The food was amazing. The restaurant is very cute. Our waitress was very nice, we had a reservation and were seated immediately but we did wait an hour and 20 minutes for food. They also brought our check after about an hour at which point we hadn't received any of our food yet (not even our appetizer). I would go back but only if I have a lot of time to spend there. For food we had the chicken dumpling balls as an app, very good and a good number of them. I had the pumpkin curry it was very tasty, less curry sauce and more stuff than what I'm used to but good. It's been a long time since I made it to Kamrai. It used to be one of my favorites stops for sushi and then some others opened up and it seemed to fall off my radar. Lemont is a cozy and quaint town at the base of Mount Nittany. Kamrai sits in the middle of the "business" area in Lemont. It's located in an old victorian style home with an enclosed porch. There's plenty of parking in and around town with sidewalks to access the restaurant. They offer thai & sushi as menu options. By luck we stumbled across Kamrai on this evening as we were in the area around dinner time. We got porch seating, which is great, and opted for some thai and sushi offerings. It's an old establishment but it has it's own charm. Service was good and the food came quickly. I got Spicy Udon with pork and it was delicous. I also tried their shrimp tempura. It is in a very cute building, being an old house that was remodeled to be a restaurant. We got a window seat and had the red curry. The sex on the moon sushi roll the chicken satay and they thick cut wheat noodles. All of the food was good. I've definitely had better sushi but their chicken satay was one of the best that I've had in a long time and their noodles were outstanding. The service was quick and good very kind all smiled and made us feel comfortable Our only issue was the menu was full of things that looked delicious and we didn't have enough appetite to try them all. Kamrai has gone downhill since covid. The restaurant is still takeout only. When I dined here in person before, we liked sitting in the room with all the windows, it was like a solarium. Service was hit or miss, so you're not missing out on spectacular service since you can't dine in. Food is also totally hit or miss. I've had the green curry and cashew nut stir fry here which I liked. Everything else I've tried from dining in twice and getting takeout once, was absolutely not worth it. The kani salad was watery and lacked flavor, and the majority of the dish is shredded carrots. For an $11 price tag, I was expecting a larger portion or something fantastic, but I was let down. The spider roll was $15 and tasted like deep fried crab shell- not crab meat at all, and the avocado was brown. The tofu pad thai is the worst thai food I've ever had! It was dry and oily at the same time and had a very strong sesame oil flavor. The dish was basically all noodles and there were very little veggies mixed in. I much prefer their sister restaurant Maxx ramen! I won't be back at Kamrai. read more

The food is blend: We ordered chicken satay - the chicken is unbelievably thin sliced. crispy tofu - they serve satay sauce..it's okay if you really like satay but I think it typically comes with chili sauce, so not as expected. Pineapple fried rice - The fried rice is very soggy and wet. Big no-no. The pineapples are blend, no flavor at all. It lacks any veggies / toppings apart from pineapple, protein, and rice. Green curry - the appearance and taste are okay. We have waited for half hours for the later two items. Then the server asked if our food has arrived. There must be some communication issue with the kitchen. Overall, not impressed and doesnt worth the price and the wait. read more

So we went here for sushi, because there aren't many sushi spots in town and this one seemed like a good option, plus we just HAD to have sushi that night. I realized after that they're mostly Thai food. Their sushi was good but certainly not the best I've had. I'm eager to go back for Thai food because everything I've read just raves about it. It's located in Lemont, a cute little downtown, and inside of an old house. Because of that it feels pretty cramped but it's kind of quaint and has a quieter atmosphere when we were there. It's BYOB, as many places are in PA, but they do charge a $3 opening fee so keep that in mind. Not a terrible experience overall but I think I'd recommend their Thai food over sushi for now... will update once I get to try their Thai food! read more

Really good sushi! I had the Sex on the Moon (yes, thanks, Kamrai for making me have to ask for sex on the moon in front of my parents). This was some surprisingly good sushi for the State College area. The portion size was also quite generous and I left feeling very full and satisfied. What a unique gem in the middle of this neighborhood. This place sort of looks like a bed-and-breakfast or a residential home, but don't be fooled. Inside is some excellent food. As the previous Yelp reviews can attest, this place is excellent. Service is quick, efficient & accurate. Atmosphere is very nice with a hint of romanticism. Everything I ordered he was excellent. This Thai and sushi restaurant is a hidden gem just outside of State College, PA. It is in the old Victorian Manor house in Lemont and has kept the stained glass windows and the window seating that take advantage of the lovely structure. We had fantastic service (the sun was too bright where we first sat and the servers noticed and offered us a different table without our needing to ask). We had Tom Yum soup (fantastic and medium hot was quite spicy), fresh spring rolls (very good) a Penn State roll (sushi) and Basil eggplant. Both entrees were plentiful and delicious, and the Thai dishes had Thai basil. The entrees were a bit sweet for our tastes, but were perfectly cooked, prepared and served. It is BYOB. read more

My partner and I got takeout tonight from Kamrai. We were NOT impressed. We ordered the Dragon Roll and the Spider Roll. The sushi presentation was good but both rolls tasted horrible. The spider roll left an awful after taste. The wonton soup had 1 wonton in it and the rest was entirely broth. The edamame was water logged. The chicken teriyaki barely had any sauce after requesting extra sauce and was very watery. The Pad Thai was okay but I have had better in other places in state college. Interesting spices, good moisture level. Pad Thai was a big dish of noodles with little else. Hardly any sauce. This review is more about their sushi than anything else, as that is what I have most experience with (heard their Thai food is delicious but haven't tried it). The sushi is pretty average, bordering on disappointing. When there are only two sushi choices in town though, you have to make sacrifices! Try and stick with the specialty rolls as these will be the most interesting, but, even so, don't expect much. The BYOB aspect is neat and is $3 per bottle, so you get your most bang for your buck by bringing something like wine. Sadly I feel like Kamrai isn't as good as it was. They went to takeout only at the beginning of the pandemic which is understandable but it's unfortunate that it's still the case because the seating area is so beautiful. We ordered takeout today for the first time in months and it took over an hour, understandable because of the holiday. We got home and realized they gave us the wrong order (our fault for not checking but the receipt stapled to the bag was correct). We called over 20 times but there was no answer so my husband drove back, they were very apologetic and gave us a free salad which was nice. They had the food immediately so I think it was just sitting for an hour because it was pretty cold when we got home. Unfortunately, the food was just... not good. My noodles were very greasy and pretty bland. I really wonder if they changed ownership or something because the menu is different and the food used to be incredible. So my family came to visit my wife and I for the weekend and we ended up coming her two out of the three nights they were in State College. I have eaten a lot of Thai food all around the US and in Thailand and this restaurant is near the top. The strategy is to go with a group and order a bunch of dishes to share. That way you get a variety of flavors and dishes. We particularly loved the pumpkin curry, Bangkok beef, spicy noodles, and panang curry. The duck curry was also very good. We didn't get too into the sushi as much because the Thai was too good. Note: IT IS BYOB. This is actually nice, you can bring the beer/wine you want and save money. Overall, 9/10. read more

We were easily seated out on the enclosed patio area and promptly waited on. Service was great, a little quiet but very polite and accommodating. The atmosphere here is really what makes Kamrai special - it's located inside an old Victorian house (parking is off to the side and I imagine it's hard to find a spot on weekends) and the ambience is really cozy. Definitely a good place for a date or to take your family! I had the pad Thai (good and fresh, but nothing overly special) and husband had the ginger beef (good ginger taste, but needed a tad more seasoning imo). We also started off with the crunchy salmon roll (freshly made and fried, came out super hot) and finished off with the tempura cheesecake (cheesecake was a little too cold, but understandably because it had to be deep fried). I love Kamrai. I think they have some of the best sushi in town, and their thai menu items are also really good. The spicy tuna tower appetizer is phenomenal. I love their pad thai and pad see ew and the lobster bomb roll are also some of my go too's. It can get very busy on weekends, so be prepared for a short wait if the restaurant is packed. They do always seem to keep things moving pretty well though. The waitstaff is really good for the most part, but I've had someone who was super grumpy in the past, although that didn't take away from the awesome food for me. read more

When you walk into a place where they serve Thai and Japanese food at the same time. Watch out. They aren't good at either one. Mediocre food at high prices. This is how I would describe this place. I'm from New York City so anyone who grew up in a big city would feel the same way about this place. Since they are located in State College, I guess the people living in the area had no choice but deal with this overpriced low-quality food. I would suggest do not order any appetizers unless you had money to burn. They charged $8 for 4 lousy pieces of small thin sliced chicken breast with some satey sauce that tasted like it came out of a jar. And don't expect any great services here. The waitress just brought us the food. That's it. She never asked how everything was. Let me first say...I don't like restaurants with lots of rules. OK...I've said it. Kamrai has a policy that they will not seat your party until everyone is there. We were all there except our driver. He was parking. Once he finally found a parking space, there was a wait. ARGH... OK...with that out of the way...I've been there twice within the last two months. It came highly recommended. The space is very unique for an Asian restaurant as it is an old American house. I really liked it. Only downside-it was freezing-both times!! The menu is vast with foods from Thailand and Japan. Everything looked great. Combining our two dining evenings, we've tried many of the sushi dishes and a few of the Thai. I must say, over-all, the sushi is fantastic!! A little pricey, but the portions are larger than usual; so it evens out. That said, be careful how much you order; you might be wasting or taking home a lot. The Thai dishes are OK. We've had mostly tofu and veggie dishes, but we also had chicken with green curry and a beef dish. The beef dish (sorry, can't recall the name) was really flavorful. Not a lot of meat, but lots of spice. Good-but, not a great portion. The Green curry chicken was not good. I thought the chicken was tough and the sauce had no other flavor but hot. As opposed to the red curry which was terrific. We've never had room for dessert, so I can't talk about that. So when I found out we had ANOTHER Thai/sushi place opening I was just ok with the idea. We have a few in town and the three of them do an ok job. Now, I live in Lemont, so the convenience factor was nice but still wasn't super excited. Wow....I should have been. Usually on a review I start talking about the food. Not this time. My wife and I were greeted by the nicest, warmest Host I have ever met. The ambiance is great and very nicely decorated with seating in their enclosed porch. The owner came to every table to say hello. She was extremely sweet and so appreciative of us coming in. Now the food. I love sushi. I REALLY love sushi. If I ever have to select my last meal...sushi. So I am very hard to please. Boy did they not let me down. All of the rolls were presented artistically. Most sushi places phone in the look at the cost of speed. Not here. Every roll was cooler looking than the last. We had the Pike street roll, spicy tuna, sex on the moon (it was out of this world....eck...I can't believe I said that) and this really cool one called the spicy tuna sandwich. It was awesome. They used the rice to make "bread" and then used the seaweed as "lettuce" and nicely spiced tuna as the filling. It was great. This place was so good I went back the next day for take out and became the first Duke here. The EXTREMELY generous portion of Pad See Ew was the best I have ever had. Going on the recommendation of a friend, I took my girlfriend here for dinner last Friday. The street parking in Lemont was pretty easy to deal with since we went at an early time. We were seated quickly, but, as other Yelpers have noted, it took FOREVER for a waitress to even come over and take drink orders. Our waitress basically disappeared for the majority of our meal, and we were almost late for our movie because we had to flag someone down to get the check. This is a newer restaurant, so I'm going to try again in a few months. The sushi we good. Our appetizer was a squid dish that was a little over-plated, but still pretty tasty. The texture and flavor was good, but it was a little too much style, and not quite enough substance. I ordered the Adventure Roll for my main course. The roll was a combination of tuna, avocado, sour cream, salmon, etc., all tempura fried. It was pretty fresh, and hit my pallet in all of the right spots. If Kamrai can get us in and out quicker next time, I think it could be a real 4-star contender, but until then I'm sticking with Sakura. read more

It's a little pricey, but definitely reasonable. The food was worth the money. And the whole restaurant is very clean and homey. It took a little bit for them to serve the food, but it wasn't anything unreasonable considering how long it should take to make the food we ordered.
