After a long weekend of hosting and attending CIAA events, a group of us decided to try Creole Soul Kitchen and Bar, a Black-owned restaurant, and it did not disappoint. The space is small but cozy, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We were greeted by a friendly hostess, and one of the owners even stopped by to help serve and check on us. Our waitress, T, was very kind and attentive. We started with cocktails and shared appetizers including the fried green tomatoes, lemon pepper Bayou wings, Brussels sprouts, and shrimp and crab dip--everything was delicious and well-plated. For entrées, our table had the spicy chicken voodoo pasta with shrimp, Mamie's shrimp and grits, CSR's chicken and sweet potato waffle, seafood mac & cheese, and I had the ultimate seafood gumbo. Every dish was flavorful and satisfying. The owners were welcoming and took time to share the story behind the restaurant, which made the experience even better. I heard they also have another spot in Remington that I plan to visit soon. Definitely worth checking out--I'll be back!

My work team booked Creole Soul Kitchen & Bar to celebrate my birthday and another coworker's sobriety anniversary. The food was highly recommended by another employee. I was excited and studied the menu all week because I like to anticipate my meal and everything looked so good. We had some issues at work and two employees tried to call to change the time or cancel the reservation 48 hours before the date, but said they weren't able to complete this action due to not being able to get anyone at the location on the phone to confirm the change. We decided to still go and celebrate! Two of the members of the group arrived at the time of the reservation and the other members each came separately until the full party was there. We were informed that 85% of the party must be present before seating and since we weren't the $40 credit (reservation fee) toward the bill would be forfeited. It was lunch time, so we no one was there but our group. I understand the policy and the team was willing to eat the credit in order to have the lunch after inquiring if it could be waived. The problem is the level of customer service going back and forth with the hostess, bartender and then the manager that I witnessed. Once the policy was explained, there does not need to be a long conversation. By this time I was hangry! We decided to go to another restaurant. When paying for a meal, I want to be welcomed, not feel stressed. If I was the manager, I would not let a group of this size walk out of my restaurant. I was disappointed but still hope they are successful.

For appetizers we order, fried green tomatoes topped with shrimp and Brussels Sprouts with candied sweet potatoes and maple syrupand Bayou Wings. We had the Ultimate Seafood Gumbo and the Seafood Mac's and Cheese. Both terrific dishes. We had a chance to speak with the Chef and wish her a Happy Mothers Day. Ruth our waitress was very attentive. Always a nice atmosphere.

My niece took me here for lunch and it was amazing!! First of all our server was fantastic! She gave us some great recommendations, was very welcoming, and checked on us often. Everything we tried was an excellent choice! The crispy maple sweet potatoes and brussel sprouts are absolutely delicious!! We also had the Maryland Shrimp and Crab dip which was also a hit. I got the chicken and sweet potato waffles and my niece got the spicy chicken voodoo pasta as our entrees. The space is nice and clean and there is a laid back vibe. The only downside for me is it is street parking and you have to pay to park. However, I can't wait to return to try other menu items. It is a hidden gem:)

We went here for dinner, it was very nice. The space was spacious and clean. The music was nice and the food was okay. Big portions and the service was pretty good. She was busy and seemed like she had a lot of tables, so we understood but waiting 30 mins for water was a lot.

Peach cobbler served piping hot in a cast iron skillet. Topped with vanilla ice cream

It's been open since 1994, and it's easy to see why. Ethel's is really homey and cozy and comfortable. It feels like you've taken a little day trip to New Orleans. We each ordered a couple of drinks (something tropical with rum for me, a martini for my friend, and sangria for my other friend). We shared a few items from their menu: Creole Shrimp Boat (sauteed shrimp, mussels, jumbo lump crab meat, and the fish of the day simmered in a fire roasted red bell pepper sauce, with Creole rice and the vegetable of the day); Hot Cat Stack (fried catfish stacked with sweet and savory Andouille sausage cornbread, spicy crawfish red pepper meunière, honey chive compound butter, hot honey, and the vegetable of the day); a half rack of ribs (slow roasted ribs, Louisiana dry rub seasoning, mopped in BBQ sauce, mashed potato, and the vegetable of the day); and a strawberry bread pudding. Everything was delicious. I liked every course we had, but the Hot Cat Stack was wow. I've had a lot of bad to blah bread puddings in my life, but Ethel's wasn't bad or blah. It was delicious - and not dry at all. At all. The service was friendly but not the fastest (we waited a while for dessert) and maybe just a little scattered! But we eventually got everything we ordered, and the meal overall was wonderful: delicious, fun, casual. I'd love to return!

I started with the spicy crab dip which came with a big piece of garlic bread. It was delicious but I do feel like the dip could have had more of a crab flavor. Next I did the Chipotle maple salmon with cilantro rice, also very delicious along with the lobster shrimp salmon belly curry. WOW! Lastly the peach creme brulee tasted more like sweet potato but that's the only thing I didn't enjoy. Would definitely go back!

If I had to pick things out that made this not be a five star experience I'd pick the following: -for 600 dollars for two people you'd want it to be the best meal you've ever had. It's not that. -was there anything I could say was the best thing i have ever eaten? Not really it's all well prepared but the only thing i would really crave again is the espresso mousse. -the bread being room temp/burnt bring its down , i understand going for the rustic French look, but slicing stale bread and serving it with house butter is meh. In general I'd say , it's a great restaurant, the food and drinks are top quality, but when you're paying as much as you're paying for a special meal it doesnt necessarily take the ball across the goal line. My Chinese takeout the night before was more satisfying.

I ordered the smothered pork chop dinner with a side of rice and gravy and collard greens, and I added add'l sides of sweet potato casserole and stuffing (for an additional fee for each.) Like I said, the smothered pork chops were extremely tender. I didn't even need a knife, I honestly could have used a spoon to eat them. The gravy could have used a tad more salt or chicken bouillon, but the flavor was good and the gravy had a good consistency. The collard greens were really good. I'm not sure whether or not they use meat, but I liked them. I absolutely loved the sweet potato casserole. It was very sweet, just like I like it. The cornbread dressing was good, but I should've gotten my gravy on top of it to keep it super moist. Next time I will do it with the gravy on top.
