Yesterday we went to see Lucy for my almost-three-year-old son's first visit to a barbershop! He was very nervous and refused to get in the chair at first, but Lucy was so sweet to him. The barbershop had holiday treats that he really enjoyed eating while I got my haircut, and then when it was his turn, he felt more comfortable and got right in the chair. Lucy brought out the toys for him as well as the "Tony the Pony" booster seat, which he absolutely loved. She also had a Superman cape for him to wear, and was so flexible and patient as he bounced around while she was cutting his hair. She also gave us a sweet First Haircut certificate and a baggie to save some hair clippings. She made it a wonderful first experience for him, and I would highly recommend her and Crestview Barbershop in general! read more

We had a great experience at Crestview Barber Shop today. Cally did an amazing job with my 6 year-old and 2 year-old boys. The 6 year-old was having a blast, as you can see in his photo, and the baby didn't cry like he did at the children's place we took him to last time. And the haircuts are much better too, the best we've got for the boys since moving to Austin a year ago, in fact. Great job, Cally! I especially like how they had toys available for the kids to play with. Also, this place is in a little strip mall with a picnic table outside and a small grocery in the same lot, so you can walk with your younger children outside or sit and feed them a bag of chips or whatnot while you wait for your turn. I'm very happy with these folks, in particular Callie. A couple of weeks ago, my dad found Callie when he walked in for an unscheduled cut. The work she did on his hair was matched only by her kindness to him and her understanding of his mobility issues. Enter today. I was needing a haircut. After having the same barber for over 25 years who retired at the end of 2016, I'd been bouncing around looking, even with help from Yelp. The last couple of visits with my current attempt at a long-term relationship with a barber had been declining, so I decided to give Callie a try today. One thing that can be good or bad is that Callie, like several of the people there, doesn't take appointments. Depending on when you show up, there might be no wait. Or in the case of today, you may wait a while. She's surprisingly quick and efficient though, so the wait goes a lot quicker than you'd imagine. But here's the thing. Callie gives a great haircut. She's also really reasonably priced. She's beyond warm. And the banter between her, her customers, and Teddy, one of the other barbers instantly puts you at ease and makes you feel like you've been a long time customer. This is my absolute most favorite place! In the front they are set up like a traditional barbershop. The atmosphere is great. Extremely laid back and on a Saturday the place gets busy and full of people exchanging conversations. In the back, Pam and Diane cut hair by appointment only. I have been getting my hair cut by Pam for 5 years now. It's so refreshing to have a place to get my hair cut where I feel so relaxed and I'm never disappointed with the cut. This place is the epitome of a 3-star barber shop. Things here are wonderfully average. I've gotten my hair cut here a couple times. There wasn't much memorable about the place itself or the haircut. This is a classic barbershop tucked away in one of the best neighborhoods in Austin. You should know by now what to expect when you walk in. They do however have stylists for the ladies, in the back, by appointment only. Don, the Cajun Cutter, cuts my hair EXACTLY how I like. I used to go to Big Kat's in Houston once a month but no more. I can't explain some of the complaints in previous reviews of this place. My experience was great. I was honestly a little reluctant to try this place for a while, but after several less than stellar experiences at Supercuts I decided to give them a go. I'm glad I did because I got the best haircut I've had in a long time. The barber, David, did a great job. Real nice guy and fun to chat with. The old school style barbershop made it all the more fun. They are cash only, so be prepared for that. I did not make an appointment and the wait was probably around 20 minutes. I was hoping to support a local business by switching where I get my hair-cut, from the local chain to Crestview Barber Shop. I called to make sure I didn't need an appointment. Their web site advertised a chair was always open, but given this was to be my first time visiting them, I wanted to make sure. The person I talked to on the phone said I would, in fact, need an appointment, because I was female. At this point, I explained that I wanted a male hair-cut. I have super-short hair always cut in a male style. I make sure to emphasize the male hair-cut, because I don't want anything remotely resembling a female haircut. He explained that it didn't matter, I'd have to make an appointment, and the haircut would cost $30, compared to the male rate of $14 advertised on their web site. I made sure to explain again that I truly wanted a male hair cut, but it didn't make a difference to him. As a gay person who is also gender-queer, I don't appreciate the gender discrimination. My hair is like any other male, and there is nothing to warrant doubling the price merely because I'm in a female body. If a guy can walk in without being hassled and get his haircut, I'm not sure why I should be treated any differently. I was quite unhappy to see my efforts for supporting local business failed so miserably. read more

Stay away from the moody, snarky, tats up to his eyeballs, entitled, highly feminized millennial named Teddy. He'll chop your hair every which way. If you dare to kindly point out how chopped and uneven it his, he'll quickly snap back in his typical indignant, sarcastic, disingenuous tone "well, we want you to have a great haircut, don't we", and then proceed to intentionally mess it up even more. He'll zoom and snip on his buddies for 20, 30, even more minutes as he gabs away like an elementary school girl. For those who are not, it's chop, chop, hack, zoom, hack some more, all in 4 minutes flat, followed by his exclaiming "hey isn't it great?", and you're out of there buddy because he's all slammed and backed-up with more clients, despite the undeniable fact that there isn't anyone there waiting! The dude is either malicious, or as they say in the Big Easy just flat out don't have his right change. If he decides for whatever unknown and unpredictable reason that he doesn't like you, then watch out, he'll be sure to make your haircut totally miserable enough to ensure that you'll never come back! read more

I just moved to the area and needed a new barber. I went to Crestview Barber shop as a walk in. It's small, traditional, with a nice laidback atmosphere. A barber by the name of David cut my hair. He talked me into doing something different with my hair that I would normally do (something more modern). I was a little nervous at first but after he was done I really liked what he did. The next day at work I got so many complements on my hair. I am grateful for him for suggesting something new and different. I have been going to Crestview Barber Shop for years, and I absolutely love the haircuts I get from Pam, the owner. Everyone who works there is super nice, and the old time barber shop setting is so cool. I highly recommend this barber shop for kids haircuts. They have the cutest little wooden horse for kids to sit on while they get their hair cut. Women need to call ahead for an appointment, and Pam and Diane both get booked up way ahead of time.
