There's a bookshelf in the back, but I didn't get to check it to comment about the collection
Wai C.

My first time here. I had an americano and an almond croissant. Both were good enough taste- and quality- wise. What made the difference for me is the ambience and service. The Barista was super friendly and takes great care of the foods and the customer. She heated up my travel mug before making the coffee, this is such an important detail that most places just don't care about. She also offered to cut up my croissant as I mentioned I wasn't going to eat it all at once. The croissant was heated up so well, nice and crispy so it felt like it was just freshly made. The space is beautiful and clean. The front of the cafe gets beautiful natural light and the back is cozy. There's mixed types of seating, from high counters, regular tables, to soft cozy chairs and a couch. My only suggestion is to bring in more soft wall art to dampen the din (it wasn't even that busy when I was there, but the walls are too bare and sounds were just bouncing off the walls, big glass window and the beautiful exposed brick wall) as that extra consideration helps with the already nice vibe. I also wish the people, that looked like regulars, didn't take up two stools at the premium counter by the large window.

Heaffles - Gross strawberry syrup covered waffle

If you're GF Not Worth Jumping Through the Hoops…read more When I found this place online, I was so excited. When one must follow a gluten-free diet, it is so nice to find places where you can eat what everyone else gets to enjoy. This was anything but enjoyable. I was planning a little Halloween getaway to Kingston and searching for a new and exciting breakfast place to stop on my way there. I found Heaffles and read through their website--I'm always very careful and vet my restaurants before the trip and plan food meticulously, you have to when you cannot eat gluten. The site stated that if you want a gluten free waffle, you must call 24 hours ahead of time. I immediately thought that was ridiculous (that eliminates any possibility of a GF person walk-in from eating there) but messaged them on Instagram. I asked if I could message then and schedule or did a I have to call. They told me I must call the day before. Pain in the bum, but I set a reminder in my phone and did so. The next day, I show up. Such a cute place and the breakfast that kicks off a trip always makes me so happy. We don't eat out much at all, living so rurally. It had also been ages since I'd enjoyed a GF waffle, so excitement was high. This place has a ton of potential. The seating is cute, the bathrooms clean and so beautifully decorated. There is even a little cubby with cushions that would make it feel as though one was having breakfast in bed. I really did fall in love with the space. There didn't appear to me to be a traditional server comes to your table. You walk in and place your order at the counter. I ordered a Flat White to drink along with a water and a gluten-free coconut rush. The young lady at the counter was very quick to tell me that they had a customer coming in to get a GF waffle and that they only had enough batter for one waffle and that I would need to try again and call 24 hours beforehand. Right before I told her I was that customer, my brain was like, what? You have enough batter for ONE waffle??? I make GF stuff all the time. It is NOT that expensive. And what if you mess up that ONE waffle (and they did because she didn't listen to me)? I said, "Oh, I called yesterday." And I had driven a very long way. I would hate for anyone else to do that and end up disappointed. After that, I was allowed to order my waffle. Coconut is my favourite sweet flavour, but it came with strawberries and strawberry syrup. I told her THREE times I didn't want the strawberries or the syrup. Strawberry jam, jelly syrup...I hate them all, also cannot stand cooked fruit. She told me she could put the strawberries on the side and that they were uncooked. I said that was okay, but reiterated AGAIN that I do not want or like the strawberry syrup. I thought I might get my drinks at the counter, but she said they would bring everything to my table. I sat within view of the counter by the window. I assumed, as at most places, the drinks would come out first. I had started on the Terra Health heartburn kit to kick my PPI script and needed to take the supplements before eating. Some ladies came in after me and they got their drink order while I sat and waited. The waffle came out, and I was too panicked by not taking my supplements to pay that much attention and told them I needed some water and that I didn't have my coffee yet. They came back in a few minutes and in the meantime, I saw that the waffle I'd paid nearly $30 for, along with a very tiny flat white coffee, was drenched...every inch in yucky strawberry syrup. I'm a silver lining kind of girl, so I told myself to try it, maybe my tastes have changed. Nope. It was this strong, chemically strawberry flavour that made me gag. Talk about disappointed. At this point it was late in the morning and I was starving. I opened up the waffle (the size, even if they'd managed to listen to my order was not worth what I paid) and ate some of the filling out. The only waffle that had no nasty syrup was at the fold and I ate the four bites I could. The coffee was literally 3 swallows. I left hungry and angry. And in all that time, no one ever came back to ask me how the order was...and I knew I couldn't send it back because that was their ONE GF waffle batter of the day. I had to stop at Wendy's and spend another $10 for a bunless burger after. I would never go back. The ask and not having the batter available is beyond RIDICULOUS, despite the fact they don't listen, which makes a GF person VERY nervous. You couldn't pay me to eat there again. Poor service, poor value and food I couldn't stomach. Not for me.

Wish I knew more about beans, but just from the way they explained calibration and how ambient weather affects the espresso, I felt like I was in good hands. I even several times skipped morning coffee at home to have my first cup here. They try to reflect your energy too, so if you seem like you just want caffeine, they are efficient, but if you initiate conversation, they return the favor. The coffee art is on point, and I even learned about which apparatus and method are easier for amateurs. They never hurried me, which I really appreciate. Great space for reading a book, meeting up with friends, or work session.

They are also a couple in real life. I first met them at ZeeV's Nutrition Studio. They decided to become business folks and run their own studio that features healthy shakes and teas. The official grand opening is March 4. Vi found out through Zenia at ZeeV's that I would be out of town that day, so I got the invitation to check out the new place today. The studio is located on Kingston Road, just east of Morningside Avenue. I took the backroads to get to this studio. I cut through the University of Toronto Scarborough campus. The location is awesome for students who want something healthy, yummy, and fast. The place is located in a small plaza. Domino's Pizza is a couple of doors down. There was plenty of parking. I pulled into a spot and walked over. I immediate recognized Vi's mom and aunts sitting by the window. They are a part of my storefront photo. They were not shy to turn away. I walked in and so many folks said hi to me, which was nice. Many ZeeV's customers were here. Amy and Vi have a dog named Pepper. She normally barks at strangers. She didn't with me. She came up to me and wanted affection and petting. Their menu is similar to ZeeV's, but with a shorter list of shakes and teas. I got the following items: - White chocolate Snickers shake - Strawberry Jolly Ranchers tea It's cheaper if you do a shake-tea combo than buying each on separately. I tend do down the shake for lunch on a Saturday and sip the tea throughout the day. I paid with a credit card. The payment system is sleek at this studio. It allows you to tip. All went well. I waited patiently for my drinks. I got complimentary mini protein donuts. I got Biscoff and chocolate Oreo, which were delicious. They plan on adding them to their menu down the road. What I love about the shakes and teas is that they have little to no sugar. It suits my needs perfectly. Both drinks also have a lot of nutrients that promote good health. Each shake has over 20 grams of protein, so you can easily do a meal replacement or have it as a snack to keep you content for a bit. The teas promote good gut health thanks to them having sugar-free aloe. I have always enjoyed the flavours. It's simply a bonus that they are good for you. The white chocolate Snickers was delicious. It had little bits of nuts and caramel that provided a nice contrast to the silky white chocolate shake itself. I loved it. The strawberry Jolly Ranchers tea tastes just like the candy, but in liquid form and without any sugar. It was yummy. Both Amy and Vi gained experience making shakes and teas at ZeeV's. They will go far with their own business after seeing them in action today. The studio has areas where you can take photos for social media. It's spacious with benches and bar seating to kick back and sip away. The place also has protein bites and bars. There were First Boost t-shirts available for purchase. I like the baseball cap that Vi had on and hope that it's a part of the accessories for sale down the road. I had a great experience today. Congrats to Vi and Amy's soft launch. I look forward to returning when the store is officially open. (40)

My rating is 3.5 stars. I'm rounding down…read more Last Friday, I was in the area to pick up some snacks at Wai Tack Kee in preparation for lunar new year. After fetching my order, I needed to find a Tim Hortons to get a special donut that was only available last weekend. I did a quick search and there was a Timmy's two blocks away. Sweet! I drove over to this Timmy's. It's a combo store with Wendy's. Here's proof that I am more of a Wendy's person than a Timmy's one. I went through the Wendy's drive-thru. It is such a habit. It was my first time driving right through it without placing an order. For a second, I thought about getting a Frosty, but I wasn't feeling it. I drove around the block and hit the proper Timmy's drive-thru. It was definitely a longer wait here than Wendy's. When it was my turn to order, I got a woman who seemed rather hasty. When I finally said that I wanted to get a #chooseToInclude donut, I got this exchange: "The sprinkle donut? Sure," she said. "Is that what the #chooseToInclude is also called? A sprinkle donut?" From what I saw in the graphic, half of the donut had sprinkles on it. I then heard a male colleague correct her and reassure me that my order was for this special donut. It's not the first time that I end up sounding brainy because a Timmy's employee doesn't know what's on the menu. If I came here just for an ordinary sprinkle donut, I'd be bummed out. I normally don't hit Timmy's for a donut. The whole reason why I wanted this donut was that all proceeds from its sale were going to Special Olympics Canada. I wanted to support it. I got to the window and had my Tim rewards barcode scanned from my phone. I paid with a debit card. I then got my donut. I thanked the woman, who didn't say a thing, and I headed home. I had my donut when I got home. The #chooseToInclude donut is a chocolate ring donut with white fondant, coloured sprinkles, and whipped topping. I do like Timmy's special donuts. This one was delightful. It had a bit of sweetness. I didn't crash from a sugar or carb high an hour later. It was so good for $1.69 before tax. I have a streak that continues where I don't get the warmest, most knowledgeable Timmy's employee at a drive-thru in the GTA. It's the main reason why I am not a regular. This Timmy's was fine. Not horrible. Not the best. Fine. (55)
