West End Salon is such a fun place to go for a haircut. If you are downtown, it is easy to walk there. It is located in an old home, so the building is welcoming and comfortable. It feels lively inside without being crowded. There are many talented stylists there, and they do a great job. read more

The salon is in a charming little house on West Avenue in the West End! It has a great little waiting room where you can shop for products - dangerous! Amber Terry cut my hair - and I thought she and the haircut she gave me were amazing! I would definitely go back! Only con? They get booked up - so make sure you make an appointment early! read more

Warning! This isn't really a place for guys. I live close by, so I visited twice. It's primarily 40-something year old women who go here, so if that's you it may be perfect. This place is located inside of an old house with a huge tree in the front. Parking is in the back. I had a hard time finding the men's room because it's like a maze, still laid out like a house would be. I had a different stylist both times I visited. I had just moved to Austin and I really needed a haircut, but this place didn't impress. They don't offer drinks like other salons do, and didn't have a way for me to schedule online. I wasn't especially impressed with the haircut, especially after I discovered some of the other Austin salons that cater to men. read more

A big fan of the adorable Amber at West End Salon! I have had a crush on my stylist for years now (and I happen to love the way he cuts my hair) but the man cannot settle down. I needed someone nearby, and someone I could trust. As it turns out Amber does the hair of a number of folks at my gym, which is how I got the recommendation - and she is just blocks away, hurrah! I think it's difficult to make my mousy thin hair look remotely interesting but Amber came up with a new twist, and I just love it. She listened to me and provided feedback, and offered a professional opinion - I felt very involved with the decision-making which is important to me. I went back the other day for a (free!) bang trim, and look forward to another visit. The salon is in a cute house - it has old charm while being very bright and clean. Complimentary beverages are always a plus, and it's super easy to schedule online. Warning - watch where you park, pay attention to signage, etc. I don't really get the parking situation there so each time I've parked out front and just paid for parking. I think they have a couple free spaces - might be worth stopping in or calling to inquire about it. read more

Amber has been my stylist for years...she is great and her new location at West End is very nice. West End is very trendy, super clean, and parking is relatively easy. Amber is awesome! Even if she cut hair in an ally, I'm pretty sure I'd follow her! read more

The ladies (Laura & Amber especially) at West End Salon are the best!! I've literally never had a good updo...until now. Laura did a magnificent job on my wedding hair trial (if I do say so myself) and Amber does a consistently wonderful job on my fiancee's very unruly 'do. (He now has his own fancy shampoo :)) The ambiance here is also cute and quaint yet sharp and hip. Plus, I was surprised by the affordability - I've paid way too much for my prom-esque looks in the past so WE Salon gets a resounding 5 stars in my book!! read more

I just moved to Austin and figured that a "salon" one block off of 6th street should give pretty decent cuts. I told the "stylist" the same thing I've told every barber for the last year: that I was trying to grow out the layers in my just past shoulder length hair so that it'd be all one length. Well, I can safety say it is now all one length. In a mom lob. A couple inches above my shoulders. This haircut is dated-- almost ten years dated. It is not what I asked for and each time I catch a glimpse of it in the mirror it makes me even more furious. 75 bucks so I can have a Fall full of updos-- oh, except it's too short. Just what every professional woman wants: nubby pony tails every day for two months. I hope this place is forced out of the area due to rising rents and made to relocate in an area better suited to their unique "skill set". Say, some where in the deep suburbs like Dripping Springs or Buda. Update: After showing my "hairstyle" to various friends this weekend and receiving such sparkling feedback as "yah, that's bad" or "wow. *actual cringe* Errr new haircut?", I just booked an appointment for extensions at a different salon. Which, if you've never gotten extensions-- and I haven't-- is pretty expensive. But I think the cost is a lot less than the credibility points I'll lose at work for looking so unprofessional, or the erosion to my self esteem when I think "you look terrible" each morning while getting ready. I'm going to reiterate, in case this review is not poignant enough: avoid this salon. read more

I've been going to Ray at west end salon for about 2 years now. I've never had a more consistent hair cut. Being concerned with the fight against thinning hair, Ray always finds a way to make me look like I have more hair than I do ;) I've also heard great things from the ladies about his cuts & colors. I brought my wife to him and she absolutely loves him - her words were "He has Angel hands". Give Ray a try, you will not be disappointed. read more

They don't seem know current styles here. A friend went for a haircut, was specific about what she wanted (she wants to grow her hair out) and he cut off months of growth. I went for a cut at the same time (hard to mess up a man's cut, right? The cut was ok, but I dunno how it was worth the money I spent. I don't have that much hair! I was unimpressed by the run down look of the lobby, the ancient magazines and the general dirtiness of the place. This salon is probably best for older clients (50+) as that's primarily who I saw in there. read more

I've been going to Laura for about a year and my hair has never looked better nor felt softer. She has managed to keep me as blonde as I like w/o drying it or damaging it. Plus I like to keep my hair really long. She educates me about products but is never pushy about sales. Her prices are totally reasonable. I've referred friends to her and they have had great success as well. On top of a great stylist/colorist, she's funny & friendly to boot. read more

After hearing oodles of praise for Ms. Amber Terry at West End Salon I decided to schedule an appointment with her. West End Salon is very "cute." They went out of their way to convert this older house into a charming salon. The ladies who work there are all very friendly and Amber was great. I think it was the first haircut ever that when I asked for "a number 3 on the sides" she replied that she doesn't use clippers. She scissor cut my sides and it turned out great! I like how she also offers a free bang/sideburn trim after your haircut. Instead of having to go in for a full haircut every 3-4 weeks I can get an extra week or two out of each haircut with the touch up. Being able to setup your appointment online also makes it much easier to schedule and you don't have to worry about mistakes over-booking. read more

I've been raving about the talent and wonderful personality of stylist Amber Silver Terry since her days at the now-defunct Hairy Situations, so I've read with a big smile all of the 5-star posts of West End that include her name in them. I once stated that I would follow Amber to Amarillo should she ever be sentenced to living there; thankfully, I only had to get a little closer to downtown to enjoy the ambiance of this wonderful place while sipping on a complimentary beverage, getting "Ambered," as I like to put it. Very easy to find parking, and the little house has been remodeled into a lovely, lively space. I always feel very much at ease there, even when my hair is wrapped in foils and I have to balance my glasses cartoonishly on the tip of my nose whilst reading a fashion mag, perched underneath a dryer. Great move, Amber! See ya later this week. read more

Love this place, such a great atmosphere. I see Amber for my highlights and cuts. I have very thick blonde hair and have gone to people who take hours to highlight it. She is able to get me in and out quickly and looking fantastic! I am always happy with the results! Love her!! read more

This review is for Amber. She came highly recommended by a friend whose hair I love. My last haircut was a disaster and I've been trying to grow it out. Amber did a great job. She gave me just what I asked for. She is a sincerely nice person and a pleasure to hang out with for an hour. I will definitely be back again. I always get the same thing, though. I would trust her to ask her for new ideas and let her be creative with a new style for me! read more

Best salon I've ever been to! As both a customer and employee, I've had nothing but wonderful experiences here. No matter who you go to, the service will be well worth the money. read more

Tami at West End has been my stylist for years now. Being a guy with unusual hair to begin with (two huge natural blonde patches), I've never been comfortable with just anyone working on my hair. Over the past few years, Tami has worked with me on a dozen different styles and colors, ranging from mohawks to pompadours, and running the gamut from purple to green, or even merely accentuating my natural spots. I've become so accustomed to compliments on my hair (either casually or shouted from cars) this is the best way I can give back to someone who has taken so much personal care and interest in how I look. Whether you know what you want or you're looking to try something completely new, wild or conventional, Tami has great style and shampoo skills that could put you into a coma. Top that with the friendly staff, calm well-lit decor, and a complimentary tasty adult beverage in hand, and I can't see why you'd go anywhere else. Walk out feeling and looking like the money you spent was damn worth it. read more

After living in Austin for 2 years, I have finally found a stylist that I trust. Audrey Page at West End Salon did a fantastic job on my hair - cut and color. She is great at listening to what a client wants, and helps realize that shared vision in how she cuts and styles hair. I highly recommend her. Also I did mark the salon as "pricey" - and it's worth every cent you spend and more! The salon is located downtown but there is generally ample parking - the staff at the salon are courteous and polite, and the salon itself is full of light and low key. I walked out looking better and feeling relaxed. read more

I have been going to West End Salon since they opened. They place is very nice and clean is convenient if you're downtown. I mainly use Ray and he does a great job but when he has been busy or unavailable I have used almost all of the other stylists at least once and I have never had a bad haircut. There is always easy to find street parking but if you don't want to pay for street parking they have a few spots where you can park for free if you ask your stylist. I just get a normal men's haircut but my hair is hard to cut properly. Ray has always done an amazing job. I highly recommend him. read more

My review is for Robin (Hughes) Primeau, one of my most favorite stylists. Ever! Before moving to Houston, which is the only way I would've stopped seeing her regularly, I saw Robin for over 5 years. I have referred a number of friends to her, which we all know is a big deal when talking a girl's hair. Two of my referrals now see Robin exclusively and swear by her. Robin is a reliable professional that is willing to help her clients try new things, while also honest about what she thinks is achievable for each person. This is in my opinion is an invaluable attribute for someone that can have such an impact on your appearance. Robin's services, pricing and even on-line scheduling are available here: https://www.vagaro.com/RobinNHughes#.Uw_GJM6Hi9Y Do it now and thank me later! read more

SO...one of my friends had nothing but good things to say about "West End Salon", and I decided that I should figure out what all the hoopla was about... I have really terrible availability and a huge amount of unruly long hair and was encouraged to go see Diane Zelaya... She is incredible...plain and simple...she is super talented and really knows how to deal with hair that most people refuse to correct. I was almost hesitant to share her name with friends because I was enjoying having the best hair out of everyone I know....lol I've been a consistent customer for almost 2 years and refuse to see anyone else....Most of the people she works for have been with her for longer and share the same opinion I have. Diane Zelaya at West End Salon is the best hairdresser I've ever had...and she's the secret that all of Austin's redheads have been keeping! ~Rachel read more

Pam has been doing my hair for about 15 years. She is honest, has great execution, and makes you feel right at home. I pretty much let her steer the appointment considering cut and color and I have never been anything but completely happy with the end results. She is perfect with coloring and styling. She knows my life routine (and that I will never ever blow dry, style, or put product on my hair and her expertise in shaping makes my hair super cute and chic without having to do any of the above. PAMELA! YAY! read more

I've been seeing Rachel for years. She always knows exactly what to do. She also provides great conversation and is truly honest about what looks good and what doesn't. The salon itself is also great! It's an old house so there are the usual quirks that go with it but the general feel of the place is very professional. Everyone I've seen that works there seems to be in the "zone". Of course Rachel Mcdaniel takes the cake! I'd follow her wherever she leads.... read more

Super Stylist Johanna has been my hero for over a decade. Salon has stayed focused on excellence and safety for customers. Big hooray for stayin alive in Austin! read more

If I had to come up with one word to describe Laura Rabakon it would be AMAZING. She has been my hair stylist for over a year now and I couldn't be happier. I feel very comfortable with Laura and trust her completely with my hair. She listens to what you have to say and in turn shares her years of experience and expertise. She is fabulous with scissors and also does exceptional hair color and highlights. Her formulations are so brilliant and they last! Never before have I had EXACTLY the cut and the color I wanted. This woman is a true master stylist who exudes a passion for creating beauty. Ask yourself if you can say the same about your stylist. If not, then you should give Laura Rabakon a call. Bonus! Laura does online booking too. Simple and easy to get to through the West End Salon website. read more

I've been seeing Diane Zelaya for about 3 years now for cut and color, and I couldn't be happier. Diane is a curly-hair specialist; but I have very fine, mostly straight hair and she has always done a terrific job with the cut, even though I have no curls. She's also great with my color. I got married earlier this year, and we spent several months working toward the perfect wedding-day color, which was blonder than I've been wearing my hair for the past year or so. I was very pleased with it. And to top it off, I complained a few months ago about how fast my roots were growing out, and Diane gave me a bottle of violet shampoo to use weekly and it has worked wonders. I almost feel bad for her- instead of having my color done every 8 weeks, I can now stretch it closer to 12 weeks. My husband also sees Diane for his hair cuts (he actually recommended her to me way back when), and he's probably her most loyal customer. We've both followed her from her previous salon to West End, and we love the new place. It's bright and open and decorated comfortably, but you don't feel like you're on display in front of mirror after mirror like you do in some salons. All in all, I give both Diane and the salon 5 out of 5 stars. read more

Amber is a great stylist. She listens to you and gives you good advice. My hair was a bit damaged she gave me good recommendation on what type of products I should avoid and which ones to use. Also, rather than cutting all off she managed to do it in stages leaving my hair looking healthy. I love how my hair looks. read more

Amy Sanford is great. I've been going to her for awhile and I always get compliments on my hair. Two friends are now going to her because of me. She does good color too. I wish they had more parking spaces though. read more

I get my hair highlighted by Johanna and, while it is not the least expensive it's ever been done for, it is UNDOUBTEDLY the best. She takes her time, adds in as many different colors as I want (to give it depth) and is so bubbly and cute. I really love how it turns out! read more

Worst haircut of all time. I hate to write this but wow. West end salon is the worst hands down haircut in austin. I went twice and the second haircut was worse than the first, I could not stand to be butchered again. I read the 5 star reviews on yelp and decided to try it out the first time and just figured my stylist was just distracted due to all the chatting with fellow cutters and lack of attention to my head. What an expensive mistake. Not even close to what I asked for, amature cut, and terrible coloring. Warning do NOT get your hair done there unless you want to look like a poorly groomed sheep dog. If you do go there now consider switching to a new salon you might not realize how bad your hair is till a pro points it out. UGH. read more

Clean & charming. A bit pricey, but definitely worth it. I've been seeing Heather B. for my crazy curls for about 5 years now. She's excellent at color & styling. They carry Kerastase products, amongst others. I usually don't let salons swindle me into buying their products, but this stuff works! read more

The overall atmosphere at West End Salon is modern and fun. The girls there are always kind and attentive. Audrey Page is incredible and definitely is an amazing hair stylist. She does fantastic color (i get compliments all the time)! Overall, that salon is great and Audrey is definitely an asset to it! read more

For the past 4 years, Audrey Page has been my go-to gal for cut and color. I have long curly hair that can be difficult to manage and Audrey never ceases to amaze me with what she can make my hair do. I think so highly of Audrey's capabilities as a stylist that I have referred her to many of my girlfriends. The fact that they have all become Audrey regulars speaks volumes about Audrey's talent since my friends are a very picky, albeit fabulous, group of girls. Audrey is one of the most personable people I know, which makes it a pleasure to see her every other month. Most importantly, Audrey is exceedingly talented. Visit her at West End Salon just once and your search for a go-to stylist will end. read more

Hi, I am commenting on the haircut Amy blessed my daughter with on December 23. My daughter is 25, tiny and adorable, therefore needs an adorable cut to complete her little face. How I found West End, I do not know, but am glad I did. Amy didn't have much to work with, for my daughter's hair was fried and very short. But Amy spent quality time assessing, talking with my daughter and coming to a good conclusion. The cut is extremely short, allowing one to actually see the lines of the cut which showed me Amy truly knows how to cut hair. And my daughter told me later that Amy is down-to-earth and kind, which is a huge plus in our book of life. Thank you Amy for being what my daughter needed at this time, and for your integrity. I was in Austin for a long weekend away and found myself with a little time free. Needed a haircut badly and Ray had availability. Best haircut I've had in years!!!! He knew exactly what to do with my fine but lots of it, slightly curly hair to create a great shape that suits my face, personality and enhance the body and curl in my hair. If it wasn't so far from Seattle, I'd be a regular client. The salon is set in a sweet house in a cute neighborhood. Best little hair salon in Texas! Thanks Ray read more

I highly recommend Audrey Page at West End Salon!!! I've been going to her for almost 3 years now and don't know what I ever did without her. I came to her after I got a nightmare cut from a stylist from another salon, and she worked magic on my hair. Later, my hair was brittle and breaking due to some medication I had been taking, and Audrey recommended conditioning treatments that literally saved my hair. Whether it's a cut, color, style or treatment, I can count on her to always do an amazing job. Another bonus is that she is really sweet and fun to talk with. :) read more

I have been going to see Pam for all of my hair needs for over 10 years now. She is a-m-a-z-i-n-g!!!!!! What prompted me to write this review is that she gave me the best hair cut ever this past Tuesday. She has seen my hair through all lengths and colors. I grew my hair out long for my wedding, and afterwords I have been going shorter and shorter and shorter. To cut and style my hair is only for the seasoned professional. Straight, with unpredictable waves, and FULL of cowlicks. To find a style that doesn't involve extensive blow drying/straight ironing is a feat. She discovered it for me, and I am over the moon. :) It defeats all the annoyances of the cowlicks and is chic, chic, chic! I can't stop staring at myself in the mirror! The Kevin Murphy products she carries makes keeping the style she creates easy to maintain at home. Aside from her talent, she is a genuinely nice and down to earth woman. read more

This review is for Amy Sanford-Kennedy: I moved from Austin last fall, there are many things that I am missing and one of them is for sure Amy's great work. While I am super picky and careful with my hair, I came across Amy completely randomly in 2010 (trying to hide from a really hot afternoon, walking on Guadalupe on a super hot August day :-) ). I just moved to the area and I really needed a haircut, so I thought I will give it a try. I was super happy with Amy and continued to follow her when she moved (see my first review for Amy). My hair never looked better and Amy was just the greatest person to talk to too. She is super talented and very careful with coloring, with the haircut, how she treats you. So amazing at every level. When I moved she even sent me the color mix she used to use so that I don't have to experiment and risk anything. How great is that? I really wish I could fly to Austin just to get my hair done :). Hope this info helps, and Amy, if you are seeing this message, hope to see you one day soon. This is a long overdue review, big apologies! (Regarding the Salon, I loved it too, super friendly, conveniently located, never had issues with parking, an excellent place to relax and hang out.) read more
