after 48hrs they just donate everything? Are you serious?? No apologies just blame the customer for your poor service. Can't even call a customer when they're confused. No effort to figure out their mistake. I was the only one in line this day! give me a break. WTF Crossroads. read more

Last October I saw a post on the Crossroads Instagram showing a red Balenciaga bag at the Market Street location. So I drove 2.5 hours to go get it. Flash forward to to this past week, I've since found out that the bag is a FAKE! I wasn't using the bag as often so I tried to sell it at Fashionphile. They told me it was a fake. I thought it might have been a mistake so I tried to seek it through TheRealReal. They too said it was fake! I'm beyond upset because Crossroads didn't mark it as fake or anything. I was charged $220 for what I thought was a real Balenciaga. I've tried to email them through the website but I never hear back. If the staff isn't able to confirm authenticity, then that's a big problem that needs to be solved read more

So I sold clothes periodically for years. I'm aware that the clothes need to be clean stylish appropriate in good condition, age and area appropriate and basically almost new. I went to the crossroads on market Street with a number of seasonal items that they said they were buying and wrap the items which tissue paper between them, etc. I waited over an hour and a half for someone to look at my clothes while I listen to them discuss their staffing problems openly and slow as human possibly could . when it was my turn, she went through my clothes and was done quickly and had bought a corset and a skirt out of 75 items which were mostly designer, barely ever worn and seasonal appropriate. That she did not like me or want to deal with me was evident from the beginning her attitude was pervasive and negative.. I know she did look at my items because they were wrapped and they were still wrapped when we were done except for the few that had been on top . They gave me $12.. I took the items across town and sold many of them for $91 and donated the rest in a third of the time that it took me previously items that they rejected were snapped up quickly so I can only assume that it was me that they really didn't wanna buy as where I sold the other items were notoriously cheap and picky. This isn't the first time it happened, but it is the last they can save their attitude and if you look around their inventory, you wonder who they buy from and what they actually do buy because they're clothes have gone seriously downhill and are way overpriced. $19 for used T-shirt get on.. read more

"Jazzy", the women buying from me was unfriendly and almost like blank staring at me, and it started when I asked if she could tell me the prices she's giving the clothes as she bought them... I mean, isn't it a little weird they don't give you an itemized list after you sell? So why would you be surprised if customers ask? Oh and no smile came off her face at any time either. I think that should just be a normal thing working in retail? I go collect my $, ask Jonathan at the front to go over the items (the ones I didn't get the prices for) and again I get this strange stare, and "What else can I help you with?" looks from this guy. I go to Crossroads to trade and to shop. Trading: I've made some quick cash trading in my old clothes I don't where anymore. You'll get way more for your clothing selling it online piece by piece then here but it is more convenient. They also have a mail in option. The longest line for tradIng is on the weekends. Don't bother bringing in any fast fashion except they do seem to take Gap. Shopping: I've found a few good deals on nice shoes here but for the most part it just doesn't compete with Goodwill. The prices for used clothing with tears and other flaws just isn't worth it for the bulk of their stuff. read more

The smell. Oh good lord the smell. It permeates every inch of this place, crawling from just steps within to settling inside the walls of the dressing rooms. A cheesy-feet scent that lingers on your mind even hours later. And if that weren't enough I would almost want to question the taste of whomever buys for this Crossroads. Very boho-hobo Gaga. Think satin sack dresses, light shapeless to the ankle 90's rejects and clothing either styled towards the 80's or from the 80's. The Haight has more homeless people per square inch than the Castro any day of the week. Why then does the taste level of the Haight Goodwill, or even it's Buffalo Exchange, far outshine this place? I tried and thought that I had set up an account at Cross Roads for selling and possibly for future trading because I am on a very fixed budget. I went in today and discovered that my original account had never been created and all the fine wool dress pants, and a couple of silk shirts and several cashmere sweaters had never been recorded. I was told that they had probably been donated. No trades or cash. I might have just as well thrown them out on Market Street. Walked in here today with two bags of clothes I haven't worn in far too long, walked out with nearly $50 cash plus the cutest Juicy Couture virgin wool miniskirt. The folks at this shop don't make you feel like a huge loser when they reject your stuff, they just fold it, put it aside and instead fawn over your several seasons old Penelope Starr dresses and skirts and tell you that they wish they wore your size while tagging it in preparation for someone else's closet. read more

I want to mention the great shopping experience I had today at the Market St. store...i'm a bit older than the average Crossroads shopper, like by several decades but the youthful staff is always kind and more importantly, helpful Today, Crystal, one of the managers, was beyond "5 stars" in helping me put an outfit together for Pride. I've been shopping at this store for decades and now that I've met Crystal, I'm sure I'll be doing more buying than window shopping.
