Brunch brunch brunch! So tasty and a variety of flavors. Let me walk you through an ideal brunch for two: 1. Crab Toast ($13). Three lite bites of crab and avocado purée with a razor thin red chili slice for a kick. Lots of reviewers recommended this to start, and they aren't wrong. Delicious! 2. Monkey bread ($9). Sweet dough, cinnamon, sugar, light cream cheese frosting. Served warm in a skillet and pull-apart ready. Satisfy your sweet tooth with plenty to share. 3. Wood roasted chicken hash ($13). Bacon, over-easy eggs, potato, and spicy bacon hollandaise served in a skillet with a warm biscuit on the side. Dice up that egg and dive in for a savory breakfast combo. Our waitress, Gabby, was attentive and prompt. No wonder this place gets packed on the weekend! For brunch, definitely arrive before 10:30am. There will be lots of families with young kids on the earlier side (literally 8 strollers were in the front entryway) but you're more likely to get a table. Yesterday I had one of the best sandwiches from their to go order that I ever had. The chicken was juicy and not over cooked, the bread was fresh, and none of the veggies had any imperfections. I do not know if this was just random, or if the sandwich was made by a chef or just a cook who cared, but it was a big departure from what I've come to expect from Crosby's. Usually they disregard your order's instructions and blame you. However, this time it seems like someone took care to follow the order exactly as described. Not only this it was carefully made and tasted as if the person making the sandwich cared about their work and wanted to present a good and nice meal. Too often in the past, it felt like this sandwich was thrown together by someone who did not give a shit, overcooked tough-dry chicken, tomatoes with the ugly middle stem part, wilted arugula, special adds and subtractions completely ignored, probably made by a line cook going through the motions and not checked by a sous before going out. Location, location and very good food. This is a perfect distance from the Music Box Theater. After catching a film, you can walk to the restaurant, sharing first impressions of the film. This is what we did and started in on what turned out to be a very good meal. Sometimes the good old meals of the past are what one needs and wants. Of course, one really doesn't want exactly what one had way back when. I ordered the Chicken and biscuits--it was a throwback of chicken pot pie but with every single ingredient being savory and fresh--lively, enjoyable. Picked Crosby's as my first dining out experience after bars and restaurants were allowed to re-open for patio dining and boy did I make the right decision! Started with the most refreshing Aperol spritz, we also shared the lobster deviled eggs, I'm not typically a huge fan of deviled eggs but these were beyond excellent or should I say eggcellent...my main entree was the Maryland crab cakes, highly recommended! Crab cakes are one of my favorite dishes and these rank up there with some of the best I've ever had. Overall the service was great, you could tell they put a lot of planning into the way the set up their seating to ensure the safety of their guests and even though this new dining experience is new to everyone they worked like a well oiled machine. read more

I've got family in the area, and while I've spent a lot of time in Chicago, I've been in Denver for the last five years and it was very cool making it back to see how much has changed. This place could have very well been around more than five years, but this was my first time there. We went for brunch before a Cubs game, and it was hopping! It's got a great atmosphere, great service, the food and cocktails were excellent, and even though they were busy they easily accommodated our large party. As far as suggestions go, I'm just going to throw out most of the stuff I tried, because it was all legit! Start with a Bloody Mary, and then get some apps, the cornbread is to die for, and it's more of a desert, but so is the monkey bread. Also sneak a deviled egg in there if you can. I got a skillet for my main course and loved that as well. I hear their dinner is great also... I can't think of a reason not to swing through here. read more

Went here for brunch with some friends while visiting Chicago! Really enjoyed it! We only had about a 15 min wait for 4 of us on a Sunday around 10, that is a win in my book! I went to Crosby's Kitchen for the first time this morning for brunch. I heard a lot of positive reviews before going but nothing compared to actually eating here. The staff were very nice and accommodating. I looked at the menu before coming and wanted the bacon strata benedict cheese on a biscuit. They didn't have it on the menu anymore but made it for me anyways. The entree came with your choice of potatoes or fruit and I chose the potatoes. They were seriously the best potatoes I ever had. The potatoes were made with parmesan cheese and milk making them very cheesy. The poached eggs were cooked to perfection and the yoke oozed out when you cut into the egg. We went to Crosby's for brunch today; after months in quarantine I wasn't sure I even remembered how to brunch. Thankfully, it all came back to me like riding a bicycle or...whatever else comes back to you. We had a fantastic server named Caleb, the former ballet dancer in case more than one Caleb works here. He was very attentive and funny and happily recommended drinks to our little group. I can't imagine the other Caleb being half as good as our Caleb. I had an Aperol spritz followed by another Aperol spritz. Sometimes you just know what you like. They were both perfect. Pros: the cocktails were all great, Caleb was great, the food was good, not really great. (See "Cons" below for more details) Cons: the blueberry cornbread tasted a bit like a rusty skillet in some places and my egg sandwich was missing the bacon. Fortunately, I was having such a great time with my spritzes that I didn't even notice the bacon was missing until I opened my carry out box at home to discover what looked like the aftermath of a fight between a slice of rye bread, a fried egg and some shredded lettuce...and there were no survivors. What a giant disappointment. I've been hearing how great this place was for years, but I guess my spidey sense always knew it was a place for the Southport young families who may have a little cash, but certainly not any taste. Chaotic but organized atmosphere, super busy, certainly kid friendly but despite having a kid, I usually don't like kid friendly as that's all that is there. Our service was super friendly and offered solid suggestions. The alcohol program is super dumbed down offering standard but solid cocktails and a beer list that a beer noob could have done in 3 minutes. The food sounds great but lacks in critical execution. I did enjoy the cornbread but the serving is way too big, the butter needs to come melted on top, and an additional flavored butter would have been the way to go. I liked the shoe string fries, nice crunchy but wouldn't shock me to know they were frozen like the children's chicken tenders. The smoked meats were supposed to be awesome, specifically the chicken. Got he au ju but it had no flavor at all, the bread was boring and the whole thing was a miss. Not my scene, I wouldn't come here. read more

Bloody mary's were on point and we always love when they serve it with the skewer of goods. Main entrees were 10/10. The sage in the corned beef really added to each bite. Enriques bacon potato cakes with a side of sour cream were to die for. Perfectly crunchy on the outside and a nice mashed potato texture inside. Crosby's is still serving delicious food (guacamole and turkey burger this time) with sunny service. But on this occasion I came here specifically because I was on a city outing with my daughter and many reviews mentioned "kid friendly." They certainly ticked all the usual boxes--children's menu, crayons, booster seats, milk in a plastic lidded straw cup. However, they also had something that I have NEVER seen ANYWHERE--a footstool by the sink in the restroom. I can't count how many times I've had to hold up my toddler by the midsection with one arm--close enough to wash but not so close to let her touch the counter with any part of her body--while trying to manipulate the controls with the other, neither of us doing a really bang-up job. This is the awkward, difficult post-potty scene in every public restroom we've ever been in. With the footstool, she can stand and do it by herself like she does at home. It came warm, which was a bit surprising, but I ate it (mistake) and five hours later I become violently sick and it lasted twelve hours. My daughter and I had the same thing to eat that day - up until that point. I had all the telltale signs of food poisoning. As I've learned....salads are the biggest contributor to ecoli.
