I made reservations here for my boyfriend and I because it seemed different with lots of positive reviews. The gnocchi we ordered was incredible and would order 5 more of those. The steak dish with the parmesan truffle fries were also a favorite from that night. The meat was tender, well seasoned, and perfectly cooked. The chicken dish we ordered, as well as the empanadas were subpar compared to the others, and would not order again. We finished off with the chocolate lava cake and ice cream which you can never go wrong with. The service was slightly slow even though it was a small place, and it was hard for us to get a server to come by and assist us. SO I just got back to NJ after spending 3 months in Spain, and Cravings in Ridgewood absolutely OUTDID every Spanish restaurant I had gone to! I had lost all hope that I could ever like Spanish food - but my oh my I guess small miracles really do happen. I ordered the arepa with BBQ pulled pork & guac, and the gorgonzola, honey, ricotta spread. The arepa was so delicious, the pork was sweet and done just right over a nice dough base. The spread was creamy and robust, like a good ricotta mama should be. So flavorful - and cheap for what they give you. Just these two tapas together very filling and satisfying, which is huge because normally with tapas I'm never full when I leave. Came with friends and we brought our own bottle of wine that the waiters made sangria with! A pitcher, for only about $7! We were able to split it 4 ways so it was a pretty good deal. Be sure to make a reservation because the place is kinda tiny and gets really packed. Plus it's super loud so come with a group/friends, people you'll laugh with. Ok. So I'm going to try to find the words to give this place the 110% "woohoo! as good as it gets!" rating it completely deserves. We were a party of 3 on a Saturday night and made reservations. Good thing we did because the place was toooootally packed. Had to even wait an extra 10 minutes, but it was well worth it and I would have waited even longer if I had to. The hostess kindly took our BYO bottle of wine. Classy, cozy, lively atmosphere, we were seated in the table all the way in the back. Our wine was waiting for us in 3 glasses and our server approached us right away to welcome us. Took us a little while to decide what to order for our first round, but we agreed on the stuffed avocado special, philly cheesesteak empanadas, croquettas, charred octopus, and lobster bisque. Everything was shared, everything was tasty, and everything was plated beautifully. Croquettas were crisped to perfection. All sauces were great accompaniments to each dish. Wanted to make sure we were doing it right, so we took a decent amount of time in-between ordering, and our server didn't rush us at all. Good thing we brought 2 bottles of wine even though I swear I could have gotten drunk off of that incredible lobster bisque. We ordered the short rib quesadilla, which was awesome. The waiter even mentioned that he recommends each person in my party get three dishes each! The price is a little high for the value. Came here on a Wednesday night during restaurant week with a couple of girlfriends. I walked in first and there were only 2 people dining in the entire place. The host asked if we had reservations but we did not. He gave me a sigh and said ok I can find something for you. I'm only mentioning this because it was almost comical. There were 2 people taking up one of the tables. We got a good deal on our tapas because of the restaurant week deal otherwise I think it's pretty pricey and I'm not sure it's worth it. Let me first start off with the fact that I don't even know how this place is still open. I'm guessing whomever goes here has no idea what Spanish tapas are or how they taste or how they should be made. But it goes further then that. My date ordered a tabla that was supposed to come with Jamon Serrano , soppressata, chorizo, and Manchego cheese . What we got was old salami, provolone cheese, prosciutto and supermarket quality cold cut chorizo. As a foodie and a Spaniard it was very insulting that they where trying to pass off cheep cold cuts for quality cuts of Spanish and ?? Italian cuts , I thought this was a Spanish tapas place? Along with that , the shrimp tapa tasted more Mexican than Spanish, spicy, but with no real flavor. The paella had nothing Spanish about it and again had all the wrong spices in it. Worst paella I ever had. The atmosphere is confusing because they have Italian, Mexican and Spanish decor , it looked cheap and uninviting. The waiter that served us..I do have to say was nice but doesn't make up up for all the fails. The menu was not Spanish , it was Mexican, Italian, and had a few Spanish tapas . It was free! but their price is pretty steep for the amount of food you get. Decor: Very trendy place in downtown Ridgewood. Fits about... 50 people max. Service: I'm a little confused about the service. I'll ask for something and the person would have to get the head waitress and i'll have to repeat myself again. She went above and beyond to accommodate my needs but having to repeat myself twice is not ideal. Parking & Finding the Place: Located across the Ridgewood Train Station - plenty of metered parking. 5 star food... 3 star service. My family decided to dine here after reading a review in the paper. The promising review gave me pretty high expectations on the food, and the chef did not disappoint. Came in her on a Saturday night after making reservations the day before. The owner was quite accommodating over the phone and made space for us at 5pm, when he told us that they were fully booked for the night (Definitely make a reservation here ahead of time if you plan on dining here. I saw the owner turn away a few groups of people who walked in). In general, the servers are very friendly the moment you walk in. It's blatantly obvious the owner wants to maximize profits here, and is pushing the fire code limits by placing a table to cover any square footage he has. The tables are very cramped. You feel as if you're dining with the people behind you, on your left and right, and even two tables down. You are THAT close to them. Our waitress came over to our table and explained the menu and told us what she recommends. I had asked her if it would be better to order everything at once, or if we can order as we go. She told us it was fine if we ordered throughout our seating. We were given a very small table for three, so we didn't want all our orders to be served very close to one another and having to play Tetris on our table in order to fit all the plates. Fast forward an hour or so, and we had placed an order three different times during our seating. Our waitress was a bit annoyed and asked in a rude tone if that would be our final order because there were people waiting for our table. To be honest, it was our final order, but I find that inexcusable for a waitress to come off that way, especially for the premium that they charge on these tapas. She walked a few feet over to the owner and clearly said to him that our table was driving her crazy because we kept ordering food instead of ordering it all at the beginning. As a paying customer, who needs to overhear a waitress bad mouthing you a few feet away. Since they serve tapas here, the portion sizes are small and are meant to be shared. I would suggest ordering 3 plates per person as a good rule of thumb. You won't leave here overly stuffed, but just enough to fill your stomach. Here's a list of what we ordered: -Ricotta gnocchi served with lamb - I really liked the dish, and the lamb complemented the gnocchi surprisingly well. -Veal meatballs - I would recommend this. The tenderness and sauce were wonderful -Octopus - The green sauce was the hit on this dish. A great dish. -Crabcakes - If you get the small portion, it comes with 2 small crab cakes. I actually like the coleslaw it was accompanied with more. -Beef Empanadas - Nothing really special here -Lobster slider - The fried egg on top of the sandwich is brilliant! -Shrimp (gambas con ajo) - for $10, I was shocked to see how big the shrimp were -Flat bread pizza - Skip this, it's naan served with hummus and some toppings I would come back here simply for the food if were some friends/family were in town, but for tapas the price is a few dollars excessive. I guess being situated in Ridgewood, you can get away with that. It's great that it's BYO, so definitely bring some wine with you. I recommend the pulled pork arepas, Gambas al ajillo, skirt steak with truffle fries and the chocolate lava cake for dessert. Great little restaurant across from the Ridgewood train station. Had the perfect weather to dine outside post pandemic. Greatly appreciate all of the safety measures in place and the food did not disappoint!! I'll start by saying I really like this place. The variety of dishes offered is very nice and the staff - and I mean EVERYONE - is hip and friendly, chatty and professional. One of the best wait staffs Ive seen anywhere. The chef isn't afraid to experiment with interesting combinations - not all successful - but nothing odd and the results somewhat good, but sometimes very good. On top of all this, prices are very reasonable, place is very nicely done and modern, and I left there after the first (low expectation) dinner being happy. The things I don't like here are 1) blaring music, 2) TV at the bar like station where singles can dine, and the overall coolness of the atmosphere. This is place I would come back to and dine alone, but I wouldn't bring a date here. Specific to my first dinner, the octopus was excellent except the "roasted cauliflower" accompaniment was really a bland purée which didn't go well with the plate. (hummus would have far better). The plate was artfully done (as most things are here) , quality of octopus superb, BUT it was served cold! The raisins with it were nice tho. As were the micro green garnishes. Same with the mediocre focaccia served. It wasn't bad, but could have been redeemed if it was warm, or least not cold. Home made hummus at $4.00 a real bargain and came with EVOO and dried herbs but a bit too salty or too much lemon juice. A comment about the food is that it's essentially Mediterranean but with lots of twists. All interesting, honest and competently done. But again, not all fabulous. That said the ricotta gnocchi special with long cooked lamb ragout and peas was over the top good. Light, fluffy pillows, tasty and beautiful. Impressive that a place this small has a nice dessert list. But mostly gooey stuff but they seem creative. I had the least sloppy one there - lemon tart. First let me say I'm a professionally trained pastry chef so have high standards. This one was good, but not really a lemon tart. It was more of a lemon cheesecake on graham cracker crust. Had they described it that way in menu I would have passéd it over but it wasnt bad. Kind of like the first place item at the PTO baking contest. Professionally plated and presented tho. A sharper eye to more adult and polished desserts here would be a plus at some point. I'll likely ignore them in future and head over the superb Sooks Pastry across the tracks. So, I'll be back to wade in (eagerly) to the rest of the menu. I like this place and the staff. I don't think it's very comfie tho and will likely be a place I go to instead of the Whole Foods prepared food area. It's a little outside of the main section of Ridgewood (conveniently right across from the train station, and down the block from Whole Foods), which is a plus, because you can actually find parking on the street/nearby. They offer local wine and sangria, but it is also a BYO, which is my usual go-to. I hear the sangria is pretty fantastic, but can't personally attest to it. The fun of tapas is ordering a ton of different options and sharing everything with whoever you're with (though I'm a pain in the ass to go for tapas with, because I don't eat meat, which means if someone wants the veal meatballs, they're on their own.. First world problems, I know). I LOVE the garden empanadas - they're delicious, unique, and have a little bit of spice (even non-veggie friends LOVE these). At my most recent visit, I ordered the tempura onion rings, that come with this phenomenal sauce on the bottom (that made me want to lick the plate... but I resisted). The dessert empanadas are also adorable, unique, and really delicious. The caramel sauce that comes with the apple pie empanadas is UNREAL. Like, jar it and sell it, because I could completely justify eating it with a spoon after a bad day at work. The service has always been fantastic - not only are the quick to explain and take orders as well as bring out food, but they are constantly circulating to make sure that your wine/water glasses aren't empty. I have a permanent craving for Cravings. Tasty food, great service and classy atmosphere make this my new favorite spot in my beautiful hometown of Ridgewood. Before Cravings, I had never actually been to a tapas restaurant. Considering my usual M.O. when I go out to eat is to get 2 or 3 small plates, I already loved the concept. The menu is so eclectic and innovative, you'll want to try a variety of things anyway. I've only been here twice and I've tried most of their vegetarian options already. The food is unique, fresh, and always beautifully presented. My favorite is the warm brussel sprout salad. Grilled brussel sprouts over arugula, toasted almonds, caramelized onions and sharp blue cheese tossed in a tangy dressing. To die for! Another one of my favs is their onion rings. Freshly battered and fried onions are stacked high with a crisp radish coleslaw in the middle, then sprinkled with a tart mustard seed sauce. Definitely a far cry from the boring onion rings you're used to. A tip: make sure you save room for dessert. If you know me, you know I'm not a big fan of sweets, but I can say without a doubt that their dessert is out of this world! My favorite: the churros. They're crispy and cinnamony with the perfect amount of sweetness. On the side comes a petite scoop of vanilla ice cream and a delectable homemade chocolate dipping sauce. The chocolate sauce is superb, you can really taste the cocoa and it's just the right consistency. The fact that I would come back just for that sauce alone should tell you something. Sure, its a little on the pricy side. But this is Ridgewood we're talking about. Luckily, the last couple times I came here it was on my parents. (Thanks Mom and Dad!) Simply amazing food and I will definitely be back. The interior was small and quaint, with a tiny bar to sit at as well. Came here to celebrate my friend's belated birthday, and we happened to come during Ridgewood's restaurant week! For the price of $25.17 per person, you could each get 3 tapas and 1 dessert. So between the two of us, 6 tapas and 2 desserts! Either I don't eat a lot of food (hah!) or these tapas are slightly larger than other restaurants. We had to take several breaks during our meal to breath a little before we dug in again. We ordered: 1. Ricotta Gnocchi (lamb ragout, cauliflower cream, peas, parmesan) 2. The 5 stars is for the service and the food. I would ding it only for the small portions, even for tapas standards. We got here for an early dinner, and it was pretty empty, but I have no doubt that it fills up especially on Friday and Saturday nights. So again, the food was delicious. We got the five meatballs ($11), which had great texture, sauce, and a little bit of cheese on top. For two people, the portion didn't leave a whole lot to be desired. The special was the lobster tacos, which came in a pair and had large pieces of lobster ($18) in it, which was a nice surprise. It was fresh and one more taco would have done the trick! The gnocchi was also creamy, rich and delicious; I usually don't like lamb but this was great. Because of the intensity of flavors, the portion was enough for two people. The portion of the beet salad was pretty small; it was light and fresh but was the least unique dish that we ordered. They didn't have the lobster mac and cheese today but several other offerings caught the eye. I remember not liking the croquettes all that much last time so we stayed away from it this time. Went here a couple of weeks ago with a girlfriend for drinks and dinner. Food was excellent. Dessert was delicious. Service was mediocre.

We celebrated my birthday here today and we had a wonderful afternoon. Stanka was our hostess and waitress and she was lovely and accommodating. She made sure that we had everything we needed and that the babies were comfortable too. We ordered so many tapas and the seafood dishes were the highlights, especially the charred octopus and seared scallops special. The paella Valencia was flavorful and balanced, the empanadas were delicious and savory, the ricotta gnocchi was fluffy and rich. Even the fries were good lol. The best part is that the portions were generous and 3-4 dishes per person were just right. We ended the night with a tart from Sook and it was. A great first course. 2. Green olive tapenade. Ample spread served with warm pita. Not overly salty and delicious! 3. Asparagus with shredded pear and pecorino and a basil vinaigrette. Light, balanced, refreshing. Small portion size so between us both you just get a taste, but was a nice course to break up the first two tapas. 4. Sopresata, jamon and Manchego platter. Served with bread, a mustard/Mango spread. Great portions, though I wish the Manchego was whole and not sliced and a bit more salty. 5. Mussels. PEI, these were served in a white broth w spicy chorizo. Sounds great but a bit lacking in flavor. This one I would leave to the side next time. 6. Branzino. Crispy, perfectly tasty. Not large enough to be overwhelming. 7. Croquettes. Buttery cheesy potato balls. A bit heavy for a later course, but we took the leftover 2 (it comes w 4) home. 8. Short rib quesadilla - amaze balls. Crispy but topped with a bit of greens to balance the meatiness. 9. crab cakes. Though touted as their signature dish, the sauce was a spicy Thai taste which did not blend well with the preceding courses. Nicely full of crab and not fillers, but the entree sized 4 pcs were burned and over salted. I could not finish the entree. We will be back again, to try the much acclaimed empanadas! read more

Best new restaurant I've been to in a while. Cravings gets it right, right away. It's intimate, dimly lit, kind of romantic, but with the right amount of noise in the background. Tapas places are always fun! You get to try a nice range of dishes, without breaking the bank and really getting a sense for who the chef is. This chef is brilliant! Dish One: I started with the skirt steak sliders (and a big glass of red wine). Perfect medium on on the temperature, and a mushroom and onion topping....wow! There was just a hint of feta cheese, gave the sliders some tang. Dish 2: basic cheese and meat plate. Tapas restaurants specialize in charcuterie, so naturally wanted to see how well they would do. Ordered the chorizo, chèvre, and manchego (Spanish specialty). All three....perfect. The menu for this place was adventurous, with lots of stuff out of the reach of a traditional tapas place, so my wife and I tested one of the reach items.... Dish 3: the tuna ahi. This was not bad at all, the flavors were extremely good (garlic,sesame oil and crusted sesame seeds) but in my opinion, slightly over cooked (I love sushi, so I could have eaten it raw), but my wife thought it was perfect. Finally, we had the braised short rib quesadilla (with Apple bacon and and queso fresco). This dish was probably the highlight of the night, but I was pretty stuffed at this point. I wanted to love it based on all that I heard about the chef but it disappointed. While the food was overall solid, there were several dishes that were a bit salty, the gnocchi special (which in spite of the salt, pretty tasty) and the hongos. We loved the rest of the dishes we had, I especially loved the tuna tartare and the polenta fries! Our dining was outside and I know the weather can beat the tables and chairs up but for a place that has a world-class chef, we expected better. We were there on a Sunday and perhaps the 2nd string was there but we had a rough time getting what we ordered. First off, my wife and daughter ordered the chopped salad that came without the candied pecans. When we pointed that out we did get an apology from the waitress but when the pecans came, they were plain and not candied. Then rather than getting the gnocchi special, we received the gnocchi from the menu which has lamb which my wife refuses to eat. So we had to send that back. Fortunately that was the last of the ordering chaos but it had cast its pall on the experience. Would we go back? I think at some point. The menu still has things we would like to try but next time (in at least a few months from now) we'll sit inside and go on a Friday or Saturday when there should be the "A team" on staff. read more

The most unauthentic and inedible food I have tasted. Don't bother wasting your time and money for over priced low quality food items. The menu has random items that are not only average at best but don't go with Spanish theme so confused. Cherry on top the vents drip on tables contaminating everything.
