My husband and I went here together and absolutely loved it. The food is 10/10. It doesn't get better than this bbq. The location is beautiful with a creek and outside seating with heaters to keep guests warm. When we were planning our wedding, we were pleasantly surprised when we found out they do catering. My 2-meat combo came with two sides. My pulled pork was excellent. The brisket was chewy, not falling apart as it would be if it had been cooked a long time below 200F. My choice of sides was unfortunate. I doubled down on the Cole slaw: large portions of typical cabbage with too much clingy sauce. I guess I took the excellence for granted, from two previous places. They had a porter on draft, and I got the last one. It was a Siluria with strong coffee notes (not coffee, no caffeine). My guess, it was a Baltic Porter. VG+ (4.5/5). The only Red BBQ sauce was thin and overly salty. The white one... White? Ugh. So this place is hit or miss. Friendly people, though. As an out-of-oowner, I would not go back, but locals might get the measure of the place and like it. read more

The brisket was dryer than sandpaper, the chicken tasted as if it was smoked with liquid smoke flavored water chips with the sauce being unappetizing, the Mac & Cheese tasted like Bob Evans Mac & cheese with the topping being crushed up BBQ chips, the greens tasted liked sugared kale, and the white sauce/ranch was light on the dip and vinegar side. The toasted bread was the most flavorful thing I ate there. Service was pleasant. Nice and clean... Yet, there are people who managed to improve upon something that has long been thought to have reached perfection. The founder, Eric Pippert, not to be confused with Eric Rippert, is a true master of the craft. Hailing from North Carolina and Tennessee kitchens, his concept of Creekside BBQ is clearly more than a winner, it is a place that gained enormous respect of locals within only a year of having fired up the smoker. In this state, it is not an easy feat by any means. The ribs are extremely juicy, flavorful and delicate. The smoked chicken wings are great. The brisket is an experience of tenderness and fatty pleasure. Smoked grits are a unique creation and the fried green tomatoes are crusted in a sort of cornmeal that adds a pleasant crunch. To make matters even better, Eric was working the kitchen and the man taking orders was extremely kind. The patio had a nice view of the creek and design of iron bar chairs and wood is both special and beautiful. Local brews, full selection of meats, and a nice variety of really good sides, (get the corn casserole and definitely the grits). Friendly service. Free self serve refills on the sweet tea...and they've got the good ice, (iykyk). The place is spotless, even the bathrooms. There's bar seating and booths, plus tables on the back porch for those who want to dine outdoors. I've had the pulled pork, the pulled chicken, the brisket, and the pork belly and all were good but the pork belly is amazing. Nice sear, melt in your mouth deliciousness perfect texture. Order it. I had heard and read great reviews for this place so I thought we'd try it out. My husband is a bbq fan, so he definitely had to go. The parking lot was packed but we were able to walk right in and sit at the bar. My husband ordered ribs with potato salad and cheese grits. He was very impressed. He said the ribs were cooked just right and flavorful. The cheese grits were delicious- with gouda and fried to look like a pancake. When you cut into it, the inside was creamy and warm! He's picky when it comes to potato salad, but enjoyed that as well! I had a brisket sandwich with fries. I asked what kind of fries they were (steak,shoestring,etc,) The waiter said " the perfect kind- crispy on the outside and soft on the inside." He was correct! The fries were between the size of a steak fry and much bigger than shoestring fries. Sprinkled with a light seasoning, they were exactly as the waiter stated- perfect! My sandwich was delish as well. The brisket was tender and had a nice vinegar white sauce, fried onions and wickles. Yummy! The bread was nice and fresh, too. I stopped by late Friday afternoon to order a to-go plate. Ordering was quick and pleasant. The interior and outside patio would be great for in-house dining. I had the 2 meat combo with corn pudding and fried green tomatoes. The ribs were on point and just the way I like them. I prefer a little chew rather than a fall off the bone finish and these were perfect. The brisket was also good, although I found it just a little dry. Sauce was quite tasty. I'll definitely return. I'd also add that I've tried the BBQ at the local chains around Bham and have found them all lacking in one or more respects. Creekside is crushing it! read more

First visit. Had the bbq and brisket combo. Both meats were tender and juicy with a superb charred flavor accent. Spot on! The collard greens were flavorful with a unique twist to the seasoning. Would have preferred more regarding the fried green tomatoes as the slices were small and wafer thin, failing to provide enough content to convey the tart taste one expects with these (Would rather have one beefy slice instead of three that come up short). Glad to have this restaurant as an option in the area. I called in and placed my order for the garden salad that simply has cheddar, tomato, and onion but I added chicken. Nice portion size of the salad but the amount of chicken given for an additional price is what won me over. There was enough overall for two meals, enjoyed with what I think was spicy ranch. They actually tasted straight out of a can with zero help or effort. I know there was attempted help, I saw the little bits of rib meat in them. I had the smash burger! When I say, this burger good. Who knew the old Waffle House had such a nice backyard? I was impressed at the transformation of the WH; you could still vaguely envision where everything was, but it also looks and feels totally different. Loved the back porch that I'll need to go back to try when it's warmer. Heard one of the guys say they have heaters for out there, but they aren't working yet. We ordered a chicken-loaded potato and a chopped pork plate. The white sauce has a bit of a tang to it that surprised me, but it married well with the sour cream. I think the "loaded" refers to being loaded with meat as it didn't have all the normal loaded ingredients of other local bbq joint potatoes. Still pretty good, though, and certainly filling. The pork plate with sides of fries and mac and cheese was also well-liked, though he thought the fries were a little over seasoned/salty for his taste. I visited for the first time this week, after seeing all of these rave reviews. From my experience, I feel like this is a more rounded approach: Cons: the brisket sandwich that I had was dry, specifically the meat itself. If you know BBQ, you know this is a *crime.* The portion size was also pretty standard, but overpriced ($15). I also had the Mac & cheese, which was very middle of the road. Neither item was particularly warm (room temp / lukewarm). Pros: everyone that works here is SUPER nice, and very helpful. The food was brought out quickly as well. The ambiance in Creekside is very nice and cozy - lots of seating, a back deck, and everything was very clean. Now, they may have other menu items that are 5 star, but this was what I came away with. Still worth considering if nearby, but in terms of the best BBQ around, I would disagree. read more

Creekside BBQ is in a great location. It is off the road that you take from Interstate 65 to get to Oak Mountain State Park. I stopped yesterday after my round of golf at the park. I believe Creekside will get a lot of customers coming from or going to the park. The restaurant is an old Waffle House, so the layout is that familiar dining counter with open kitchen. They did a very nice job redecorating the floor plan to a comfortable and credible BBQ place. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and a side of collard greens. The bun was a standard store-bought hamburger bun, and it was stacked with delicious pulled pork. Mine had some nice bark mixed in, The pork was moist and tender, and the flavors stood on it's own. Despite that, I did enjoy alternating between the traditional vinegary BBQ sauce and the Alabama white sauce. Both were excellent. The collards were unusual, butI liked them. They were almost black in color, and they were very sweet with just a hint of vinegar. Creekside will also offer beers and they have several taps for craft beers. Overall, the restaurant has a ton of potential. Location is ideal and the food and service were great on my visit. read more

It was my first time going here while in town for a couple days, my mom and I stopped in for lunch around 1120, it was busy but we got our food quickly. I got the pulled pork sandwich with Mac and cheese and baked beans, mom had the pulled pork bbq salad, both were great. Presentation was nice. The Gouda grits were almost like a fried patty and my guy didn't like them nor the sweet taste of the collard greens. We had a sour batch of the sauce but borrowed a fresh bottle from another table. That sauce was excellent! Fries were crisp and yummy. My guy's ribs were pretty good. Despite the ratings, this is one of the best bbq places I could find in the Shelby country area! I've had a lot of bbq from Texas, that's why the rating is somewhat harsh. My only complaint, the brisket was a bit dry and the 2 bbq sauce's offered wasn't as tasty as others I've experienced in the past. Other than that, a solid choice for some local bbq. The pulled chicken and the ribs were both super tasty and juicy!
