I wanted to update my kitchen to make it brighter and fit in with the style of the rest of the house but needed help with what to do. Shawn took a look around, listened to what I had in mind, and thankfully told me what would or wouldn't work. He picked a beautiful quartz counter top, gave me options to choose from for the paint, faucet and hardware. He has a great team working for him. They were respectful and trustworthy. The refinished cabinets look like new. They do high quality work. He made his best effort to get things done within the time frame discussed but, as with any renovation, there were some unexpected issues that led to minor delays and affected cost. I really appreciated how his main concern was that I was happy with the end result. 4.5 stars We did a full kitchen remodel soon after moving into our new home (before we got too settled). Due to unusual circumstances, we had a very tight timeline (see below for more details) so they were able to finish in 2 1/2 months. Overall, we are very happy with the end result and love our new, open layout! TL:DR version: - GREAT construction team/vendors and Fadil is the BEST project manager. Also the flooring contractor, Izec, is amazing. - Loved the design recommendations made by Shawn, like the floating shelves and bench by the window. - Pricing is competitive. Quality of work is fantastic. Designs are beautiful. - Area of improvement: better communication throughout the project. I had to be proactive and ask a lot of questions and follow up often. They offer both design and construction services, all under the same owner. This was convenient in that I only had to deal with one company and they took care of everything. Our project was unusual in that I was 6 months pregnant when we started the project. Typically, they don't start on construction until all materials are in stock but we needed to get things moving and completed quickly, so we ordered mostly standard sized and in-stock materials. The owner, Shawn, kept his promise on adhering to our timeline to the best of his ability, even as we ran into challenges with plumbing, structural, and electrical. His team worked tirelessly--even on weekends--to meet our deadline, without sacrificing quality or details. With any major construction, nothing is flawless. The one challenge I had, which may be unique to my circumstance, was getting proactive updates and just overall communication. At times, the construction team didn't even know what they were working on. Some of the designs didn't match the materials ordered. There was some miscommunication on which materials we were responsible for vs. what they would get for us. These were minor issues that eventually got resolved but it did cause me some stress and unrest. Highly recommend being proactive, with any big construction project, and staying close to the details... At the end of the day, despite some bumps, we now have our dream kitchen! And it was completed in record time! Last but not least, if you're told that any materials are "stuck" at the Oakland port, GET SOMETHING ELSE that's in stock. We lucked out big time in finding Shawn and his team. After interviewing 7 options last Spring for our kitchen/interior living space remodel, we knew Shawn was our guy. We've now been in our finished kitchen and house for a few months and love it more every day. We still can't believe the transformation and beyond the beautiful upgrade across the board, his design and recommendations made it SO much more functional. From the design process to communication and his project manager/workers, everyone was a true professional. No kitchen horror stories and they finished exactly on time. Shawn and his team were absolutely amazing and professional. We got in touch for a quote and to go over what we wanted with our kitchen renovation late spring this year. By August we decided we wanted to move forward and Shawn was very clear on the timeline and very good with communicating what we were to expect with any potential delays, progress in the renovation etc. My husband and I always had our questions answered and the contractors and team were all friendly, respectful and quick. The work and high quality of the materials used were everything we had hoped for. We were quoted at most a 6 week timeline for demo/kitchen cabinet install + backsplash, electrical, flooring, a details. We did a complete remodel of our primary bathroom and are happy we chose Shawn and his team for the job. Our original bathroom layout had an outdated and cramped layout. We went to Shawn requesting to create a more modern and open bathroom with the small space we had to work with. Shawn's team completely transformed it, bringing our vision to life. Oh my was I wrong. Sometimes people have a TON of things going on in life which others do not know about. I had no idea so I'm rescinding my review from yesterday. I was out of line. While it didn't work out it had nothing to do with Shawn (or me). My wife, bless her, has different ideas that after 20 years I was not aware of. Personally, I feel I CAN pick a good designer and contractor, even without me having any design experience. I liked Shawn the moment he walked in. Very energetic and friendly af. Just a good guy altogether. Now that we've talked things out, I feel foolish having lieft the review from yesterday. Even though we aren't working together anymore Create has decided to refund a part of the payment. Something a past designer refused to do. I hired create interior design for my home addition and renovation project. We added on square footage, took down walls to make the space more open concept, we renovated the kitchen and one bathroom and built a master en-suite. I chose them because of Shawn attention to detail, excellent communication skills, reassuring vibe and his apparent willingness to go above and beyond. We interviewed few contractors and designers, but he was the only one who created amazing 3d design to help me see the potential for my project. Shawn was also gave me a list with prices of all the finishing projects I would need to purchase, and it was priceless for the time that save me, (this my second reno) Throughout the reno we had unforeseen issues such as weather (extensive rain), needing to rent a temporary power pole, a very particular city inspector, and waiting on steps needing to be taken by the utility company that delayed my project. Choose Shawn. This man turned our house into a home, and both my husband and I are very happy with how our kitchen reno turned out. Day one, Shawn walked into our kitchen and said the golden words "I see a lotta potential", which is exactly what we wanted to hear. Although we knew what style and general direction we wanted for the kitchen (ie. modern scandinavian with a touch of farmhouse), Shawn actually put his artistic pen to the paper. After 2 or so weeks, Shawn showed us a beautiful rendering, and we just couldn't wait to see it come to life. Once we decided to move forward, Shawn's team got to work immediately. I must say, Manwell (Shawn's GC manager) and his team is the most hardworking, detailed to attention folks I've ever seen, and you can really tell they take pride in their work. For example, our backsplash tiles are very tricky to do because every single one of them is handcrafted, meaning there are bumps & irregularity shaped, and has different color for each piece. However, the tile specialist really took his time, piece by piece, until they look perfect. And I just have to say, the results blew our mind, and it looks 1000 times better than on the original rendering. BIG shout out to Manwell for being the best GC manager we can ever ask for. You can tell he's very knowledgeable and skilled, and know every single corner of our kitchen inside out. Manwell is on site every single day, and for every single issue that came up, he is able to resolve it immediately with a solution. Every renovation has roadblocks (eg. delays, missing parts etc), but Shawn handled everything that comes up in a professional manner. He's very quick thinking and always comes up with the most efficient solution that is best for clients. We trust him 100% that he will always make the best decisions for us. Our project started when we had an old kitchen and a poorly located garage-access door in the middle of our family room. We knew we wanted to update the kitchen and figure out what to do with the door, but didn't know where to start. A Facebook friend referred me to Shawn and he came to our rescue. We first connected with Shawn about providing designer services, just to help us imagine the possibilities and give us some photo-realistic renderings of what our space could look like. At our first walk-through he listened to our needs and offered up creative ideas to help us solve some of the challenges we were facing. We shared some Pinterest photos of design aesthetics we liked, and that's all he needed. He quickly turned around stunning renderings that were exactly what we were looking for. Not just for the kitchen, but for our living room, bathroom, and stairway as well. When it came time to move beyond the design phase, we compared contractor rates of some others but ultimately stuck with Shawn since he knew what we wanted and we trusted him to bring to life the vision he had so beautifully illustrated in his renderings! I really did not want to remodel our kitchen because of contractor horror stories,ours and almost everyone we knew. However our neighbor gave us a tour of her remodeled home and spoke about Create interior design in such glowing terms, my wife and I decided to call them. Shawn arrived at our house on the dot, He was easy-going, respectful and completely professional. He listened carefully to what we wanted, made some recommendations and created a rough design on his laptop because it was hard for us to imagine his ideas, He explained this wasn't the final drawing because it will take time to complete the full drawing design for our project, When we received the final design we couldn't believe it was going to be are future kitchen, Since our kitchen had to be gutted completely, I asked him how long he thought it would take. He said maybe around six weeks. I laughed but he was serious. He explained we had to do our part appliances, must be ready and waiting. That made sense and we agreed. After we signed the contract, Shawn and the Foreman Benjamin came for the final review. They measured everything and gave us a quote. We had investigated prices and theirs was competitive. We told Shawn we didn't have unlimited funds and he gave us many excellent suggestions on how to save money with the remodel. In the meantime, Shawn created a group text for us in case we had questions and suggested, we meet with one of the cabinetmakers he recommended. Andy, the cabinet maker, wasn't only a talented, but a good listener. He never tried to force his ideas on us but patiently explained the pros and cons of the different designs. He said he liked making sure everything was in writing and we would be satisfied with the result. When construction began, the workers were on time or early and only left after a full days work. They were courteous and very skilled. More than once, we were amazed at their artistry. They obviously took great pride in their work. They never left a mess if it could be avoided. Unless they were a specialist like a carpenter or electrician, the workers always had a foreman working with them. Speaking of foreman, Benjamin was such a delight that we still miss him. Shawn also had administrative staff coming by regularly to take pictures, check on the work and ask us if everything was OK. Judging from our friends contractor horror stories, we hit the jackpot in how Create handled fees. The only time they asked for money was after the specific work was done base on the schedule payment we had. One time the work was 90% completed and we suggested adding that to our check for materials. Shawn refused to accept any money until it was 100% completed and approved. They even credited us for work they did not have to do, even if it was originally in the contract, Everything ran like clockwork with this group,smooth, efficient and on time. If we had any issues, it was resolved promptly. Shawn was the heart and soul of our project and if he couldn't answer a question immediately(happened once), he would find someone who could. Like any construction, there were a couple of unexpected situations once the walls were open. One had to do with the electrical sub panel. This added several thousand dollars to our project and extended the time maybe a week or so. We had such an amazing experience with Shawn and Create Interior Design. Shawn designed and remodeled three bathrooms in our home and we couldn't be happier. We were very impressed by Shawn's designs. He listened to what we liked - and what we didn't like - and gave us designs that reflected that. He also was able to produce designs that were very modern and beautiful, but didn't look like an AI generated instagram photo. They had a character and uniqueness that you only see when something is thoughtfully created just for you. We were also very happy with Shawn as a foreman of the project. To start, he was so flexible with us! We had three bathrooms remodeled and he was totally fine with the order we wanted to redo them. I feel like a lot of contractors would have forced the order of operations to best suit their schedule - not Shawn. He was also very diligent in ensuring the work was done just as the specs outlined; it's actually unreal how much the finished rooms look like the designs. Finally, everything was done on time and on budget (well, except for the things I added on during the project :D). I feel like that is people's number one concern with a remodel, and our experience was really, really great. We were looking for a design and build contractor and we feel very fortunate that we found Shawn and Create Interior Design. Shawn's design ideas were by far the most thoughtful of the three proposals we reviewed. And they also turned out to be the most economical! Shawn's business approach is very straight forward and transparent. Our project entailed combining two small bedrooms into a primary suite and remodeling a bathroom and laundry room into a beautiful new bathroom with a curb-less shower. The final product looks almost identical to the renderings Shawn prepared for us. Most of the work was performed by a single crew (sub-contractor) who did a fabulous job under the watchful eye of Fadil, the very amiable and capable in house construction manager. This review was very overdue. Shawn was awesome! My wife and I probably interviewed 5 interior designers and the one thing that separated Shawn was that you could instantly see his creativity as he walked around the house. We provide Shawn with a bunch of photos of designs we like and also included things we didn't like. We expected to change a few of Shawn's designs, but his initial renditions were so good and thoughtful that we didn't change a thing. He even thought of stuff we didn't. The only difficulty about our design was that we went with natural oak cabinets, which is very hard to find actually (at least in a modern slab design). So it was difficult to get the right color and design there. Outside of that Shawn provided us with everything else which was worth every penny! We highly recommend his service. I will note that we used our own contract, because my friend is a contractor. So I can't speak to Shawn's abilities as a GM, however most projects go very well when the designer is also the contractor / GM. read more

We contacted Shawn about designing and constructing a cabinet for storage to be placed along a "furnitureless" wall in our kitchen area. When he arrived to see our kitchen he told us excellent reasons why a preferred alternative would be to construct a tall pantry cabinet alongside our existing pantry. We agreed with him. I'm so glad he agreed to stop by even though our job was very small compared to most of his jobs. I've completed two projects with Shawn and will do my next project with him when the opportunity arises. I've worked with many contractors, and he is the only one who has completed projects both on time and on budget. That's a testament to his organizational skills, good communication / expectations management, and his hard-working crew. Over the two projects, I've really come to appreciate these guys as honest and striving to deliver a great service and product. In the first project, a kitchen remodel, I was looking for design help, and he is only person who I found who did design through execution. I had some particulars, including solid white oak cabinets which were not super common at the time, and lots of customization to maximize the space. The kitchen turned out beautiful, and we enjoyed it for 3 years until we sold the house, which I believe sold for top dollar thanks to the design and quality of the kitchen and new living room area. As we moved into the new house, we really wanted to complete the remodeling in 3 weeks to move in before school started. Shawn was up front that he needed 4 weeks and still finished enough of the work within the first 3 weeks for us to move in anyway, with his crew working overtime. I was very grateful for this. I didn't do design with him for this project as I knew what I wanted, but I was able to bounce off remodeling priorities with Shawn, and he was 100% correct on what would be the best bang for the buck in terms of remodeling impact. I'm not sure that he his the least expensive designer-contractor out there, but he really has a great sense of how to maximize the impact per dollar. I've worked with other contractors who I've paid similarly for, and the end product ended up looking slightly misfit or cheap, so I now understand the value of great design and smart prioritization. read more

We absolutely loved working with Shawn! We did a major kitchen remodel, including a ~150sq ft addition and redid the majority of the floors throughout house. Short version: very attentive/communicative/accountable, great eye for design and attention to detail, and EXTREMELY fast. It was estimated the project would take 4-5 months, and they finished in 3 months almost to the day (this does not include the design phase and time it took to get the permits). They started demo end of August and finished the night before Thanksgiving! Long Version: We shopped around with a few different companies but ultimately chose Shawn for a few reasons. We loved that it's a small business owned by Shawn & his wife. We knew it would be a complicated remodel, and for that reason it was important to us to be able to have a lot of upfront brainstorm conversation and understand what it would cost before we dove in. He was really willing to brainstorm with us, discuss our ideas and give us an upfront estimate without charging us. The other design/build companies wanted to charge us for those types of conversations. I loved that Shawn is the owner of the company and would be involved in the project from beginning to end. He was very attentive, has a very strong eye for design, great with communication, and you can tell really cares about making something we would love, and he could be proud of. I knew there were certain things that I wanted, but also unsure about a lot. He was a perfect match for me to work with. I dont have a great eye for design, so he put together a couple of different renderings that helped me figure out what I wanted. And he had a good balance of assertiveness and flexibility---telling me when something wouldn't work well (and why), what could work better, but also willing to accommodate things that I felt strongly about. We went back and forth on a few of the design specifications, and he was always willing to mock it up for me to see how it could actually look. I loved that I could lean on him for his expertise when I had an idea. I was so confident every step of the way that we would be well taken care of. I also loved all of the workers! The foundation crew (led by Andrias), the drywall guy, paint guys, interior team, electrician, floor guy. Everyone was so fantastic. Very kind, professional/respectful, great attention to detail, and extremely hard working. My husband works out of the house most days and I work from home, so I was always there, and they were very mindful of me and my space and time. Also, his main Project Manager, Fadil! Lovely gentleman. Really easy to get ahold of, would come to the house very often to check on things, and even had some great design ideas that we added on at the end. There were people at our house almost every day getting the work done, and while they were moving fast we could tell that they were doing things right and not skipping corners. Even though I was home, my workdays are usually very busy so I would rarely have to time to check in on things throughout the day, but I really didn't need to. Because Shawn and Fadil really took care of everything. This was our first experience doing any house upgrades, and I know we'll have many in our future that Shawn and his team will be an obvious choice for us. Could not recommend them more! read more

Shawn and his team did a nice job designing our bathroom, and ultimately, we like the bathrooms they remodeled for us. Unfortunately, the process of getting to this point was stressful and frustrating. Several project management mistakes were made including installing the wrong faucets (which meant holes were incorrectly drilled in the countertops), not ordering large enough counter-tops causing a multi-month delay, ordering the wrong door (more delays), installing a shower door that leaked water on the floor, installing a hot water heater that didn't produce hot water, miswiring the bathroom fans, etc. Of course, mistakes are made during any remodel, but the number that happened on this project meant that we had to spend a lot of time documenting the issues, sending reminders, asking for updates, and ultimately led to the project taking months longer than originally estimated. In addition, several mistakes involving money came up including being charged for materials we never received, and not getting credit for all of the payments we made. We were able to get everything settled, but again the lack of attention to detail here meant we had to spend a significant amount of time double-checking every line item to ensure we weren't getting overcharged. Overall, the bathrooms are nice, but they took 3.5x longer than expected, were 25% over budget, and involved a lot of stressful interactions. read more

I found Shawn and Create Interior Design almost by accident when I started looking through Houzz to get some ideas for my primary bath renovation. Scrolling through pictures I came upon a bathroom that captivated me and was absolutely thrilled to see it was designed and constructed in my geography. I looked at the other Create projects on Houzz and was equally impressed with each. I then turned to Yelp and was ecstatic to see all of the five star reviews written. I then reached out to Shawn and we scheduled an appointment to discuss the primary bathroom design and renovation and later met again so he could measure my space. We shared some ideas on vision, I sent over a few inspiration photos, and waited to see the first drawings to finalize layout. When I received them I was so impressed! This review is long overdue. I had the pleasure of working with Shahar & Marin for the redesign of my kitchen and bathrooms in the summer of 2022, and the experience was nothing short of spectacular. From the initial consultation to the final reveal, their expertise, creativity, and attention to detail were evident in every aspect of the project. I had my doubts when Shahar provided me with his take on placement, as I had my own ideas. Unlike other designers I've worked with before (this is my 3rd remodel in 5 years--long story for another time), he didn't hide his disagreement with my ideas, which initially turned me off a bit. However, it was also refreshing, as I made plenty of mistakes in past remodels due to some dumb ideas, and my previous designers didn't want to push back on those ideas. Shahar and Marin were spot on, as it turns out. I've been living here since August 2022, and I love every aspect of their design. The kitchen, once outdated and cramped, has been transformed into a modern, functional, and inviting space. Shahar understood my style and needs (we were aiming for a "Studio McGee" vibe), incorporating them into a design that not only looks stunning but also enhances the way I use my kitchen daily (among other things, they added a pantry without sacrificing the feel of depth in the kitchen). In the bathrooms, the choice of tiles and fixtures perfectly complements the overall aesthetic of my home. Shahar's suggestions for the tile layout were perfect from the first shot (no design tweaks needed after the initial concept) and beautifully executed, making the spaces feel luxurious and spa-like. Our tile guy bailed on us at the last minute, and Shahar performed that work with his own team. The craftsmanship and quality of work are evident, and I've received numerous compliments from friends. What impressed me most was Shahar's (and Marin's) ability to seamlessly blend functionality with style. I'm project managing my house addition with people in different trades owning a piece of the work. When it came to drawing a bathroom design, we kept going around in circles! What fixtures to get and what color-finish, tile design, tile size and pattern, lights and outlet placement, vanity design, where to buy, etc.???? Met with Shawn and he knows what he's doing for sure! He's very good at communicating and very organized. He listened to what we were looking for and made it into reality!! I what can I say? Shawn and his team hit the nail on the head! My wife and I were looking for someone to be able to take our dreams and make them a reality, and Shawn did just that. From day one, Shawn was responsive and listened to each and every one of our detailed requests and was able to give us his insight and expertise while keeping our wants in mind. We were able to dial-in most of the design with a couple meetings and my wife and I decided to continue the project using his team of installers. In the past, we have used other contractors, and no matter who it was, there was always something left to be desired in the very small details. His team of installers were meticulous, down to every fine detail. The project installation timeline was carefully thought out and was adhered to very well, with the exception of a few things that were out of our control, like waiting for the inspector to follow up and come sign off on certain phases of the job. Once the job was complete, the contractors cleaned up every area they had been, leaving no trace of their presence in our home behind. I contracted Create Interior Design to do the design work for my master bathroom remodel. I found Create Interior Design through Houzz, and the examples of their designs were aligned with my taste. Shawn was very responsive as soon as I contacted him via Houzz. He scheduled an onsite consultation and took extra time and care while at my home to understand our requirements. I have a small space and the original master bathroom has an open space to the vanity area and to the left an enclosed space for the toilet and shower. I wanted one big master bathroom that had a tub for soaking, a separate shower, double vanity, and enclosed toilet room. I know, a tall order, given the limited space and options for expansion. However, Shawn DELIVERED! Not only did he give me three layout options, but he also gave us his recommendation on the most optimal and explained why. My husband and I took a while to decide as we also had a second opinion about layout, just to ensure we were getting the most optimal layout for our space. Shawn was patient with us and never rushed or pushed us. In the end we trusted Shawn and went with the option he recommended. We then sent him examples of bathroom designs we liked and he took about 1.5 weeks to deliver the final design in 3D. When we saw the final design we were BLOWN away! My husband and I have similar taste and know what we like, but having to decide the details would take us forever. Shawn's design incorporated everything we liked and put our ideas together in a way that exceeded our expectations. We did a major bathroom design and remodel with Shawn and his crew. The design is very aesthetically pleasing and met all of our objectives. The crew was very efficient when they worked and Shawn was accommodating when our travel plans meant that we had to pause the project. We hired Shawn to design and remodel our kitchen and master bath, and were very happy with his work and the end result! We would highly recommend him and would use him again for future projects! Shawn worked closely with us to come up with a design we loved. He incorporated our input in the beginning and was also open to changes in the final design. One of the major changes to the layout was a larger hybrid island/breakfast table and while we were skeptical about how that would turn out, it's turned into one of our favorite features of the kitchen. As part of the design, Shawn produced a very detailed list of all of the materials, cost breakdowns, and where they were available. I was so lucky to have found Shawn! I really wish I met him earlier!! Shawn designed our kitchen, master bathroom, kids bathroom and guest bathroom.
