Small place and if you aren't looking, you'll walk right by! When you walk in, there are a few tables and the menu is on the wall. Order at the counter that is wrapped in plastic -- they are very COVID aware here. I ordered chicken teppanyaki and blueberry bubble tea. Everything is freshly made and my food was really good. The fried rice could've used a bit more seasoning/flavor, but soy sauce packets can help you out. I actually prefer sesame oil in my fried rice and they didn't use that here. Menu isn't really big offering Poke bowls, sushi, sushi burritos, teppanyaki and a few side items. read more

Ok, so this is a confusing review because the service was horrible but the food was good. When my friend ordered there was a miscommunication and she ended up with a burrito rather than a bowl. The lady at the counter was horribly rude and basically yelled at her. The lady also kept telling my friend that it was her fault over and over again- THE worst service! Other than that, we all enjoyed our food. It tasted fresh and gave good portions. Probably would come back but I'm not sure after the service. read more

Kondu is one of those places where I really want to love it, but I don't. I have now been here at least three times and have tried their take on the sushi burritos and poké bowls. On my last visit, I saw that they've added a hibachi-like option on their menu as well. The place itself is a small, casual cafeteria-style location. You order, wait for your food and number to be called, and place your tray away yourself when you're done. It can feel pretty crowded at times and the walkways are a little narrow. The food is pretty plain and portions are much smaller than their competitors, but at higher prices. I do not recommend ordering any of the preset burrito options. They all include iceberg lettuce, which they will fill more than half of your burrito with. It just seems like such a low way for them to maximize profits, while also risking the quality of their product. Besides that, I find that the fish and other add-ins lack any real flavor and I'm typically still hungry afterwards. However, I find the poké bowl to be pretty good. There was a good rice to topping ratio, but I wish there was more fish and a larger overall portion for that price of $10+. All in all, there are definitely WAY better places to eat in the neighborhood, but if you're craving any of their items, it is your only real option in downtown State College. So, I guess it will do for now. read more

There's not a ton of options for sushi in Happy Valley, let alone sushirittos or poke bowls. Not a huge fan of the former, so I ordered the latter for lunch today when I forgot to pack myself lunch. The pros are there's good options on their menu - you can order one of their speciality bowls, or you can make your own. Appetizers are also fairly cheap, and there's options for adding on sushi rolls or teppanyaki. ~$9 for a custom bowl isn't bad, and I threw on some gyoza to meet the delivery min. I was hungry and ordered around 10am for delivery by 12pm - prep and delivery were actually super fast, with an email coming for prep around 11:20am and delivering a little before 12pm. Huge plus in my book. Gyoza was basic, but nice touch with the flavored gyoza sauce (there was fresh minced ginger in there). Bowl was a good size, but seriously unbalanced... small portions of the meat (I got salmon and shrimp tempura, the latter of which I know is an unusual option, but it was literally one piece of tempura cut into pieces lol), way too much edamame (think there was more than anything else), and little to none masago (which is one of my favorite parts to eat with the rice... so was very disappointed). But! It was filling and I'm definitely pretty full, just not satisfied taste-wise. Something simple to fix would also be adding some sort of description to the sauces? It wasn't on the grubhub menu and it's also not on their website... it would help a lot when trying to figure out which sauces paid well with what, because the yum yum sauce was decidedly not yummy... read more

Kondu is never consistent. You will always get a combination of different vegetables in your fried rice. I personally did not like how there was random romaine lettuce in the fried rice. The portion is ginormous. This is definitely not the best fried rice I've ever had, it lacks flavor and tastes pretty bland but I like how it comes with yum yum sauce which I think is really tasty. read more

I ordered a bowl to go and when I got home and opened it, my damn eyes almost fell out. 4 pieces of tiny thinly sliced beef, one tiny scoop of "spicy tuna" that was greyish yellow in color and tasted as good as it looked, and avocados that were greyish black on the edges and smelled bad. In short, tiny portion of not fresh/ slightly decomposing food, but hey, the rice was plenty so just eat the damn rice. The one and only sushi burrito in town - for this concept, food quality cannot be subpar especially with raw fish involved. Raw fish, greens and fruits wrapped in the burrito, fresh ingredients naturally bring out the best of food~! A little disappointing that the burrito/poke dont come with additional toppings or crunches like garlic/onion crisps, shredded nori, sesame seeds, spicy furikake - the kind of toppings you'd expect to see at your regular sushi-burrito joints. Many selections on the menu offer surimi crab, something I try to stay out of because it just means artificial fish paste! $10 is decent pricing for sushi burrito/poke bowl. However, portion is a little too small. Other sushi burrito places have ingredients overflowing while you bite and you could eat half and save half for the next meal! I paid $10 for a sushi burrito that was 90% lettuce and I'm not sure that there was any meat in it except imitation crab. The gyoza was frozen from the bag and cooked in a grill straight from frozen to cooking. It wasn't bad by any stretch of the imagination, and this is one of the few places around that sells boba. This placed opened up a few months ago and I stopped in to grab some lunch. The restaurant looks clean and the food was really good. I went with the Rock N' Roll sushi burrito. They are somewhat smaller than a Chipotle burrito (if you get all the toppings), but it fills you up without feeling like you overate. We had an instant connection due to the similarity of our names, and when he threw my sushi burrito at me from across the restaurant I knew this was the place for me.
