Great seafood restaurant, ever since the Joe's Crabshack closed near us we've been hungering for a seafood boil place, we found this new venue in State College. Bonus; you can BYOB, liquor and beer store is very close. Had the King Crab, shrimp and lobster tails with crazy boil mild seasoning, great flavours and nice comfortable heat. You get over a dozen shrimp, good size crab legs (sweet) and two good size lobster tails. We also spilt a bowl of Gumbo soup, was good not great. The corn cob side was a nice compliment, didn't enjoy the raw potato. Staff was not very attentive, but the food came out quick and was well cooked. My husband and I stopped in for a late lunch. The place was completely empty so that should have been an indication. The menu really didn't inspire me, as there appeared to be no lunch selections, but I rolled with it and chose the seafood pasta. It was honestly terrible. The seafood quality was awful - you could tell it was all frozen seafood and to top it off it was all over cooked so it was very tough. There was also a very small amount of it. Good atmosphere and service, but I thought the prices where a bit steep for the portions received. Didn't realize that when you create your own combo, you don't pay for a meal, but more a la carte. So, $30+ for two lobster tails and additional cost for any side. A side can amount to four pieces of broccoli. The crab legs arrive in a pool of sauce, which I thought would come on the side. Not sure why I would want sauce all over the crab legs when I am just going to have to crack the shells open. Meanwhile, I have sauce all over the place, none of which is on the actual crab meat, and it's looking more and more like a crime scene at my table...hmmm....probably will skip in the future. read more

My daughter ordered a fruit tea that she ended up not caring for and David was very kind and brought her a new beverage and an additional drink (jasmine milk tea) for us to try. The hush puppies were good, wish we had ordered extra! It would be great if there was an alternative dipping sauce to have with them (just a suggestion) and dessert at any place that caters to a southern palette is a must! My 2 cents? Ok, let's put things in context. This is State College, Pa. We're pretty land locked, so getting any kind of fresh seafood is going to take some effort. But DC and Maryland arent that far away. According to our waitress, the shrimp were coming from India and the crawfish were coming from Lousiana. The fried shrimp are purchased re-breaded and frozen even though they use "fresh" shrimp for the boil... so maybe not the best procurement and treatment of their product, but the food tastes good and the staff is amazing! They've got a few nice, added touches that make for a nice experience. Prepare to get messy and prepare to enjoy it! The mild Garlic Butter sauce was divine! I'd dip anything I could find in that sauce. I hope in the future they expand the menu a bit to add a few other combo options or a create your own combo. read more

So for my birthday I decided to get seafood boil, I traveled 45 minutes to get this food and let me tell you, I wasn't disappointed. I got the combo #2 which has bread, corn, potato's, sausage, mussels, shrimp, and crab legs with the crazy boil sauce and it was delicious!!! It was sweet and spicy, with a little bit of a tang. The portions they give you is more than enough. I got full before I was done with half of it. It was just *chefs kiss* delicious! The Cajun rice was also really good! I definitely recommend trying it. It was really flavorful and the green onion brought the dish to life! The staff there is exceptionally kind and helpful, it's also really easy to pick up they have it waiting on a table for you right as you walk in the door. I called to make changes and it wasn't an issue the staff was super kind, they even offered to make my food on a day that they were closed (but I decided I could wait until the next day) which was really nice of them. Good service, I had the oysters and the were really fresh to be located in central PA. My fiance had shrimp and they were very tasty also. I've been to a few different boil restaurants: Boiling Crab in San Diego, Boiling Crab in Dallas, Smashing Crab, and Rocking Crab. I've always liked boiling crab the most, though the service wasn't friendly in Dallas and it's kind of a dive (but delicious). Crazy Boil was clean, the staff was very friendly and attentive, they had big, nice, and clean wash sinks outside of the bathroom which was better than wet naps in my opinion, the tables were very large, and they expanded on the traditional menu with some really good family friendly dishes. We ordered 3 lbs of king crab and 2 lbs of shrimp (I prefer head-on, wife prefers no head) with Crazy Boil flavor and mild (for my wife). The food was great. Just like the other places, their process gives the shrimp such a good texture. The shrimp is my favorite, but it was a new place for us so we wanted to try the king crab too. Both were excellent. I highly recommend the crazy boil flavor. The complimentary hush puppies made me like hush puppies again... The Cajun fries were excellent too (good spice on those) I was happy to bring my own beer and glad it is an option. We had such a great time. The food is delicious, and similar to that of some very popular high-end competitors, but the staff was as good as it gets. read more

Crazy Boil is a new addition to State College, however it is great! I went to Crazy Boil for dinner with my roommates, upon arrival we were greeted by our server promptly. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and recommended the seafood boil options. My roommate and I got the crawfish boil and my other roommate got the shrimp boil head off. The food was good, full of good flavor and spices. The only thing I found lacking was the atmosphere. Overall, great service, average atmosphere, and good food. Since the new owners took over this place, everything went in a downward spiral. The seafood is horrid. It seems as if my shrimp were reused from the day prior and the grilled oysters (6 for $14.99) were comparable to the size of quarters. The whole menu price increased while the portion sizes were no doubt cut in half. While I confronted the owners, letting her know about my meal and I was a regular that did not mind paying a good price for great seafood, she was really defensive and brushed off what I had to say. The people here are very nice, but if your looking for quality seafood this is not the place to go. Crawfish are big but not so fresh kind of dry. Shrimp had a good flavor and cooked perfect. Red potatoes not cooked enough and did not have flavor. Corn was over cooked and mushy. Overall the crazy boil was a good flavor, but it is kind of misleading. They definitely do not boil everything together making a traditional crawfish taste if you are from cajun country skip it completely. read more

Well, meh. Ate here again this weekend. It started out very nice! We are seated very quickly, they brought us complementary hush puppies which were very bland but served in this cute little basket along with a very flavorful sauce. I got the crab legs with the crazy boil which is a mixture of all of their sauces. At first, the sauce flavor reminded me of Chef Boyardee canned lasagna sauce. However, it kind of grew on me as I ate it. For the price I was worried it would only be two claws and it was.... but what are you gonna do. The true downer was their garlic pasta my husband got because he's allergic to most everything else. The garlic was completely under-cooked and almost completely inedible. The pasta was also under cooked, and I don't mean al dente. Really, I love pasta and garlic, but this was totally gross!! We totally slept on this place! The best option for seafood in State College. Came here for Mothers Day, slight wait when we arrived left time for us to browse the menu and know what we wanted when it came time to order. 10 and 12 shared the snow crab bowl, I had headless shrimp, DH had crawfish. Extras (corn, potatoes, bread, rice) extra charge. Gumbo was delicious. Really, everything was. Complimentary hush puppies came out hot. The pricing is reasonable as well because of the rare fresh seafood. And I just recently noticed that they even lower the price of my fav dish, combo 2 and combo 3.
