Happened to be in the area and stopped by for a snack. Great little coffee shop. Good atmosphere. Not a huge menu but has all the classics. Chai latte was 10/10 good. Not too weak. Ginger pear muffin was sooooo moist. Not very strong taste which was my preference. If you like ginger it would have been a touch weak. Friendly staff. Overall great spot to grab a coffee to go or sit and sip!

While no one was paying attention, Edmonton has quietly become a huge roasting city when it comes to coffee beans. It started sometime in the 2010s and has continued to snowball ever since. I can confirm that Edmonton is making a mark on the coffee scene in Canada because I have often visited trendy cafes in other cities (Vancouver, Toronto) and spotted bags of Edmonton-roasted beans for sale. One of the more popular cafes in the city is Credo and they've been around for quite a long time now. VUE Weekly voted them #1 Best Coffee Shop 2018 and Avenue Magazine named them Best Cafe 2019. With three locations in Edmonton, I decided to stop in and visit their original spot Downtown. The slogan at Credo is "coffee to believe in" and I think that this stems from their great respect for the process; from growers, to sourcers, to importers, to roasters. Credo does not roast their own beans, however they strive to deliver a wonderfully enhanced customer experience at their cafes. The Downtown shop is on 104th, which is one of the most hip little sections of the core. Entering the shop, the space feels airy with a high ceiling and very much like what you would expect from a fairly cool downtown cafe. I was a bit thrown off by all of the strange sports photography all over the walls (it felt pretty disconnected from the overall experience to me) although perhaps they rotate the art on display? I mean, it is hockey season and the arena is just up the street, so I suppose that I "get it" in that sense. I approached the counter and was served by a friendly staff member who was helpful and happy to answer my questions. The coffee menu features all of the usual suspects and not much in the way of surprises. However, I noticed their seasonal feature, a Spiced Honey Latte (Spice-infused honey blended with espresso and steamed milk - $6.00 for regular) and decided that this would be my beverage of choice. I love Credo's logo of latte art on a dark brown background and I especially love that they'll hand you a coffee that looks exactly the same. However, the coffee itself was unfortunately a bit underwhelming for me. Maybe I'm not enough of an "adult" when it comes to coffee but this one was too strong and bitter for my taste. I was really looking forward to an interesting honey-spiced flavour but could hardly detect anything that stood out. I really want to enjoy Credo's coffee but something about it is just lacking for me. Credo also offers some food items and these range from wraps and bagels to baking that has been made in-house. I'd heard that the Cheddar Cornmeal Muffin ($3.00) was extra special and must be tasted. Golden yellow with a slight caramelization around the edges, I was excited to dig into these bad boys! Imagine a really soft and delightful cornbread and you'll be on the right track to picturing what these taste like. They're a bit crumbly like cornbread and I loved the actual bits or corn kernel throughout. But the thing that surprised me the most was the spice! These muffins pack a pretty hefty kick! However, the heat is well balanced by the sweetness from the corn. The one ingredient that I found to be a bit lost was the cheddar. I couldn't really taste it and for some reason I imagined a cheesier (gooier?) inside to the muffin, which was not the case. Lastly, I'd also heard that they make a pretty delicious Cookie ($2.25), specifically the chocolate chip, oatmeal and sunflower seed one. (Yes, that's all one cookie.) There was certainly nothing not to love about this. I loved the perfect oatmeal flavour and the way that it played with the chocolate. The sunflower seeds added an extra earthiness. The cookie was soft, chewy, full of texture, and an overall delight. I really wanted to be blown away by Credo but unfortunately I was not. I'm not quite sure if it's me and my lacking expertise with coffee... But I do know that there are other cafes in the city who's coffee I enjoy a lot more (especially at this price point). The atmosphere is generally lovely at Credo and it's a perfect place to have a relaxing seat. The food was half decent as well. Cafes can also be pretty subjective and it's certainly not a one-size-fits-all situation. Credo most definitely has its own die-hards and for this reason I would absolutely give them a try for yourself to see where you land.

Wanted to try "Coffee bureau" but it was closed. :( It's only 2 minutes away. Nice " plan b " anyways! ;) I really enjoyed their " macchiato brownie ". Sweet and rich texture. Haven't tried the coffee this time. Seems like they have 2 adresses downtown. The other one seems to be more up to date and trendy. Would come here again 1000 times before I go to a coffee chain.

Cappuccino with 'Earth' chocolate

Love this place!! It has the best coffee hands down with the best latte art as well which makes for a great Instagram picture haha I had a cappuccino along with one of their house made chocolates. Each of their chocolates have very interesting names; the one I tried was called 'Earth'. It had a outer hard candy coating with a soft chocolate centre that tasted like cinnamon and ginger. This is definitely one of my favourite places to chill and get some work done with a perfect cup of coffee to keep me going! Prices are comparable to all other cafes but the hours are a bit shorter - it closes at 6 pm usually so make sure to go early.

This is a nice place for a coffee downtown. It's right in the centre of everything. It's bright and modern on the inside with a wide variety of seating options. On the outside this is the rebuilt historic Kelly Ramsey Building so it's got lots of character. I ordered a coffee and a muffin. If you've had Credo's coffees before you know that your getting a top quality product. Even the muffin was fresh and they sold a number of different kinds. I had the pear & ginger which was both light and flavourful at the same time. Since I was here solo I sat at the bar table facing the window and watching the people go by. I walked here from the LRT. Driving downtown these days is not a good option but if you must drive you'll be happy to know that there is an above ground parkade kitty corner to this location. I don't come downtown as much as I used to but when I do need to go to the city centre I usually stop in here. It's always busy but never crowded. What you need to know. Washrooms are a weird situation. You must ask for the key which is actually a big metal thing with a door fob attached. You then walk up some stairs to the office building lobby and then up more stairs to the second floor. For the effort you get to use very high tech and clean washrooms. Tip the hand dryer is built into the water tap.

Credo is a really awesome coffee shop. What's not to like, eh? Great coffee using Intelligentsia beans, lovely latte art, delicious cookies... oh my! Also, on Edmonton's 4th street promenade, open till 9 p.m. on school nights and of course, right on the LRT! The coffee is made with love for the process and the staff are generally happy. The owners are always hovering around and it's good to be humbled by a small discussion with a business' owner! It's always full so clearly they're doing well for themselves. In contrast, I get the feeling that Transcend on Jasper, pretty much a stone's throw away (no, literally - I think I could throw a stone from Credo to Transcend), isn't doing nearly as well. Following the cafe formula that is well accepted nowadays of having local art exhibits on the walls, indie music playing and of course, lovely clean and minimalist furniture, they've got all it takes to maintain their name in the elite coffee niche in town. Are they the best coffee shop? Perhaps! Although, I give Transcend a bit more credit for being the only real visionary in the department of coffee in Edmonton.

Very cool coffee art - an artistic leaf design to top my London Fog. The perfect amount of strong tea and sweetness in my cup, too. I like the vibe in here. It's perfect for business meetings, and freelancers with laptops surround you. The only problem? The tables here are tiny, allowing for only one laptop at a time. There are also only four plug-ins at CC, so make sure you have plenty of juice before you arrive to work. I haven't tried any of the snack types yet, but it all looks fresh and flavourful - at least one reason to come back!

soy latte
Michelle G.

I first tried Credo Coffee when I arrived a bit early for the Saturday City Market and sipped slowly on a very nice soy latte. It was a bit busy, but I grabbed a seat facing 104 street before they filled up, and even found an outlet for my laptop (p.s. they have wifi!) They use Silk soymilk (or at least did on that occasion), and it seems to have a (in my opinion) nicer consistency than the one Starbucks uses after being frothed. Another plus is they are NICE. My barista was friendly and chatted with me while he made my drink. Just a great atmosphere all around, the interior colour scheme is very appealing. Modern and comfortable.

Large hot chocolate & regular chai. Decent size for what you pay for.

It's a downtown location, so parking nearby is mostly metered along the streets if you can find a spot. The cafe itself has dim lighting & modern industrial decor. The atmosphere is pleasant and buzzing with conversation when I was there. Space inside the cafe is pretty tight, so it's not a place I'd recommend for larger groups. It's also not very child friendly (obviously as it's a coffee spot), but, the bathroom does have long sink that can be used as a diaper change table in a pinch. I do like how they support local shops as they carry jacek chocolates in their edible options. However, I was pretty disappointed in the beverages I ordered...the drink presentation is beautiful btw. I am not a coffee drinker, so I ordered a chai latte which I found to taste overly spiced, and a hot chocolate that verged on more bitter than sweet despite 2 packs of sugar I added. Service wasn't anything special either, but it was also very busy with a long lineup (guess their coffee game is stronger than any other drinks they offer), but I probably won't be returning unless their non coffee beverages improve.

The wrong hours....

Ok, So the hours are totally wrong. They are only open to 6pm.... Argh. Unsatisfactory.

another hidden cafe gem in Edmonton close to the high level bridge…read more It's a cool cafe that looks like a house from the outside.

Oh. Em. Squeal!!!!!…read more First off, mad props to my friend for introducing me to this charming new addition to the coffee scene. Stop Gap opened just under a month ago in Oliver. They describe themselves as a temporary (stop gap) means to filling a need - coffee - served with an intentional and caring heart. Caleb Kam, the owner, is warm and inviting. He definitely knows his coffee. You may know him from his former life at Brown Butter Cafe. Caleb focuses on Canadian, fresh, and local! I spotted Ace and Candid today (Edmonton gems). The clientele were sweet and happy to offer up their faves! Nathan, a regular, told me Caleb is the go to for the best pour over in town. I opted for a Dirty Chai - made to perfection and my friend had a oat milk chai complete with milk art adorning the top. Both beverages were perfection. Coffee can be consumed in house complete with adorable coasters (el gato was my fave naturally, meow) or taken to go. For seating, there is a cute bench against the window front and a side room available if not booked. Caleb also had fresh donuts from Fuzion in Chinatown. My friend and I shared the cake and Cinnamon bun donut today. Sooo ridiculously good. Be sure to check Fuzion out online - they don't have a storefront so you will need to order in advance if you are looking to up your donut game at your next office meeting. I seriously can't wait to come back here again! Oh and they also have a beautiful meeting space available for rent on the main floor in case you want to bring your next staff meeting to the best coffee in town! Such a true pleasure meeting you today, Caleb! Stop Gap is exactly what YEG needs!

The coffee shop's location is on the second floor of the building (right next door to the restaurant Sugarbowl), and offers an awesome view of the North Saskatchewan river, downtown / Jasper Ave on one side, and the Garneau neighborhood on the other side. The place is filled with antique furniture, wooden floors, but also a touch of modern style as well. With the decor, the smell of coffee, along with the presence of coffee drinkers and enthusiasts, Kaffa is very inviting and a great place to drink coffee, eat and be with someone (or by oneself). Kaffa has its own coffee roasting machine on location - so I hope you can imagine the smell of coffee is very much present here at Kaffa!!! It's very nice. Kaffa, both a derivative and coffee region in Ethiopia, also sells their roasted coffee, and tea as well. Ethiopia, as well as a few Central American countries, provide beans for the roastery. Kaffa also offers art space for local artists, but music concerts as well. Anyone with questions or inquiries can contact Kaffa (their email address is on their website, kaffaroasterystudio.com).

Really excellent Persian food. We stumbled on this in the west end when we were doing errands…read more We decided on the kabob platter for us. It came with Koobideh (Two skewers of Juicy ground beef kabab) , Chicken kabab Joojeh (Sineh) and grilled tomatoes. Served with 4 servings of saffron rice. It is made for 3-4 but we enjoy leftovers. Food was amazing! The rice was so fluffy! Appreciated all the raw sliced onions and the grilled tomatoes (however I could have used less char on them). They gave us two dips to try with pita bread - Zeytoon Parvardeh Brined olives mixed with crushed walnuts and rich pomegranate molasses, and Mast - o - Moosir - Creamy yogurt blended with shallots and garnished with dried mint. Both were so amazing and full of flavour. Our platter also came with pickled...I want to say cabbage which was so delicious with the meat. The meat itself was well cooked and full of favour. I preferred the beef to the chicken but both were delicious. I really wanted to try the saffron ice cream, which was a great end of the meal paired with some tea. The ice cream itself wasn't so sweet which I really appreciated. Our server was lovely and friendly and super helpful. It looses a star because it was cold - both in esthetics and in temperature. I would love to see some more Persian décor to make dining more of a trip. We will be back again because there are many things on the menu that I would like to try.
