2 words. HIDDEN GEM. I love donuts. I have never found a place that's donuts stay as fresh as Cresent's. I've been here at 9 am 10 at night and 4 in the morning all multiple times. I've never been disappointed. Even if the donuts are a bit picked over Saturday night at 10 and you are forced to try a new one, I am confident you'll enjoy. My man behind the counter will probably hook you up with a fat deal as well. This place is a Bloomington must go, if you graduate from college here and don't eat one of their donuts you are a loser. I love that they always have cake doughnuts and that their doughnuts are less sugar loaded than other options in town (don't worry there is still plenty of sugar to be had here). Cresent donut was a big fav back in the college days and I've returned here serveral times since. Their cake donut holes are amazing, and if you get the right worker, fairly frequently you'll get about 30 holes for the price of 13. It's a great little clean hole-in-the-wall. read more

It must have been a year ago when I stumbled across the place while looking for a gas station. I was hungry, went in and bought a donut. I pulled it out of the bag while I was driving back to my friend's house, and took a bite. I almost crashed the truck, it was so good. The next day on my way out of town, I went back. The best donuts in Bloomington by far! there are some negative reviews in here talking about customer service but I can attest from personal experience that this is not the case. Just today I asked the shop owner (Peter) if I could come into his business and shoot some video for one of my classes and he could not have been more welcoming. Also one of the employees (Erica) allowed me to interview her for the project as well. This doughnut shop is the real deal. These are really great doughnuts. The yeast doughnuts are light with a yeasty chewiness, the cake doughnuts have a fine crumb. They don't seem greasy, so you can eat a lot of them. Try a warm cinnamon sugar cake -- sublime! The glazed twist yeast--perfection! The chocolate iced custard filled -- delectable! The big white bakery box with the donut guy -- classic! Most national donut days they do a nice promotion for the armed services, except the last one when the career doughnut maker had unexpectedly passed, and the shop was in mourning and they were missing their baker. Yes, it's a little like the Seinfeld soup episode where you have to know what you want and how to order. Yes, not the friendliest in customer service, These are just real people making you really great donuts. Consistent product, they look great. Bring cash if possible, be polite, don't waste their time because it's a volume business, and appreciate and patronize an endangered species -- the great American donut shop. We love Crescent donuts. You probably will, too, if you like good donuts. It's not fancy, but it's real; real good. I am the biggest fan of donuts you'll ever meet. (I'm currently planning a road trip to hit the best donut joints.) Cresent is #1 on my list. Every time I walk in and see all the delicious choices, I feel as if I'm in heaven. It's open all the time so you can get your fix whenever the mood strikes. And it's cheap! The donuts are amazing, the prices are great, and the coffee is good. This would be a 5 star review if the two women behind the counter this morning around 9:30am weren't so rude. I was on the phone with my mom, and when I walked in I stood near the door to indicate I wasn't going to order yet - because I know it is rude to talk on the phone while ordering. Even though I didn't make any indication I was waiting to be helped, or that I was being impatient, because I wasn't, the two women behind the counter proceeded to talk loudly about how they need a sign saying no cell phones, and that they can't take my order because I'm on the phone and it's rude.... I wasn't being rude, I was looking at the options while I was on the phone to decide what I wanted. As soon as I got off the phone I ordered, paid and left. My husband went in this morning and person at the counter was having a conversation with a woman who was leaving the store. The counter person continued the conversation without even acknowledging my husband. After about 30-45 seconds of being ignored, he walked out. A few minutes later he called and asked to speak to the manager. The manager argued with him that 30 seconds wasn't too long to wait to be served. Two friends and I went to Cresent Donut around 2 a.m. it was quiet, and smelled of sugar, pastry, and coffee when we walked in. The selection was limited, but everything was extremely fresh, some items were being brought to the front to be sold as we walked in. One of my friends was disappointed because there were no yeast donuts yet, but she settled for a fresh cake donut that she said was soft and flavorful. I ordered a cream horn and a cream filled chocolate iced donut. Both donuts were fresh. The combination of the sugar, the flaky pastry, and grease were perfect. The pastry was crisp, yet soft and melted in my mouth. The sugary cream was sweet without being overwhelming. I paid for myself and my friends. We got several donuts and a bottle of milk for less than six dollars. This is a little more expensive than the donuts you would get at the grocery store, but they are worth it. The quality is much better than what you could get at Kroger's. The cashier behind the counter greeted us the instant that we walked it, and asked us what he could get us. He was very apologetic that they didn't have yeast donuts, but offered a substitute quickly. He told us that the yeast donuts would take longer simply because of the yeast donuts needing to rise several times. He was knowledgeable and came back to the counter where we sat several times to make sure that we were OK and didn't need anything. Over all I am looking forward to going back many more times, though maybe a little earlier in the evening or a little later in the morning! read more

It may seem shady and hard to find, but Crescent has the best donuts ever and they're super cheap, esp if you go after 11pm. However, you'll have the biggest selection when they open early in the morning. It's a Bloomington staple and somewhere the townies keep coming back to. read more

I went Sunday morning at about 5:30 to get some regular glazed donuts and some cinnamon twists (which I understand are hard to find nowadays). I first asked if they had any cinnamon twists and the guy behind the counter said no in the most rude way. I said ok, what about the regular glazed (since I didn't see any out - this is usually a staple I thought that every donut place must have!!) he said, "no!" Like he was trying to convey that i was such an idiot for asking such a crazy question, then he walked to the back of the store. I felt like I wasn't welcome so I left. Went to square donuts where I was welcome and helped by friendly employees. I understand it was early, but you are being paid to be there! Also, some sort of explanation would have been nice like "I'm sorry we just ran out, we will have more ready at such and such time.." Or "we ran out of something and couldn't make them today, would you like to try another donut?" Last time I came here the kid didn't say a word to me the whole time. I think I will go with square donuts from now on. I don't recommend. read more

In all honesty though, these donuts are just as good on Sunday morning at 9 a.m. as they are at midnight on Saturday.
